sending a starter to @rksoleil

yuto doesn’t like competing. he never has and probably never will. it’s the thought of getting evaluated that terrifies him, the fact that people will look at him with examining eyes and judge his every movement. and it’s a fear rooted in his childhood, back when he had only just begun dancing and his parents insisted on signing him up for competitions, where he naturally placed last due to nerves and inexperience. now he dances purely for his own enjoyment - or so he thinks, but any such sentiment is ruined when his teacher lets him know that he signed him up for a performance. yuto knows he can say no, wants to say no, but feels like it will be nothing but an inconvenience if he does so. and the last thing he wants to be is an inconvenience.
it is not as bad he supposes as if it had been a competition, but he has still avoided dancing in front of people throughout all these years. at least more than necessary. he’s not good at maintaining his expression and, if you were to ask him, doesn’t have any stage presence whatsoever. not that he has the most presence in general but that is another matter entirely.
thus he finds his feet taking him to the streets of hongdae. if there is any place he can find inspiration, surely this must be it. and inspiration he does find in the form of a dance crew surrounded by a crowd making it almost impossible for him to see what is going on. cursing himself for his small stature, yuto finds a staircase not too far away and uses that as his foothold as he tiptoes to get the perfect view over the crowd.
soon the performance is over, and yuto inches closer, tries to steer clear of the crowd as it disperses, waits, fidgets with the hem of his sleeve until one of the members finally seem to be free. “e-excuse me...” he croaks voice low and not used to reaching out. his gaze fixates on the stranger’s kneecaps as he speaks. “i saw you dance just now, and i... figured you might be able to help me...” ugh, this was so embarrassing and could he crawl into a pit and die right now he would.

➟「踊ってみた」i don’t dance。
@rkjinwoo
“Hey kid. Want to earn some quick pocket money?”
Those were the rather suspicious words Youngjae had greeted the dancer with once he finished up his busking. He had walked through Hongdae in the hopes of finding someone who could help him without asking too many questions, and this kid seemed talented enough to do the job. Honestly speaking Youngjae wasn’t made of money, but he had to make sacrifices here in order to get what he wanted and -- at the risk of judging without knowing anything -- he figured a brat would be easier to bribe because they usually didn’t have that much pocket money.
Of course his request had been suspicious as heck, even he knew that much, and he knew very well that he had to elaborate as no sane person would just follow him after that. “Trust me, it’s nothing much,” he explained. “You just have to go over a dance with me and give me feedback.”

* i’m a savage
( @rksbin )
though he was hesitant to admit it because san liked being seen as an all-rounded guy, recently he had been focusing way too much of his energy on his dancing. while he didn’t necessarily think he could spend too much time dancing, he had to be honest — with the emotional stress from his personal life (that was mostly self-inflicted), he had found himself unintentionally distancing from friends and distracting himself with more time in the k-arts dance studio. however, it’d come to his attention quite quickly that he needed some sort of social interaction besides that of through a phone screen.
that’s how he finds himself on soobin’s couch for some much needed socializing, which was nice since it’d been awhile since the two of them had hug out one on one. they talked through tiktok often, but getting to see the younger in person was different, and certainly brought up more opportunity for fun. “soobin-ah,” san starts, though he pauses to shove a handful of crushed up ramen into his mouth from the package sitting between them. “have you done the ‘savage’ dance trend yet? on tiktok?” he questions and looks up from his phone, turning his head to see his friend and making sure to cover his mouth as he speaks. “you’ve seen it, right?”

