THE ONLY WAY IS UP

It had been a long and trying process to get to this point. The band had been through many ups and downs over the past year and a half. They had a line-up change when Miyeon left and Yein joined. There had been a time when the band had almost fallen apart, but they stuck through it. 6tunes were a family and it showed in how they interacted with each other. Their chemistry was strong and solid. Each member played a role in the band’s dynamic and image. They were individuals, but together, they were one.

Changyoon was the dad of the band. He was the eldest and the most mature (though some would dispute that). He was the big brother and the one who (tried to) keep them in check. He favoured his sister and it showed. Hyojin was the second eldest and the only other male of the group. Together, the two boys were known as the parents of the band and often had the most skinship. Hyojin was the one who kept the maknae line crazy. Yein was the honest and sassy one who often was misunderstood by everyone but the band. Sakura was the sweet and caring one who was the quiet and somewhat shy other rapper. She made up 1/3 of the maknae line. Sophie and Yena made up the other 2/3 of the maknae line. Together, they were the troublemaking duo. They often kept the boys on their toes making sure the girls didn’t get too out of hand or crazy. They were always fan favourites with their antics and their personalities. Yena was the baby and could get away with anything, and she knew it. Individually, the members of 6tunes were different, some more so than others. When they were together, however, the induvial members quickly became one, becoming one big family when together.

Like any group or band, 6tunes fought through hard times and sad times. Losing Miyeon was hard on the band and it tested their relationship, but it wasn’t long before they discovered Yein and she seemed to fill in the missing void left after Miyeon’s sudden departure. She was the opposite of Miyeon, but she rounded the group off perfectly, and it showed. The struggle to get noticed was the hardest. They had played at countless events, uploaded numerous videos, even performed regularly on the streets of Seoul. The siblings’ fame brought some fans to their shows, but it was never enough to break through. If Yena had not been a famous streamer and Changyoon a famous rapper and sns personality they might not have gotten as many fans when they first started. Fans were everything to a group. They were the deciding factor on if a group succeeded or failed. 6tunes didn’t make music for the fans, but the fans were a bonus. No, 6tunes made music for them. They made music because they loved it.

Even through all the struggle and hard times, the band was finally able to make their debut with Baby. They had signed to BMSJ Entertainment while they were still struggling on the Hongdae streets and the company had helped shape them into the band they eventually debuted as. It was a bittersweet and well-deserved moment that the band couldn’t believe had happened. They had worked through hours of playing, bleeding fingers, sore throats, headaches, broken strings, writer’s block, hunger, sleep deprivation, everything to get to where they are now. Their debut song was followed by two more with their fanbase increasingly growing. Their debut was 15 October 2019, a date that none would ever forget.

The date now was somewhere in December 2020. 6tunes have just celebrated their one-year anniversary. Their fanbase is even larger and their songs more popular. They had achieved their first music show win with Sorry in the first half of 2020. It was one of the first times that anyone had seen Changyoon cry, and it was on recorded tv. As embarrassing for him as it was, and for some of the other members, they all felt so blessed and thankful. Their hard work had paid off and they had won. The first win is always the hardest, and many groups can go years without ever getting a win. Call it luck or fate, but 6tunes didn’t need to wait so long. Their first win was followed by their second win six months later.

The band were now attending the annual music awards after having been nominated for awards like ‘rookie of the year’, ‘best song’, etc. The six band members were dressed to the nines and looked fancy as hell. None of them looked like themselves and it showed in how they conducted themselves. Still, the band felt honoured enough to be invited, let alone nominated. The red carpet and photos were fun for them, though the siblings seemed more at home in front of the cameras than the rest. Of course, the siblings themselves were their own story. Together they were both trouble and brought trouble.

Neither band member had ever been to any awards show before, so the whole process was surreal and new to them. 6tunes had gone from a struggling band who practiced wherever they could, to now being able to attend awards show as a debuted band. None of them ever expected to be nominated for anything, let alone within their first year or two and yet here they were. None could believe it. The band were well behaved as they listened and watched. They seemed to ignore the cameras (though the maknae line made themselves known when the cameras passed, much to ChangJin’s dismay). They felt out of place being surrounded by so many groups when they were a band. Still, each member was excited and nervous, despite none expecting to win.

