I need your opinion! These shoes were given to me by @tomcruise after we shot the scenes I was in with him as his drummer in the Arsenal band in @rockofagesmovie...should I put these things in a glass case and admire them for the rest of my time on this planet or should I be wearing them? Anyone know what model of @nike these are? They came from the #NikeID store in Beverly Hills! Not everyday you get a gift like these! 🌟❤️👟💛#gold #red #nike #sneakers #gift #rockofages #tomcruise #danielwills #arsenal #band #movie #warnerbrothers #custom #sneakers #gift #wear #display #kix #grateful #blessed #drummer #dontstopbelieving #poursomesugaronme #wanted #deadoralive #journey #defleppard #bonjovi (at Warner Brothers Studio) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrNlfvEne7R/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1fur6zq4gpitk

Rock of Ages
Tumblr media
2 hours 3 minutes
Rated PG-13 (Sexual Content, Suggestive Dancing, Some Heavy Drinking, and Language)
Directed by Adam Shankman
Starring Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Cruise
2 out of 4 stars
IN THEATERS NOW
I loved the cast and songs in Rock of Ages but nothing else. Adam Shankman's revival of the popular Broadway play lacks the energy and spectacle feel of the director's previous musical, Hairspray (2007). This movie just tries to be too much. It's got too many songs, too many characters, and too many minutes. It's a shame because Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta are such likable leads. You know Hough from Dancing with the Stars, Footloose, and her publicized relationship with Ryan Seacrest. You probably don't know Boneta unless you were brave enough to watch Mean Girls 2. These are attractive, energetic, terrific singers that I hope to see more of. So I loved them, I loved Tom Cruise (which I'll get to later), and of course I loved the rock songs. "Paradise City?" "Any Way You Want It?" "I Wanna Rock?" I AM IN LOVE WITH EVERY ONE OF THESE SONGS. They're all nicely sung except there's actually no energy in the music sequences. There's no choreography, and in the rare moments where there is it's all really boring and nowhere near as foot-tappingly fun as it was in Hairspray.
So how do I explain the basic plot of Rock of Ages? Well, Hough plays Sherrie, a hot young blonde who moves from Oklahoma to Los Angeles with hopes of becoming a singer. Boneta plays Drew, a wannabe rocker who works in the infamous Bourbon Room, a crazy-ass bar on the Sunset Strip. So they run into one another and Sherrie ends up working with him as a waitress. They soon start hooking up. The bar is owned by Dennis (Alec Baldwin) and managed by Lonny (Russell Brand), who both provide some comic relief. There's also Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), the leader of the rock band Arsenal who starts performing in the bar, Constance (Malin Akerman), a reporter for Rolling Stone who starts to fall for Stacee, and Justice (Mary J. Blige), a rocking manager of a strip club that Sherrie ends up working at later on in the movie. Oh yeah, AND there's also Patricia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), the wife of the local mayor (Bryan Cranston), who's trying to shut down the bar. There's even cameos by Will Forte, Eli Roth (the writer/director of Cabin Fever and the Hostel series? Why is he in this?), and Constantine Maroulis, who starred in the original musical before leaving.
As you can see, Rock of Ages seems like it's gonna be really wild except it's not. I've seen the musical on Broadway and it's a trillion times funnier and crazier. The show brilliantly captures the craziness of the rock age. There's boos and alcohol and beer and hot girls and skin and dancing and sex and strippers and ridiculous hairdos and sweat and  AFNSDFQ@#R2#T)*@$T_@#O@:@%@#)*(@!*$&%!!!!!!!!!! That's what the show feels like. I think the reason the movie fails to be as wild is that they made it PG-13. Of course there's nothing wrong with this; younger audiences need to hear more about Rock of Ages yet because the USA is so annoyingly strict they have to rate movies on levels of inappropriateness. The story here is also completely different from the stage version, which is really bizarre because Chris D'Arienzo, who created the musical, co-wrote the screenplay. Why did they have to change the story so much? I don't exactly remember the story of the stage musical but I know that it involves a woman named Regina except her name is pronounced "ruh-gi-na" instead of "ruh-gee-na."
I've always loved the Drew and Sherrie love in the musical and like I said, Hough and Boneta work very nicely together. I also kinda liked the whole love story between Stacee Jax and Constance even though it's a new subplot to the musical. Luckily Cruise and Akerman also work really nicely together. But did I care about the Catherine Zeta-Jones/Bryan Cranston part of the movie? No way. It doesn't work at all and only adds longer minutes to the film. Mary J. Blige has an incredible voice and her rendition of "Any Way You Want It" is jaw-droppingly awesome. Yet the movie has nothing for her to do. Her character is so underdeveloped and it's not fair because Blige has a terrific screen presence. Brand and Baldwin are funny at times, particularly when they sing "Can't Fight This Feeling," but they're not funny enough. The huge surprise here is Cruise. The original Stacee Jax on Broadway looks much younger than Cruise, but the Mission: Impossible star completely nails it. He's buff as ever, which is a necessity, and he perfectly captures the drunken, deep-down-actually-unhappy behavior of the character. And he can sing! What?! Tom Cruise can sing?! It's shocking but true. No he's not the greatest singer in the world but he does a hell of a great job belting out to such classic rock songs like "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "I Want to Know What Love Is."
This isn't horrible. Every musical number is fun to listen to, even though they're pretty boringly staged (except for the numbers set in the strip club, which I admittedly thought were pretty cool). Yet Rock of Ages is just too wildly uneven and long to pay money to see. Everything in between the music numbers feels dull and lifeless. When the movie realizes that it's being slow and lifeless it just puts a song on and then another and then another and then another and then another. But how can Rock of Ages be boring? HOW?! Do yourself a favor and pay to see the musical on Broadway. You'll enjoy it much much much more. Also, check out Adam Shankman's version of Hairspray, because it's a lot funnier, entertaining, and structurally better than this.

#tbt I have been lucky and blessed to work and jam with some amazing #superstar artists and actors! Working with @shakira on the latest @crest 3D campaign which is still on air in South America after 4 years and having her son Milan play on my drums while filming! Jamming with @wyclefjean during a party in Wynwood at @mapsproduction's backlot studios was a blast! Performing No Woman, No Cry and other #Fugees classics was a dream come true! Shooting @rockofagesmovie as @tomcruiseofficial_ 's drummer was too much fun to even get into!! I have music in my soul and love all aspects of the art of music. ❤️😊🎼🎤🥁#music #love #danielwills #realtor #moverandshaker #dreamer #gobigorgohome #stars #celebrities #inspire #work #play #rock #crest #rockofages #wyclefjean (at Home Sweet Home)
