theres this quote running around from jacob anderson where he talks about how historically black people have been removed from period dramas and how, as suggested by the interviewer (w/ blueiight embellishment ofc), the very few times black charas would show up in these period pieces theyd be side characters delegated to a raceblind narratively incoherent plot to placate an audience ashamed with / of the nuances of blackness. i rly like how he said louis’s character represents both a ‘black and very human story about a vampire… [Black people] do not usually have the opportunity to play such complex and fluent characters’. i think that brings to heart a lot of why this show has my heart, as an armchair historian and r.n. (dont ask what that stands for). u racebent characters in a way that coheres, situate ur black characters in a specific context, and the story never deludes us into thinking the mere existence of an interracial relationship is enough to end racism. in e2 louis literally says “fledgling sounds like slave, dont call me that” and e3 starts with louis telling lestat the history of dismembering runaway enslaved ppl & placing their bodies on the gates of of jackson square.. in his initiation to vampirism, louis is moved from the historically Black creole treme area he grew up in & is placed into lestat’s townhome in the very white, french, old quarter. vampirism as hes initiated into is a loving, powerful, cruel, and isolating existence for louis. bc of vampirism he is able to kill a racist person and not be lynched for it, hes able to echo the historical dismemberment on the alderman by placing his body on the st louis cathedral, but he is unable to kill racist groups & systems that initiate race riots. his connection to claudia in s1 is not so much by the oedipal, but by both their connection as lestat’s fledglings and as Black [creole] people placed in a part of the city largely alien to them both. this connection can be broken down even further. louis saw claudia as his joychild of sorts, ‘[his] redemption’ for his 5 years of pimping but a big part of her tragedy is that a child being made into a vampire cannot redeem anyone, much less redeem an individual from what was a historical inevitability. claudia is adopted into such a stature that she wouldve otherwise never reached by virtue of being made a vampire, but even then that is conditional. claudia is rendered inert from being anyone’s ‘wife’ forever trapped in the confines of immaturity as a ‘daughter’, only hoping at best to be louis’s ‘sister’ and isnt that resonant to bw.. she’s selectively infantilized both a child ‘meddling in the affairs of her parents’ , ungrateful, arrogant, and adultified - presumed powerful enough to ‘poison louis against [lestat]’ , taking on the role of louis’s ‘knight in vengeful white black’ .. the response lestat has to claudia is characterized by him continuing the cycle of abuse he once faced toward her and with a black claudia who was once a poor girl now adopted into this immortal luxury it takes on a racialized element. “bach is beyond you” and claudia bites back with “yes this french music is hmm. not made for these mongrel ears”. the absence of metaphor is striking!! literally the fact that this show does not shy away from the era its set in is why its so good.

Pain.

The first sense you regained after your long dissociation was the soreness in your hips. Your vision returned as you began to sink back into your body again, and watched yourself jostle up and down on a horse; watched Sandor’s hands grip the reigns loosely on either side of you. Your eyes drifted up and you saw the sun was still low in the sky. Was time standing still?

You licked your lips and were embarrassed to find your voice came out raspy when you finally asked, “How long have we been riding?”

Sandor’s hands tightened noticeably like you surprised him. “All day…”

“Anna, where’s Anna?” You began to worry, tossing your head all around until you found her trailing behind on a beautiful white horse. You were relieved when she met your eyes and nodded in greeting. You then shyly attempted to meet the eyes of your savior—or kidnapper, depending on how you viewed it. He stared straight ahead, to your dismay, and so you returned your gaze forward as well.

“That horse was meant for you…”

He said it like a grievance. In your head you weighed the reasons for which he could be upset. Was Anna unwelcome, and if so why had he allowed her to come along this far? Or was he simply upset at sharing a horse with you, being in such close proximity with what had been dead weight for a full day… You were grateful Anna was there, regardless of how he felt about it. If it had been only you and him, you weren’t certain how safe you’d feel. He rescued you, didn’t he? Or did he just love killing?

“We can break at the top of this hill.” He spoke louder to communicate with the mute girl behind him, and then he kicked the horse in the side and the pace quickened.

Sandor dismounted first and began digging through the saddlebag beside your leg. You stared awkwardly at him and waited. If this was one of your romance novels, he would have wrapped his arms around your waist and helped you down like a gentleman. And yet after emerging with an apple spattered in blood— the apple Charlie had given you— you remembered the gravity of the situation. This is far from a romance. Sandor offered the apple to his horse and stroked his large head before he looked at you like you were dense. “Comfortable up there?”

