White Oleander (2002)
Tumblr media
Date watched: 7 December 2019
I was going to watch all new stuff this weekend and then I just didn't.  I had good intentions of working through the stuff on my USB and then I just didn't. And then I have a bunch of new movies on Netflix and Stan to get through (not to mention Amazon) and I was like, "You know what I'm going to watch?  Movies that I've seen before, many times."
Tumblr media
The problem is that I have to be in the mood to watch certain movies, and on Saturday afternoon, I just wanted to wrap myself up in the coziness of something that I've seen before.
White Oleander is a bloody good female-driven movie with a stellar cast.  I had to google what Alison Lohman has been up to lately – turns out she's mostly retired, so good for her.  That's the way to do it.  Make some money and get the fuck out before they can start complaining that you've lost your looks.
Tumblr media
Fucking Hollywood.
I think the most tragic part of this movie – well, one of the most tragic, let's face it – is Renee Zellweger's storyline. It breaks my goddamn heart every single time.  She and Astrid could've really made each other happy but it was taken away from them. So fucking sad.

Idea for new Steve Harrington x Reader story. "Nancy's wedding" coming soon.
Okay, so, I'm planning a Steve Harrington x Reader story. Maybe a series, I don't know. It would have fake dating. It would be set in the early 90's and in Chicago.
The summary would be something like: Steve and Robin decided to move out of Hawkins when their friends moved on with their lives away from it. That's how they ended up sharing an apartment in Chicago, working at a fancy Hotel (maybe, I'm still working on it). Everything seems to be working for them until one day they received the invitations to Jonathan and Nancy's Wedding, which would take place in Hawkins. Steve doesn't want to go back because he feels he hadn't accomplished anything worth telling; plus, he doesn't want to be alone. That's when Robin suggests that he takes Y/N, their coworker, as his plus one.
At first I thought about making it a one shot but then I felt this story needs more than one chapter. Also, I'm going to make references to the TV show ER because I saw it recently and I love Noah Wyle. It won't be much, though, just little brushes here and there.
Lot's of love, by!! ❤❤

ROBIN GREENHILL
DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE
BRENDA PENNY
AVIVA K. BOBB
REVA GOETZ
JAMES SPEARS
JAMIE LYNN SPEARS
VIVIAN THOREEN
SAM INGHAM III
BLACKBOX SECURITY
LYNNE SPEARS
BRYAN SPEARS
LARRY RUDOLPH
JODI MONTGOMERY
JERYLL COHEN
GERALDINE WYLE
ANDREW WALLET
i don’t know how any of these people sleep at night but all of them are horrible, horrible people. do not forget their names. do not forget their faces. they must be held accountable. unfortunately, this list will grow as we research more into other conservatorship cases. this is not just about britney but EVERY person who is a victim of the same situation as her. it is a violation of not just constitutional rights but human rights. as britney stated in her june 23rd court hearing, it is extremely close to trafficking. conservatorships target DISABLED PEOPLE. if there was no capacity declaration filed for someone like britney spears, think of how many others didn’t have one filed either to have all of their rights stripped away. i will say it over and over again, but this is a MASSIVE failure of the system. we must fight to expose the injustice and corruptness in this system that we have to live in. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER TO EXPOSE THE TRUTH AND STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT.