word count: 437. +3 dance points. backdated to chaewon’s final year at ewha girls high school. rkdanceoff.
it was her first time attending a dance class since arriving in korea the year before, and her first time doing anything like this since her parents’ accident. regardless, chaewon was feeling confident. she’d realized that she’d really, really missed the atmosphere of a dance studio. she supposed she had naeun to thank to an extent, not that she’d ever admit it -- the sudden surge of reinterest in her old hobbies only happened because naeun convinced her to join the choir club that year.
for her first dance class in almost two years, chaewon was pretty pleased with herself. maybe, yeah, she’d purposely signed up to a class below her level, but in her defense, she was out of practice. what if she hadn’t bounced back? she would’ve just ended up making a fool of herself. the choreography was for some song that was charting at the time. the hook of it sometimes gets stuck in her head to this day, but she can’t remember the lyrics or the name for the life of her, just the beats she had to hit. at the end of the session, there was a dance off, and chaewon was more than happy to go up against the girl she was paired with. where chaewon was a more advanced dancer holding herself back, this girl was a true beginner. it felt a little unfair, but hey, it was all for fun, right?
and at the time, chaewon loved an easy win. she hadn’t quite rebuilt her pride to the point that she wouldn’t take advantage of any little ego boost she could. she looks back at it and cringes, even if it was a turning point in her return to dance.
“you ready?” she asked, biting back a giggle. there was a mean flash in her eyes, reflected in the other girl’s nervous stare as she nodded her acknowledgment. the instructor counted them in and the music started, generic dance pop booming from the speakers as they danced the first steps. she wasn’t bothered about the girl she was competing against, and just danced. she’d seen her dance all throughout the class, and she hadn’t been very good. she knew she had it in the bag.
it wasn’t a serious dance off, not by a long shot. the winner was decided by clapping from the other attendees, as if they could actually measure the amount of claps either side got. chaewon was pronounced the winner. she laughed, and covered her face with her hands as she mock-bashfully bowed her thanks to her fellow students. she’d really, really fucking missed this.

&. so baby
@rktaeyang
as much as hyojin desperately tries not to, he has a sinking feeling that he’s going to be the one dragging down the performance. it’s already enough that he’s come spiraling down from being at the top once the judges announce that daniel and him placed at the top, only to be paired with two strong dancers, but the fact that they already had to simplify the choreography significantly makes him undoubtedly guilty.
even so, he swallows his insecurities and doesn’t even think of breaking down, because that time he spends wallowing in his fears and uncertainties is time he could be spending practicing and practicing and practicing over and over again. he’s grateful that the both of them are patient with him, and that taeyang seemed comfortable enough adding in all the frills and details to the new and improved dance, but being grateful isn’t enough. he has to pay it back with his hard work, through sweat and determination.
“taeyang-ssi, are you busy right now?” he asks it sheepishly, rubbing at the back of his neck, but he really doesn’t know what else he can do. “i was wondering if you could look over what i have down so far.”

Just Dance!
@ericxrk
Trying to practice dancing with Youngjae was a lost cause. While Moonbok was not the disaster he’d been this time last year and Youngjae had improved since he’d joined Sphere, the fact was that attempting to practice together usually degenerated into squabbling and sulky silences before too long.
Which was why Moonbok had decided to shelve his pride and turn to the internet for help. And no sooner had he make the post on twitter (disguised as more of a hypothetical situation) than Eric Sohn was spamming his inbox, eager to show off. And cheeky to boot, instead challenging Moonbok to a dance-off instead of having a mere practice session.
He didn’t want to hurt the poor kid’s feelings by turning him down. That’s what Moonbok had told himself, at least. It certainly wasn’t anything to do with being worried he’d have his ass handed to him by someone who was was younger than Moonbok’s own sister.
Having arrived at the pre-agreed location a few days later, Moonbok waved at the younger boy, smiling despite the nervousness writhing in his stomach. They’d been in the MGAs together and taken dances classes together. Moonbok was subscribed to him on YouTube, he knew full well what Eric’s abilities were.
“Eric-ah, it’s been a while, how have you been?” Moonbok asked warmly, genuinely happy to see his younger friend.

❛ we're falling apart to halftime
dance off event with @rkhyeon
haru saw the crowd, the sound of music and assumed it was some kind of street performance. those were incredibly common in hongdae, but as he got closer, he saw that it didn’t seem to be some kind of performance. so, the fifteen year old paused, moving closer to the front to try and work out what was going on, brows furrowed as he stared at the promotional banner, trying to mouth each word he saw to work out what it said. but he eventually gave up with an annoyed huff, instead turning his attention back to the front as the people running this thing seemed to be looking for volunteers from the crowd.
before haru even knew what was really happening, one of them were coming towards him, saying something as they tried to pull him towards the centre.
“ah... no no,” he tried, desperation in his voice, but it was a little too late, he was dragged in front of the crowd with some other boy. he still had no idea what was going on, face red with embarrassment, heart hammering in his chest as he realised everyone was looking at him. and then the music started playing, but he didn’t know what to do, desperately turning to the other boy who had been picked out to try and work out what was happening.
what was happening?

