Holy crap did I have a GREAT time talking with Allan Arkush about his insane, 1983 cult classic rock’n’roll romp, Get Crazy! 

Arkush’s first directorial masterpiece was Rock and Roll High School with the Ramones (1979). Get Crazy was his third film, another fucked-up foray into the fever dreams of R’n’R fandom!

The tales he tells of the making of the film are hilarious and loaded with peripheral rock world kooks. But Arkush started out in the late ‘60s hippie scene as a lighting man at the Fillmore East, and has worked hard in film and TV up to this day, so the stories spread out from all that!

Here is one below that is particularly nuts, but got cut from the Please Kill Me piece for my usual length reasons. Enjoy!

In 1974, while living in his mother’s New Jersey home, broke and sitting on a film school degree, Arkush drove a cab for a year, and this was just one of many stories that haunt his fever dreams:
