I knew Lockwood and Co would get cancelled, I knew Shadow and Bone would get cancelled. I know that Percy Jackson and the live action of Avatar the Last Airbender will probably get renewed but in order to do so they’ll need a MASSIVE viewership and even if they do; there’s still a very real probability that they could get cancelled anyway.

This is fucked up. It’s soul breaking, heart wrenching, and any other terrible-meaning-word you can think of. But today I want to shed light on the fact that even knowing this, we still show up. We still play through this horrible scenario we know all to well and can usually predict its ending out of love for the stories that we’ve cherished since the moment we learned of them.

And for me that’s something that while awful, it also shows a precious thing that no capitalistic-satan-driven-company can take away. We still show up for the stories that we love, we still support the crews and casts that bring to life the characters that we sometimes have more present in our lives than actual real-life people. And I believe we’ll continue to do so because folks; stories go beyond the shitty industry world that only cares about how many bucks they can rip off of what they only see as a product.

We make them our own, and we treasure them, and we value them. We give them meaning, we give them new interpretations, we make them do stuff that they would probably never do “in canon” but hey, this is our comfort character and we’ll make them suffer however we want.

This is a sad day, we’re currently living a terrible time to be a creator, and it’s nearly impossible to stay true to the nature of art itself; wether it’s medium is movies, series, literature, paintings or whatever a human decides to express themselves with. But I do believe that if we’ve kept our passion and love for these stories, characters, movies, series, works of art, etc going up ‘til now; there’s no doubt that we���ll continue to do so. There IS light at the end of the tunnel no matter how hard companies like Netflix try to sell that this is as good as it gets and this is the new reality of the “industry”. We decide what the industry is. We are the ones keeping this alive. And we are the ones who I have no doubt will keep finding new ways to enjoy media and keep this beautiful fandoms alive, no matter the odds.

burrow's end spoilers!

i am not a huge fan of horror. as a rule, i avoid horror movies and books, because oftentimes the violence in them is just too graphic for me

that being said, burrow's end is shaping up to be my favourite dimension 20 season, namely because of the horror aspects of it. very few streamable dnd shows have been able to recreate the dread and anticipation that i feel while actually playing dnd, but burrow's end does it perfectly

there is, of course, violence and gore (notably the infamous bear scene) but that doesn't bother me as much as it does with other mediums, probably because it's dnd and im sort of used to it. and yet it's the more "psychological" aspects of it that draw me and from what ive seen, many other people in as well

at first it's the not knowing, the uncertainty that causes the unease and later it's putting the pieces together, realizing where the stoats are and what they're dealing with, while they themselves are still ignorant on the basis of just not having the background information we do

i can't not talk about the tapes and the chilling revelation that it was the first stoats that were behind everything. hearing dr wenabocker at first say that everything was under control (and it's likely that he was right), and then only a couple tapes later say that there were clear signs of sabotage, that the cables were chewed through

and, of course, the attack, which is so far probably my favourite part of the show. it's shocking, and downright horrifying to hear and i genuinely had to take a quick break after that, just to process it. carlos luna, you absolute madman, that was incredible

and then we were introduced to phoebe

phoebe, who was behind it all. phoebe, who suggested they sabotage the plant. phoebe, who ripped her sibling's jaw off, when they wouldn't listen to her. phoebe, who gleefully attacked dr wenabocker and may or may not be puppeteering him right now. phoebe, whose return even the first stoats feared (and awaited)

ive thought about the implications behind taking over someone's body to further your own goals long before burrow's end but this has reignited that train of thought (i made a post about it months ago, relating to lockwood & co.) so i know for a fact that i will be thinking about the horror of it for some more time now. especially if that gets confirmed — and im hoping it does

aabria iyengar is a brilliant dm and storyteller and this entire season i have been consistently in awe of the pure genius of the narration and symbolism and plot points, and how she's able to craft such a masterful story

Which are your favourite proposals in historical, modern romance and movies?

Omg, fun!

For movies, I immediately have to call out Crazy Rich Asians. The moment when the ring was revealed, I remember this audible gasp in my theater (including me and my mom). Such a great way to close a loop in a movie, while being super romantic and swoony.

