Day 4 on the Colorado River trip. Sept 9. 2022. Been lagging on posting my trip but finally got a little break from field work to continue! Day 4 was the introduction to the Grand Canyon. We made it to the heart of the Grand Canyon not only marked by the incredible basement rock of the Vishnu Schist, a mostly black jagged and heavily fractured schist intruded all around by the pink veins of granitic rock, but by the miles of back to back white water rapids. As the canyon narrowed due to the slower rates of erosion, the rapids grew longer and more turbulent the further we traveled on the river. We ended up stopping for a hike that lead to a beautiful waterfall in which we all played under. Monsoon season really brings the most violent flash floods which was evident by the debris found along the river but also by these waterfalls up by these canyon hikes. "It's been overcast for the most part, threatening rain. But the clouds held fast and the weather was hot. Camp was wide open today and I slept on the beach overlooking the river. Landscape of Dihing

Dihing is a magical place , in spite of the monsoon havoc it creates everywhere. The beautiful Chang Ghar built and marketed by Help Tourism was our favourite destination everywhere on our way to Mishmi Hill. A one night halt here on our way to Arunachal Pradesh was always memorable with awesome food and cultural event performed by the local villagers. A massive flood took away the entire camp . We are just left with the lovely memories of our stay.

OK so:

Tigerstar tells Stonefur to kill the kits. Leopardstar jumps up and tells him she agreed to put them in detention but she is not going to let him order her deputy to kill Riverclan apprentices. She says it in such a way everyone, even Blackclaw, who was a vocal supporter of Tigerstar, starts to wonder if Tigerclan is for their interest or just a disguised way for Tigerstar to kill Riverclan cats one after the other. Mosspelt (who nursed Feather and Storm) attacks Blackfoot, Reedpaw attacks Darkstripe, Emberdawn (never mentionned except in Leopardstar's Honor which I didn't read but kinda like the name so using her every now and then) attacks Russetfur... Riverclan just starts an upraising.

Tigerclan is disbanded. Tigerstar tries to attack Leopardstar to punish her from walking back on their agreement. Let's say he takes one of her lives in the process. Mistyfoot fights him back with the help of Stonefur and the apprentices... I mean I'm not going to give the details of every fight, but basically Riverclan jumps out of Tigerclan and returns home, with for only casualties Leopardstar's first life, which she will, later, call "fittingly lost in repair of my own foolishness" or something like that.

Since RavenGrayFire was there, they helped fighting, which helped Riverclan not having much casualties. They go back to Rivercamp with them, Leopardstar tells them it's not safe for the halfclans to stay because Tigerstar will probably come back to take revenge. Stonefur and Mistyfoot refuse to leave but force Featherpaw and Stormpaw to get back with their father until further notice.

Alas, Tawnypaw leaves all the same, because they don’t come back particularly sooner.

The apprentices are welcomed in the clan but Mudclaw arrives and says Windclan is under attack.

Tigerclan is only Shadowclan. Way less warriors. Windclan can hold a little longer and Thunderclan arrives in time to save Gorsepaw (I’ve got no proof of that, OK. Maybe Gorsepaw was dead before Mudclaw ever arrived in Thunderclan and even the delay in the attack wouldn’t allow his survival. Shut up. Let me dream). He is even more in awe in front of Firestar than before.

Firestar tells Tallstar that Leopardstar has left Tigerclan, Tallstar says he did notice there was no Riverclan cat in the attack so that’s why hmm interesting... The three leaders meet a bit before the rendezvous with Tigerstar at Fourtrees and agree that, shall the need arise, they would form their own superclan in order to fight Tigerstar and Shadowclan.

Scourge arrives. Properly disembowel Tigerstar. Ultimatum.

Firestar convinces Blackfoot to join Lionclan by telling him he didn’t do anything unforgivable yet (no Gorsepaw and no Stonefur killed) and Stonefur accompagnies him to assure Blackfoot, in the name of Riverclan, that if he were to ally with them no one would object to him becoming the new leader of Shadowclan. However, if they don’t ally, whether Lionclan drives Scourge out or not, he will never be Shadowclan’s leader.

Four become two yadda yadda, battle against Scourge. Stonefur is alive, it means one more fighter. I like to think it means Whitestorm doesn’t die. So right now, Whitestorm is alive.

