Week 8: April 3rd – April 9th, 2023 // Let the solo travels begin!
Well folks, the adventures have truly and officially begun this week!  I’ve left the comfort of Hobart and the Fitzy Castle House, and am now traveling the mainland with just myself and Peg.  I’d like to start by saying whoever else has been lead to believe that Australia is always hot and sunny, I’ve got sad news for you.  I figured my timing to more or less “chase the colder weather” because I was worried of how I’d handle the Australian heat would still be giving me at least consistent sunny 15+˚C… It has not lol it’s been pretty comparable to Vancouver seasons thus far – both in Tassie and now along the south coast.  No, I shouldn’t be this surprised; geographically it all makes sense when you actually think about it… it’s just been a rude awakening knowing packing the toque was actually a smart idea and not a waste of space lol.
--
Monday was such a benchmark day for me – I officially completed my first ever van build!  The fact that we designed, bought material, took everything out, and built the whole thing from scratch in just 5 days (realistically only have like 4-6hours at a time) is pretty fucking amazing to me.  I was just adding up the days as I thought we had done 6 or 7… I’m so impressed with how well we worked together after having never met before and SO grateful to Rhys for giving me so much of his spare time (all in the middle of moving houses too I might add).  An absolute legend!  There were a couple minor things we would’ve like to get done that we just unfortunately ran out of time for – but the overall build of the main components we wanted were completed and it looks so freaking good. Like I could not be happier with it.  And after this first week living out of it and having it organized, I feel like I can really live and breathe in this space.  It’s so nicely laid out and organized, I can’t wait to put together a proper video for you all!  After a thank you dinner for Rhys, I couldn’t get to sleep till quite late as I was FAR too excited about the van and figuring out how I wanted to organize it all.
--
Tuesday was an emotional day for me as it was time to officially move into my new home, while getting ready to say goodbye to what has been my home for the past 7 weeks.  I got an early start and spent the day putting up my lights, organizing all my gear, cleaning. The afternoon I spent sorting out some electrical stuff (big shout-out and thanks to Ethan and Lauren for your help), writing notes and getting flowers for the house + the couple who let us use their space for renovating the van.  Managed to get in one last climb late night climb with Sam+Annie before giving the house my little thank you gift.  Was really nice to have everyone home for the night, with Alissa having been gone most of the time I’ve been here.
--
Wednesday was a pretty successful and eventful day! Early start to cut my own hair, pack the last of my stuff from the house, say my goodbyes to the housemates, grab coffee w/Sam+Sammy, get some new runners to get back into running/working out while on the road (shout out to Sam for the discount!), and finally dropped off the flowers and note to Sean+Megs as a thank you for allowing Rhys and I to use their home for the van build.  Not gonna lie, I got real sappy this week…  I find I often express myself best through my writing, and was feeling a lot of gratitude for a lot of people this week.  I had many complete strangers go out of their way to help me out in some really big ways during my time here, and I can’t help but think about how different my first 2 months would’ve been had I not met Alissa back in Canada last October.
The afternoon was spent on a beautiful 4-hour drive to Devonport, where I found a nice little spot just down the road from the ferry to park for the night.  Was feeling pretty exhausted from the past week, so after organizing some food for the ferry, and blowing out my inverter trying to use my induction stove top (whoops)…I ended on an early night with some reading.
--
Ferry day was actually such a dream.  I hadn’t realized how run down I’ve been getting, so the forced RNR was very much needed.  Thanks to Sean’s advice, I went straight to deck 10 and snagged one of the only 4 couches on the ferry and set up camp.  They were surprisingly super comfortable and perfect length for me to fully stretch out and take many naps lol. Bringing a blanket, I think was my best idea.  There wasn’t much for service most of the ride, so my time was divided between napping, people watching, snacking and reading.  The 10hours flew by pretty quickly, and next thing I knew, I was looking for a place to park for the night!  Ended up in a parking lot that I didn’t realized locked at night, so had a cop knocking on my window at 23:30 telling me to park out on the street next to the park… finding free spots is going to be a bit of a learning curve I imagine haha.
