Do any of your characters have strong opinions of modes of transportation?

Rodaine: fuck horses. They are scary as fuck he'd rather walk. The only way he will accept getting on a horse is if his boyfriend is in charge of it. Modern au is the opposite for them, Rodaine is the one who knows how to drive and enjoys doing it and is the designated chauffeur for his boy 🥰 (his boy being @nightwardenminthara 's Gideon)

Tierce: fuck boats (they make him seasick :c)

Arc: my only guy who has no strong negative opinions on any particular mode of transportation (at least not that I've come with yet lmao) but he enjoys the cozy comfort of a small carriage/caravan since he grew up in them his whole life. I think in modern au this would lend itself to him liking long car trips and long train rides, especially the kind with sleeper cars. In either his pathfinder canon or modern au I think he likes driving be it car or carriage, but he especially enjoys being a passenger (i might also project my own car-related quirk onto him where whenever I am in a car that I am not driving I almost always fall asleep. It is his now)

3. Ask them to describe their love interest.

"Gideon is sweet, handsome, intensely caring, extremely adorable, my first and last love. He's smarter than he thinks he is, his laughter is so cute, he is incredibly sexy... I could wax poetic about him for hours not run out of compliments. We don't always see eye-to-eye on a lot of our beliefs, but... despite all the pain and hardship it's caused us, the love is more than enough. He is one of the few people I would die for without a second of hesitation."

6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is?

I don't think there's anyone that he would take advice from without really thinking about said advice. He's a very logical person and he doesn't mind hearing advice and he will take it if it is good advice, but if the advice is shit, he isn't going to follow it if he knows that. Even people whose opinions he trusts on certain things don't get their advice followed blindly on everything. He generally trusts Wynne's opinions on spellcasting, but he doesn't care to hear her thoughts on his love life. He's more likely to trust Leliana or Zevran on matters of the heart but there are pieces of advice he's sure they'd both lend him on other subjects that he wouldn't agree with. He thinks Sten's point of view is fascinating and very logical sometimes but he definitely is not sold on a lot of the Qun stuff.

The reverse isn't actually true though lol because he can hold a grudge like Crazy. He has a List of people whose opinions he will almost always throw into the trash pile immediately without even mulling them over. Irving is definitely in this category, he's got a semi-irrational hatred for him. Gideon's parents and also Hector. His own father (another semi-irrational one.) Oghren. Cullen. There are probably more but those are who come to mind

22: What does sex mean for them? Socially, religiously, what attitudes are they bringing with them? Is “virginity” something they care about? Do they want sexual experiences to occur within a certain “level” of relationship, or does that not really matter so much to them?

Ooh, that's a fun one. Alding is kinda shy, and it did take him a little bit to come to terms with the fact that he is gay, but otherwise, I don't think he really has any hangups about sex? Once he sorts through his feelings re: the gay thing he's more confident in flirting and doesn't really see sex as a super big deal? Neither he nor Zevran are virgins by the time they meet, so I very much doubt that matters to either of them :P it was more of a concern for Alding when he was younger but mostly just out of anxiety about not being a good partner due to lack of experience. By the time he meets Zevran he feels like he's got a decent level of experience, though he's pretty sure Zevran still has More Experience. Alding I think cares a tiny bit more what "level" of relationship they're at pre-sleeping with someone, but I think the bar is still pretty low lmao he just wants to be certain people are Interested before he really makes a move whereas Zevran will often flirt first and backs off once rejected.

5. How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

Lmao it takes Rodaine and Gideon a Long Time to realize that they like each other yes. They've known each other since they were like 11 but they barely interacted beyond the approximately 2 baby fights they got into when they were kids. And then they didn't really speak until age 18 when Rodaine became his magic tutor. Gideon realizes he's attracted to Rodaine first but he's heavily in denial about it lmao (though I couldn't pinpoint for certain what the exact moment for Gideon would be, perhaps @gvnseylike could shed some light upon this) This does not stop him from using smooching Rodaine as a distraction so he doesn't actually have to learn magic. Rodaine doesn't really realize he's into Gideon until this kiss and then he's like 'wait, he's kissing me?? He's interested? Oh. Uh. He sure is. Blond 😳 and has an awfully square jaw... when did he stop being an annoying 11 year old???' And then they couldn't keep their hands off each other until Rodaine got conscripted. They're complete disasters ❤️

Lmao yes they both do this. Morrigan is definitely better at picking up on grouchiness than Rodaine is. He's a little oblivious sometimes but also I think Morrigan is Worse at hiding her emotions so it becomes noticeable eventually

13. Who’s the bigger tease?

I wanna say it's Gideon. Rodaine can tease but he tends towards spoiling. He wants to give Gideon everything he wants 🥰 @gvnseylike just to check if you agree 😂

17. Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?

