Since Something New is going to become a much larger thing then I expected (whoops) here is Rook's (Inky) family tree so things are less complicated to follow along with cause the relationships in the family are really convoluted.

First thing to know is the person Rook refers to her mother or mom is Angela as that is the woman that raised her. Second thing is her "cousins" (Robin and Jay) are clearly not her actual cousins. They are her step sister's half siblings (what else is she supposed to call them?). Third is that Jewl and Neve are not together at the start of Something New. That is coming later. I just figured I'd add it so I wouldn't have to later. Fourth is at the starts of Something New the only kid Rook and Lucanis have is Dante. Don't worry about the other two they have them later but again I added them so I would have to do less work down the line.

General Summery: Petra and Axis were married and were slaves in Tevinter. Axis ran away with Robin and Jay but Petra died before he could come back for her. Axis gave Robin and Jay to a family friend out of fear that is he was caught his kids would be killed. Axis later met Angela and moved to Rivain with her. They had Jewl but Axis chose to go back to Tevinter to fight for the freedom of elves. Angela refused to go back to Tevinter and the two divorced. Conrad and Lianna were married and had Rook (born Emora) and when Rook was one the fifth blight happened. Conrad and Lianna tried to escape but Lianna died and Conrad took Rook to Rivain. Conrad met Angela and the two bonded over being single parents, sailing, and cooking. Angela basically adopted Rook and soon Angela and Conrad got married. Rook's name was changed unofficially from Emora to Inky but Rina. Together Conrad and Angela had Emma, Rudy, and Darian and raised all five of their kids in one big happy family. Axis was captured by Tevinter authorities and executed. Jay had a son and named him after her father. Conrad was killed in the same incident that got Rook kicked out of the Lords of Fortune and it's haunted Rook since.

Short Bios:

Rina Laidir: She's a 68 year old woman who has spent most her life in Rivain. She worked as a waitress and did everything she could to support herself and her daughter. She now lives a quiet and happy retirement and Angela is happy to support her mom after everything her mother went through to raise her. Rina would look after her grandkids when Angela and Conrad were off hunting treasure. She gave Rook the name Inky when she was a little girl and that became the name everyone knew her by.

Angela Laidir: She is 48 years old and is a Lord of Fortune. She spent much of her early life finding various ways to make money to help out her mom. From a very early age Angela looked up to the Lord of Fortune and dreamed of having her own ship one day. She though had to put her dreams on hold when her mother got sick so Angela got a job working at the same place as her mother. After getting into some trouble when she was 22 her mother sent her to live with a family friend in Tevinter where she met Axis. Angela helped sneak Axis to Rivain and the two got married. When she was 24 years old she had her first child, Jewl, and when her baby is only 6 months old Axis chooses to go back to Tevinter. She refused but Axis chose to leave anyways and the two divorced. That was the last time Axis would ever see his daughter. Newly divorced and a single mom, Angela was redetermined to make her dreams happen. Not wanting the same life for her daughter that her and her mother had. After only 3 years Angela had worked her way up to captain and finally had her own ship. 2 years later Angela met Conrad and Rook. Angela instantly loved Rook and treated her like her own child. Conrad and Angela fell in love and married. Over the next 17 years the two had Emma, Rudy, and Darian. Angela taught all her kids the skills she knew in hopes they could be great treasure hunters like her. Angela was worried about Rook as she found Rook to be a bit dense and too trusting of others.

Conrad Laidir: He was 56 when he passed. He was born and raised in Ferelden. In his early years he worked as a town guard until his father passed and he had to take over the family farm. When he was 32 he married his first wife, Lianna. The two lived a peaceful life and a few years later the two had Rook, originally named Emora by her mother. Their perfect life only lasted for about a year since the fifth blight stuck and the couple had to flee. Lianna was killed in the chaos and Conrad took Rook and fled to Rivain where Conrad spent most his time working on ships. He would sneak Rook on board since he had no one he could trust. After a few years Conrad became employed by Angela and the woman came across little Rook on her ship. Instead of firing him Angela chose to help Conrad look after his young daughter and the two became close. Within about a year they got married and raised their 5 kids together happily

Jewl Laidir: She is 24 years old and a member of the Shadow Dragons. She grew up in Rivain but wanted to continue her father's mission after he was killed when she was 10. When she was 18 she went back to Tevinter and while Rook tried to follow Jewl made her stay. Jewl, like her mother, was very protective of Rook and always worried about her overly kind deminer. Worried Rook would get taken advantage of one day. Still Jewl chose to go to Tevinter but stayed in contact with her family. While in Tevinter Jewl discovered she was attracted to women and gained an interest in Neve, but never knew how to act on it. So Jewl chose to stay professional. When Jewl heard about Conrad's death she was heartbroken over it. Not only cause she lost her only other father figure but cause she wasn't in Rivain at the time and couldn't save him.
