Ohh, fuck. Okay, so I read That Stupid Fucking Book (fourth wing) so that a friend would make good on her promise to read Cal Leandros, and I *also* reread all but the last Cal book in preparation for the *opinions* I know my girl is gonna have.
And now I have to go read the "last" Cal book and face down that cliffhanger again, and I genuinely don't know if I'm strong enough.

I thought I was on top of it too, but then I saw this on a website called fantasticfiction.com:
And it has reviews on Good Reads and a description on Google. But when I search the Simon & Schuster website (which is the publisher Google lists), the book isn't listed, nor is there a cover.
I don't remember her ever mentioning this either.
Sigh. There are so many mysteries here.
Forget the Auphe. Rob Thurman is the actual cryptid here.
I'm having a weird Mandela Effect with Thurman's book 'Fetch.' It supposedly came out in 2014 (two years before the Everwar fiasco) but I can't even find a picture of the cover, let alone a copy for sale.
Does anyone know what happened?

Did you know Middlemarch was written by a woman? Mary Ann Evans used the pen name George Eliot to make sure her works were taken seriously, as female authors were generally associated with romance novels.
Middlemarch may have been published in 1872, but the practice of hiding the gender of female authors is far from over. Joanne Rowling published under J.K. at the request of her publisher, “who thought a book by an obviously female author might not appeal to the target audience of young boys.” Even more recently, urban fantasy and science fiction writer Robyn Thurman and thriller authors Christina Lynch and Meg Howrey have written under male pseudonyms, so as to not put off potential male readers.

Harvey Weinstein Argues That None Of His Alleged Assaults Would Constitute A "Sex Act"

Harvey Weinstein Argues That None Of His Alleged Assaults Would Constitute A "Sex Act"
Robyn Beck / AFP / Getty Images
Harvey Weinstein is asking a federal judge to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by six women because, he argues, even if what they allege did happen, none of it would be considered a sex act under the law.
The women — Louisette Geiss, Katherine Kendall, Zoe Brock, Sarah Ann Masse, Melissa Sagemiller, and Nannette Klatt — filed the class-action lawsuit Dec. 6 against Weinstein alleging the now-disgraced Hollywood mogul sexually assaulted them. The allegations range from forcible kissing, insisting on massages while naked, demands to see breasts, and asking to watch him masturbate.
The lawsuit, which names the company he helped found, the Weinstein Company, also alleges the producer’s alleged sexual misconduct was covered up, which amounts to civil racketeering. The women allege that in thwarting Weinstein’s sexual requests, they faced a “credible and objective threat” of being blacklisted by Weinstein and major film producers.
But in his latest court filing in New York, Weinstein’s attorneys argue that a “sex act” only occurs when there is “contact between the penis and the vulva or the penis and the anus,” or the penetration, however slight, of the anal or genital opening of another by a hand, finger, or foreign object “with intent to abuse, humiliate, harass, degrade, or arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person.”
“Neither a kiss (Sagemiller), a hug (Thomas), being asked to give a massage (Brock, Klatt), being ‘chased’ around an apartment (Kendall), nor being asked to watch someone masturbate (Geiss) — even if those alleged events happened — constitutes a ‘sex act’ within the sex trafficking statute” and so the lawsuit should be dismissed, Weinstein’s attorneys argued in their court filing.
The Weinstein Company is also trying to extricate itself from the class action lawsuit, as are those who were members of the board of directors at the time of the alleged misconduct.
Weinstein is already facing multiple civil lawsuits regarding allegations of sexual assault, including from Dominique Huett, who is suing the Weinstein Company in California for $5 million in damages for allegedly being aware of the producer’s predatory behavior and failing to act.
The lawsuits were filed after dozens of women came forward with allegations of sexual assault and harassment in the wake of stories published by the New York Times and the New Yorker.
Weinstein also faces potential criminal charges in California, New York, and the UK.