Finally, it came to the categories the band was nominated in. The first category was ‘song of the year’ and the band were not surprised to find they had lost. They lost out in the band and album categories too. While it was disappointing, they had never expected anything. They were gracious and respectful when each winner was announced. Finally, their final nominated category – rookie of the year. Having lost their other categories, 6tunes were prepared to lose again. So when the winner was announced, the band was not prepared.

“6tunes!”

It had taken a few seconds for the reality to sink in. They had won! They had actually won an award. It was unexpected and surreal. The members felt like they were dreaming, and they could be seen pinching and hitting each other to make sure that it was in fact happening. The band members made their way onto the stage, grins plastered across their faces. There were tears coming from most of the members (with some trying to hold them back). Changyoon accepted the award and the members subtly pushed Sophie to the microphone. She seemed to be the best with her words.

The girl spoke through smiles and soft tears. “Wow, we can’t believe this! We never expected to win with so many amazing groups competing with us. We just want to thank our fans. Tunies, you are the reason we are here right now, and we could not be more grateful. We also want to thank our manager and our company who helped us get here today. 6tunes are a band and we never once expected to be standing here today as the winners of this amazing award. Thank you so much!”

6tunes had finally made it. They had debuted, they had achieved their first win, and now, they had won rookie of the year. The only way they could go was up.

Lee Changyoon still felt guilty for accepting the contract with Sphere and leaving 6tunes (except for covers). No matter how many times the band told him not to feel guilty, he would probably always feel it. Only the siblings got signed, so at least he wasn’t the only one to leave.

The keyboardist had been reading the fliers when he looked up to spot his bandmate. Smirking, Changyoon made a beeline for their bass guitarist. ❝ Sophie, my lovely Sophie. ❞ He handed her a flier. ❝ Do oppa a favour and take one? Have you seen Yennie yet? I think she’s around here somewhere? ❞

“ you’ve got to be kidding me ? ” gahyeon snorts, shaking her head. “ he really said that to you ? you mean that ? ” she questions, making sure she wasn’t getting the story wrong. turns out, she wasn’t – and gahyeon wasn’t about to let it go. “ oh my goodness, guys these days are absolutely disgusting … ” she groans, swirling her drink in her hand as she glances around the small bar they’re sitting in. “ the fact that some guy would actually walk up to you and act like some bad dude, as if putting on some facade was going to impress a girl … revolting. absolutely revolting. ” she sighs into her glass before she takes another sip. for a moment, gahyeon tries to glance around to see if she can catch sight of the guy, but if she’s being honest, she wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a police lineup if she tried.

after a couple moments, she turns back around and scoffs. “ that’s awful. i’m so, so sorry you had to sit through that alone. i told you that you should’ve come with me to the bathroom ! ” she teases, gently nudging the other’s shoulder. “ that’s like if i went around telling people i got all the guys in the bar. like … ” she groans. “ i hate to say it, but men are pretty awful. maybe it’s time to just … kick ‘em to the curb, ” she jokes, illustrating such as she waves her hand, as if pushing a small, metaphorical man with the tips of her fingers. “ like … we know you don’t do that ? and you still think it’s cute, ” she groans. “ i don’t know, if that’s not a signal to leave, i don’t know what is. let’s just finish a bottle of soju back at my place, or even better, wine. ” she says, poking sophie’s shoulder. “ maybe i can get yena to join us, too. she’ll probably be up, anyway. ” gahyeon offers, waving the bartender over so they could pay before leaving.

✽ First Meeting Confusion ✽

Music is something that Yoona knows will always be part of her life. It’s something she can’t escape, nor does she want to. It will always be her past, her present and her future. Her life revolves around music and it’s what she shines in. It’s her whole being. So when she was asked to attend a music event that was being hosted by Korea University and Seoul National, Yoona jumped at the chance.

The vocalist was in basically every music-related club that her university offered. She was popular amongst the students and was known for her tutoring skills and friendly personality. She loved helping people when she could and often volunteered at events, which is what she was doing today. She had offered to help out at the event and loved it.