Obviously, Pride and Prejudice 2005. I prefer the way Joe Wright did it not only to the 90s miniseries, but the book as well. The rain adds to the atmosphere and passion, the anger and tension is palpable, the way the mood changes when McFadyen goes "Mr. WickHAM", the almost kiss. So good.

For all that there is some content that hasn't aged the best, Colin Firth's proposal in Love Actually was primo. The language barrier was used perfectly, and of course the reveal that she'd been learning English while he was learning Portuguese.... adorable.

This is technically in a miniseries, but it's piggybacking off two movies, so I'll mention it... When Q tracks Shelby down in The Best Man: The Final Chapters and does a grovelprosal??? So good. Like, you watched these two, objectively the most caustic and like... edgy? People in the series, dance around each other with random hookups (and a secret baby lol) for years, and he finally has to completely debase himself in front of a bunch of watching women who are like, filming this shit, begging her not to leave... So fucking satisfying.

For books, I would have to say....

The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe and The Duke Gets Even both have really good proposals, and neither one goes well for the men in question for very different reasons. Preston's in Bride is honestly a bad proposal because he's a broken human being who doesn't know how to accept that he loves Katherine and needs to be with her, and she's like "I deserve better than 'we should get married because we make sense and the sex is bomb'" and just sweeps out and leaves him like a broken man. Whereas Lockwood in Duke is completely in love with Nellie (him being like "I fucking worship you and am completely incapable of getting anything done when you're not here because it's like my arm's been ripped off or some shit" is.... amazing) and completely capable of expressing that love, but she cannot accept it. And he knows this. But he has to try anyway because he's SO in love with her.

Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall has a great one where Valentine proposes to Bonny when he's like, hiding in a tree or something. And he's basically like "listen it's Victorian England and we're both men so it can't be legal but I want you to be whatever a husband is for me and this is VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO EXPRESS". It's adorable.

Enzo like... grovelprosing to Gia in Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli is so deranged. It's like, a quick kidnap (that's their love language), a "I can't breathe without you FORGIVE ME", a negotiation of what she needs out of the relationship (a huge ring, a long engagement, maybe a vasectomy from him because she's not sure if she wants kids, and freedom to have her career) and him being like "YES FINE WHATEVER" because he's realized he needs her like air, lol. My beloved garbage people.

The thing in A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught where it's really less a proposal and more Royce taking Jennifer to the priest and being like "marry us, neither of you have a choice and I don't wanna be here either". And then he calls her a bitch. I loved that.

There are like... three? Proposals in Sierra Simone's New Camelot trilogy (one of which is accepted) and then sort of like an on the spot private spiritual wedding ceremony with what I guess is a proposal right before? And I loved all of it. There's so much angst and so much intense longing in those books. So many times for my boy Embry to get proposed to and go "I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH TBH".

OOOh I loooove the proposal in The Long Game by Rachel Reid. There's such a great buildup to it, and it's so romantic, and I also love that Ilya and Shane go from this big emotional sappy proposal to fucking on the floor immediately after. Good for Them.

Pairings: Tyler Lockwood x Reader / Damon Salvatore!Brother x Reader / Stefan Salvatore!Twin Brother x Reader

Summary: After 50 years, your brothers asked you to come back to Mystic Falls. Katherine seemed to be back again, which is why they both worried about you and want to keep an eye on you. While your brothers tried to find Katherine, you came closer to a greater danger then a psychopathic vampire. A Werewolf.

Chapter Summary: Back in Mystic Falls, you encounter some problems, like a doppelganger, the crazy ex of your brothers who tries to kill you and building a normal life for you in the meantime. In addition, you and your brothers have neither seen nor heard of each other for the past 50 years and if you don't become a team again, Katherine has already won.

A few months ago:

Step by step it became clearer to you, now there was no turning back. The sun felt warmer than usual as you walked through your hometown, for the first time in 50 years. 

It seemed that mystic falls hadn’t changed except for the people. Sure, it became more modern, but the people here seemed more careless. Kids were running around, others friendly greeting each other like nothing bad would ever happen in this small town.