Zevran. Alding might do it if they've been separated for a while, but he's shy. Zevran loves big sweeping gestures like that so 8 times out of 10 it's Zev and the other two times is Alding getting swept up in the excitement of seeing his Zev 🥰

Gideon (of @gvnseylike fame) has a whole regiment of hair stuff to take care of Rodaine's curls during their time together at Amaranthine (in the world where Rodaine doesn't do witch hunt and remains Warden-Commander and takes Gideon from Ostwick to be Amaranthine's "Court enchanter" bc he loves him) so his curls look extra nice when he is in close proximity to Gideon and the large amount of hair product he has purchased to make sure his husband looks extra handsome

Tierce has a complex relationship with romance lmao. I think a lot of it is a fear of vulnerability and I've also been microwaving the idea of him being somewhere on the aromatic spectrum in my brain. He doesn't really care for a precise label for that part of him bc he does experience *some* romantic attraction (lookin at you Sarian) but it's definitely slow and difficult for him to grasp.

I'm trying to come up with something for Rodaine that you don't know because of how often we talk about him and his romantic relationships sjdjdk. Let's see... I think he's so used to keeping people at a distance that when he lets them close enough to be romantic, he falls *hard*. With Gideon, it took him a while to actually realize those feelings were love because it was a new experience for him, but he was definitely in deep by the time he realized it. With Morrigan, it was pretty alarming to him how fast it developed, but he was also so happy and then so devastated when she left. He's a lot more protective of his heart after that, but he also can't help but go back to one of them depending on which path we're going for because he can't let go of love easily, even on occasions where he wants to.

Tierce finished off Quentin with his fists. The fucker's face was unrecognizable by the time someone finally pulled him off of him. Technically he's not a force mage but I like to imagine he managed a bit of it anyways in that moment to add to the damage he did.

Rodaine is often less angry than he looks, but when he's genuinely mad, it's a cold kind of fury. It's pretty rare for him to get into that mode, and honestly, it usually doesn't result in violence because he gets most angry when he doesn't have control which usually means he doesn't have the option to kill the person he's pissed at. He was like this with Irving post-victory. He knew he didn't really have justification to kill him or even deck him in the face, so he did his best to punch with words.

Rodaine tries to keep his stuff relatively neat but he's definitely not the best housekeeper. He's also got the interior design sensibilities of one of those priests who give up all earthly possessions. Any decorations in Amaranthine are not ones he purchased himself. They were either already there or were purchased (technically with his money lmao) by Gideon (<3) whose interior design sensibilities you certainly know given that he is yours lmao. Ultimately his bedroom ends up relatively cluttered with both random things he's collected and extravagant things Gideon wanted and it is very cozy <3

Hopefully not breaching some sort of tumblr etiquette asking but I'm so curious about Rodaine and Gideon, what's happening there? Last I saw they kissed for an oc meme and now I keep seeing you both tagging stuff about their dynamic, feels like I'm overhearing Circle gossip about them lmao

I'm answering this one first because I am still mulling over my Hawke thoughts and Gideon x Rodaine has taken over my whole ass brain for the past few days ajdkdk. Some of this is paraphrased from @gvnseylike bc I also showed her this ask

So it did start out with that meme where it was established that Gideon would kiss Rodaine after asking for his assistance with magic stuff. And then we moved into Tumblr dms, still mulling over the idea of Them and realizing they had some really interesting backstory parallels but like completely opposite beliefs and then it spiraled into discord bc Tumblr dms suck and now our main au of them is:

They were both in Kinloch where Gideon initiated their relationship by demanding that Rodaine tutor him and then proceeding to distract Rodaine from tutoring him by kissing him. -> they are both touch-starved sadboys who quickly fell hard for each other despite their bickering and differences (a little bit rivals to lovers >:3c) -> the events of mage origin occurred except that Gideon was privy to the plan and betrayed them to Greagoir and Irving because he was afraid of Rodaine getting hurt/killed in this escape attempt. -> Rodaine is recruited, they part on bad terms and all of origins happens pretty much as it did in my base playthrough (Including being woth Morrigan and having Kieran). Meanwhile Gideon is transferred to Ostwick where he's mostly thriving but also slightly haunted by losing Rodaine. (Extra haunted by the news of Ostagar and then following his journey closely through news and later A History of the Fifth Blight once he finds out he survived.) -> Awakening also happens as played and including my headspace canon of Rodaine hooking up with Anders on a strictly fwb basis but this time it's more embarrassing because Anders looks an awful lot like Gideon (Rodaine has Type when it comes to men and that type is blond) Anders leaves, but crucially Rodaine *doesn't* go after Morrigan and remains Warden-commander -> Gideon begins writing him letters from Ostwick, and against Rodaine’s better judgment, he replies and they strike up a rapport and remembering when they were in love. And then Rodaine makes a trip to Ostwick (usually on a whim bc Gideon reveals to him that Rodaine’s sister is also there) and ends up bringing Gideon back to Amaranthine with him as court mage bc he still has Feelings and they end up rekindling -> Gideon is invited to the Conclave to speak for the Loyalists and then DAI occurs with him as Inquisitor. Often Rodaine is hanging around Skyhold bc it is fun but also he is sometimes off looking for the cure to the calling and long-distance refereeing arguments between Gideon and Tierce. There Are awkward encounters with Morrigan when Rodaine Is around.

