Issey Miyake (April 22, 1938 - August 5, 2022)
Issey Miyake’s clothes veered from the wildly inventive, as evidenced by the minuscule knife-edge pleats that characterized many of his garments, to the starkly classic, as embodied by the black turtleneck that would for decades serve as the trademark attire of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs.
An early proponent of the concept of fashion design as both a form of art and a kind of architecture, he counted among his influences Isamu Noguchi, Constantin Brancusi, and Alberto Giacometti.

Good morning 🌞 How are you today? #haveagoodday I missed yesterday #goodmorningpost, so here’s something I wish I’ve posted then. On the other hand it’s never too late. #IsseyMiyake #tribute #ripisseymiyake There’s difficult to say one thing and leave all the other his discoveries aside. If I should choose I won’t talk about pleats, because his work with materials was about more than just a technology. It was about shape, fashion scenography that could be taken from runaway and used in everyday life. So it could potentially shape the future looks of the people. So it did. Not the masses though, or probably it’s too early to say, but the generations of fashion designers. If we look at his models from the 70-90s, we’ll be surprised how contemporary they look. And the next thought will be how little the last generation of designers achieved, how little they experimented with unknown and how banal, messy the results are. Myake was about easy playful fashion, positivity, life in full blossom of colours and shapes. #fashionnotes #artoffashion #fashionasinspiration #morninginspiration https://www.instagram.com/p/ChHGJgHgCvZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#canitellyou for pleats sake. I’ll never forget when I first saw Issey Miyake’s clothing in Tokyo back in the late 80s. It was my first time there and seeing his designs along with his contemporaries; Rei and Yohji, was a real eye opener. A kind of originality I’d never seen at the time. His shows were always so energetic and euphoric. The @pleatspleaseisseymiyake introduced his clothing to a wider audience that spanned gender and generations. Rest in pleats Issey Miyake @isseymiyakeofficial . Arigato gozaimasu.