Seeing all those happy people made you forget for a second why you actually came back. The woman who played your brothers like fools, turned them into vampires and forced them to turn you too, seemed to be back in their lives. which, unfortunately, would mean that she would be back into yours as well.

At your brothers' request, you came back to mystic falls, even if there were no concrete threats from Katherine's side against you, they wanted to keep an eye on you in order to be able to protect you, if necessary.

Even after years of not having set one foot in the city, you remembered every corner, so it wasn't difficult to find your way back home. Salvatore Mansion.

Many memories came back when you stood in front of the huge house, good ones but also not so nice moments went through your head. Again, not much had changed except for the voices that you heard in the living room of the house.

“Katherine.” You threw your bag and suitcase and stormed into the house. 

Katherine and you had a much more strained past than she had with your brothers. You were always the only thing that stood between her and her desire for love and power. Because if your brothers loved one thing more than their sick love for Katherine, it was you.

“Long time no see, Bitch.” In a second you had her by the neck and pressed against the wall. “I should’ve known, they’re still to weak to get rid of you.” You clenched your teeth while stared at her. “But I promise you, I am not.”

Katherine gasped and tried to remove your hand from her throat, but to no avail. Stefan ran to you and tried to get you off of her, but you could easily push him away with your other hand as if it was nothing. 

Damon came to you and took your face in his hands, "it's nice to see you Y/N, now let her down." he commended calm. "It's not Katherine.“

You didn't believe a word. He loved Katherine too, probably more than Stefan ever did, of course Damon would try to protect her. You just squeezed her throat even more and smirked while doing so, which made him nervous but he didn't give you a choice. Even if you were stronger than Stefan, Damon could pull you away from her.

He throw you against the wall while Katherine fell to the ground. Seeing how you older brother helped her to get on her feet made your blood boil inside you.

You balled your fists, “I swear, if you don’t rip her stone cold heart out of her chest, right now-” 

Stefan got back up and ran to Katherine, she snuggled up against him, still trying to breathe while he held her tight. You couldn't stand this sight and were already looking for a way to kill her in the next few seconds.

“My- my Name is Elena.” 

“And mine is Death.” You growled.

Damon couldn’t help but chuckle, he missed having somone as sarcastic as him around. He took your hand and kissed the top of it. “Glad to have you back sissy, now sit down.”

Your brothers told you about Elena being Katherine's doppelganger. She was Stefan's girlfriend and Katherine was after her, presumably out of jealousy, but they didn't know for sure. 

Normally you would have had a harder time believing all of this, but an old friend of yours told you a similar story a long time ago. But this similarity that Katherine and Elena shared, their looks, voice ... you could only hope for Elena's sake, that they were different in character, otherwise she would be back on your death list.

Elena seemed just as shocked as you, regardless of the fact that you tried to kill her, she looked like you were a ghost.

“Never seen a Vampire before, Darling?” You couldn’t stop starring at her too. Elena held her throat and her eyes wandered to Stefan’s obviously confused. “Oh, Stefan didn’t mention his Twin? Shocker.”

You went to Damon's personal bourbon shelf and took out his favorite drink, even though he didn't like sharing it, you were the only one whom he wouldn’t cut of their hand just by trying to get to his precious drop.

“Told you, she’d be pissed.” Damon took a sip of your drink, winking at Stefan.

You angrily took your glass from his hand,  “You’re not better.” you hissed. “No Calls, no texts, no nothing - for 50 years.” Your tone became more serious until you put the pieces together. “And now you want me back here to protect me? Nah.” You faked a laugh, and finished the glass all at once without grimacing, Damon was a little impressed by that. “Unbelievable. You wanted me here to protect her.”

Elena visibly uncomfortable, gave Stefan a disappointing glimpse, by that you could conclude that she actually had no idea what was going on and would’ve disagreed with them to just call you for her protection. 

From the looks of your brothers you could clearly see that it was Stefan's idea. He was the one who tried really hard not to lock with your eyes while Damon just waited for you to explode again.

Stefan scratched his neck. “Y/N, look-”

While Stefan tried to find his words, you turned around to have Damon re-fill you glass with his bourbon.

