Brake System Inspection
When a customer complains of noise or vibration or smells a burning smell when braking, a brake system inspection is the first step. This involves inspecting the brake pedal, brake fluid and brake lines & hoses. The brake assemblies (disc and drum) and parking brake are also inspected.
The front and rear brake assemblies are removed to get a good view of the pads and the caliper. Brake rotors must be machined smooth when pads are replaced. To know more about Brake System Inspection Kallangur, visit the Murrumba Auto Care website or call 732856933.
The brake pedal is the driver’s physical connection to the braking system and provides feedback on how well the system is operating. Spongy, mushy or squishy brake pedals can indicate a variety of concerns, including air trapped in the hydraulic system, excessive pedal travel or other mechanical problems.
A spongy pedal can also be caused by a loose master cylinder push rod or a worn pedal bushing. Your mechanic can check for this problem by blocking the master cylinder ports and then depressing the pedal. This test will help determine if the problem is in the pedal mechanism or if it’s an internal symptom like a weak return spring or maladjusted push rod.
Regular brake inspections keep the components that make up the braking system in optimal working condition, ensuring maximum stopping power and helping to prevent accidents and improve overall road safety. If you’re in the Kallangur, Petrie, North Lakes, Lawnton or Murrumba Downs area and need a brake inspection, contact Dog Tyred today!
Your brake system uses hydraulic fluid to amplify the force you apply on your vehicle’s brake pedal to actuate the rotors and stop your car. But this important liquid can get contaminated or depleted over time.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it will absorb moisture from the air over time. The moisture decreases the fluid’s boiling point, which can lead to a spongy brake pedal.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) regulates the specifications of all brake fluids and their boiling points. Most vehicles use DOT 3, which is clear to amber in color and has a lower boiling point than DOT 4 and DOT 5.1. The higher boiling points of DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 cannot be mixed with DOT 3 because they will cause the fluid to foam.
In addition to ensuring your brake pads are in good condition, you’ll want to make sure the lines that carry brake fluid from the master cylinder to your wheel brakes are working well. These steel lines are subject to the same stresses as the rest of your braking system and should be inspected regularly.
While a cracked brake hose may seem like a minor problem, it could quickly lead to the collapse of the entire line and loss of pressure. Visually inspect the hoses for cracks and other damage. You can also try pumping the brake pedal and flexing the hose to see how it responds. A hose that changes shape should be replaced.
Whether your vehicle uses disc brakes or drum brakes, the brake assemblies must be checked. The three main parts of the brake assembly are the brake pads, rotors and brake calipers. When you press the brake pedal, the hydraulic fluid forces a piston into each brake caliper, which compresses the brake shoes or brake pads against the rotor to slow and stop your wheels and vehicle.
The rotors must be inspected for excessive wear so that metal isn’t rubbing against metal. The brake pads must be inspected for proper thickness to ensure they create sufficient friction to slow and stop your wheel.
Brake lines and hoses are also important to check. Rubber hoses can wear over time and brake lines may become subject to corrosion or other damage.
Although it’s not a part of your vehicle’s primary brake system, the parking brake is important to overall vehicle safety. The parking brake uses levers and cables to hold the vehicle stationary while parked, or to supplement the primary braking system in certain driving situations.
The emergency (parking) brake can be engaged with a handle, lever, pedal, or push button. The simplest way to maintain your parking brake is by using it regularly. Regular use keeps the cables from becoming corroded or stuck.
The braking system is a crucial component of overall vehicle safety. Regular brake inspections will keep your car or truck running safely and efficiently. Schedule an appointment for a brake inspection today! We serve Baldwinsville, NY and the surrounding areas. We look forward to serving you! To know more about Brake System Inspection Kallangur, visit the Murrumba Auto Care website or call 732856933.

