Higurashi: Abducted by Demons Recap

I don't feel like I got all my thoughts out on this arc so I'm going to make a general post. I'll probably do this for every arc.

This is the first arc of the series. So it has to make sure a new reader understands the premise and what to expect through the series. The first half of this arc is very exposition heavy as a result. Once the audience knows what is going on, the story focuses on the mood.

Throughout the first half, we get glimpses of how something is not right about the village but the second half goes completely off the deep end. There will be moments that are more graphic and unnerving than what happens in this arc, but the first arc needed to be extreme so anyone curious will understand whether or not they're interested or can handle this series.

And as for the art style, I absolutely loved how Karin Suzuragi drew eyes throughout the arc. In particular, I loved the moments where a single uncanny panel would be included in an otherwise normal scene.

My absolute favorite panel in the arc is when Rena asks Keiichi if he ate the ohagi. Nothing before or after that panel is unusual. Then that one panel pops in and you can feel a shiver go down your spine only for everything to continue as if nothing happened.

And all it would take is a little bit of detail in her eyes to remove the uncanniness and unease this panel causes.

Since this is the first arc, the story also had to blitz through the process of establishing everyone's closeness. The arc is entirely focused of Keiichi and Rena's relation and how it completely collapses when Keiichi finds out about the series of murders in Hinamizawa. On a reread, Keiichi and Rena's friendship felt like it was focused on to the point the other characters are essentially background characters. Later arcs will flesh them out more, but we don't know much abut Mion, Satoko, or Rika outside their connections to the murder victims.

Similarly, Tomitake interacts with the main cast far more in this arc than he does in later ones. It makes his death hit harder.

Some notes about major characters from this arc:

Keiichi Maebara: He moved to Hinamizawa three weeks ago.

Rena Ryugu: Birth name "Reina".She had moved out of Hinamizawa when she was younger. At some point she assaulted three boys with a bat and smashed every window in her school. In her psych evaluations, she frequently talked about Oyashiro-sama as if she is possessed by it. She moved back to Hinamizawa a year ago.

Mion Sonozaki: Leader of the group's after-school club. She has several misdemeanors due to her actions during the village's protest against the dam project.

Satoko Hojo: Related to the second and fourth set of victims

Rika Furude: Related to the third set of victims

Curaudo Ooishi: A detective with the local prefecture who wants to figure out the cause of all the deaths. He suspects a group within the village is behind the deaths.

Jirou Tomitake: A photographer who visits Hinamizawa several times through the year. He died by scratching out his throat.

Miyo Takano: A nurse at the local clinic. She went missing after the Cotton Drifting Festival.

Satoshi Hojo: Satoko's older brother. He used to be part of the after-school club. He disappeared a year ago. Prior to his disappearance, he started carrying a bat and practiced his swinging. He also became distant from the club.

Now let's go over what we know or suspect about the murder mysteries:

Since 1979, someone has died each year during the Cotton Drifting Festival.

The first death was the director of the Dam Project. He was murdered and dismembered by several people. The person who took the right arm is still at large. However, the Director might still be alive.

The second death was Satoko's parents. They fell off a cliff. The wife's body was never found.

The third death was Rika's parents. Her father died of an illness and her mother drowned herself in the swamp. Her body was never found.

The fourth death was Satoko's aunt. She was beaten to death. Satoko's brother Satoshi also went missing around that time.

The fifth death was Jirou Tomitake. He clawed out his throat after apparently being attacked by several people. Miyo Takano has also gone missing. Tomitake's death is suspected of being drug induced.

Every death has a pattern of one discovered death and one missing person. People in the village refer to the disappearances as the person being "demoned away"

The villagers refer to the series of deaths as Oyashiro-sama's curse due to the connections to the dam project. However, each new victim is less and less connected to the project. Tomitake had no connection at all, and Ooishi suspects the murderers are just targeting outsiders at this point.