Because of Stefan’s blood diet, he wasn't even close to be strong enough to take on Katherine, but since you and Damon drank human blood, together - you were strong enough to take it up against her.

You raised your drink and with one sip the glas was empty. Your face didn't twist, which is why Stefan knew it was better not to say another word now.

“It was nice meeting you, Elena.” You gave her a friendly smirk. “I’m sorry but I can’t help you.”

When you were about to head to the exit, Damon was already rushing in front of you. He gave you a look, that said more than his words could have. 

You stared at him, "Do you know what it feels like when your family doesn't even ask about you for years? Oh no, because at least one sibling did.“ You lifted your arms.

Damon’s mind drifted away for a second as he remembered a darker time in his life, a time when he had turned off his emotions again. You found him back then, after months of searching for Damon, you helped him to become himself again, only so that he could then leave you and keep looking for Katherine.

You pushed him aside, “My Bags, in my room.” then you left the house.

You didn't like staying to protect a stranger who also looked like the person you hated most. Still, Elena seemed different even if the story repeated itself, but she was important to both of your brothers and your brothers were important to you.  You knew if they tried to take down Katherine on their own they would both die trying, at least together you had a chance.  

But that didn't mean that you wouldn't try everything to be able to lead a normal life, at least as much as possible for a vampire.

Now:

It wasn’t easy for you living with your brothers, you were still very disappointed with the real reason why they wanted you back. You tried to avoid them the best you could. 

You had decided that it would be a good idea to go back having a normal life, which meant to go to high school for at least the semblance of normality. 

“Hey Salvatore.”

You recognized the voice that was calling you. Smiling, you turned around while Tyler Lockwood already threw an arm around you.

“Hey, Stranger.” You grinned.

He scoffed, “Oh, come on. I had practice yesterday.”

“With a Cheerleader or the Team?” You raised an eyebrow. „You missed movie night.“

Tyler has become a good friend over the past few months, hard for some to believe, as Tyler was more interested in other things about women than just friendship, at least that's what they told each other at school.

Tyler pulled you into both of his arms, “Y/N,” he focused on your eyes, smiling softly. “You’re the only one for me.” 

You chuckled and pushed him soft away from you.

You probably wouldn't have become friends either, if you hadn't been assigned to a school project together. At first, Tyler flirted with you, but when he knew you were the twin sister of Stefan Salvatore, it stopped. During that time you got to know him better. Tyler was very popular at school, but he secretly seemed to have be a loner. Except for Matt, he didn't really let anyone get under his skin until you came.

“Do you’ve planes for tonight?” He asked but didn’t bother letting you answer. “Great. I’ll see you at 8 at my house, you’ll need a dress and a mask.” Tyler smirked.

“Tyler- I-”

He shook his hand and grabbed gently your face. “No, you’re not gonna get out of this. If I’ve to attend there, you too.” Tyler took your hand and spun you around. „I promise to show you my famous dance moves.“

You had to laugh but suddenly your face felt really warm. You quickly tried to hide it from him and put your hands on your cheeks, which made Tyler smile. 

You liked Tyler very much, against your brothers' will. Tyler's bloodline came from a long number of werewolves, the only thing that could harm a vampire, also they didn’t like him much. 

“You’re my best friend.” He added soft.

Your heart stung a bit, best friend, huh? You didn't change your face, on the contrary, you smiled and agreed. Even if you wouldn't admit it in front of him, Tyler was more to you, even if he didn't feel that way.

“Okay, I’ll come.” 

Tyler kissed your forehead. “Great, see you later!”

Anyways, you planned to got to the Masquerade Ball either way. Damon and Stefan argued too loudly this morning, probably they didn't know that you were still home, otherwise they would have been more careful and wouldn’t have mentioned that Katherine really was back and planned to go to the ball today. Otherwise you’d have hunted her down by yourself.

While Damon and Stefan were trying not to seem to suspicious as they prepared for tonight, you put on your dress (X) and put your mask in your pocket. 

“Hey, Y/N” Stefan shouted. “We’ll be back late tonight, so don’t wait for us.” 