╰☆╮ Playful Rivalry ╰☆╮
Seokjin never expected to be here. He had never in a million years thought he would be a participant in a dance-off.
Until now.
He can’t remember how it all started. A tiny rivalry between two social media personalities. A joke that had somehow brought them here. He had a lot of respect for the male in front of him. They were friends, but somehow the fans preferred them when they were competing. He had no idea why.
Their pretend rivalry had led them to meet at a small studio they had borrowed for their ‘event’. A few people gathered in the room to watch them, cameras positioned around the small room. The two males stood facing each other in the centre of the room. Jin looked at his friend with a smirk upon his face. Right now, they weren’t friends, they were competitors.
Jin leaned against the wall, legs crossed and arms folded over his chest as he watched his friend dance. He let himself chuckle at the facial expressions and moves of the other. He shook his head as he watched his rival dance. He wasn’t sure if the other was dancing for real or for laughs. Either way, he seemed to know how to entertain.
It was finally his turn and Seokjin felt all eyes on him as he walked to the centre of the room. He opted to dance for real and let the music lead his moves. His arms and legs followed the beat and his hips tried to but he wasn’t sure if they were. He suddenly felt embarrassed and regretted agreeing to this dance-off. Once he finished, the two shook hands and thanked everyone before the two males went for lunch.
The things Kim Seokjin did for his followers.

Dancing Wild
Minhyuk knew that his dancing skills weren't very good but he did try and he was 100% a fan of certain girl groups so of course in clubs, he could totally outdance the very best. He had headed to a club after practice one day, deciding that he needed to relax and chill out. the dj was playing chichi songs when he walked in and obviously minhyuk headed on the dnace floor, pulling out his best chichi moves.
a girl was doinv similar moves close by and when she had noticed him, she looked angry that someone could do better. he pulled that leg move from genie when the genie chorus hit. the girl seemed outraged and she tried to do him one better. the dj noticed this minibattle and started playing a medley of Chichi songs and minhyuk, loving his girls, tried to outdo the girl but if course he had to concede some of the songs to her since he could tell that he couldn't pull off mr taxi but in return he could definitely conquer love and girls.
chichi was his group and he wasn’t gonna let some girl outshine him.