--
Friday I got to experience my first Laundromat, and I gotta say, I picked a good one to start with… super clean and newer machines.  Got all my clothing and bedding washed which felt SO nice to crawl into that night.  I was back n forth a bunch between whether I begin the road trip west, or back track to Melbourne… I decided that my body still needed some rnr time, so I found myself a beach/cliff spot 20min south of Devonport, called Point Addis, and set up camp for the rest of the day to read and relax.  I managed to finish another book which I realized has brought me to 8 completed books since I left Canada!  I ended up with a beautiful break in the clouds and found my way down towards the beach.
One of my favourite things I’ve been consciously trying to practice has been “grounding,” which is the simple practice of walking on the earth barefoot.  There’s a lot of benefits to grounding, but my favourites have been noticing the toughness in my feet build up, as well as my attentiveness to where I step.  The increased attentiveness has me focusing more on my body and the present moment, and reducing the amount of random mental chatter and wandering I have when on walks.  It’s been a really useful tool for practicing more mindfulness and meditation.  It also reminds me of all the time I spent barefoot as a kid, playing in the backyard, climbing trees, wandering the neighbourhood – it has a way of connecting you back to your inner child.  I highly recommend reading up on it some more and practicing it yourself!
After today, I decided that spending time in downtown Melbourne is not what I’m wanting right now, and with my route I have planned for this year, I know I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to visit and explore the city another time.
--
So with that, I made the most of Saturday by practicing some yoga on the boardwalk at sunrise, getting some errands in by running to Bunnings and Jaycar (hopefully for the last time finally) to fix my kitchen set up and replace my inverter.  The guys at Jaycar were absolute GEMS! I went in with my inverter thinking I had completely ruined it and was just going to recycle it with them, but the guy at the counter took the opportunity to forfeit a bigger sale and help me open up the inverter and make just a $2 fix!  They also came out to help check on the battery and connections and ended up fixing a piece to make it work even better!  Jaycar has probably been my favourite Aussie store to work with – every location I’ve been to, the employees have gone above and beyond helping me, while making it as affordable as possible.  Can’t recommend them enough for any electronic needs.  Made some grocery shop stops in town, visited another zero waste grocery store ‘The Source.’  Then made my way to Industry Boulders for an afternoon climb! Really loved this gym.  They had some really fun routes and felt really good to focus just on bouldering.
Made a little impromptu stop at a beautiful art gallery/nursery just off the Great Ocean Highway, and had a really lovely conversation with the resident artist there about how it’s important to remind ourselves that our creations aren’t for everyone.  Create for yourself – the people who resonate with you and connect with your work will follow.  Forcing yourself to fit a mould that wasn’t meant for you, will only disrupt your inner peace and disconnect you from the work you truly wish/are made to be doing.  (artist IG: @saltandpeppergallery).
I ended up heading back to Point Addis for the night since I finished in town a bit later and knew that I wouldn’t have people asking me to move… hopefully.
--
Sunday was a pretty blah day for me.  Woke up a bit later not feeling too great (think I’m on the verge of a cold), so I went in and out of napping and reading for most of the day.  Managed to get myself out for a little walk and make a really tasty pasta dish, but decided to continue taking it easy and spend one more night at Point Addis before hitting the road and taking on the Great Ocean Road this next coming week!
-
After finishing “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” I’ve begun “The Mountain is You” and oh boy am I being faced with some hard doses of reality.  It’s been a humbling read that I’m excited to share some bits n pieces with you all in the next week.
Until next time.
Stay passionate and curious, Hunter♡