You said nothing for a moment, blinking back tears brought on by the memory of Charlie’s beaten face in your lap. You looked down at the red smears on your dress only to jerk your head back in Sandor’s direction. “I don’t know how to get down…” he half smirked and looked to Anna for confirmation of this humor. She, however, was also still up on her horse.

“Oh that’s a riot.” He laughed cockily. “On the run with two women who don’t know how to get their feet back on the ground.”

“You didn’t have to take us!” You glared down at him. He rolled his eyes before extending one hand out to you. You were too heated to accept his pitiful offer. “Forget it.” You swung your leg over the horse’s body and tried not to wince at how sore the position change made you. The steed was tall compared to The Hound, but your pride was taller still. You took a quick breath and jumped down, landing on your bare feet and falling to your knees. Wordlessly you brushed yourself off and tried to ignore the chuckle you heard as you walked over to Anna. She swung her legs to meet your chest and you reading yourself to catch her at her waist. She hesitantly slid down and you set her down as gently as possible.

When you saw her close enough, you realized her face was stained with tears and you blushed in embarrassment as you realized you must look the same. She wrapped you up in a hug but you patted her to release you. Don’t look weak. He abducts me and acts like I’m a fucking burden??

You turned to the mocking giant. “Why dont you make use of yourself and find some firewood? Instead of standing there like a pompous ass.”

Your words appeared to have no affect on him and he went for his saddle bag again. “No fire tonight, princess. Soldiers and thieves will be scouting and we’re not gonna be waving a big fucking flag for them to run to.”

Damn.

“Tell your friend to bring her bags over here and empty ‘em.”

Your face twitched in anger once again. “She can hear, you know!” Anna placed a soothing hand on your shoulder and shook her head to dissuade you. You huffed as she walked over with the bags. The hound dumped out his saddle bag and the two she’d brought onto the grass and started sorting through it. He looked up at Anna and you lingered around the horses. “Hungry?” She nodded and he handed her an apple and a slice of bread.

“You should eat too, princess. The pompous ass insists you keep your strength up.” He mocked again. Deciding that you were not winning these exchanges you simply resolved to be quiet. You pet the black stallion’s long nose and gazed into his eyes. “Two fucking mutes for company.” The Hound muttered under his breath, lying back and biting into some sliced meat as the sky darkened.

Eventually you sat down beside the horse and watched the stars begin to shine all around you. It was colder this high up and you wrapped your arms around yourself. The dress you received from the women in Littlefinger’s employ, while beautiful, did almost nothing to protect you from the elements. An open back and small cutouts at your waist; nothing you would have dared to wear outside of your room in your old life, and it was now all that you owned. Anna had drifted off to sleep beside The Hound and was snoring softly. Her horse had laid down and slept as well, while the midnight stallion slept standing up. You couldn’t see Sandor’s face any longer and you were grateful for that. It was quiet, but you felt no sense of peace. You yawned once and drew his attention inadvertently.

“Don’t fall asleep there…” The tension resurfaced at the sound of The Hound’s voice, and you gasped softly in surprise. “If Stranger feels you in his sleep he’ll kick and stomp you before I can get a word out.. He doesn’t listen to anyone but me.”

You looked skyward at the great beast and wondered. “I bet he would listen to me.”

Sandor snickered in the darkness. “Just because he hasn’t attacked you, don’t flatter yourself thinking you’re some whisperer.”

“I got you to listen to me, you’re just as fearsome and hateful as he could ever be…”

Sandor said nothing for a while and you began to shift away slowly from the horse. “You need to eat.”

You sighed. “I’m fine.”

“You’re going to starve yourself because I told you to eat?”

“I’m not starving. I know what starvation feels like, do you?” You were angry with him, every word he spoke sounded grating to your ears.

“Yes. I do.” He surprised you. You reflected back on what Charlie had said about The Hound skipping meals. Was he starving the whole time I was?

The venom began to drain from your voice. “I ate at the brothel… we don’t have much, I saw the provisions. You can have my portion for tonight.”

Sandor huffed. “Not gonna happen.”

You didn’t understand how to feel about him now; did not understand his intentions. “Why did you bring us here?”

“She wasn’t part of the plan.”

“So there is a plan then.. Me, why did you take me?”

“Does it matter? You’re here now, King’s Landing is back that way, though I’m not sure whose flag is flying.”

You furrowed your brows. “What do you mean?.. You said we lost— that the Baratheons—“

“When we left I saw Lannister flags marching into town… Soldiers, real soldiers coming in at the last minute could have turned it around.”