🌳 - What’s their extended family like?

those  voyagers  witches  have  no  family,  extended  or  otherwise,  that  they  know  of  or  care  to  remember.  their  thousand  year  lifespan  has  so  far  separated  them  from  such  ideas  that  it  is  difficult  for  them  to  even  comprehend  the  idea  of  familial  bonds.

however,  that  does  not  mean  there  are  not  beings  in  this  vast  multiverse  that  they  don’t  have  some  kind  of...  relation  to.  while  it  may  not  be  what  the  humane  call  “family,”  it  is  the  closest  thing  that  they  may  have  to  such  a  concept.  and  that  is  the  pieces  they  embody.

for  bernkastel,  the  easiest  point  to  start  would  be  RIKA  FURUDE,  the  first  piece  that  she  directly  connected  herself  to  as  far  as  we  are  aware  of.  bernkastel  played  on  the  higurashi  gameboard  and  took  control  of  rika,  moving  her  in  ways  that  suited  how  she  wanted  to  proceed.  however,  they  also  shared  the  same  tragedy,  being  stuck  in  a  logic  error  that  neither  of  them  could  escape.  they  are  seperate  beings,  but  their  connection  is  close  enough  to  sometimes  call  that  into  question.  ---  if  you  count  her,  rika’s  family:  her  mother,  father,  as  well  as  all  her  ancestors  leading  back  to  hanyuu  could  be  connected  to  bernkastel  in  a  pseduo-extended  family  way.

ERIKA  FURUDO  is  also  someone  that  could  fall  into  this  category,  being  “made”  by  bernkastel.  she  refers  to  erika  as  her  double,  or  even  her  daughter  in  some  cases,  due  to  erika  being  made  in  her  likeness.  however,  erika  existed  as  a  real  person  before  bernkastel  brought  her  to  the  gameboard,  so  blood  relations  are  nonexistent.  she  more  so  just  adjusted  her  appearance  in  order  to  mimic  her  own.  i’d  say  it’s  a  stretch  to  call  these  two  family,  but  it  would  be  remiss  to  not  acknowledge  her.

for  lambdadelta,  you  could  quickly  connect  her  to  pretty  much  any  human  being  she  has  granted  the  power  of  certainty  to.  though  the  most  notable  ones  would  be  MIYO  TAKANO  and  VIER  DRIESSIG.  she  does  not  directly  control  these  pieces,  so  the  connection  only  ends  at  her  sponsorship.  although,  BEATRICE  could  possibly  count  as  someone  who  lambdadelta  has  both  sponsored  and  taken  direct  control  of  in  games.  again,  no  biological  connection,  but  a  piece  is  probably  the  closest  thing  a  witch  on  their  level  has  to  a  family.

there  is  also  SATOKO  HOJO,  who  is  a  bit  of  a  special  case  as  it  seems  that  lambdadelta  used  a  pretty  hands-on  approach  playing  her  on  the  higurashi  gou/sotsu/meguri  gameboard.  this  was  likely  because  bernkastel  uses  rika  the  same  way.  out  of  all  her  pieces,  lambdadelta  seems  to  hold  the  closest  connection  to  satoko  (miyo  being  a  close  second  due  to  the  whole  34  thing).  and  if  lambda  has  a  close  connection  to  satoko  in  the  way  bernkastel  does  to  rika,  then  you  could  be  bold  enough  to  call  satoko’s  mother,  father,  aunt,  uncle,  and  brother  lambdadelta’s  extended  family.

i  will  say  that  neither  of  these  witches  believe  there  to  be  any  possible  familial  connections  between  themselves  and  these  people.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Sotsu

July starts with the crying of cicadas and so does our first title that opens the path for July and can be translated as When the cicadas cry: Graduation.

It’s Sequel of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou and well known fourth season of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni franchise.

While the previous seasons have already bestowed us with many answers to the mysteries of killing and the many tries to recover a perfect world in which the characters can live in.

This season and especially the first arc act as an answer arc to the Onidamashi-hen and revolves around Satoko Hojo’s attempt to stop Rika Furude from leaving Hinamizawa.

Currently stated there will be 15 Episodes in this season.

What will await us in the continuation that will reveal yet many cruel truths?

Otome Hametsu 2nd Season

As we covered the first season in our breakfast anime and already announced the second season’s arrival, Otome Hametsu also finally is airing it’s continuation.

While our Protagonist Catarina Claes may have successfully avoided all her Doom Flags up until now and even after avoiding her bad endings, reaching farther than the actual storyline in the game what will await her when she doesn’t know which doom flags should be avoided next - without a plan at all like in her previous path up until now?