Rhys here finds it’s easier to act a man than a woman, even as an Outlaw- though it causes some Shakespearean problems when she falls in love and the woman thinks she’s a bloke. Shenanigans ensue.

La cuisine de Tasmanie
 Hobart

Not a very tropical paradise. But after a few solid days of work, Hobart’s Hideaway is getting there. A pool. hot tub and some decent dining facilitates had boosted the rating to a solid three stars. It wasn’t as attractive as Rhys wanted, but it was somthing.

TEAMS: Shock Tiger out, star returns for Hawks
• Tigers lose big-name recruit with hamstring injury • Pie bad boy to play • Hawks, Dees bring back stars as gun Don sits
RICHMOND will be without another big-name recruit for Saturday night’s clash against the Western Bulldogs, with midfielder Dion Prestia sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Check out the full round seven teams
The Tigers have been forced to make four changes, with Toby Nankervis suspended and Reece Conca (foot) injured, while Steve Morris has been dropped after just one match back in the team.
The Bulldogs have recalled defender Matthew Boyd at the expense of Bailey Dale in their only change for the crucial clash at Etihad Stadium.
In a big night of selections, Essendon has rested star Jobe Watson and No.1 pick Andrew McGrath, Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan has been named to return, and midfielder Dale Thomas has been selected by Carlton.
Collingwood has also recalled midfielder Jordan de Goey immediately after he served a club ban for lying to the Magpies about how he broke his hand ahead of the season.
Hawthorn has named Grant Birchall, Cyril Rioli and Brendan Whitecross in its extended squad for Sunday’s clash against Melbourne, with changes likely on Friday when the team is trimmed to 22.
As well as Hogan, who missed one match on compassionate leave, the Demons have named Dean Kent, Josh Wagner and Billy Stretch in their extended squad.
Midfielder Jake Melksham is the only omission at this stage for the clash at the MCG.
Greater Western Sydney has made three changes for Friday night’s clash against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium, with co-captain Phil Davis and vice-captain Stephen Coniglio returning, and defender Harrison Himmelberg named for his first game this season.
The Saints have made one forced change, calling on Nathan Wright to replace injured half-forward Maverick Weller (ankle).
Carlton has named Thomas after two weeks out of the team amid speculation he faces an uphill fight to reach a trigger clause to play on in 2018.
The Blues have also called on midfielder Sam Kerridge for his second game this season, with Zac Fisher (hamstring) and Jack Silvagni (shoulder) making way.
Collingwood has made three changes, with key tall Ben Reid and Jackson Ramsay joining De Goey in the 22, replacing Travis Varcoe (hamstring), Tim Broomhead (omitted) and Henry Schade (managed).
Premiership favourite Adelaide has named an unchanged 22 for its clash against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday.
The Kangaroos have made two changes, regaining key forward Jarrad Waite and midfielder Ryan Clarke, while choosing to manage youngster Jy Simpkin and losing Aaron Mullett to a hand injury.
Geelong has dropped ruckman Zac Smith and midfielder Sam Menegola for Saturday night’s clash against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.
The Cats have also lost Brandan Parfitt (hamstring) and Tom Stewart (omitted), recalling dangerous forward Dan Menzel, Rhys Stanley, Jackson Thurlow and rookie James Parsons.
Gold Coast has also made four changes, losing Jesse Lonergan to a shoulder injury and dropping Matt Shaw, Brayden Fiorini and Jack Bowes.
Important trio Steven May, David Swallow and Kade Kolodjashnij return, alongside debutant Brad Scheer.
Port Adelaide has made just one change for Saturday’s clash against West Coast at Adelaide Oval, regaining skipper Travis Boak for the omitted Karl Amon.
The Eagles have named an unchanged 22, with ruckman Nathan Vardy (elbow) and Liam Duggan (cork) facing fitness tests.
Sydney will be boosted by the return of veteran Jarrad McVeigh for Sunday’s clash against the Brisbane Lions at the SCG, also recalling defender Aliir Aliir.
Both have been named on the Swans’ seven-man bench alongside inclusions Dean Towers, Jordan Foote, Sam Naismith and Oliver Florent, while Harry Marsh has been brought straight into the starting 18.
The Swans lose Jeremy Laidler (achilles), Gary Rohan (concussion), Brandon Jack (omitted) and James Rose (omitted).
The Lions have made two changes at this stage, with star midfielder Dayne Beams (quad) and Tom Cutler (hamstring) forced out through injury.
Marco Paparone and Jake Barrett have been named in the starting 18, while fellow inclusions Josh Walker, Tom Bell and Josh Clayton are on the seven-man bench.
Essendon has made five changes so far for Sunday’s clash against Fremantle at Domain Stadium, with big-name omissions Watson and McGrath weakening the squad.
Ruckman Tom Bellchambers (omitted), defender Mitch Brown (ankle) and Ben McNiece (rested) also make way.
James Kelly and Matthew Leuenberger come straight back into the 18, as have Michael Hartley and Aaron Francis, with David Myers named for his first game this season.
Veteran Brent Stanton has been included on the extended bench alongside James Stewart and Kobe Mutch.
The Dockers have named Nick Suban, Cam Sutcliffe and Matt Taberner in their 25-man squad, with no changes at this stage.