You were too stunned to speak for a moment. The Hound tucked tail and ran?! He was supposed to be a real soldier, a kings guard, a fearsome bloodthirsty knight— leading all of those average citizens to slaughter, and he ran away before it was over? He could betray Joffrey as a result of his own fear but not to defend you?!

“So you left it all behind for nothing?! And you’ve stolen me away in your cowardice as well!” Your voice was raising uncontrollably and Anna began to stir. It was at that moment in the darkness that Sandor’s large hands lunged towards you and gripped your arms familiarly. “Shut your trap!” He growled, face nearing your own— the stench of blood and sweat ever growing. He practically dragged you down the hill as he spoke. “Awful bitchy whining coming from someone who’s only alive because of me!”

You raised your arms and with all of your strength attempted to push him off of you by his chest. “Alive because of you?! I’m a fucking enemy of the crown because of you!”

“You think you were in his favor before?!”

“I would still be alive with Baelish! I would be safe with Baelish! Not riding to nowhere with a beast afraid of his own shadow cast in the flames!” You struggled all the way through your speech, growling and spitting back at him and finally he let you go, sending you to land hard on your ass.

“You ungrateful little cunt!” He spat out like the words were poison.

From your position on the grass he looked gigantic and hateful. And yet you knew there was duality in him. Not so long ago you watched him weep for you, watched him kill the man responsible for taking Charlie’s life, watched him cut off the hand of a man who plotted to sell your body. And yet it was he who put you in that vulnerable position in the first place. You hated him, still.

“You wanna take your chances walking, back that way’s your best bet. Enemy of the crown, that’s a fucking laugh! Enemy of a prissy brat too scared to fight in a war he started. You wanna try to go back there and grovel, that’s fine. Be less belly aching to listen to, and I’m sure your little shadow will follow you too…” He was exasperated at the end of this speech and tossed his hands up weakly in the air, his next sentence sounded nearly pleading. “But you don’t want to be alone out here… Someone worse than me will find you… And I’m not going back there.”

You heard the fear in his voice. For him, King’s Landing fostered wildfire, Gregor Clegane, and Tywin Lannister— a much smarter enemy and just as cruel. What did King’s Landing hold for you? Only your family. You wondered for only a second how different life would be for them. You hoped they were not to be punished on your behalf. Who would actually notice you gone? Petyr? Certainly another enemy made, but you had the sense he had bigger plots in store than simply turning a profit at his brothels. You were practically dead already once in King’s Landing, and no one had cared. Well, only the dead boy in the streets and the two people here with you right now. m

“Am I your prisoner? Your hostage?”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” “Am I your prize?” For as long as your memory went back, you were not in control of your own life. You were a possession. You were the memory of your beautiful mother and the promise of a better future. When you were married off to the hound, you were truly only half a person. You felt whole once with him, but it was all a lie. Broken down to nothing by the men in your life, now was perhaps your only chance to feel truly free to make your own decisions. “Am I allowed to leave?”

Your fingers pulled anxiously at the grass beside your legs, honestly unsure of the answer you were hoping for. On one hand, you wanted him to want you. To be your protector the way you once saw him. On the other, you wanted it to be your choice.

The man sighed and you saw his head turn to look in the direction of your former home. “I won’t stop you… but you’re making a mistake… I can protect you, keep you safe… I won’t hurt you, (Y/n).. If you stay with me no one will hurt you again or I’d kill them…”

A promise you were not convinced anyone could keep, yet spoken with such conviction that your heart yearned to believe it. “I won’t fail you again.”

You held your breath for a moment, standing and allowing your eyes to focus in the dark so you could make out his features. It appeared he too was holding his breath, eyes scanning all over your face in search of clues. “I will decide in the morning.. We’d both better get some sleep. I assume you’ll want to move at day break?”

Sandor continued to stare at you for a moment, and the silence made your palms sweat even in the bracing chill of the wind. Then, he stepped towards you and you held your breath in anticipation. “You assume correctly.” He stepped right past you and started up the hill. “I won’t be sleeping tonight. Gonna keep watch. You can sleep with Anna, I’d assume it’s better than sleeping on Stranger’s back…” He turned his head at the top of the hill. “I risked a lot to get you out of that Hell hole, (Y/n). I’m not saying you need to be grateful or.. I’m just saying it should mean something to you… If you choose to go off on your own in the morning, you need to know that it meant something to me…”

You watched him disappear into the dark sky again and sighed, finally releasing your tight fists. It meant something to me… When you laid down, you held Anna’s hand to ground you as you tried to settle into slumber. A part of you that you were ashamed to admit to wished it was Sandor Clegane’s hand that you were holding.