The halfclans go back to Riverclan. Tigerstar goes down in History as a poor guy who tried to take over the forest but didn’t manage to kill anyone and was promptly abandonned by anyone who ever agreed to ally with him. No big aura of scariness nor power. He’s kinda pathetic. Sorry not sorry.

Gorsepaw is made a warrior under the name Gorsefire (because it’s cooler than Gorseheart I think, and it keeps the general consensus that he would have been named after Fireheart).

Skyclan Firestar’s Quest yadda yadda.

Midnight. Brambleclaw, followed by Squirrelpaw, is send for Thunderclan. Tawnypelt for Shadowclan, Feathertail (followed by Stormfur) for Riverclan... and Gorsefire for Windclan.

Now, my reason to change Crowpaw for Gorsefire is simple. There is no in-universe explanation, but I can’t imagine the Erins having the opportunity of putting Gorsefire into a more important role if he had survived, so let’s!

However, Gorsefire is different than Crowpaw because he’s an adult. Not an apprentice.

So we’ve got the whole trip like before. However, Gorsefire doesn’t have a weird crush for Feathertail, or if he does, he’s an adult, and a war veteran and all, and in that case Feathertail might reciprocate. At any rate, when she dies, there are no unresolved feelings, she either let him down properly or didn’t at all, or he never made a move.

Graystripe is catnapped but Whitestorm is the deputy, not anyone else, so no temporary deputy problem.

Great journey. Gorsefire doesn’t change his name after Feathertail since he already had his name. That might prompt Squirrelpaw to ask for hers to be changed tho, because she didn’t have a crush for Feathertail like Crowfeather had, but she did consider themselves as close friends after the trip. So let’s call her Squirreltail (’cause it sounds better than Squirrelfeather).

Anyway, the Windclan succession war happens, Gorsefire saves Leafpool’s life, and she might develop a one-sided crush but he doesn’t. Again, he might have had a flash-back of Feathertail’s death, but that didn’t make him falsely fall in love with Leafpool by association. Gorsefire becomes Onestar’s deputy.

Squirreltail and Brambleclaw get together, to Ashfur’s despair. When Brambleclaw is visited in his dreams by Tigerstar, he isn’t even disgusted, he’s more like... pitiful because poor TIgerstar, who didn’t amount to anything and lost all nine lives at once, is trying to teach him something? Hawkfrost has basically the same reaction. Yeah sure the guy was a leader but he was also a fool and was a wannabee war criminal but not a real one. Not much to look up to.

Whitestorm retires at the same time as Mousefur because he’s starting to get old and now that the clan is settled, he doesn’t see any reason to keep going. Brackenfur becomes deputy.

Firestar doesn’t lose a life in a foxtrap.

The Sight. Squirreltail and Brambleclaw had three kits for plot purposes, Nightkit, Lionkit and Jaykit. Nightpaw is so glad that her mentor is the deputy.

Power of the Three happens but again, there’s not much danger coming from the dark forest. Ashfur tries to kill the kits but there’s no big secret about them and Lionblaze and Squirreltail just kill him on the spot then have to pretend he died in the fire. To add drama, let’s say Hollyleaf can’t take it, reveals to everyone at a clan gathering (not a full moon because no one cares about Ashfur’s death outside of Thunderclan in that condition) what happens and just runs away. Lionblaze and Squirreltail are put on probation because they killed a clanmate, but people agree that none of them would have killed him just like that and so they must be saying the truth about him threatening them.

Stonefur retires. Leopardstar choses Hawkfrost, who in the mean time trained an apprentice, to be her new deputy. The little guy is not as evil as before, remember.

Anyway in the Fourth Apprentice, by virtue of Leopardstar having lost a life to Tigerstar in the Bonehill Fight, Hawkfrost has become Hawkstar and his deputy is Rippletail because why not. Mistystar has retired too.

The dark forest is barely anything. The three still have powers, because there are threats that couldn’t be saved without them (the beavers’ dam, starclan divided etc) but it’s not the same. No big battle. Brackenfur retires and is replaced by Lionblaze.

Gorsefire becomes leader after Onestar. Firestar loses his last lives due to old age and the flood. Lionblaze becomes Lionstar.