So Rhys and Jasmin are hitting off... I wonder where this is going? ;) The profits from Hobart’s hideaway meant they could spruce the boat up a little, adding a garden area to the roof. I’ll do a room tour soon

Working as a chef wasn’t really doing it for Rhys, but it was paying the bils. However, reading the paper gave him an idea. There was a resort, Hobart’s Hideaway that was desperately in need of new management. It would be expensive but the reward would be immense.

Early prognosis
McGovern faces a lengthy stint on the sidelines with a hamstring injury while Jenkins, who suffered a fractured rib against Hawthorn, is now a week-to-week proposition and has been ruled out against Essendon. Thompson will have to build match fitness in the SANFL after he was a late scratching last week. First-year forward Davis has had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot and has turned his focus to returning next season. Second-year defender Tom Doedee is set to play in the SANFL this weekend after recovering from a knee injury. – Lee Gaskin

Gardiner copped a heavy cork against the Saints and hasn’t done much training yet. Christensen is the closest to a return and is hopeful of being available for round five, although the medical staff may be keen to hold him back another week. Early prognosis
Carlton expects Jacob Weitering (head) and Simon White (back) to be fit for Saturday night’s game against the Suns at Etihad Stadium. Weitering and White were injured in the Blues’ hard-fought win over Essendon. Early prognosis
De Goey’s broken knuckle has healed and, pending a surgeon’s examination, will be free to play in the VFL as he serves a club-imposed three-match suspension for initially lying about how he sustained the injury. Scharenberg sat out the second half of the VFL practice match at the weekend after copping a knock to the head. Langdon has received a series of injections in his knee and the club hopes he will start training again shortly. Sinclair is still eyeing a return in the second half of the year. – Ben Collins

Josh Green Hamstring Test Ben Howlett Hamstring 1 week Jayden Laverde Ankle 6-8 weeks David Myers* Finger 1 week Mason Redman Groin 1 week Jordan Ridley* Back 8-10 weeks Updated: Tuesday, April 11
Early prognosis
Essendon looks more likely than not to have small forward Josh Green available after missing two games with a minor hamstring strain. The Bombers are generally pretty healthy, with Ben Howlett and David Myers set for one more week on the sidelines with their injuries. The club says Myers will be available in round five, but it seems most likely he will return via the VFL after finger surgery. Essendon had some sore and battered bodies out of its loss to Carlton on Sunday in the shocking conditions but says it had a “clean sheet” from the game in terms of genuine concerns. – Callum Twomey

Early prognosis
Ainsworth was a match-eve scratching and should be fine to play this week. Swallow copped his cork late against the Hawks and should also be right to play the Blues. The lack of Suns on the injury list is something Rodney Eade hasn’t seen in his two-plus years at the club. – Michael Whiting

Early prognosis
Griffen and Setterfield will be in a moon boot for at least a fortnight before they start their rehab, while Coniglio is making slow progress from the same injury, and looks at least another month away. Early prognosis
O’Rourke, the No.2 draft pick in 2012, should return in the VFL for Box Hill on Saturday – pending a fitness test – and the midfielder may quickly come into senior contention. There were no new major injuries from the weekend, with Ryan Burton (back) and Paul Puopolo (hamstring) playing out the loss to the Gold Coast. – Marc McGowan