okay i do have to do a mini (i call it mini now.. this is just letting my feelings about it out, so its spelled agressively bc im just so .. frustrated ... also not hate to the studio or the people working on it .. obviously >_>) rant about arcane-

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ARCANE SEASON 2

its the most beautiful show ever produced, i mean it, its style, fortiche's (the studio) style, is just .... impossibly pretty, 3d and 2d, the animation is just so GOOD, the designs largely (like 95%) are too, the acting and sound design, the voice acting (at least the english one) is so emotional and good, the show in general is just good ... until the last episode

i have my own problems with riot declaring arcane the new canon out of nowhere and for no good reason since it was, im very sure, never conceived to be that, its a reinterpreation and works best as such, now literally everything is once again completely messed up, no one knows whats real and what isnt, no champion or story is safe, especially with the weird hexcore bullshit potentially erasing the VOID (whish is like ... half on which the canon was built on tbh) AND hextech- multiple champions being impossible to exist now .... but thats not what i wanted to talk about

i was pretty on board with everything the show did, though i wasnt a big fan of the whole hexcore stuff, but it all spiraled so far out of control, it just kept making everything worse, also with bringing in the black rose and leblanc, it kept piling stuff onto the plate despite them already compressing everything so drastically; espeically regarding viktor, but i kept my hope up even after season 2s act 2 bc it still seemed 'fixable', though not easily so

what i liked about it (in its writing) despite its pacing issues was that it was rather .. self contained for the longest time, focused on the characters and the class struggle of piltover and zaun, and doing so rather well imo, like it did and said things i did not expect riot to let through

i was worried with the alternate universe stuff that came with the escalating hexcore bullshit but held onto hope even until episode 8 and then ...man .. the last episode ... the fuck was that- like i hate timetravel and multiverses and whatever but the thing with ekko was done rather neatly ... they made all those chaarcter models and sets just for that short stuff and really .. was of little use other than getting heimerdinger out of the picture as well lmao maybe he will get his own series to advertise for 200 dollar skins in league hahaaaa but i guess the main point was to give ekko the z-drive ... which feels alot like what i feared about them forcing it to comply with the characters in game ,,,, even though that wasnt for everyone like warwick was done SO dirty after giving me hope in act two

everythings focused on the hexcore/arcane shit, theres the black rose shit (honestly i think it was a mistake bringing them in too bc .. noxus is its entire own region with so many champs and story itself that got connected via ambessa .. which was a new character the show made up until they made her a champ now .. its just too much to put into this one show already going at a breakneck pace), mel doing her bit with them then bam she mage now which felt like a champion teaser more than an organic part of the story, especialyl with how hard it got pushed later (poor little riots gotta sell more game cosmetics uwu), jayce just taking over control again and everyone going with it, singed reviving stupid version victor via using vander/warwick WHO WAS STILL ALIVE AFTER ISHA BLEW HERSELF UP TO STOP HIM FROM KILLING EVERYONE (which was ALREADY pretty cheap, but i guess jinx had to be even more suicidal than she already was heehoo), dont even ask me HOW, viktor was just whoops from corpse to im a cocoon now, ambessa being so obsessed with it, the entire class struggle being """"solved"""" by piltover and zaun fighting stupid viktors weird ass robot shitheads together and then acting like giving sevika a seat at the council is the solution to it, half the cast just dying horribly for honestly no reason?? ORIANNA being now i guess some weird viktor robot but without the mindcontrol part and singed just kinda ... winning i guess by giving her cocoon some goo of stupid viktors cocoon

it just all ... turning from this so drama, character and class struggle thing into weird ass dimension hopping magical world war that all gets solved bc we fought together once uwu AND it being a fucking timeloop WITHIN what ONE episode? and that being the ENDING (i know i know the hexcore bs was building up throughout the show but it still felt so .. unearned and sudden ... )

also i got personal gripes with the 'ending' bc .. was it REALLY an ending like they kept saying?? was it?? viktor, jayce, heimerdinger, jinx are just disappeared i guess, mel going back to noxus- the fucking 'our story isnt over' tease???? the last minute appearance of swains fucking raven???? pecking at something blue and shining like idk a hex crystal??? SHUT UP i dont want more to come, this story should have had its self containing ending, not this open ended bullshit that just reeks of corporate meddling bc they want their game to connect to their popular show as much as possible now so we gotta bring in as many teases and connections to other champions YIPPIEEEEE (yelling)