“No, no, no. Did I mention, no?” Damon complained when he noticed you in your dress coming down the stairs.

You smirked. “I got myself a dress that doesn't steal the show too much, don’t you like it?”

“You heard us this morning, didn’t you?” Stefan helped you with the stairs.

“She hates you too, remember?” Damon asked in a serious tone to cover up being worried. “Y/N, she wants you dead.”

“So what do you want me to do? You wanted me here, extra protection for Elena, do you remember?” You shrugged your shoulders. “Besides, I've already told Tyler that I'll be there. If I don't come, it will be obvious-” You paused and looked at your brothers. “-since you still have the moonstone.”

Your brothers looked at you questioningly. They hadn't told you anything for months, also hushed up that Katherine was already back in Town, but they probably forgot that you were looking for Katherine too. Your eyes and ears were everywhere. The sooner you found her, the sooner you and your brothers could be family again. She seemed also to be the girlfriend of Tyler's uncle and protecting Tyler was just as important. 

“First, I don’t care about that dog-” Doman started.

But your brothers didn’t want you to have anything to do with the plan. The plan was already done and that included you and Elena to stay it out.

He took a deep breath. "-Second, fine." Damon came to you, now he couldn't hide how worried he was about you. “But you’re only there for distraction. As soon as we trapped her, you go home and wait for us. If anything gets wrong, you grab Elena and run.”

Damon knew you wouldn’t give up and since you apparently knew as much as they did, you could really be of help. Katherine has been jealous of you since she saw you for the first time, you were in her way - as well as Elena was. You both would be her target.

Stefan was clearly against including you into the plan. You haven't really gotten close in the last few months, which was hard because of Katherine and all that was going on also you didn’t make it easy for him, but Stefan didn't want to put you in any danger either.

“Come on, Stefan.” Damon spoke. “You’re still not strong enough to go against Katherine. Y/N can at least distract her long enough so I can stab her.”

“Sorry Boys, but we need Y/N.” Bonnie entered the front door. “She’s the best bait we’ve besides Elena. No offense.” She smiled friendly in your direction.

“None taken, Witchy.” 

Stefan shook his head and went out the door. You looked at the floor and wondered what Stefan's problem was. He wanted you to come back and help get rid of Katherine. Damon gave you an approving look and touched your shoulder.

“As soon as this is over, we’ll be a family again.” 

His words surprised you. Stefan and you were more like family people. Which was why Damon’s words meant very much. You turned to him and put your arms around his back. He took you in his arms and kissed your head.

You let him go and went outside where you found Stefan leaning against the wall, hands in his pocket while gazing at the stars.

“Hey big brother.” He ignored you. “You look handsome in a suit.” Stefan looked in the direction of the forest, you went to him and leaned against his arm. “At least, Elena will be safe.”

He turned to you irritated. "You think that's the only thing I care about?!"

You raised an eyebrow, "Well, at least for the last few months. You didn't even pay much attention to me at school - although we have the same classes together."

Stefan didn't say a word, but in his head he agreed with you. "I didn't want you to come home because of this, not to be a bait.." he couldn’t look at you. “The last time we saw each other, I was nothing more than a callous ripper. Y/N, I hurt you.”

You had almost suppressed it, but with Stefan's words the memories came back. You tried together with Lexi to bring back Stefan’s emotions after he flipped the switch, which worked - but what you brought back was anger. At that time he was angry that you had left him alone with Damon to build a normal life with trying to suppress vampirism.  In this time he was much stronger than you. He forced you to drink blood - lots of blood, or he’d kill random people while Lexi and you had to clean up after him. 

“You were right to be mad at me.” You replied softly.

“True but I shouldn’t have said all those things or made you-” Your eyes met. “Do you remember, how as children, we always knew exactly when one of us was feeling bad?”

“Twin Telepathy.”

“Call it how you want but it got stronger as we became vampires. I made myself believe, if you’d stop drinking blood, our connection would be gone.”

Stefan and you never said it out loud. But it was the truth. When you became vampires, you felt each other's emotions even stronger than ever before, even over the years and at a distance. If you concentrated you could feel each other.