She grinned brightly at the attendees and answered questions that were asked of her. Of course, she enjoyed the event as well. Even though she was working, she was still going to have fun. She hummed softly to herself as she walked. She spied a girl around her age who was by herself. Yoona adored her outfit and happily approached her. She was not shy of strangers.

❝ I’m really sorry to bother you but I love your outfit! Where did you get it? ❞

sunday, sept. 22nd – ttukseom han river park for #rkgreenribbon

the more he nears the end, the more it feels like his lungs are going to finally break free and fly away. 

as far as he knew, sophie was going for the 10k, and yuzu and changyoon were doing it together, leaving him to do this alone, and, presumably, embarrass himself alone. 

call it a cop out, but he had chosen the 5km run when signing up through the website. although he’s tempted to try the 10k, he’s fairly sure that 5km was already quite a bit for someone like him, and considering that he had to perform later with the rest of 6tunes, he needed to make sure he wasn’t out of breath when the time came.

besides, he’s not awful at sports, per say; like any other male his age, hyojin had been relatively active in school, playing sports often with his friends. even now, he was pretty far from being out of shape, especially with his resumed gym activity and increased efforts in dancing.

but stamina? that was another story. he had been going at a relatively safe pace when the sound to start had gone off, his racer bib clinging to his chest and his shirt fluttering in the wind as he nears the front of the run in the first few minutes. at the ten minute mark is when he starts slowing down, and then after a few more, his breathing is picking up at an unnatural rate. no big deal, he thinks, i just have to slow down. and that’s what he does -- he lags behind a bit, now hovering in the middle of the crowd instead of at the front -- before he feels the familiar burn in his legs forming.

he’s recovered from the mgas stint, meaning that the aching in his bones had finally, finally resided, but the way it’s coming up makes him push a strangled noise back down his throat. 

fortunately, before it became unbearable, he reaches the end, accepting a medal from one of the staff waiting at the finishing line. it’s a bit laughable, but he manages it nonetheless, his brows knitted as he pauses to catch his breath, leaning on a nearby street lamp. 

well, at least he can say he finished today’s morning run.

saerok had been laying in the dark for a good hour, trying to let sleep find her. but it seemed useless; her mind was too active and the mid-day nap was coming to bite her in the ass. 

she sighs, sitting up and looking at the time on her phone. 12:16am. she unlocks her phone and scrolls through her contacts, wondering if anyone would be awake at this time. she sees her messages with sophie and smiles, “she might be awake.” she mumbles to herself, pressing the conversation.

they had six year difference, but they were on the same course. thats how they met, before hyuna dropped out of uni for a second time in order to compete in a survival show that wasn’t worth its time. it was really upsetting. all that hard work to get into snu and then just dropping out within her first year, pitiful really. she also didn’t expect to ever see sophie again, but the world was a weird place, and they do meet, really randomly in a supermarket not so far from snu.

“oh my god, sophie?“ hyuna asks, already beaming as she almost runs up to the girl. it had been more than five months now, since they last saw each other and the older female was more tnan buzzing to see her. “oh my god, how is uni? how are you? how’s life? its been ages!“ she asks so many questions, in such short amount of time, maybe speed rapping has been a good option to take as a workshop.

AU - Roommates

It all started with a simple ad in the paper, Seulgi had asked for someone to move in with her to help pay rent.  Nothing specific, she hadn’t asked for a girl or guy specifically, just someone who could pay their half of the bills and that she hoped would become a new friend to her as she was still pretty new to the city, having moved there for university and her job at the local cafe/bookstore.

Soon, a girl named Sophie answered the ad, she was moving to Korea from the United Kingdom and needed a place to stay.  Getting in touch with the girl, seemed like they were going to the same school, they were both going for the same major, even.  It seemed to be the perfect fit and Sophie moved right in, Seulgi helping her do so every step of the way.  It was weird, it was like the two had known each other forever.

They became closer and closer over the next few months, they’d go out on errands together, they’d stay in together instead of going out with their other friends, it was all just very comfortable.  Subtle touches, warm snuggles, shy gazes, it all just grew from the ground up, it was obvious there was something between them. 

It all changed one night, while they were curled up on the couch together, watching a sappy love story that somehow they both turned to look at the other at the same time and after a moment of silent apprehension, they shared their first kiss.