also if jinx is dead, wow, what a way to end her story, the traumatized suicidal character being tortured and tortured especially after seemingly having something good for once (i liked act 2 except for its ending the most bc ... man jinx was so enjoyable there, i loved her dynamic with vi and isha and half wolf vander warwick with the beast and man struggle i love alot, that part was genuinely beautiful, i wasnt a fan of the idea of idk ekko doing time stuff and them having a happy ending bc i just dont like going back in time to fix everything kinda stuff, but i would have much much prefered that, not changing the existing story into the perfect world where everythings happy (though i liked that part ... vander silco being gay husbands like that is just so goood) but to fix what is fixable in the present- them still having gone through alot but being able to live with it, so act 2 setup was honestly my favorite way to not invalidate everything and still have something happy .... but no we gotta kill the kid to make jinx even worse and vander/warwick too while we are at it

if shes not dead (given you see a blimp(?) flying away and her scribbles showing up and caitlyn looking at the blueprints of the hexgates) then ... ??? oh yeah lets make her leave zaun and just idk go be the main character in noxus or soemthing for the next show they are gonna do bc jinx is popular so putting her everywhere is a good idea!!!1!!11

ALSO since vander/warwick is my favorite .. i thought maybe after isha doing that, if they dont reverse it, hed get taken by singed again or ran away and turned fully werewolf like he is in the game (though i would have liked if they were able to be a weird family like in act2)- but no he just gets used as fuel for stupid viktor cocoon and then mind erased and made into the ugliest weird robot thing that looks more like galio than him JUST and i feel like it really is JUST to have Vi at the end do the scene that gets jinx 'killed' .. to lead into the 'more to come' teaser.. idk about you but that scene felt so .. forced, the typical oh no platform is slowly falling down but Vi suddendly gets emotional about weird ugly robot warwick (who conveniently comes back to life as ugly robot beast since his human mind got erased but not the beast??? i guess???) and completely ignores jinx yelling at her to get to safety, it felt so WEIRD to me (if you gotta do him like that at least let Vi listen to jinx, them embracing and then watchign emotionally as robo vanderwick falls into the hexgate thing .. that was still active somehow i guess??)

He was just a guy who worked with his brother in the mines and both were friends with Vi and Powder/Jinx mother (Felicia) ... yes he was a revolutionary , yes he was like "im too punk and edgy and cool for caring about the future ! Lets make Zaun !" Which was understandable i mean you live in a poor shitty undercity and you are looked down by the Pilities who never have to worry while you are in the slums worried if you will even have a tomorrow (lack of food n water / contaminated food n water , live in the streets for the most unlucky ones etc etc) and the Topside wont hear you , if course you go "FUCK IT LETS RIOT !" ... as we all know Silco fought on the bridge with Vander and Felicia (well maybe she didnt wanna fight because she had Vi and Powder/Jinx so maybe she was with them because she had to run from enforcers ?) ... and Felicia died (we dont know if Silco accidentally killed her wanting to punch an enforcer but in his "high" of "OH MY GOD IM PUNCHING EVERYONE !" or she was already dead (i think its the second option because we can see his face drop as he sees Felicia lifeless like "...no no no hey no this isnt supposed to happen !") ..) , Vander saw Silco at the wrong moment wrong time , and decided to just attack him...

Now just imagine that: you are fighting for your life and your people's lives , and you see your bestfriend dead , and you try to process that shit all while you have raging enforcers running at you wanting to arrest/kill you , and on top of that you have no time to explain or you simply cant explain to your brother why and how y'all best friend died ... and this brother of yours decides to attack you and kill you in the worse ways (drowning + gauging your left eye out) ... all you can think about is "i lost everyone... he hates me ! They all hate me! i hate them all ! Betrayers !" , you dont have time to think "its a misunderstanding ... its gonna be okay" ...

Of course i aint condoneing everything , im just stating the facts like...of course he would turn out this way after that crap ! The opposite woulda surprised me !