Tips For Passing Roadworthy Inspections
When it comes to vehicle safety, a roadworthy inspection is one of the most important things you can have done. Whether you are selling your car, or you need to have it checked before you re-register it for driving, these inspections are vital to ensure that your car is safe to drive. However, it’s not uncommon for cars to fail a roadworthy inspection. The reason why is usually due to a simple problem that can easily be fixed. This article will go over some of the most common reasons vehicles fail a roadworthy inspection, and some tips that you can use to help prepare your vehicle for a roadworthy inspection.
Failing a roadworthy inspection is not the end of the world, but it does have a few repercussions that can be costly. If you are in the process of selling your car, a roadworthy inspections will reveal any costly repairs that need to be made before you can sell it on. This will allow you to factor these costs into your asking price and ensure that the new owner is paying a fair price for your vehicle.
A failed roadworthy inspection can also have other consequences, such as fines or even suspension of your licence. This is because, according to Allianz Insurance, failing a roadworthy inspection means that your vehicle is unsafe for other people on the roads. Failing a roadworthy inspection can also be expensive because it often requires the services of a qualified mechanic to fix any problems that are found.
There are a few things you can do to improve your chances of passing a roadworthy inspection, including checking your vehicle regularly for any red flags that need fixing. Here are a few of the most common reasons vehicles fail a test, and some tips you can use to make sure your vehicle passes:
Broken or Damaged Tyres
There’s nothing worse than having faulty tyres. They can be extremely dangerous and can lead to an accident. This is why roadworthy inspectors will check all of the tyres on your vehicle, including the spare. They will be looking for cracks, bulges, uneven wear, excessive or uneven tread and any other tyre related issues that could affect its performance on the road.
The lights on your car are crucial for driving safely and avoiding accidents. Faulty lights can hinder your ability to see, cause distractions and in the worst case scenario, lead to an accident. This is why roadworthy testers will check your headlights, tail lights and hazard lights during a roadworthy inspection. This includes checking for blurry, smokey or dimmed lights, blown bulbs, water or calcium buildup and any other defects that could impact your driving safety.
If you have any concerns about your vehicle, or are getting ready for a roadworthy inspection, don’t hesitate to contact the team at Golden Plains Mechanical. We can conduct a comprehensive inspection and help you get your vehicle back on the road quickly and safely.

Remote controlled cars are a lot of fun, even if you're also into regular cars. Unlike their larger brethren, you don't need complicated legal entanglements like "insurance" or "roadworthiness inspections" to drive them. A vibrant community full of other weirdos who are also constantly breaking little plastic control arms is on offer. You'll make life-long friends and lure each other into spending thousands of dollars on toys.
It's that cost which bothers me. You see, I already spend enough money on cars. And I'm not especially easy on the equipment. When it comes down to having a functioning car that can get me to work, or a tiny plastic car that's fun, unfortunately the big metal thing is going to win every single time. How else will I make money with which to spend on the tiny plastic car? It was a real dilemma. Bowing out of the third shrunken-shitbox race event in a row because of cashflow problems had been weighing on my conscience. What would the other money-wasting folks think about my reticence to enter into insane amounts of debt?
I decided that I would try to cobble together something, anything, out of my pile of scraps. The same three things always break on RC cars, though, so I was not able to produce a complete car. By then, as if through a miracle, the multiple coffees and semi-legal convenience-store trucker stimulants had kicked in, and I was able to open my third eye to allow the solution to my problem to manifest. Or so my lawyer will tell you. He's big on exploring the limits of religious freedoms lately. I had lots of broken metal cars lying around the property, and there was no explicit rule in the local RC car club that all cars needed to be the same scale in order to compete.
Well, I'd like to tell you that I won first with my 1:1-scale remote-controlled Ford Econoline, but I didn't. Some of those little lipo buggies are fast as all hell, and avoided getting crushed beneath my wheels. Plus, it's hard to gauge how close you are to rolling the van when you're not driving it yourself. By the time we had gotten a bumper jack under it to move the wreckage back off of the vendor stand, it was too late for any more heats of the race. I'll be back next year, though. My neighbour left out a Fisher-Price Cozy Coupe in his alley. Bet that thing weighs way less.