“I know this was the reason why you left us in the first place. You couldn’t bare handling my feelings and your own, Damon and you never wanted to be Vampires.”

“Oh, cut the crap. We’re over this.” You replied harsh. “The only thing you should have done would be to contact me for the past 50 years.” You turned around to see Damon standing in the door frame. “That goes for both of you.”

You took Stefan's hand and went with him over to Damon to take his hand too. "Lets get rid of that bitch and get our lives back.”

“You’re such a pain in the ass” Damon spoke.

“Shut it, you missed me.”

I am sorry to say I have not actually read a poetry book... wait no, that's a lie, when I was in Elementary, I read Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends, that would be quite the bizarre story though.

8) A book you finished in one sitting

It's been a while since I've finished a book in one sitting, sometimes because I'm purposefully drawing them out to savour them, but a few came close. Lots of Kelley Armstrong's books have me tearing through them within a couple days like one of her most recent: A Rip Through Time, which I would have finished in one night had I started earlier and not had a trip to go to the next morning. It's about a Canadian detective in the year 2019 who gets strangled in an alley in Scotland and falls through a rip through time into the body of a housemaid who was strangled in that same alley in the same way in 1869 and now has to pretend to be this housemaid despite her limited knowledge of the time and help solve a crime without any of the modern crime solving techniques she's used to.

Oh also Survive the Night by Riley Sager, which is a fitting one to finish in one sitting as it takes place in one night. Though I am one of the few people on the planet who apparently likes this book. It's set in the 90s and is about a girl who's best friend was murdered so she wants to get the Hell off of campus but gets in a ride share with a guy who might be the killer. I thought it was fun, great 90s B movie material, and I love the style it was written in, very purposefully cinematic and paying tribute to classic movies.

Oh most of my favourites quite honestly, especially ones with mystery elements. I would adore being able to re-experience the Lockwood & Co. series, which is one of the best I've read. What can I say, I've always been a sucker for the ability to see ghosts trope. (It's about an alternate London where however many years ago, an epidemic of ghosts started to crop up all throughout Europe and it was discovered only kids could see them, so they were being hired by these major ghost hunting agencies that were being established, of which Lockwood and Co. is the smallest and only one without adult supervisors). But I read the first few when I was younger and feel like I couldn't appreciate them as much, then the last few just had me through the roof, but I still remember too many details of the first to just reread now, so I want to just memory wipe and experience the love again tenfold.

Still Single / Heathen Disco 2020 End of Year Recap

I guess I’m back! I started gingerly dipping back over into Tumblr to publish some reviews as a means of cutting through all the bondage photos and anime screencaps and people still living on Tumblrs (shout out to anyone still Tumblin', it's alright). I also redoubled my efforts to do great radio shows, and that seems to bother some of you enough to unsubscribe, but I'm feeling great about all that. If you wanna hear those shows, you can go to Mixcloud and listen to your hearts' content. Those 5-6 reviews on here actually turned up worthwhile music in my PO box, so thanks to those who submitted.

This was gonna be the year I reintroduced myself to the world. Don't make plans like that. Things are a lot better now than I thought they'd be, and the time I burnt up on movies and self-reflection this year was probably more needed than another DJ gig or whatever. Radio sustained me, I will freely admit, and finding records out in the wild once shops reopened was really killer too.

In Dream of You, that note that Camila got from the waiter, I've been thinking about it. A lot 🤔🤔

"All I do, the whole day through, is dream of you"

I remember when she was writing the album she kept posting videos of old romance movies she was watching, well...

That quote was taken directly from the song, 'All I do is dream of you', from an old musical film called Singin' in the Rain(1952). 

And I can see why she related to it so much.

Some points from the summary.

Don Lockwood is a very popular silent movie star who started out as a singer and dancer on the vaudeville circuit, then a stuntman, and then transitioned into becoming a star. The movie studio has created a fake romance between Don and his leading lady, Lina Lamont, to generate public interest about their films. The only problem with this is that Don cannot stand Lina, a vain, crass, and unlikeable woman who happens to look very good on film. (Sounds like Shon 😂😂)

One night, when Lockwood is overwhelmed by a throng of over-enthusiastic fans who rip his jacket, he jumps into a passing car driven by a pretty young woman named Kathy Selden....Later, Lockwood runs into Kathy working on another film, and the couple falls in love. They must keep their romance a secret from Lina, however, who would not approve of it.