I hope this is enjoyable~ Thank you for watching, and please take care!
Instagram: https://instagram.com/k_shoot Twitter: https://twitter.com/k_shoot
Sporting a comfortable set of gym wear Sohee praise the spring season, the warm weather a perfect end of the month of April. The crop top reveal toned abs yet allow for the chilly breeze to brush over her skin, leaving goosebumps as a result. It isn’t cold outside but ultimately, that wind cool her down nonetheless as she prepare a camera to record.
Sohee doesn’t have much confidence in her dancing skills. Now, she isn’t awful, but she’s far way from where she want to be, from where she need to be. That is why she decided to make this particular recording without a friendly audience, so that she can make so mistakes without someone watching behind the scenes. She want this to be perfect.
Not that it will anyway, because it’s meant to be a kkap version, she is supposed to look dorky and extra during the entire video. Yet, she found a quiet and abandoned corner of her beloved neighbourhood. The quiet part isn’t too necessary since she will put an audio file over the tape anyway but it’s nice nonetheless, that way she can concentrate well.
She play the audio file that start with DBSK.
The first ten seconds she’s supposed to have a chair but instead she walk in a crouched kind of manner, her hands swing swiftly through their position in an expressive way. She isn’t given any time to adjust before the next song come up and it’s one of her favourites, ‘O’. Her moves shift from being soft to very sharp, most of the dance still done by the arms.
One more, two more, three more songs play from DBSK, including Rising sun. Only five to ten seconds are played of each song before the next start playing, which makes this somewhat of intense cardio session. Her stamina is high though, from running once or twice a day, so she’s planning to deliver the cover with a steady rate of energy. Next up is--
Super Junior!
The first song up is ‘Miracle’, then “Mamacita”, then “Sorry Sorry”. The latter of these have an iconic dance that probably everyone know to heart, Sohee executing it better than she would have expected to. She’s having so much fun moving to the beat, making sure that she doesn’t slip up as she has little to no time preparing for the next song.
It’s tiresome, but it’s so much fun. Sohee is smiling throughout the entire dance cover. There’s only one song left before switching over to a girl group, one of the most famous ones. CHICHI start off strong with a charismatic pose, arms crossing over the chest with a couple of nods of her hear. “Yeah, yeah,” she voice along as she follow the choreo.
‘Gee’ is another insanely famous song and Sohee know this too by heart, even more than all those other songs she’s been through already and the ones coming up. It feel as though it’s a strong insult should one not know the highlights of this particular song. If honest however, one of Sohee’s absolute favourite songs is ‘Hoot’ and that is a song away.
As she dance she make a mental note to make a vocal cover of ‘Hoot’, and had she had time to think any further she would ask herself why she hasn’t made one already. She has no time for that though, and the songs keep switching every five to ten seconds still. There is a lot of history to press into a humble four minutes, but it’s doable. Barely.
She hasn’t even come halfway through. One part of her regret doing this because it feels as if she’s been dancing forever but the other part of her love it, she love all of the groups that she is going through, although some of the songs aren’t her favourites. There are many that isn’t included like Son Dambi, Jung Nara, Kangta... but still, many are.

-.✦・。゚rkopenevent: rkdanceoff saay - zgzg @- 1million dance studio.✦。゚
If there is one place that Ryujin feels at home it’s within the four walls of the dance studio that she has attended for so long as she can remember. Almost ten years has passed already, it’s been that long ago since she took her first step into 1MILLION for the very first time in her life. Back then she found it terrifying although alluring, there were so many people that were much better than her, and much older than her. Ryujin was only nine years old back then, but now it definitely is different. Eighteen years old and confident as ever, she is ready to film for the new choreography that will air on YouTube that is indluding the very SAAY.
Ryujin is beyond stoked, and honoured. Although she isn’t part of the main group that actually will be dancing with SAAY she will at least be in the same room, dancing the same choreo. An opportunity she likely won’t get again anytime soon, so she jumped at it the second she heard that they asked for people to perform for the video. The song is a bop too in Ryujin’s opinion if anything. When it released early June she knew right off the bat that she wanted to dance to it somehow, and though she has been playing around with the song for herself she was glad as Mina Myoung announced it for her next choreography. It was just perfect.
Preparing herself for her turn she do a bit of her own thing in the background, but not so much that the attention can be traced back to her. Ryujin will get her screen time soon enough, it’s a matter of seconds before she and the two other girls step into the center and get in their zone. The music start a little into the intro, just before the first verse begin and when it does Ryujin’s right at it with clean moves. She is one of the two in the back but that does not stop her from a strong performance, the dancer of fifteen years is oozing with charisma and confidence. She’s loving the dance and she’s loving the song, Ryujin want to make SAAY proud.
Though the idol surely won’t care about Ryujin that is of no concern, she’s just happy that she had the opportunity to be in the presence of the idol. They are almost synchronical when they dance together, each wanting to be better than the other. When the song come to an end she could wish that the choreography lasted for longer than one and a half minute. It’s longer than most of the usual pieces but still, if she had it her way then she would keep danging.