Also despite his "im a fucking menace" act... you can see when Vander attacks him again in S1 A3 , his first reaction is to FREEZE and have flashbacks of him being drowned again... THAT GUY STILL GETS MF PTSD LIKE DUDE GO TO THERAPY AND CALM YOUR TITS ! (He has to shake himself off like "WAKE UP HE IS GONNA KILL YOU !" to react)

(No i wont mention how...lame the excuse letter was , i mean , I know vander is shit at this (thats what he says in the letter too bwaha) but...he could have maybe asked for Benzo or someone else to help him write the letter for Silco ? Like instead of just "yeah uhm im sorry uhm...find me at the bar eh ?" (Which would have infuriated Silco even more imo , like imagine you get disfigurated and almost killed and the person who did that gives you a poor piece of paper ? god i have so much to say about season 7—not only was watching the todoroki family the most devastating thing ive ever witnessed—their family history is so intricately tangled and i really wonder if touya is still alive (i haven’t read the manga, i hope he is, and i don’t wanna read it online dammit) i want to see them come to a proper closure so bad i need them to be okay with each other even if endeavor isn’t forgiven (which is honestly valid) i want this family-against-touya-to-protect-everyone-else situation to bring them together in some way dammit!

OK this is going to be a little long but I need it out of my head so I can function and who knows maybe someone will appreciate the analysis !

Big spoilers for the last two episodes of arcane. You've been warned~

The final of arcane was very beautiful animation wise and does close around two (maybe three) of the storyline started before. But, and that's my problem it completely throw out of the window any and everything about zaun and piltover... in the worst way possible for me.

And that's what we're gonna talk about here.

And now that I know the episode was supposed to be 1h30 instead of 50minutes it makes a lot more sense. Riot, give me at least the storyboard, or the scripts, or the unused voicelines, anything really. Thank you.

So. To put it simply. The entire final is from the point of view of piltover only and yes, that's a problem.

"But Herk, it's a greater evil ! We don't have to discuss about the zaun/piltover situation it's about unification !"

Let's deconstruct that statement shall we ?

First "the greater evil" :

Up until episode 6, Viktor got a thriving and peaceful community going on in a place that was a wasteland before. None of the people here are drones yet (yes they are eerily peaceful, yes it was the beginning of the 'evolution' but at that point they werent yet drones), as proven by vander situation itself :

We clearly see Viktor searching for his personality in the terrible work Singed did on him. And finding him while talking with Sky that this is using is very finite resources but it is worth it.

When warwick says "don't touch my daughter" it's not Viktor talking. It's vander.

He is disagreeing with Singed on using his method and we don't know at that point if people would have died with him if his death hadn't been brutal... which leads me to :

Then Jayce comes around and kills him, starting the chain of events that leads to the final. (Because "you can make me see the glorious evolution is not worth it" becomes "if I murder him it will stop everything." Instead of, i dont know, talking to him and saying "look in my mind". Dumbass.)

We have no clue what could have been (haha) if Jayce had talk to Viktor then. Maybe he could have severed his link with the commune in a gentle way, maybe not. But we don't get to see that. Because jayce jump-start the actual Glorious Evolution.

Now for the "it's about unification" part :

Pilltover has been keeping Zaun under dictatorship for months, wagonning people to prison without as much as a trial (but hey, they didn't use the _worst_ cells yet. Because 10 people in a room with no bed is very human. Fuck you).

Used the "grey" which is basically mustard gas in zaun's street as a way to "keep people safe". Do I really have to say thay it is bullshit or ? (Especially as we see victims of the grey beat up and left IN IT after the enforcers passage !)

And have the confirmation that pilltover is very aware of the gas problem in zaun (even over their enforcers having gas mask instead of. I don't know. Making sure the air is breathable without risk in zaun.)

And all of this for ? Ha yes, allegedly capturing one person. Again, not taking any responsibility in why this person exists in the first place (exploitation for decades > violent repression > murdering her parents > corrupt police making their money with gangs and not caring about it because what consequences? haha we are up they are down).

While using a foreign military to do so.

( "but Cait is grieving!" I don't care. It doesn't justify her putting thousands of people through fascism.)

And we see sevika and zaun trying to defend itself but with limited resources as always and an internal situation extremely messy because of the gangs that are left (chembarons who wouldn't have existed without the corrupted pilltover police doing their bread on it and the council not caring, as ever, just as a reminder).

Now for some details :

In the first two acts we hear "our people"/"our city" to talk solely of piltovians.

Caitlyn and her great "i keep telling myself you're different, but you have the same blood in your veins".

Great to remind us that she does still think people of zaun are not the same breed as her and are filthy to the core by their fucking blood itself no less.

Considering her mother was on the council when the last revolt from zaun happened and so she was part of the people that took the decision to kill all the protesters.. including vi parents. Her statement becomes very ironic on top of being atrocious.

And let's not forget how she forced her into an enforcer costume while saying "I understand your pain"... yeah you don't. Your mom died in a result of the decade of action and inaction of her own council, you're an adult and still have your father. Both vi and jinx parents died trying to get under the heel of their oppressors and when they were children no less. Fuck you.