Early prognosis
Experienced defender Vince had a minor procedure to fix a toenail that had to be removed during last week’s game against Geelong. The Demons are hopeful the veteran will be available for the clash with the Dockers. Gawn’s injury is clearly a major blow to the club’s finals hopes and he will be difficult to replace. In better news, ex-Don Hibberd will play in the opening round of the VFL against Williamstown on Easter Monday after overcoming a lingering Achilles issue. – Ben Guthrie

Early prognosis
Thompson is available to strengthen the Roos’ defence after missing a week on a striking charge. Most interest will centre on Simpkin and Daw, to see if they can get up for the Good Friday match. Simpkin is more likely than Daw, who suffered concussion in a training mishap on game eve and didn’t travel to Hobart. North’s list could suddenly look a lot healthier in a fortnight’s time. – Marc McGowan
Player
Injury
Estimated Return
Jack Hombsch Knee 2-3 weeks Angus Monfries Hamstring 3 weeks Updated: Tuesday, April 11
Early prognosis
Hombsch is expected to start running this week, while Monfries could return for the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL for their round three game against North Adelaide on April 22. Forward Aaron Young picked up a knock to his shoulder in the Showdown and will be monitored this week. – Lee Gaskin

Early prognosis
The work Ben Griffiths is doing on the track would suggest he is ready to return from a concussion, with the Tigers’ clash against the Brisbane Lions coming 17 days after it was suffered. The Tigers are also optimistic Nick Vlastuin (concussion and a broken nose) will be cleared to play with an eight-day break. Edwards has had two weeks shave off his maximum return date since joining the rehab group one week ago. – Nathan Schmook

Jack Steven and David Armitage will be assessed at training this week. Armitage wasn’t far away from playing in last Sunday’s win against the Brisbane Lions so he would be disappointed to miss out again. – Dinny Navaratnam

Early prognosis
Kurt Tippett got through training on Tuesday and headed west to take on the Eagles with the rest of his teammates on Tuesday afternoon, in what is a huge boost for the Swans. Papley and Rohan are already in full training and probably could have played in the NEAFL this week if not for a club bye, while McVeigh and Heeney will join the main group this week, in the hope that they could be ready to play at some level in the next fortnight. The Swans could have all four back in the senior side by round six or seven if all goes to plan. In a good sign for Robinson, the midfielder has ditched his sling and was stationary kicking with teammates before training on Tuesday, as he recovers from shoulder surgery. – Adam Curley

Early prognosis
Nic Naitanui’s next month of rehabilitation will decide if he could return this season after the star ruckman was forced to pull back on his running workload due to knee soreness. In better news for the Eagles’ big men, Scott Lycett and Drew Petrie’s recovery times have shortened by about two weeks each. Small forward Willie Rioli has also had an extra week or so shaved off his comeback from hamstring tendon surgery. Tom Cole was stretching out in straight-line sprints on Monday in his bid to return via East Perth. – Travis King

The Dogs are confident Liam Picken will overcome concussion in time to face North Melbourne on Good Friday, but are less so on the fitness of Stewart Crameri. Draftee ruckman Tim English and second-year key defender Kieran Collins are both expected to play in Footscray’s VFL season opener on Friday. – Ryan Davidson

Suspensions to Hogan and Lewis hurt immensely, but importantly for Melbourne it looks like getting a few players back from injury. Hibberd is tracking along nicely and could be ready to play next week, although he may need a game or two in the VFL for conditioning purposes. Hibberd played just one JLT Community Series game and missed the entire 2016 season due to a WADA-imposed suspension. Heeney and McVeigh are running well at training, but they’re looking at a round five comeback at the earliest. Rampe has his left arm in a sling for at least the next two weeks before he can start mobility and strength work, and looks set to miss almost two months of footy, while Papley and Rohan are back to full training and should be available to play at some level in the next 2-3 weeks. – Adam Curley

