Architetrix
Carlos Ramiro
Thailand
Architetrix is a minimalist architecture and design photography project of the building called Muralla Roja. Muralla Roja is a building designed and built by the architect Ricardo Bofill Levi. It is located in the La Manzanera urbanization, within the municipality of Calpe, in the province of Alicante, Spain. Its construction was completed in 1973, although according to the architect own words, its design began ten years earlier. The configuration of the building is a constructive aesthetic evocation, based on a series of patios connected to each other from where the houses are accessed, and on the roof terraces the solariums are distributed on different levels.

Ricardo Bofill Architect Dies
Barcelona, 14 January 2022 – The architect Ricardo Bofill Levi, Spain’s most international architect, died this morning in Barcelona at the age of 82. Born in 1939 in Barcelona, Bofill leaves behind a wide and varied architectural production, as well as many ongoing projects.

From its innovative collective housing complexes of his early years, such as the well-known Walden 7 and the Red Wall, to infrastructures such as the Barcelona Airport, the corporate headquarters of Shiseido Ginza in Tokyo and that of Cartier in Paris, and current projects such as the Mohammed VI University with offices in Ben Guerir and Rabat, Ricardo Bofill has stood out for questioning the dominant thought in architecture. And from that philosophy an enormous production has come out – around a thousand architectural works in forty countries – very varied in its stylistic expression, deeply rooted to the site, with a strong component of innovation and risk.

La Muralla Roja, postmodern apartment complex in Manzanera, Calpe, Spain – near Alicante, 1968, constructed by 1973:
Ricardo Bofill founded the Taller de Arquitectura in 1963 with a multidisciplinary team formed not only by architects, but also by other professionals and artists such as the literary critic Salvador Clotas, the poet José Agustín Goytisolo or the economist Julia Romea. This transversal spirit still survives today, with his two sons, Ricardo Emilio and Pablo, in charge of the office for the past few years, leading a plural team of more than one hundred professionals from thirty different nationalities who are currently developing numerous projects. This amazing team of people, along with the whole production of his architecture, is the true legacy left by Ricardo Bofill, in the words of the architect’s sons.

Ricardo Bofill Leví “Seduced by the contradictions and the ambiguity of the place, we quickly decided to retain the factory, and modifying its original brutality, sculpt it like a work of art. Presently I live and work here better than anywhere else. It is for me the only place where I can concentrate and associate ideas in the most abstract manner.” - Ricardo Bofill Leví on ‘La Fabrica’. Let’s talk about Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill Leví (born 5 December 1939). Bofill Leví uses the Spanish naming customs: Bofill is the paternal family name, Leví the maternal family name. Since 1963, Bofill Leví has continued to lead international architectural and urban design practice 'Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura'. Bofill Leví was raised in a Catalan bourgeois family. His father, Emilio Bofill, was a builder and developer, Bando Republican and liberal and a progressive who was vehemently against Francisco Franco’s regime. Ricardo’s mother, Maria Levi, was an Italian Jew and the matriarchal pillar of the family. Bofill Leví studied at the 'Barcelona University School of Architecture' and graduated from the ‘Université de Beaux-Arts Genève’ after been expelled from University and Spain during a demonstration where he was arrested. At the age of 17, Ricardo Bofill designed his first project, a summer home in Ibiza and by 23 became lead architect of ‘el Taller’. Over fifty years later, Bofill still leads ‘Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura’, with over 1000 projects to date in over 50 countries. Did we mention that his work is absolutely breathtaking with a striking use of colour, clean lines and an almost ethereal beauty? See for yourselves. RICARDO BOFILL.