From there, their relationship grew, it was nice and sweet and everything that just seemed right with their lives.  It wasn’t perfect though.  Every time they were with other people, Seulgi was always just Sophie’s “friend”.  Even with people that they knew would be accepting of them together, they were just “friends”. 

This was frustrating to Seulgi, the other wouldn’t even so much hold her hand when other people were around, was she ashamed of her or something?  Seulgi was growing more madder as time went on, but she knew it was a sensitive topic, so she kept it to herself, she didn’t want to rush Sophie, she cared too much about her to let this get between them. 

Then one day, they were laying around on the couch, Sophie on the phone with one of her friends, when she was asked what she was up to.  “Oh nothing, just watching TV with the girlfriend.”  Seulgi sat up and looked at Sophie who seemed to have a sort of shocked look on her face.  “Yeah… Seulgi… who else?”  Seulgi gave her a big smile and just hugged her around the waist and let her continue.  It wasn’t a big deal, but it was a big deal to her.

AU Drabble - TW: Allusions to Death

She watched her all the time.  Yes, that simple statement seems shady as hell, but there’s a lot more to it.  It was Haseul’s job to watch Sophie.  Night and day, day and night, she was there.  She didn’t know why she was chosen for this particular detail, but she was.  Something must’ve happened to the last one.  She had heard rumors that it was something inadvisable to those like herself, but she hadn’t been briefed on that at all.  

The other was outgoing and had a bright personality, though this sometimes meant that she would get into more life-threatening situations than she realized.  In fact, it was Haseul’s job to make sure she didn’t realize it. You see, she was Sophie’s guardian spirit and had been for several years.  It was her job to make sure that Sophie kept going on day by day. 

Haseul was good at her job.  She’d whisper in the other’s ear to just chew her food a few more times so she didn’t choke (which was one of the ways Haseul had seen an end timeline).  Haseul had made the car stall out in the intersection that had been meant to strike the one she was meant to protect.  She wasn’t proud of it, but she had even made a mugger choose a different target than to accost her Sophie. 

And therein lied the problem.  The more time she spent watching her, the more and more she thought of her as her Sophie.  It was rule number one of the guardian spirits.  Don’t get that deeply involved.  It was hard not to find the British girl fascinating.  Haseul began to wonder even more what exactly happened to the last spirit that had been assigned to watch over her?

besides the academic incentives in doing a community service, yewon takes pride in a job well done. she’s part of a small team of volunteers tasked with prettying up the grounds around a local elementary school. they’re digging up rows of dirt, planting flower bulbs and pulling weeds. it’s more hands-on than the kind of work she’s used to.

with the part of her arm that isn’t covered by a gardening glove, yewon wipes the sweat from her forehead. “i would say it’s too hot for this type of work today, but the schedule can’t be helped,” she comments, turning to speak to sophie at her side. the other young woman isn’t exactly the most gifted gardener either, so it’s good they have each other to commiserate.

from the corner of her eye, she spots a many-legged insect scurrying out of the hole she just dug. “oh!” yewon exclaims, bending down to take a closer look. “hello, little friend. sorry for invading your home...”

The public trainee is always rushing about trying to get to each schedule as she personally hates tardiness yet during all the running about she accidentally caught her keychain on something causing the little pink octopus to tumble down onto the stone pavement among the feet of many strangers. It didn’t take long for the other to notice that she was missing a keychain since it was attached to her mobile phone. The female eyes widen in a panic since it was a gift from her brother so it was very important to her so she had to find it before someone else does. Minhee randomly taps the shoulder of passer-by requesting if they could help yet they just ignored her so she tried once more when she spots a young female coming her way quickly grabbing her attention. “Excuse me, can you help me?! I lost my keychain..it’s pink octopus...a gift from my big brother so it got mainly sentimental value...I would understand if you are too busy to help..” she pleaded with the young girl with the biggest puppy eyes she possibly musters up hoping she would say yes in this endeavor.

Considering her status as a streamer, Yuzu decided to sit back from joining any tournaments to give people more fairer grounds to win. Instead she decided to help one of her friends win instead!

Your top picks should deffo be Deadshot or Supergirl. Both are pretty OP and Supergirl has a really nice dodge because she can fly and float.”