Riewoldt returns, two new Lions, Freo dumps six
• Riewoldt returns after missing just one match • Cats swap ruckmen for Demons clash • Gun defenders return for the Showdown
St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt has made a stunning recovery from what first appeared to be a serious knee injury, with the key forward set to face the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Riewoldt has been named at centre-half forward in the Saints’ extended 25-man squad to take on the Lions just 12 days after his right knee buckled against Melbourne in round one.
While that injury prompted immediate fears he had suffered what could have been a career-ending injury, scans later cleared the former skipper of any structural damage.
The Saints have also named ruckman Billy Longer, exciting draftee Ben Long and small forward Jack Sinclair in their squad, with star midfielder Jack Steven (punctured lung) the only omission at this stage.
All the round three teams
The Lions are set to make at least three changes, with prized draftees Hugh McCluggage and Jarrod Berry in for their debut and young forward Josh Schache returning.
Ryan Bastinac and Ryan Harwood have been omitted, with midfielder Claye Beams and defender Liam Dawson included in the 25.
Collingwood has made two changes for its clash against Sydney, with midfielder James Aish and small forward Jarry Blair omitted.
Midfielder Levi Greenwood has been recalled just two weeks after hip surgery, with star Magpie Adam Treloar also named after intrigue this week surrounding his fitness with a shoulder concern.
Speedster Travis Varcoe returns after serving a one-week suspension.
The Swans have named debutant – their fifth of the year – Jordan Dawson, a second-year key forward from South Australia who will replace injured tall Kurt Tippett (ankle).
Ruckman Callum Sinclair and academy product Jordan Foote come into the 22, with Jeremy Laidler and Harry Cunningham omitted.
Fremantle has swung the axe, making six changes for the team to face the Western Bulldogs at Domain Stadium on Saturday.
Key defender Zac Dawson has been dropped for just the second time under coach Ross Lyon at Fremantle, with Danyle Pearce also paying the price for an 89-point loss to Port Adelaide.
Jon Griffin, Nick Suban and Cameron Sutcliffe have all been dropped as the Dockers look to the future, with young midfielder Darcy Tucker joining them.
Lyon announced earlier on Thursday that draftee Griffin Logue and midfielder Harley Balic would make their debuts as the club turns to youth at 0-2.
The Dockers have also included Hayden Crozier, Tom Sheridan, Ethan Hughes and re-listed rookie Brady Grey.
The Bulldogs have made on change, with premiership forward Toby McLean replacing injured goalkicker Stewart Crameri (hip).
Richmond has turned to tall Todd Elton for just his fifth game in six seasons to replace injured key forward Ben Griffiths (concussion) against West Coast at the MCG on Saturday.
Elton won the race for selection ahead of rookie pair Mabior Chol and Ivan Soldo, with Kamdyn McIntosh also recalled to replace Shane Edwards (hip).
The Eagles have dropped midfielder Dom Sheed, calling on wingman Lewis Jetta after one match relegated to the WAFL.
Port Adelaide and Adelaide have made one change each for Saturday night’s anticipated Showdown at Adelaide Oval.
The Power have lost defender Jack Homsch to a knee injury but welcome back midfielder Hamish Hartlett.
Adelaide has recalled defender Jake Lever but lost tall forward Josh Jenkins, who was taken to hospital in round two but later cleared of any structural damage to his ribs or internal organs.
Geelong has made four changes for its clash against Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with ruckman Zac Smith replacing Rhys Stanley after the Cats’ conceded ruck contests against North Melbourne in round two.
Cameron Guthrie also returns after missing the opening two matches with a calf injury, with rookie James Parsons in for his debut and Sam Menegola in for his first game of the season.
Stanley and Darcy Lang have been omitted, while round-two hero George Horlin-Smith has a hand injury and Josh Cowan is being ‘managed’.
With influential pair Jordan Lewis and Jesse Hogan suspended, the Demons have made one additional change, dropping young midfielder Angus Brayshaw.
Half-back Bernie Vince returns from suspension, while Dean Kent and rookie tall Tom Smith, who is making his debut, earn their first chances for 2017.
Greater Western Sydney has named an unchanged line-up to take on North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, choosing not to recall tall forward Jon Patton from a hip injury.
The Kangaroos regain gun ruckman Todd Goldstein and will also go in with big man Braydon Preuss to tackle influential Giants’ ruckman Shane Mumford.
Young tall Sam Durdin has been named to make his debut, with veteran defender Scott Thompson (suspended) and Jy Simpkin (quad) making way.
Gold Coast and Hawthorn have each made at least one change ahead of Sunday’s clash at Metricon Stadium on Sunday, with the Suns dropping Callum Ah Chee.
Jarrod Harbrow, Brandon Matera, Jesse Lonergan and Brayden Fiorini have been included in their 25-man squad.
The Hawks, who lost defender Grant Birchall to a jaw injury, have named all four inclusions – Brendon Whitecross, Kaiden Brand, Billy Hartung and James Sicily – on their seven-man bench.
Carlton has axed leadership member Dennis Armfield for Sunday’s clash against Essendon at the MCG, recalling midfielder Sam Kerridge, who has been named in the starting 18.
Potential inclusions Rhys Palmer, Tom Williamson and Harry McKay have been named on the extended bench, which will be trimmed on Friday afternoon.
Essendon has lost defender Michael Hartley (omitted) and midfielder Ben Howlett (hamstring), naming five potential inclusions.
Ruckman Matthew Leuenberger returns, with midfielder Heath Hocking and forward Mitch Brown also named in the starting 18.
Defender Matt Dea and former GWS forward James Stewart have been named on the seven-man bench.