Jayce and "we build the core of the hexgate in the fissures it's fine" and ekko telling him that they didn't think about zaun water and air supply that go through the fissure and would have been destroyed if the hexgate had a problem.

Because, as always, they don't actually care about the people in zaun.

And bonus point, he doesn't apologize for making the tree and everything else sick. It's just "we didn't thought about that". AGAIN, no ownership of what pilltover is doing to anybody else.

Now that the set is ready let's go back to episodes 8 and 9, through the zaun/pilltover lense.

Jinx is in prison. She does apologize to Cait for her mom.

Cait doesn't even apologize to Vi.

Cait doesn't stop officially the dictatorship or apologize to zaun's people for what she did and left be done to them.

Cait doesn't even take responsibility in giving grace publicly to jinx, no, she let's the responsibility of getting jinx out to vi.

Leaving jinx to be a fugitive still if she actually gets out.

That is NOT owning to one "bad actions". That is being a coward and a hypocrite. And making someone else responsible for whatever happens next (yes she gives vi the choice and leaves her jinx' vendetta in the past gnagnagna, it's still completely self centered and hypocritical).

Jayce, which just murdered a number of people and provoked vander and Isha's deaths, tells people that Viktor is a menace.

For all vi knows he isn't. She saw him help vander and people nobody cared about. There is no reason for her to help here. And there is no reason for zaun people either.

We do not see the inside of zaun, at all.

We get a few people leaving and a few enrolling in the enforcers because... yeah who cares that person beat the shit out of me for month we should fight side by side and die together as one. No. Just no.

For all we know, and is being said to us, Viktor and Noxus want the hexgate. They do not need to do anything to zaun for that. They can literally (and apparently that's what they do) just roll past zaun and go directly to pilltover. The only zaunites we see dead are the ones who fight for pilltover.

Jayce talks solely of pilltover and its "undercity" there is no recognition of zaun or what has been happening for decades.

At least in that scene we see sevika and Scar leave in a :

"Ho yeah ? Noxus that you used against us for all this time is now a menace to you? Tough luck."

"But Herk ! Jayce puts down the barbebwire doors around zaun !!!!"

And that makes it OK? It makes everything before it OK? "I let you out of the camp I made around you so you can fight for me". NO. Just no. Even less considering none of the people who actually took the decision to get the dictatorship running and those gates up owns up to having done it; again.

Side note : it clearly takes a few days between the beginning of ep8 and the actual attack of noxus.

Explain to me why jayce didn't shut down the hexgate at that point, keep using hexteck' weapons and a literal arcane hammer while preaching how bad it is ??!!! That man is stupid but apparently everybody around him is too.

(And Don't tell me "but the hexgate was getting people out" just. Don't. The ships could have just fly away on their own with the hexgate shut down. Come on).

Ekko and jinx have the beginning of a conversation (i love this scene tho) and then we are back with pilltover only.

Fast-forward to the fight and HO WAIT people of zaun arrive "to help" because its a greater evil ! It makes everything fine right ?

No.

And here the details of why for me :

We do not get any closure of the zaunites storylines : Sevika and Scar don't even have a single line together or with jinx and ekko.

Ekko and Scar have been making the tree and their sanctuary one the only safe place of zaun for more than 6 years.

Ekko has been missing for months and we don't even get to see him reunite with the firefights ?? Not even one second ?

Sevika was there for Jinx then Isha during the whole of act 1 and 2 of season 2. But we don't even see them talk or sevika being made aware that Isha is dead.

Yes. Jinx' balloons got elements in honor of Isha and her depression is about that part of her that died with Isha. Sure. And it's very well done _for HER character_.

But what about sevika ? She got a very good arc that kept getting better during the season 2 and suddenly she is a background character that doesn't even deserve to have any feelings?

And it's the same for the firelights. They are here during the fight, we can even spot a few other minor characters of zaun.

But they are props.

They have no feelings or emotions (except angry yelling of fight). You are not here to empathize with them because they don't even exist as characters in that moment.

If you like them already you'll be scared for them (I yelled when I thought sevika would die, not gonna lie) but nothing more.

Jayce and Viktor... very pretty, gay being unable to say I love you and all that BUT ALSO "I'm sure there is still a bit of you in there" / "why do you persist after everything I've done"

I... You KILLED HIM you absolute dumbass of a man. You murdered him and made him lose his humanity THAT HE STILL HAD and then you call to it !?? And then Viktor blames himself

.. I can't even. I know it's because he wants jayce to say he loves him but haaaaaaaaa !!!!