✧ Car Ride Battles ✧
Road trips are always fun. No matter how long the trip was, Yoona always found ways to make the trip fun and exciting. She loved driving, even more so when there were people in the car with her.
Yoona was meeting up with her friends from school. It was a monthly trip the group did to ensure they remained close and didn’t lose contact. The group of four were very close and have been through a lot together. They were like Yoona’s sisters and they knew the most about her. They were all childhood friends and Yoona knew she’d be lost without them.
The girls were currently pulling into a restaurant to eat, Yoona driving. Music was blasting loudly, even after the car was parked. The group never got out straight away and always hung around to listen and sing to the music. Minhee, who was seated behind the passenger seat, suddenly challenged everyone to a dance-off. The others agreed and Minhee started, followed by Kyomin, then Dayee.
Finally, it was Yoona’s turn and she went all out. She waved her arms around and moved her head and upper body back and forth. Her hands moved in circles, her arms left to right. She even moved her legs a little despite the lack of room. Her head was bopping along to the music and moved up and down. Her upper body moved in circles and bounced around. There’s only so much one can do while sitting down.
She hummed along to the lyrics as she danced crazily. To onlookers, the group would appear crazy, but they didn’t care. This was a normal thing for the girls and they loved it. Once the song (and Yoona’s dance) had finished, the car was turned off and the girls exited the vehicle.
Yoona was still laughing as she smoothed down her outfit. She grabbed her bag, locked the car, and followed the girls inside.

Lee Sungjae’s Dance off Quote - “Don’t do things that stupid people ask you to do, and then you might win”
"Listen father this is the stupidest idea you have ever gotten and it will never happen"
That were Minseok's last words before father made them do it.
Minseok and Sungjae aren't very close, not at all. Minseok dislikes Sungjae, and Sungjae just doens't care much about the other. Usually they got along, they didn't fight, and so both of them lived peacefully with each other. However in father's eyes that wasn't enough, not at all. Now that Sungjae was so bad at making friends then the least he could do was getting a good relationship with his brother, in both Minseok and Sungjae's eyes that was quite unnecessary, after all, they weren't even brothers, they just lived together. Father was however determined on making the two better friends than anyone else. To Minseok and Sungjae father was very much known for getting the worst and stupidest ideas. His ideas most often would include either Sungjae or Minseok and sometimes both of them, Minseok and Sungjae therefore hated them with their whole heart.
This time the guy had gotten another stupid idea, and the reason why? Sungjae and Minseok had disagreed on who should get the last strawberry, they hadn't even fought nor quarreled about it, they had just disagreed. However when father noticed this, he got the perfect idea for how the two could find out who should get it. What other way was there than having a dance-off? At first Minseok had laughed at the idea, but soon enough he realized that father was serious, and oh was he close to committing his first murder. Immediately both Minseok and Sungjae had both said that father could just have the last strawberry, that that was a better idea. But father insisted, he said the only thing they could do was have a dance-off. If they wouldn't follow what he said, then Sungjae and Minseok could be sent out to pick up trash for the rest of their lives. Wonderful, once again father had forced them into doing something they didn't want.
It wasn't much of a surprise to Minseok nor Sungjae when a girl-group song played, father always played girl-group songs and both Sungjae and Minseok speculated that father had an obsession with girl-groups (even if father insisted that he did not). Sungjae was the first to go, he looked quite unmotivated, but still danced, father cheered on him even if Sungjae barely even moved. Minseok for once had decided he would do as father said and he would give his all. Minseok started dancing wildly as it was his turn, few seconds later he fell over on himself and laid on the ground groaning. By default Sungjae won and he ate the last strawberry.

&& he who dances with the cat | lgw solo
the warm weather lured him outside. he had finished all homeworks for university and now kikwang felt like taking a break for himself. it was summer after all. there was nothing in particular that he needed to buy but he still decided to go window-shopping by himself. people were filling the streets and with a bright smile on his lips kikwang looked around, enjoyed the warmth, the sunrays on his skin and the light, refreshing breeze that played with his hair. the city was bribing with liveliness, people around him laughed with each other, talked and enjoyed their free time.
on his way to a specific shop, he passed by a store that sold make-up and other beauty products. someone dressed in a white cat wearing a pink apron costume stood in front of the store, much to kikwang's surprise. he looked at the mascot for a moment, blinked, before he was about to just walk past. music from the store was suddenly played and the male halted once again, knowing the song. he turned back to the dressed up stranger who had took on a starting pose. the cat started off perfectly, shoke people around with their on point dance moves.
a grin appeared on his lips, when he saw the mascot dancing, and without much thought, he joined in, jumped into the right position and reproduced the moves of the performance. kikwang flipped around, pushed his hips forward and looked over his stretched out hand as he shot passerbys who had stopped in their walk to watch a fatal smirk. the two of them were completely in sync and still kikwang felt the competitive nature the mascot person bore. it was amazing how meticulous they carried out the steps. but just because the cat looked cute and cool at the same time, he wouldn't loose this random dance off.
when the song ended, his breathing had become a little harder and with a smile he bowed at the audience that had developed around the two dancers. then he turned to the cat and laughed shyly: "sorry, i interrupted your dance." the mascot shoke its head and lifted the hands soothingly, as if it was telling him that everything was alright. with a handshake and some waving they finally parted ways. and left a smile on kikwang's face for the rest of the day.