Overall, they're both complete messes and their relationship is fraught with disagreements, deep affection, and the development of an Andrastian kink so convoluted it loops back around from blasphemy to being blessed and condoned by Andraste herself. And I am obsessed with them. I'm sure Cole will let me know if I missed anything important and I Will absolutely be accepting further questions at this time because their dynamic is. Incredibly fun.

5. How affectionate are they? What are their top love languages?

Rodaine is not very good at affection unless someone else initiates it. He definitely shows his affection more with quality time and acts of service but he will also do a lot of physical touch and gift giving with a romantic partner. He is smooching Gideon so much and buying him everything he wants 🥰

18. How has their hair changed over time? What is their favorite hairstyle?

When Tierce was younger his hair was longer and it bugged him to no end. He cut it all off shortly before he came out (his mother was not happy with the impromptu haircut but softened a bit post-coming out) After that, he kept it short for a long time, started growing it out longer when he was around 20, just to try it out. Took a while for him to find a length he liked and he now he keeps it anywhere between just past chin length and just past collarbone length. His favorite way to style it is a braid along each side pulled into a half-ponytail, usually with gold thread or red ribbon woven into the braids.

anyway a collection of snippets of gideon writing from me and leas rp last night bc i was having fun writing him

“I’m sorry if I… *complicated* things with your traveling companions.” He isn’t sorry. He would brand himself on Rodaine if he could.

“Leliana… that’s the lady with the red hair, yes?” He is a little alarmed that she may have raided his trunk. “All of your… companions seem quite formidable. I’m afraid if we come across anything I won’t be nearly as helpful.” And he’s only a little bitter about it. Rodaine likes competence, values it. Has always held disdain for those who whine and complain their way through life and its problems. And here he was with a whole crowd of people that all seemed very competent and put together and intimidating and, honestly, rather attractive. And Gideon was still where he’d always been. How could he compare? He could hardly light a fire.

When they get to his bed, he hesitates for a moment. He doesn’t want to let go of Rodaine. It feels like letting go of a life raft. But he flexes his hand and does it and the chasm is back and yawning ever wider. The blue in Gideons robes clashing next to the blue of the warden armor that fit Rodaine like he was always meant to wear it.

Rodaine is holding him and he’s holding him back.

a scene we have discussed many a time, in which rodaine is frozen by trauma upon seeing corypheus' archdemon in haven (as always, rodaine belongs to @sinquisition)

The last of the stragglers are being ushered into the Haven Chantry when the dragon’s screech rips the sky. Gideon grips his staff so harshly his knuckles feel as if they will burst from his skin. His heart is racing and dear Maker, the sound is only getting closer.

What can they do? It’s all so hopeless. He is going to die here. Gideon remembers what it felt like to be burned by the brunt of a fireball. His skin flaming, so much pain and heat it felt like being plunged into ice. And now he’d be engulfed by it. By a dragon’s flaming breath.

His eyes dart to Rodaine for support. Rodaine… who had led the world to victory once before, who had every answer Gideon ever needed, who knew his way around impossible battlefields. But Rodaine’s eyes are planted firmly on the skies. Wide and full of fear, his hand seems to tremble on his staff. And when Gideon finally looks up, it all connects.

It’s not just a dragon. A horrifying beast that could rip in two… it’s an archdemon. Rodaine had had dreams… heard the call of the Darkspawn. They had written it off as fluctuations in the Fade but no.

Maker save me. Blessed are those who stand before the corrupt and wicked and do not falter. Blessed are the righteous the lights in the shadow. Blessed are the peacekeepers-

Gideon only has seconds to make a choice. If he is truly the Herald of Andraste, then there was only one course of action. Rodaine still stands frozen, a look of terror Gideon has only seen on his face on private nights alone when he wakes up on the edge of a scream.

He straightens and shouts, “Move. Now.”

The others begin to run but Rodaine still seems stuck. Gideon shoves him roughly towards Cassandra. “Go.”

And, as if thankful the thinking was done for him, he does. Right as the blast of fire comes raining down from the skies above.

Gideon tries to run. Tries to keep up with the others, but the blast sends him hurdling into the snow, his staff far out of reach. When he looks to where he saw his partner last, all he sees is a curtain of fire.

If Gideon is truly Her Herald, he must have faith Andraste will guide Rodaine to safety with the rest. If it is his destiny to die here so he may live, he will face his fate gladly.

Yet his hands don’t stop trembling when that Darkspawn Lord lands before him. And his heart races faster when it begins to speak.

and thus... conflicting emotions. this part too. i like this part