Don is disillusioned by the shallowness of fame, as his on-screen love interest, Lina Lamont bores and annoys him. (Lol Camila's shirt the other day)

When we meet Don Lockwood, we see that fame elevates him and gives him a lot of power, but it is also alienating, forcing him into a relationship he doesn't want to be in.

The interplay between fantasy and reality becomes very important to the story. That which seems real is often fake...

One of the major themes throughout the film is Romantic Love:

The soul of the film is the love shared by Lockwood and Kathy. Their love is authentic and real, in contrast with the illusory, manufactured love affair that the public has imagined exists between Lockwood and Lina. For the sake of their careers, Lockwood must pretend that he cares for Lina, and Lina believes in the illusion for the good of her own career.

When Kathy enters Lockwood's life, the emotions he starts feeling toward her become so overpowering that he becomes enamored by her discerning and honest personality. He falls almost instantly in love with her, in spite of their bumpy start, and expresses his love for her earnestly and with a musical flair. The couple become inseparable and enduringly supportive.

At the end, not only does Lockwood expose that Lina's performance is a sham, but he also exposes his previously hidden relationship with Kathy, and shows the world that they are in love, catapulting them both to fame and glory.

101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure

I never thought I’d ever describe Mulan 2 as original and daring, but it’s starting to feel that way. 101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure feels more like a rip-off made to cash in on a desperate audience’s nostalgia than a sequel.

One year after their escape from Cruella de Vil's clutches, the 101 Dalmatians, their pets Roger (Tim Bentinck) and Anita (Jodi Benson), and Nanny (Mary MacLeod) are leaving London to go live on a farm. When they depart, they accidentally leave behind TV-obsessed Patch (Bobby Lockwood). When he bumps into his hero, the heroic cinematic canine Thunderbolt (voiced by Barry Bostwick), they set off on a media-grabbing adventure. Meanwhile, cured Cruella de Vil (Susanne Blakeslee) begins reverting to her old self when she sees an art exhibit of black spots on a white canvas.

I had hope when this film began. The re-introduction of Cruella is cleverly handled. She’s been put through the wringer thanks to her dognapping scheme being exposed (I’m not entirely sure how that happened considering the only witnesses were dogs… did the dalmatians testify in court?) but still craves fur. When she spots that abstract art exhibit, it's funny. She becomes obsessed with dots and the artist (Martin Short as Lars) thinks he’s found his muse. Looks like they spent those 42 years polishing the script!

My hopes were quickly dashed. This plot is nothing special. 101 II is a little more than a jazzed-up episode of the 1997 TV series with a bigger budget and a lot of material borrowed from the Disney Classic. The new villain isn't interesting. We don’t get to know any of the Dalmatians besides Patch. No surprise but it’s like if Gremlins 3 followed some random Mogwai instead of Gizmo. Something's missing. This sentiment also applies to the visuals. In a way, this movie looks just as good, if not better than the original with its frequently sketchy lines… but this makes it look generic.

I hate to keep comparing the two, but let’s examine some facts. This movie was made decades after the first. It’s released on home video and depends on you having seen the first one to understand what’s going on. It’s aimed solely at children whose untrained eyes won't notice the difference and haven’t seen enough movies to recognize how predictable this tale is.

The humor is broad and there aren’t any chances taken character-wise. I noticed at least a couple of plot holes or mistakes and I wish I could give away a truly baffling moment at the end but I can’t so let me say this: When Pongo, Perdita, Anita, and Roger are off-screen, something big happens. When they learn about it, they’re not surprised at all. How come?

The animation looks pretty good, but overall, the film is just the same pieces you’ve seen before, shuffled around, and tacked onto a generic story. I don’t hate this movie; it just fails to rouse any enthusiasm at all. If you do choose to check it out, stick around to the end of the credits. There’s a scene worth waiting for.