he’s not exactly sure how he’d gotten dragged into this mess.
the dance workshop has just ended, and most of the people have already filed out of the studio, gone home for the night. as on most nights, jooyoung has stayed behind, chatting it up with some of the regulars, bag still unpacked in favor of conversation. usually, he doesn’t regret making this choice---after all, forming a network with other dancers can only help him in the end---but for the first time in his life, he’s regretting his life choices.
he’s always admired ballrooms dancers. they have to carry themselves with such poise and finesse, had to be mindful of years of technique and intense partnering, and had to keep in top shape in order to perform the tricks and lifts that wowed judges and audiences alike. it’s an honorable style of dance, but one jooyoung has never taken an interest in, simply because he thinks it would be too difficult for him to learn, especailly now, at his age, with a bum knee that would prevent him from doing a lot of the things required to perform an eye-catching piece of choreography.
but for one reason nor another, he’s been roped into a “latin ballroom dance competition”---and he uses those terms extremely lightly---shoulders squared and in a position that’s uncomfortable for him, feeling too prim and proper for his usual style of dance.
“you sure you want me as your partner? you know i’ve never taken a ballroom lesson in my life, right?” he asks, eyeing his dance partner with uncertainty. she responds with a mischeivous grin that’s far too telling of how this will all go down.
“of course i’m sure! just follow my lead.”
he can’t say anything to her confidence, and before long, he’s being swept up in the music and the counts, trying his best to follow along, but catching himself in the mirrors to see that he’s failing miserably. but it’s hard not to laugh at himself when he does, looking at his own reflection as he struggles to keep up, hardly a match for the other dancing partnership in the room.
the “competition” comes to an end when he’s begun laughing so hard that he can no longer keep track of the count and his feet entangle themselves with his partner’s, sending the both of them to the floor in a crumpled heap. raucous sound still pealing from his lips, he rolls away from the crash site, allowing himself to splay himself out on the ground, arms and legs outstretched as he tries to catch his breath.
“we definitely won,” he says, a grin on his face. “wanna go for a rematch?”

❔ solo. _ 춤기본기.
( lesson one ) ( lesson two ) ( lesson three )
everyone had to start somewhere and this was his beginning. a future lawyer had no need for dance lessons. a valedictorian had no time for self-teaching. only the boy with the small apartment could find time to lose himself in the crowds to thudding bass and gain an affinity for rhythm. but that would be his weakness.
an idol.
rounded individuals kept in impeccable shape and held to near impossible standards. he’d chose this and he’d live it if it killed him but ground zero was his starting point. so late in life. late for an idol. self teaching... where would he begin? to learn choreography on his own? to create? to emulate? no.
this was like riding a bike.
he’d begin at the starting line. club dancing forgone for the studio twice a week in the mid-afternoon one-on-one. he had to first learn how to pedal the wheels before he was allowed in the seat and while redundant he was a perfectionist. he was not unfit from his love of bmx and his tone gave him partiality towards cardio and power but he had to learn properly. studying on his own. weekly reviews. customized lessons. he accepted the task before him as a new challenge to overcome.
the progress moved only so fast as his body allowed him to do so but athleticism translated well and, though simple, soon he began to learn short bouts of choreography from his teacher. nothing fancy and mistakes were made. but his determination didn’t waver. if he wanted to become an idol, this was just something he had to do and if there was anything he was great at, it was studying and applying himself.
and so he did.