Book Review: Slashback by Rob Thurman
Review by Jennifer Walter
Slashback is the latest chapter in the Cal Leandros series and I have to say that this is one of the most reflective and twist turning books Robyn has done as so far. The new big monster that Cal and Niko take on this time is Spring-heeled Jack. For the Leandros boys, this case will hit all too close to them. In flashback chapters, you find out just why Jack is after the boys. The boys nearly became a meal for Jack’s murderous protégé, until…well you have to read the book to find out that part. You also find out more about how Cal and Niko first meet everyone’s not so favorite puck Goodfellow. Slashback is full the mayhem, chaos, and Goodfellow’s antics that loyal readers have come accustomed to. Robyn truly outdoes herself with watering the mouths of readers with answers and one explosive reveal at the end that wants this reviewer already wanting the next book already.
For those unfamiliar with the Cal Leandros series:The authors’ name is Robyn Thurman and she uses Rob Thurman as her penname. Besides the Cal Leandros series, Robyn also has the Trickster novels and the Korsak Brothers (aka The Chimeria if you’re looking on her official website) novels. You can find her short stories in the anthologies books Wolfsbane and Mistletoe, Carniepunk, Courts of the Fey, and Kicking It. Both the Trickster novels and the Cal Leandros books are urban fantasy, while the Korsak Brothers novels sci-thriller.
The first book in the series, Nightlife, came out in 2006. There have been eight books so far in the series with Slashback being released in 2013. It follows Niko and Cal Leandros as they deal with Cal’s murderous demonic family, the Auphe and the rest of the supernatural world. Throughout the series you see how close that the brothers are and how they take the meaning of killing for one another to a whole new level. Does the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue have a place in the #MeToo era?
The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is up for debate in the #MeToo era. (Photo: Ben Watts/Sports Illustrated)
Danielle Herrington becoming the third black model to cover the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is an important milestone, but the magazine has triggered a debate over whether the sexy tradition is necessary in the first place.
According to a story published by the Associated Press Friday, “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editor MJ Day says that even though the issue was conceived and shot before the #MeToo movement heated up last fall, it’s about more than just women in swimsuits. Day says the magazine is ‘creating and giving platforms to these women’ and presenting them as multidimensional people.”

Additionally, an interior feature called “In Her Own Words: SI Swimsuit Models Celebrate More Than Just Their Bodies” shows Paulina Porizkova, Olympian Aly Raisman, Hunter McGrady, Robyn Lawley, and Sailor Brinkley Cook posing nude with words like “love,” “truth,” and “power” written on their bodies.
The project, explains SI, is “a platform that allows the voice, the strength and the passion of these women to be expressed in the rawest form … on the naked body … with all the artistic and creative control left to them.”
Each model also penned an essay on the meaning of her chosen words — for example, of “confidence” and “worthy,” McGrady wrote of her path to self-acceptance as a plus-size model.
I am WORTHY, I am FEARLESS, I have CONFIDENCE, I am BOUNDLESS, I am RESILIENT, I am POWERFUL, I am ALL ME. I am no longer bound by the chains that society has put on me to fit a certain mold that has been so confining and brainwashing. Thank You @si_swimsuit @mj_day for taking on the “In Her Own Words” Project and @taylorbphoto for creating it. You continue to break the glass ceiling in a world that is so very afraid to do so.

But lots of people on social media skewered the magazine for a seemingly tone-deaf presentation in light of #MeToo, the anti-sexual-harassment movement. Some debated whether getting naked was empowering or sexually exploitive. And still others asked why nudity was perceived as antifeminist.
I don't have enough patience left in my brain to coherently express everything wrong with Sports Illustrated framing its swimsuit issue as "empowering" and in line with the goals of #MeToo.

I know you believe in what you do, but young girls are still getting the message that they'll be most successful by putting on a bathing suit and showing lots of skin.
— Renee Lukas (@Rent13R) February 13, 2018
This kind of stuff does not help young girls feel better about themselves. It's just objectifying women as usual. I thought we had gotten farther than this.
— Tammy (Smitley) Coleman (@1cutebear) February 13, 2018
However, Day maintains that the new issue, created by an all-female team, was designed precisely with #MeToo in mind. Last week, the long-time editor told Vanity Fair, “It’s about allowing women to exist in the world without being harassed or judged regardless of how they like to present themselves. That’s an underlying thread that exists throughout the Swimsuit Issue. You have Harvard graduates, you have billion-dollar moguls, you have philanthropists, you have teachers, you have mothers — you have a full range of women represented in the alumnus of this magazine, and not one of them failed because they wore a bikini.”
Day also explained in her editor’s letter that the issue is politically charged: the Caribbean location desperate for hurricane relief; the “powerful and poignant” Raisman, who represented sexual assault survivors of the Olympic abuse trial; the models’ diverse bodies and age ranges.
The reaction to the Sports Illustrated cover is not unlike what happened in January when “Despacito” Grammys performer Zuleyka Rivera was scorned for her sexy dance during an event that placed so much emphasis on feminism and the #TimesUp movement. The backlash, Margaret L. Signorella, a professor of psychology and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at Pennsylvania State University, previously told Yahoo Lifestyle, was indicative of a burden placed on women to uphold sexual standards. “We’re still implicitly assuming that women are responsible for ensuring men don’t get out of control with their sexual emotions,” she said.
And the women of SI have a very different take than the majority of commenters on social media — on Friday, they all proudly posted outtakes from the shoot on their social channels.
“A woman does not have to be modest in order to be respected,” wrote Day in her editor’s letter. “There is beauty in not holding back. In confidence. In perseverance. In strength of will as well as strength of body.”
Women do not have to be modest to be respected– Live for you! Everyone should feel comfortable expressing themselves however makes them happy. Women can be intelligent, fierce, sexy, powerful, strong, advocate for change while wearing what makes them feel best. The time where women are taught to be ashamed of their bodies is OVER. The female body is beautiful and we should all be proud of who we are, inside and out. Thank you so much @si_swimsuit @mj_day @darciebaum @ja_neyney @taylorbphoto & the rest of the team.

