1 week post op: doing okay. Pain levels okay. Managed to get milk by myself and some tacos.
On 2/28 i underwent a robotic assisted hysterectomy and salpingectomy, leaving only ovaries. I chose this because of easier recovery and less likelihood of nerve damage to my remaining pelvic organs. My reproductive system was so messed up I would likely never have had kids even if I wasn't ace, so I decided to share the details of my messed up innards for posterity and tell you why competent and accessible reproductive healthcare is so so SO important.

At the time I was diagnosed with a huge fibroid in the endometrium and more in the muscle and outside of the uterus I already had known PCOS, a chicken egg sized ovarian tumor removed and natbothian cysts which were bad enough. My uterus was enlarged to 12 week pregnancy size and the biggest fibroid was so big and the bleeding so heavy I was overflowing a menstrual cup at least twice a day for my heaviest days and I had to wear pads with it. My periods also went from five days to almost two weeks. It was well managed with the patch until I had a provoked DVT and had to go off it. Immediately it became much worse. An IUD did not help after it got displaced and it was removed and hysterectomy surgery booked. I suffered months while waiting.
They found adenomyosis (endometrium going in the uterine wall) a bigish cyst, dialated adnexa (vessels in parts of reproductive system which can cause pelvic pain) fibroids, endometriosis in my peritoneum and behind my cervix, endometriosis caused adhesions to my colon (no wonder I was always constipated lately) early changes in endometrium that are the precursor to precancer, and last but not least internal prolapse of the rectum that after begging I finally got repaired after 30 years. It was caused by my caregivers abusively shaming as a child over toilet clogging constipation causing me to hold it more to avoid using the toilet at home giving me more constipation and internal damage, opioids caused further damage after another surgery.
I should have had this done a decade ago. It's criminal that I had to suffer this long. Even one week post op I felt better than I have for months and I'm not even constipated anymore. I'm occasionally bleeding a little because of the vaginal and perineal stitches and very easily tired and I got sore just getting a half gallon of milk, but I actually feel like myself.

🌟Survived repeat endometrial biopsy and I have a big update!
Surgeon and I had a lot to talk about. I told him that I know the mix-up with the first biopsy wasn’t literally his fault, but he said, “Well, this is my practice, so it’s my responsibility. I heard you got the run-around, which is unacceptable.” He took full responsibility and explained the situation more. CVS wouldn’t give me the pain meds I was supposed to take beforehand so I had to dip into my stash. Doc says he always has trouble with CVS not giving patients pain meds these days, so he’s sending some to another pharmacy. I couldn’t have anyone in the exam room with me either😭They said it’s because sometimes people literally faint when they see someone get an EMB, holy shit. I was just super scared again and wanted a hand to hold, so the nurse did it for me, bless. Still painful and terrifying but at least my surgeon is great at distracting. I know he said last time that the pain the procedure causes me is concerning so I asked if it really doesn’t cause this much agony for most and he said NOPE💀 We discussed moving forward with surgery #2. He’s worried about my colitis flaring right now; could be endo invading my colon (which he doesn’t handle, I’d have to see an excision specialist who are mostly out of network). But he didn’t see adhesions during #1, so at least that won’t get in the way. To clarify again, a hysterectomy will cure the adenomyosis but not the possibly hidden endometriosis, which may require further surgery down the line if other treatments don’t help. I’m keeping my ovaries, so this is a possibility (endo responds to estrogen). Surgeon: You’re at the very top of the list, so you tell me when you’re ready to do this. Me: I’m ready now. S: How about Christmas Eve? Does that work for you? M: Really? You can do it then? S: Yeah! M: I’m so down. That’d be the best birthmas present ever. And before my next evil period too. #2 is already approved, but it’s robotic-assisted so it has to be at the right place. What could delay it is if my insurance won’t let us do it at the hospital of my surgeon’s preference. Or if the biopsy comes back positive for something oof, then I’d be passed off to an oncological surgeon. That’s just a what-if, either way the uterus is getting the yeeterus soon. Fingers crossed😩I’ve been on thin ice for so long. Starting prep now with recovery diet, etc. I absolutely would not mind spending the holidays and my birthday recovering, because what else is new? Lmfao