Brown and Daw fit to take on Giants
Dusty’s helmet, Lewis’ remorse, Fyfe’s contract The Footy Feed team with all the latest news
NORTH Melbourne has received a boost ahead of Saturday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney, with Ben Brown and Majak Daw both passed fit to play.
Brown (knee) and Daw (ankle) had scans on Monday after pulling up sore from North’s one-point loss to Geelong.
But AFL.com.au understands both key forwards have escaped injury and are expected to be available to take on the Giants at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena.
North will also regain Todd Goldstein for Saturday’s game, with the ruckman overcoming the minor ankle injury that sidelined him against the Cats.
The Kangaroos will be without Scott Thompson against GWS, with the veteran defender accepting a one-week suspension on Tuesday for striking Patrick Dangerfield.
Ruckman Brayden Preuss will be available, however, after he accepted a $1000 fine for rough conduct against Jackson Thurlow, which could present the Roos with a selection dilemma.
Preuss was dropped after making his debut against West Coast in round one, but earned a reprieve when Goldstein was a late withdrawal from last Sunday’s loss to the Cats.
The former rookie dominated the ruck contests against Geelong, winning 46 hit-outs against a combined 21 from Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs, and also had 13 disposals, four marks and five tackles in a highly encouraging display.
With Goldstein returning, the Kangaroos will likely drop one of Preuss and Daw.
Daw (four contested marks and one goal) also performed well against Geelong and could get the nod over Preuss as the Roos’ support ruckman given he is a more natural forward.
Thompson’s suspension could open the door for Ed Vickers-Willis or Sam Durdin to debut against the Giants.

That aside, the Bombers remain in a good position with the health of their list. Ruck pair Matthew Leuenberger (hamstring) and Tom Bellchambers (knee) are available after recovering from their injuries, giving the Bombers close to a full side to select from. – Callum Twomey

Hibberd played just one JLT Community Series game and missed the entire 2016 season due to a WADA-imposed suspension. Nick Riewoldt is unlikely to face the Brisbane Lions on Sunday but if he responds well to an increased training load, a return isn’t out of the question. Tippett won’t play Friday night and with a round four clash against West Coast on Thursday week, the Swans are hopeful he’ll be available, but the short turnaround might hurt him.