Jayve has always been an idiot but that takes the cake. Most toxic ex ever, Viktor must really love him because for fuck sake xD

Ekko saves the world.

Because jayce is so bad at this and being a self-fulfilling prophecy guy that he condemned the world (like in apparently all realities where that version of the story happens).

Do we see anybody acknowledge it in the aftermath ? Do we see any recognition of a zaunite saving the situation?

Nope.

"The battle of pilltover will long be remember".

Pilltover. Just Pilltover.

Ekko's action or any zaunite's deaths during that war that Pilltover fabricated all through its own action and decisions ?

Erased. Forgotten. Not important in the Grand History. It was only Pilltover all along.

"But Herk. You're unfair, we see the little paper scene at the end ! And sevika becomes a councilor !"

Yeah. We do, and it's still shown in the show that the situation is not actually resolved : just look at the new counsilors' expressions when sevika sits down.

They still think she is beneath them and shouldn't be there... BECAUSE nobody in pilltover acknowledge anything done to zaun. Still.

And I'm glad she is a councilor don't get me wrong. I'm happy we at least get one element for zaun by the end.

But its too little and still with not even a line of dialogue.

Also, why not Ekko or Scar too ?? Sevika was a leader of a certain group in zaun, but Ekko/Scar represent a lot of people too.

So zaun is still not fully there. (And ya know, not too many zaunites come on, one for the show but not too much).

And worse. Nothing is even acknowledged to the public. Listen to the two episodes and notice how nobody say "zaun" in them, it's only undercity/topside and pilltover.

The conflict is totally erased from the narration except for that one dirty look the councilor gives Sevika.

And don't tell me I'm exaggerating because I saw, in less than a week since the final, enough take on how pilltover was absolutely not responsible for anything/zaunites were the sole responsible for their hardships and any act of resistance from them was terrorism (thanks usa), that I know a lot of people sadly took that ending in the most stupidest way possible.

Also, a detail but... Nobody is there to put a paper for Viktor.

He will stay the "Villain" of the story, forever. Because people only got Jayce telling them he was bad and never knowing the actual truth of what happened.

And that's quite disheartening too.

Jayce the piltie was a hero. Viktor the zaunite was a villain. That's it. Who cares Jayce literally provoked Viktor transformation, twice. Who cares the fight happened because of pilltover and their hexteck...

Hell, even then we see Ekko being utterly alone. Thanks for saving the world from a piltovian manufactured war and losing all in the process my guy, nobody said ever in the show.

And Singed, who is a piltovian, gets everything his way while being the absolute worst. Which ya know, forces my respect but also i hate this guy.

Because in case you hadn't realised, even shimmer was made by someone from pilltover ready to sacrifice anyone and first zaunite lives for his goal.

And the final nail in the coffin ? The last sentence of the show.

"But but it's so romantic!!! Its vi saying she's choosing to stay with Cait !!"

Really ? You think saying you're the filth under someone perfect manicure, that no matter how much they wash they can't get out... is romantic ? Damn. I knew about dirty talk but that takes it to another level (this is a joke btw).

But no matter if romantic or not, Cait never apologized to her, zaun or anybody else. She didn't own up to anything she did the entire show.

(And do remember that the whole base of the show happens because of jayce lab having dangerous materials in the middle of town; and because a kiramman was there, the council needed someone guilty from zaun).

What it is on the other hand, is still a comparison between zaun and pilltover.

They are on top, clean, except for the filth that stays under them and they can't get rid of.

And that pisses me off a lot.

Because with those 40 extra minutes we could have had the characterisation of the zaunites.

Sevika learning about Isha.

Ekko reuniting with the firelights.

Zaun actually being shown in danger and why they would help pilltover (where again jayce brings no reason to. Its just his word against everything pilltover put them through).

We could have had just a beginning of acknowledgement from pilltover OR a call out about it not happening by the people of zaun !!!

Ekko calling out Caitlyn (and Vi too honestly) would have been amazing! And a call back to season 1 where she went on about how he should not continue the cycle of violence, the audacity of a bitch I swear.

It could have fixed the problem I have with the ending. And that's really a miss for me...

Even if I did like the episodes in themselves ! They were gorgeous (mind!herald be looking fiiiiine) and the noxus and arcane storylines got finished (arguably the sisters one too). But please gimme what's missing about zaun.

Well. Now that I got it out of my system... I'm gonna go live in ep7 ! XD where my fav characters are all alive and grown up !!! *happy*