What Makes a Junk Car Valuable? Key Factors That Impact Price
If you have a junk car, it might surprise you to learn that it still has value. Whether it's seen better days or doesn’t run anymore, your junk car could be worth more than you think. Various factors determine how much a junk car is worth, from its make and model to the demand for its parts. Here, we'll explore the key factors that impact the value of junk cars and how selling its components—like the engine—can offer a profitable alternative.
1. Condition of the Engine and Other Parts
The engine is often the most valuable part of any vehicle, even one that’s no longer roadworthy. Engines that are still functional or can be refurbished can be especially valuable. Companies like Engine Xperts specialize in high-quality used engines, showing the demand for reliable replacement parts. If your car’s engine is in good shape, you might consider selling it separately to maximize your return.
2. Make, Model, and Year
The make, model, and year of your car can significantly impact its value. Certain brands are in higher demand for parts, especially if the model is rare or has a reputation for reliability. For instance, engines from popular brands like Toyota, Ford, and Honda are often sought after due to their reputation for durability. On the other hand, newer vehicles often have parts that are worth more because they align with current technology and safety standards.
3. Market Demand for Parts
The market for used auto parts is dynamic, with certain parts more in demand depending on the season or industry trends. For example, if there’s a shortage of certain car parts, this can drive up prices. Junk cars with parts that fit many vehicle models or are difficult to find are generally more valuable. High-demand parts include transmissions, alternators, and, of course, engines.
4. Weight and Metal Value
Even if a junk car has no functioning parts, its scrap metal value can add up. Steel, aluminum, and other metals are always in demand, and the value of these metals fluctuates with the market. Junkyards pay by weight, so a larger vehicle like an SUV or truck will typically fetch a higher price.
5. Location and Transport
Location can affect a junk car’s value. For instance, some buyers might offer more if the car is close to them to reduce transport costs. If you’re willing to deliver the car to a junkyard or a buyer, this can sometimes increase your offer.
6. Current Scrap Market Prices
The scrap metal market constantly fluctuates, meaning the value of your junk car can vary depending on when you decide to sell. Keeping an eye on scrap metal prices can help you determine the best time to sell if you’re looking to maximize your profit from a car that’s mostly valuable as scrap.
Selling Parts Separately vs. Selling the Whole Car
If you’re looking to make the most out of a junk car, consider selling its individual parts. Engines, transmissions, and other essential components are often more valuable sold separately than as part of a whole car. This approach may take more time, but it can offer a better return.
For those interested in quality engines or looking for used car engines, Engine Xperts offers an extensive range of inspected, certified engines that meet high standards of performance and reliability.
Conclusion
While it might be tempting to sell a junk car as a whole for convenience, understanding the factors that impact its value can help you make a more informed decision. Whether through selling parts like the engine or scrapping it entirely, even the most rundown vehicle can still offer value.

Give me 6, 35 and 62 for my Emerald boy!
Okay this took way longer to write than I expected, sorry for the delay!
6. Do they collect anything/have a collection?
(April 2021: Six Months Before The Embrace)
“So? Whatcha think?”
Emmy popped the hatch of his newly decorated home and beamed up to Javi; said new home being the back of the silver ‘88 Subaru that Javier had bought for him. The dented hatchback’s attempt at rear seating had been folded flat into a cargo area and outfitted into a sleeping space only someone as small as Emmy could fit in. Fairy lights had been stapled to the sagging fabric roof and a brand new extra large dog bed sat in the middle of the cargo area. A nest of dorm bedding and pillows at least made the space feel more like it was for a person. And, nestled snugly in every leftover nook were assorted potted plants from Emmy’s now abandoned dorm.
Most of them were desert plants, succulents and the like. There were a couple tiny cacti, an overzealous wax plant, a tall shoot in its own bright orange pot with equally bright orange flowers, and a few squat plants with round leaves and pale peach blooms. A single snake plant just brushed the roof, barely small enough to even fit.
