Long Beach's finest musician, producer, collaborator and friend passed away yesterday and there is a heavy cloud of sadness hanging over the entire city's music community. It was a honor to have interviewed him, danced with him, talked to him and known his presence over the years. He understood the city's music scene more than anyone else (mainly because he got out of it by playing with big dogs like Mars Volta and Jack White) and our conversations about this unique place helped pave the way for my thesis, of which he is a central part. Gone but never forgotten. <3

Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Ikey Owens. The few times I was around the man, he was always kind and so damn cool. Always running into him and @m4mikey (my heart is with you, my friend) at Que Sera in Long Beach. An incredible talent.
