Been working lately on Fish Props for Dragons: Flight & Fire [HTTYD RP game on Roblox]

Hello, fellow Invader Zim fans! I just wanted to wish you all a happy new year, and provide an update to my work. I haven't done so for a while, but I promise, things are still moving along at my slow pace. Attached are a few screenshots of my still in progress Invader Zim game.

By the way, I didn't half ass this. That's the actual sign from the show. Most of that signage is either stenciled or closely mirrors the content of the show.

Marginally less interesting, but additional stairwells:

This really is a really boring addition, but there's three layers on this map, and there was only one main rampway before. It made the map really a chore to navigate, because you had to walk all the way to a central location to access the other 2/3rds of the city content.

This fixes that.

This concludes this long overdue update. I've also been messing around with the morph script I posted about last time, and I have been tinkering under the hood with various game systems in an attempt to reduce the processing power burdens that are currently entailed.

Not pictured (maybe in another post) is the upgrades to the Voot Runner. For those unaware, I have a flying Voot runner that works. I recently added weapons to it. It's pretty sweet.

What's next, is by and large, Geometry improvement. I have to make the map have less parts and less faces. It's over 300,000 at the moment. I actually killed a guy's decade old computer when he tried to load into the game to take a look around. Some of my older machines (I have over a dozen working computers, so lots of test subjects) can't even load the thing on a fresh copy of Windows I have done a very thorough job of gutting of unnecessary crap.

Gotta fix the geometry.

For those curious, project still is not open to public following. Community is still being actively curated to build up a strong core. But, once we get that city area more filled (and more optimized), we will be accepting new members before the big day. And the big day is going to comprise the beginnings of some crazy stuff, so I hope y'all stay tuned.

Death Evader

funky little horror game i made. go into the elevators, find the buttons, survive and escape. the goal is to see how far you can go without dying.

the video has minor jumpscares + some light flashes

the video shows "THE FOG" which changes the gameplay the most out of the current 4. (each level is randomly generated, including the monster and objectives)

its current gameplay is heavily inspired by "Minus Decendance" on roblox. i forgot to save it in my favorites, and it was pushed off of my recently played. i wanted to play it one more time, so i just made my own spinoff and expanded on the parts i thought were fun.

(i found the game + its sequel later, and both are very fun ^^ i recommend playing Minus Elevation)

i'm working towards adding more objectives and more unique characters, i want each round to feel like a different minigame.

(i don't recommend playing yet since it's still kinda buggy and only has a few characters)

Playing Roblox horror games has to one of my favourite guilty pleasures because they are so

Bad

Like holy shit formulaic doesn’t even describe this, each of them are all so awful in their own ways and that makes me love them

When a developer puts their heart into it and it’s slightly off because lack of experience or knowledge or just it being to experimental you can tell. It’s a dissonance feeling of “This could be good” and it’s bittersweet. I have a few games I check in every once and awhile just to see whether they’ve fixed their issues.

When a developer doesn’t care? When the lobby is full of leaderboards, daily rewards, gamepasses, everything? It’s just so dreadful, yet still interesting.

When you play enough of these, you can just develop a sixth sense for trash. Within the first few seconds of loading into a game I can point at a dozen models and list whether they are free models. Some of them reuse the same camera or flashlight script. It’s always the same chair model stole from half-life, the same plot, AI generated materials or voices. And part of me absolutely DESPISES this because these games are dominating the top charts, but part of me just is in awe of a bad product, when a game prioritizes profit over consumption, it just blows my mind.

I just love dissecting why it’s bad, but my favourite thing is dating them based on what trends they follow.

Story based horror game with a narrator that focuses on randomly selecting a player to be poisoned or something? Released after Camping.

An infinitely looping set of rooms? Released after Doors.

Anything mascot horror with a day structure? Released after Rainbow friends.

Spot the anomaly minigame? Station 8(I think that’s what it’s called)

Roblox’s game market is at like 8x speed of any other platform and it’s so crazy to me because you can literally see fads spontaneously appearing and disappearing within like a week.

8/8/24 dev update!!

Finished the main building! moving onto the dorm and classroom halls now. Gonna have 12 dorm rooms, 3 for each house. Each room will accommodate 2-4 players, in honor of Winx Club, the show that started it all. We'll have 6 "classrooms" in the class hall, counting the headmaster's office and nurse's office as classrooms in that regard.

quick demo showing a blackout in my game

i got inspired after having a blackout in the middle of the night, in a very quiet neighborhood. the silence was paralyzing, and i wanted to recreate that.

instead of a pre-made blackout sound effect, every light source and vent passively makes noise, and has an on/off sound. when a blackout happens, those noises including the background music are silenced.

(since those sounds get really annoying after a while, i've added a setting to disable them)

(also the dead "players" in the video are NPCs)

(i made the video in the style of a "caught on camera" analysis video because it felt fitting. i also didn't want to do a lot of editing :P)