New York State Has Filed A Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Harvey Weinstein

New York State Has Filed A Civil Rights Lawsuit Against Harvey Weinstein

New York filed a civil rights lawsuit Sunday against not only Harvey Weinstein, but also his brother Robert and the Weinstein Company (TWC). The state’s attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, announced he filed the lawsuit after conducting a four-month-long investigation that uncovered “egregious examples of sexual misconduct by Harvey Weinstein.”
The suit also alleges that TWC repeatedly broke New York state law by failing to protect its employees from Weinstein’s “unrelenting sexual harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.” According to the attorney general’s office, the complaint was filed after investigators spent months interviewing “multiple survivors of Harvey Weinstein’s misconduct.”
The lawsuit reportedly will put a hold on the ongoing negotiations for the sale of TWC. TWC has not yet responded to BuzzFeed News’ request for comment.
“The lawsuit in and of itself does not seek to block the sale,” Eric Soufer, spokesperson for the New York attorney general’s office. Soufer added that the terms of the deal did not disclose the existence of any victims compensation fund.
“We expressed to them how important it is that any deal adequately compensate victims, protect employees, and not reward those who enabled or perpetuated this egregious sexual misconduct,” said Schneiderman’s press secretary, Amy Spitalnick, of the conversations with the potential buyers of TWC. “We were surprised to learn they were not serious about discussing any of those issues or even sharing the most basic information about how they planned to address them.”
Among the things Schneiderman’s office reportedly uncovered is that Weinstein employed three groups of female employees to arrange, secure, coordinate, and perpetuate Weinstein’s sexual conquests.
According to the complaint, the primary job of one group of female employees at TWC was merely to accompany Weinstein to events and to facilitate his sexual conquests. A second group of female employees at TWC was tasked with contacting Weinstein’s sexual partners and ensuring there was space on his calendar for sexual activity, while a third group would follow up with prospective sexual conquests regarding Weinstein’s employment promises.
In addition, investigators also said they discovered that Weinstein threatened to kill employees and their family members, and made quid pro quo offers or demands of sexual favors in exchange for career advancement. There was even a “bible” at TWC that assistants could consult that detailed Weinstein’s preferences on many intimate matters. Weinstein’s drivers in both New York City and Los Angeles were required to keep condoms and erectile dysfunction injections in the car at all times, according to the New York attorney general’s complaint.
One employee was even reportedly flown from London to New York to teach Weinstein’s other assistants how to dress and smell more attractive to their boss, according to the complaint. Investigators said they also discovered that Weinstein had reportedly accosted one female employee while he was naked except for a bathrobe. Despite the fact that the employee reported the incident in 2015 to the human resources and to board members at TWC, no formal action was taken to investigate and to protect employees from further misconduct.
The attorney general’s office said they also discovered that human resources at TWC was not empowered to take any action against Weinstein, and on one occasion one employee saw her complaint to HR directly forwarded to Weinstein.
The civil lawsuit also claims that not only were the board and the company well aware of Weinstein’s sexual predatory practices, but they also included an unusual provision in his contract that effectively monetized, rather than prohibited, ongoing acts of sexual harassment and misconduct, according to the complaint. Weinstein’s contract outlined that if he violated TWC’s “Code of Conduct,” he would face escalating financial penalties: $250,000 for the first instance, “$500,000, for the second such instance, $750,000 for the third such instance, and $1,000,000 for each such additional instance.”
The civil rights complaint alleges that if not for these failings of corporate management and oversight allowed Weinstein to continue to engage in persistent and unlawful conduct with impunity.
Ben Brafman, an attorney for Harvey Weinstein, said in a statement to BuzzFeed News that the former filmmaker believes Schneiderman’s investigation “will demonstrate that many of the allegations against Harvey Weinstein are without merit.”
“While Mr. Weinstein’s behavior was not without fault, there certainly was no criminality, and at the end of the inquiry it will be clear that Harvey Weinstein promoted more women to key executive positions than any other industry leader and there was zero discrimination at either Miramax or TWC,” the statement said. “If the purpose of the inquiry is to encourage reform throughout the film industry, Mr. Weinstein will embrace the investigation. If the purpose however is to scapegoat Mr. Weinstein, he will vigorously defend himself.”
