Osterhase Cheer.

The bunny is a symbol of fertility, and what better way to celebrate the abundance of Spring than with a photo next to the Osterhase, or Easter Hare?

“Osterhase" is a German word that means the hare of Eostre, a northern goddess of fertility. The exchange of eggs, another tradition of Easter, is an ancient custom celebrated by many cultures.

Protestant German immigrants in the Pennsylvania Dutch area brought the idea of an egg-giving hare to the United States in the 18th century. According to legend, only good children received gifts of colored eggs made in their caps or bonnets.

To mark the occasion, I went with Bubi to the Shwick Market next to Little Skips in Bushwick, where the Easter Bunny would be posing for photos.

Artist Catherine Stackpole, who has a wonderful stand within the market—she sells beautiful collectible sweaters and vintage clothes—had set up a diorama complete with hay and eggs for people to pose with the bunny.

For the occasion, I decided to wear a pair of bespoke crochet pants in Easter pastels, lace and ribbons by Electric Love Lite; an Only NY hoodie; lace appliqué baseball cap I found at Housing Works and Nike+RT AF1s.

Van sent images of artisanal eggs he had photographed at his studio, and I’m sharing them as I love them so much.
