First things first 

!!!! Riptide 115 spoilers !!!!!

And if im wrong about anything i am sorry :( also this might be nothing but i need to say this somewhere

Chip and his lack of control over his own fate is so interesting to me. The guy who tells gillion tidestrider “I didn’t believe in destiny before i met you” is somehow, out of the three of them, the one who is seemingly following a predetermined path set out for him. 

Gillion, whilst being the chosen one, struggles with this identity and was exiled, which may be in his destiny but was clearly not intended by the elders. 

Jay has her prophecy (type thing I know its not exactly a prophecy) but it has no clear path for her specifically to follow.

Chip, however, was destined to end up back at the hole in the sea, but barely remembers actually being there in the first place, and yet when he does return to the black sea, there is a message from Rose from a decade prior knowing not only that he would return, but that he would be there looking for them after their disappearance. (i dont have the brainpower to go into how insane that message makes me so just know i think about it at least once a day). Even chips search for arlin, which was originally his own, was used against him and taken advantage of by Niklaus (with whatever the fuck he is planning im not smart enough to figure that out im just insane) making what was originally a goal into an “incessant urge to not only find the other members but also do what you [chip] were told and return to the hole in the sea”.

Not only that, there is also the compass, which is further twisting and intensifying chips desire to find arlin and return to the hole in the sea (niklaus also told chip to stop using the compass but yknow) so not even his desires, his main motivations that have led him to where he is now, arent truly his own. ( interestingly despite rose knowing he would go back to the black sea, still urges him to leave behind the legacy of the black rose pirates and do something greater) 

Even his death he had no part in, no crucial mistake, nothing he could have done differently to avoid it, he was simply chosen and made an example of for the sake of making a point of how fucked they were against captain widow, yet again a pawn in something he had no control over.

And then, when they do finally reach the hole in the sea, chip is led by the compass (THE FUCKIGN COMPASSSSS) and (im getting into insane territory here) has strange parallels to captain rose. He is separated from his crew (namely the only other black rose pirate, drey), made a deal with niklaus regarding the hole in the sea has the hole in his chest (idc if its not there in canon its there to me) however what is he met with? “Welcome home”. Now what does that mean? I dont fuckign know but it makes me very insane and this is long enough already so i hope you enjoyed my incoherent chip just roll with it ramble :D

The scene that made me laugh is when Tsunami learns how to speak Aquatic and the very first thing she learns how to do is basically swear. Headcannon that squidface is the SeaWing swear that functionally means dickhead. Which I think fits Whirlpool well. I tried to make him as oily as possible. His ears normally droop under the weight of all the hoops. But he's so surprised that they're sticking up quite a bit. He also has some big ears for a SeaWing. All the better to put more hoops in. I may do a bit of a redesign at some point and give him gages because that would be sweet.

Have you done shiny versions of your characters?

Cold Strike and Riptide are already Shiny but I do some regular variants of them. I wasn't going to make Mach a shiny originally since he's albino but I thought it would be fun so I did it anyway lol

I haven't really thought of shinies for anyone else. There will be characters introduced in the future that will be shiny though!

really wanting to try my hand at animating a small snippet but i can't think of a specific scene i want to do. jrwi riptide enjoyers, got any suggestions?

uh spoilers ahead for current arc

thinking abt edyn tidestrider! do you think, if she ever gets a chance to step away from the navy, that she’s trying to find gillion again? do you think she’s living unaware that her brother is in the black sea and may never return to her? or do you think she has this feeling in her gut that says something isn’t right with gillion but she can’t do anything about it? or perhaps maybe she found out in some way, from passersby’s, and has to sit there and mourn the loss of her brother? because she doesn’t know what’s been going on, and she won’t know for who knows how long. we as listeners get the experience of finding out every two weeks but edyn, edyn could know that her brother is in the black sea and that’s all she has for his whereabouts. perhaps if she was a bit more impulsive do you think she would try to visit the black sea without question to find him? do you think she would die not long after and feel awful that gillion may never know? i mean of course she’d leave him a note, a possible final goodbye, but based off his response to the last letter would he even think to read this one? to go back and look for her? or would he feel in his heart that he’ll see edyn again when the time is right? unaware that time would never come again. do you think edyn in all her secrecy with the navy, could know, and the navy informs of her of just how bad it is, filling her with dread? she’d continue to work with a growing feeling of emptiness consuming her. feeling less human/triton and more like a husk that walks around.

do you ever wonder how she must’ve felt to come back to work and see that broken conch shell on the floor? knowing that she has no way to directly contact her brother all over again? and to pair it with the current arc, she couldn’t even try and reach out to him or his friends, not that she’d know chip and jay have conches.

(we’re ignoring the logistics that it was probably thrown out soon after but who cares)

do you think it’s possible niklaus sees her in this state of ever growing dread and helps her? do you think he would cut her a deal that would allow her to scry or look down onto them from within the black sea? what if she’s known and that’s one of the reasons niklaus has been there? for if he is there edyn would be able to peak in and see her brother and his friends. or perhaps she gave him something of gillions, like pieces of a broken conch, and asked for something to check in on him whenever she could? do you think edyn could have seen gillion fake his death then? do you think she doesn’t even consider to check on him again because she watched him die? or is it just as plausible that she refuses to believe it happened and checks on him again, feeling relief to see him alive.

Personal headcannon that JRWI riptide Tritons are typically quite small (between 4 to 5 feet tall) and that Gillion at 5"9 is actually very tall for a Triton.
