riley huang was born on september 19th, 1999 to a chinese mother and a chinese-canadian father. her mother, huang eumeh (born 1975), is an accountant currently working in beijing, china. her father, brian huang (born 1972) is a computer scientist working in beijing, china. her parents met in qingdao, china at their job.

riley was born in qingdao, china as the first child of her family. when she was four years old, her family moved to vancouver, canada. that same year, riley’s younger sister, ella was born. two years after that, in 2005, riley’s younger brother, ethan was born. riley used to be somewhat close to her younger siblings but she isn’t anymore.

when riley was three years old, she joined a prestigious ballet academy in china. she enjoyed the sport very much and continued to pursue it after moving the canada the next year. she stuck with ballet for years, earning her the solo regional champion for 2009, 2010, and 2011 before she had to move to seoul, south korea. riley continued to do ballet until she auditioned for JYP entertainment. when she was accepted, she had to quit because she didn’t have time. riley trained for two and a half years before going on the survival show, produce 101. she ranked 13th in the final episode and couldn’t make it into the debuting group. after produce 101 ended, riley was contacted by Cre.ker entertainment. riley decided to leave JYP and join Cre.ker. 

FACTS !!

riley was a cre.ker trainee for one year and six months before debuting with the boyz.

she attended seoul high school until the end of ninth grade before transferring to school of performing arts, seoul (sopa). she graduated in 2018 with a major in practical dance. 

riley’s parents are not supportive of riley being an idol. 

she calls the older members by “hyung” instead of “oppa” most of the time. she rarely uses “oppa”.

riley is the brand ambassador of dior for china and all of asia.

riley was diagnosed with depression in 2012. she takes medication for it every day. 

riley has a history of self-harm. she used to slit her wrists from 2012 to 2015.