Emmy amused himself with Javi’s face journey as he took in the sights. The quirked brow and lowered sunglasses, the snort of air and slight shake of his head, and finally an audible chuckle as he stepped closer and ducked under the hatch door. However it was one specific pot that caught the man’s full attention. A black cylinder pot with bright red and orange marigolds. “Those aren’t supposed to be in bloom right now…” Javi mumbled. It was true, April was too early for those even in Arizona, but Emmy simply wriggled past him and plucked the pot from its spot.
“That’s ‘cause these aren’t real marigolds. But they’re my favorite and I like lookin’ at ‘em all year long.” Emmy explained as he held the pot out to Javi for inspection, “They’re just paper, but I really like ‘em. The guy who made ‘em even sprayed them with some kinda oil so they’d smell like the real thing. Just… not as strong.”
Javi reached out and thoughtfully traced the thin paper petals, then leaned in just enough to catch the scent; Emmy beamed once more at the rare display of softness before tucking the marigolds back into their designated spot. He took advantage of the fact Javi was already leaning under the hatch to grab the lapels of that leather jacket and hoist himself upright into a kiss.
“Still can’t believe we’re actually doin’ this.” Emmy mused when they finally parted, just enough to speak, “Just you, me, the open road, the stars and—” “—and your small army of potted plants.” Javi chuckled, “You sure they’re roadworthy?”
Emmy snorted quietly and offered a devious grin as he brushed noses with Javi.
“As roadworthy as I am. We've all been survivin' for years in a suffocatin' dorm with one window; I think they’ll be fine livin' out the back of a Subaru, just like me.”
Javi grinned back. His smile sharper somehow in a way Emmy couldn't place…
“A’ight, Red, you're the plant expert. Now let's get this show on the road; we've got moonlight to burn and a city to leave in our dust.”
35. Speaking of items, what is their most prized possession? If they have one that is.
(October 2021: Four Days After The Embrace)
What a mess.
Emmy had been pacing half the night waiting for the tow truck to bring back his precious car and now that it was here, what shallow hope he'd held onto slipped into despair. Sure, that silver Subaru was over three decades old and already dented up. And sure, it had been a gift from Javier, who was now into the wind without a second thought towards Emmy or this car. But it had been the first car that truly belonged to Emmy. It wasn’t some fancy sports car his dad gave him permission to drive, or some soulless gift of necessity from a century old rich vampire lady he barely knew. It had been his ticket to freedom, it had been his home for the past six months. It had whatever was left of his worldly possessions after Javi ditched him and hit the highway in his own car. His little sanctuary on wheels…
… and someone had broken into it. What was left of Emmy’s thready heartbeat dropped at the sight. Glass all over the inside from the busted window, radio gone, band merch from concerts all over the country strewn about or outright missing. He popped the hatch and crawled in to right the overturned potted plants and straighten up the dog bed. Surprisingly, the fairy lights were still affixed to the ceiling.
Emmy peeked over the back of the passenger seat and gasped when he realized the glovebox was hanging open. A mess of papers and polaroids were all over the floorboards. Frantic, the fledgling vampire practically rolled himself over into the seats to hurriedly scoop up the spill. Cradling all the loose bits to his chest as if they were the only pieces left of his life…
… because they were. Each silly poem Javi had written to him, each little sticky note that had been left on his phone when Emmy would wake up alone, every romantic handwritten tag from flower bouquets, every Polaroid the two had taken together because of Javier’s refusal to be photographed digitally. Every shard of his shattered dream, like a stake to the heart.
Then came the tears. Hot and crimson like the blood that sustained him. Emmy clutched the keepsakes tighter and buried his face in his knees to cry freely. Too trapped in the moment to care if the lady he was borrowing these clothes from was going to mind fresh bloodstains.