With a close circle of friends and excited for the upcoming school festival as her first year in school comes to an end, will Catarina finally be able to live a comfortable life?

As the anime will start with the first incident of Catarina’s kidnapping, it seems like the supposed doom flags are not to be avoided that easily!

A story and place in which humans and vampires currently coexist, while a young vampire Noé is travelling Paris in search of a book called Vanitas which according to rumors can unleash a curse upon all vampires.

But as he is on his way on an airship to Paris, a certain black-haired man crashes into it holding that very book he was looking for in his hands.

The eccentric man who introduces himself as Vanitas, one who was given the same name as the book he was holding and also supposedly inherited it from the vampire of the blue moon.

He ends off his introduction by the statement that he is a mere human, but wishes to save the vampires with no care in the world about what others may think about it.

How will the journey of the eccentric human and young vampire who won’t attack them play out?

Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki

Now in most Isekai anime in which the protagonist suddenly wakes up in a new world Kazuya Souma also happens to be transported into another world, but unlike other characters his image of heroic behavior doesn’t match into that category.

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt The Kingdom, when the protagonist rebuilds the Kingdom with modern technology instead of adapting into the image of an expected hero that people imagined him to be.

Engaged to the princess and immediately taking the leadership in his hands, he needs to gather his support system of skilled people to help the country prosper again.

No like the normal adventurer we see in other series - but through an own economic system befitting his ways of administration that he knows from his former world!

Shinigami Bocchan To Kuro Maid

Cursed at the age of 5, the young duke and protagonist of our story is a walking bringer of death since everything he touches dies immediately whether it’s a living being or a plant.

He lives alone in a big mansion far away from people to avoid hurting anyone and also being shunned by those around him.

Only a maid dressed in black is the only companion he has in the depths of loneliness of the big mansion, Alice the one existence that causes him worry more than anything else.

Since she is the only one who is not scared of him, quite on the contrary Alice is keen on harassing the young duke and tries to seduce him every day in order to get a certain reaction out of him.

How will it play out for those two when the young duke despite his romantic feelings is not able to touch the one he loves?

Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru

The detective is already dead! and with that the story starts without its hero.

In the present day our male-lead Kimihiko Kimizuka tries to return to an ordinary life again as a High school student.

After four years of being an Assistant of a detective called Siesta, who also was his former boss, his adventurous and dangerous everyday life turned back how it used to be before with Siesta’s death.

Back to how things should have originally been, Kimizuka tries his best to adapt back, but simply cannot forget the four years of events that he had lived alongside the detective.

All of that seems like a story that came to an end- which is far from true since the now back to Highschool boy meets a girl who looks extremely like his former boss.

A story that was supposed to end, is just about to start…

Uramichi Oniisan

When we enter the world of adulthood and society starts to see us in a different light after graduation, there are always many faces one holds.

But one reality always sticks despite the many faces: being an adult sucks.

And so does the “big brother” Uramichi teach his children in the show “Life lessons with Uramichi” not only physical exercise but also depict the big difference between adults and children, sometimes letting comments slip that are supposed to stay hidden…

Alongside mascots and two others, the colorful children’s show on the surface has the bitter taste of suffering adults in the shadows.

Shiroi Suna no Aquatope

When a retiring star travels to Okinawa her life takes a sudden change.

Deciding that her new ambitions would be to save an aquarium from shutting down, as she helps them and starts a new life.

Fuka Miyazawa’s dreams were lost and died when her career didn’t make it through no matter how much effort she put in.

Telling her mother she won’t be back home with other intentions in her mind she stumbles upon Gama Gama Aquarium where she meets Kukuru Misakino, a 18-year old highschool student who also works at her family's aquarium.

Kukuru’s dream is to take care of the aquarium and keep it alive, therefore she works hard and several jobs over summer break in order to keep it from shutting down.

When the two girls meet, both decide to share the same dream of protecting the aquarium with the summer being their last chance.

July 31st

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Gaiden 2nd Season

This series will continue straight where it left off in season 1, with the girls shocking news that they were meant to be witches all along.

As some of the girls have learned how to reverse the transformation of becoming a witch through Kyubey’s fears though things won’t go as easy as they thought it would and many side effects will occur due to that.

Much more is not revealed yet about the upcoming second season, but stay tuned since it’s at the end of July there will probably be some news coming and PVs added.
