Road tripping I love road trips. Be it between cities, states, or even countries. And especially with good friends. On our second day in Stockholm a few years ago, we figured driving to Copenhagen was not such a bad idea. Hertz did not have an issue with us returning the car to their office on the other side of the border. The cost was an issue though. Renting within Sweden is cost-effective, but not if you take it across borders. We tried to wrangle a better rate and mentioned vague stuff about both Scandinavian countries being like siblings and all that. But all fell on deaf ears. As the adage goes, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’ Our choice was going to be Swedish – either the quirky Saab or reliable Volvo. Nevermind that one was on the verge of bankruptcy while the other is owned by Geely. It is the spirit that counts. Hertz did not have any Saabs with them but suggested an excellent Volvo V50. As the only driver, I did not want to drive without taking as many pit stops along the way. Besides, it would also be an opportunity for everyone, especially the grown-up kids, to stretch their legs, and vent out a bit of pent-up frustration too, in a nice sort of way. And earn lots of laughs too.