Eventually Emmy heard the distinct clicking of paws trotting across smooth concrete. Jasper didn't seem to care that the hatch was open and wriggled his way in via the broken window instead, whining pitifully and trying to lick at Emmy’s face. After coyote slobber ended up in his ear, Emmy finally flinched and gave in to Jasper’s demand for inspection. Careful to return the pile of papers and photos to the glovebox for safe keeping... Why was he even keeping them anyways? Shouldn’t he throw these things out? Javi wasn’t coming ba—
More coyote kisses, this time lapping at the crime scene that was Emmy’s blood-streaked face. Emmy sputtered and crowded the squirming canine into his lap, hugging Jasper tightly and taking a few deep breaths in and out. He didn't need to breathe anymore, but it felt better to.
Jasper refused to sit still until he had cleared Emmy’s face and then plopped protectively across the fledgling vampire’s lap.
“Maybe it’ll be okay to daysleep in here, just for one more night. That mansion guest room just… feels wrong.” Emmy sniffled as he gave Jasper skritches, “The garage door is closed anyways and you’ll keep me safe, won't you? Guard?”
The coyote simply tilted his head at Emmy until the command word had been spoken. Then he stood at attention and sniffed the air before hopping over the back of the seat and trotting off, nose to the ground, to circle the garage. Emmy rolled himself over the back of the seat as well, pulled the hatch shut, and buried himself in the dog bed under the nest of blankets that had once been his sanctuary. It wasn't long before he heard the tinkling of glass and felt the weight of the vehicle shift as Jasper wormed his way back in. The familiar warm lump of fur plopped down on top of Emmy and the blankets.
In the darkness, Emmy let his mind wander to the situation at hand. He couldn’t keep living like this, at the mercy of other people. What if this rich lady decides to do the same thing Javier had and turns on Emmy the first time he upsets her? No, he wouldn’t let that fuck him over a second time. All he had to do was get his beloved car fixed up and find somewhere else to live before anything bad could happen again. And maybe he could text Victoria and see if she would be cool with a roommate that came with his own car and guard-coyote…
62. What’s something that really repulses them?
(October 2021: Nine Days After The Embrace)
He had to be the worst vampire in the history of vampires.
Emmy continued his staring contest with the blue vinyl lunchbox that sat open on the kitchen table. Audrey had made good on his word and brought the fledgling a night’s worth of blood from a nearby Texas longhorn cattle ranch. Six whole bags. From across the open floor plan, in the living room, he could hear the voices of some reality show from Victoria’s TV. Victoria herself was seated on the couch and scrolling through her phone while Jasper laid at her feet and tracked the movements of the people on the screen.
He hated this part. This cursed appetite he’d originally agreed to as a compromise to spend eternity with the man he loved. Now it was like a looping scene of mocking laughter, just another consequence of an idiot mistake he’d made that he would never be allowed to forget. He shook the thought from his head before it could distract him further and finally plucked one of the blood bags from the insulated container. There was a proper way to drink from these, but it took too long and Emmy just wanted this over as quick as possible.
With care not to spill anything, Emmy punctured the corner of the bag with a fang and tore a sizable hole in it. The contents were quickly emptied down Em’s throat in a single draught; the less he had to taste it the better. Like drinking cough medicine that tasted like a jar of coins. Animal blood just hit like that to his kind, he guessed. He lowered the now empty bag to take a breath he didn’t actually need and caught Victoria’s glance over the top of her phone. She was hiding the wrinkle of her nose behind the screen but her unspoken message was clear as day: I don’t understand why you do this to yourself.
He replied with the same grimacing smile he’d given her the night they met after a bet gone wrong. It earned him a silent snort and a little eyeroll. He didn’t ever expect Victoria or anyone else to get it; he just couldn't bring himself to drink from people, no matter how much easier it would make his unlife. The act was still deeply tied to all the times Javi had enthusiastically bitten him in their throes of passion and how it had flooded Em with the warmest feeling in the world. How loved it had made him feel. The almost drunken look of love and adoration Javi would give him after a drink. It had been special. Private. The idea of doing that with someone else so casually made him queasy, no matter how much the curse inside him now hungered for human blood. After all, he didn’t want to end up just like Javier.
But. He still had to eat. So. Disgusting animal blood would have to do.