Thoughts on Leverage: Redemption episode 1
Tumblr media
Let’s go steal a revival!
I can’t even begin to explain how much I enjoyed the first episode of Leverage: Redemption. It was the perfect antidote to all my conflicted feelings about the Loki finale.
I first discovered Leverage last year – very late to the party. Leverage originally aired between 2008-2012. At the time, I would’ve been deep in my BBC Merlin phase and I wasn’t paying attention to much else.
Over the years, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Leverage and last year, in the grips of pandemic horribleness, I finally sat down to watch it.
And I was absolutely blown away.
Every good thing you’ve heard about this show? 110% accurate. It’s got everything: heists, found family, Robin Hood-style wealth redistribution, sticking it to the Man, and an incredible cast of complex and loveable characters. It balances the case-of-the-week with larger character and story arcs. And it holds up better than a lot of other shows from this era.
When I heard they were doing a revival, I was very excited. Even more so when I found out they were bringing back most of the original cast.
Tumblr media
I can only guess how fans who watched the show in real time must be feeling right now. I imagine it’s like seeing and old friend again and picking up right where you left off.
The crew feel like more mature versions of themselves while staying true to their roots. In the intervening years, they’ve expanded: they now have crews all over the world, doing the same kind of heists they used to do on a larger scale. But the main team of Parker, Hardison, and Eliot haven’t been in the field for awhile. Sophie is retired and reeling from the death of Nate (RIP Nate.) They come together to mourn and decide to do a con to cheer Sophie up. For old times sake!
They go to an art gallery with no real plan and Sophie happens upon a robbery in process.
Enter: Harry Wilson.
Tumblr media
Harry, played by Noah Wyle, is the new guy. There was some early speculation that he’d been recast in the role of Nate, but that didn’t pan out. Harry Wilson is a lawyer. He works for a shady pharmaceutical tycoon/arts patron named Fletcher Maxwell. The Leverage crew has taken down countless entitled rich jerks in their adventures and it’s always satisfying to watch.
Harry is haunted by his last case: he tried to convince Maxwell to settle with the group that’s suing him. It didn’t work. Now Harry’s out for revenge. Problem is, he’s an amateur. He’s never stolen anything.
The Leverage team agree to come together for one last job. Sophie realizes Maxwell is trying to legitimize himself through his gallery patronages. They plot to sell Maxwell a fake Rembrandt and make him the mockery of the art world.
It’s such a joy to see the plot come together. Every episode of the old show came with a fun reveal sequence at the end showing how they pulled off the con. There are a lot of callbacks to the old show: the big reveal at the end, the craven villain being hauled off by the authorities, the banter between the teammates, even the camera work. There’s a signature shot in many old episodes where the entire team is filmed from above walking off in separate directions. This is referenced early in the episode when they all walk away from Nate’s grave together.
Tumblr media
I think they did an excellent job of explaining Nate’s absence while also honouring what he was to the show and the team. They’re carrying on in a way that Nate would be proud of and it’s really lovely to see. Hardison and Eliot still have their banter. Parker still gets excited about jumping off things and climbing into vents. But they’ve also grown up. Eliot owns a fleet of food trucks, Parker’s in therapy, and Hardison’s working with refugees. They’ve all levelled up into the best versions of themselves and they work together like a well-oiled machine.
Tumblr media
Harry’s just starting out on his journey of redemption, but now that he’s a member of the Leverage crew, I’m sure he’ll find it. It’s amazing how well he fit in. Maybe it’s because Noah Wyle and Christian Kane were both in The Librarians together. It's so difficult to bring a new player into an established dynamic, but if the first episode is any indication, they're pulling it off!
Tumblr media
Overall, this was a solid first episode! They did one job, but they left room for a bigger season-spanning mystery. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Leverage reboot and Noah Wyle’s role in it. I totes trust the original writers to not torpedo Parker’s Mastermind role, so I have come up with some other ways he might star in the new Leverage yet not be The Main Mastermind.
-Bright-eyed, bushy-tailed reporter who starts off as a client and decides, hey, this Robin Hood stuff is awesome and he wants to help people too. Maybe he originally ends up at Leverage because the higher-ups keep trying to bury his exposÊs on corrupt rich people. So basically he sniffs out baddies for the team and gets adopted and learns some stuff.
-Sophie’s new boy toy.
-Grad student turned baby criminal who wants to learn from The Best OMG.
-A mastermind of a new Leverage International team who works under the OT3.
-Sterling’s assistant who is secretly a huge Leverage fan and tries very hard to keep a straight face when Sterling does the whole whoops I was not paying attention for a moment while Team Leverage takes down someone corrupt but I’m 100% taking credit for it later’. Waves at the crew behind Sterling’s back and has at least one fanboy moment he is talking to The Hardison!!!1!
-Literally they give him a bad perm and he replaces Nate Dr. Who style and nobody mentions it except some offhand line about: did Nate get like, botox or something? Since he and Sophie are retired, they defer to Parker’s Masterminding.
