Y llyfr heddiw yw 'The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes' gan Zoë Playdon, a gyhoeddwyd yn 2021.
Hanes y dyn traws Albanaidd Ewan Forbes yw'r llyfr hwn. Roedd Forbes yn fab i John Forbes-Sempill, 9fed Barwnig Craigievar ac yn frawd i William Forbes-Sempill, 10fed Barwnig Craigievar. Bu farw ei frawd ym 1965, felly roedd Ewan yn llinell ar fin etifeddu’r farwnigaeth, ond heriodd ei gefnder ef am y farwnigaeth yn 1968 oherwydd bod Forbes yn ddyn traws. Creodd Forbes ddogfennau meddygol ffug i ddangos ei fod yn rhyngryw - i newid ei gofrestriad genedigaeth o fenyw i wryw. Yn ei amser, roedd yn amhosibl newid cofrestriad genedigaeth heb honni i fod yn rhyngryw, felly nid oedd gan Forbes unrhyw dewis arall.
Mae'r llyfr yn bwysig iawn i hanes traws ym Mhrydain ac yn ddiddorol iawn imi fel dyn traws yn y DU.
Ydych chi wedi darllen y llyfr hwn?

Today's book is 'The Hidden Case of Ewan Forbes' by Zoë Playdon, published in 2021.
This book is the story of Scottish trans man Ewan Forbes. Forbes was the son of John Forbes-Sempill, 9th Baronet Craigievar and the brother of William Forbes-Sempill, 10th Baronet Craigievar. His brother died in 1965, so Ewan was then next in line to inherit the baronetcy, but his cousin challenged him for it in 1968 because Forbes was a trans man. Forbes created fake medical documents to show he was intersex - to change his birth registration from female to male. It was impossible to change a birth registration without claiming to be intersex in his time, so Forbes had no other choice.
The book is very important to trans history in Britain and very interesting to me as a trans man in the UK.

Noswaith dda - would any of my intersex followers be willing to provide some feedback about an art concept I'm considering making? I'm incorporating some text from a historical document into some queer art and I wanted to run it by some intersex people if at all possible since I'm perisex. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Diwrnod Coffa Rhyngryw / Intersex Day of Remembrance
Mae Diwrnod Coffa Rhyngryw yn ddiwrnod i gofio pobl ryngryw sy'n cael llawdriniaeth heb ganiatâd. Mae plant rhyngryw yn aml yn cael llawdriniaeth yn ifanc. Mae hwn yn broblem fawr sr gyfer y gymuned ryngryw ac mae llawer o bobl yn erbyn anffurfio organau cenhedlu rhyngryw.

Intersex Day of Remembrance is a day to remember intersex people who have undergone surgery without their consent. Intersex children frequently have surgeries performed on them at a young age. This is a big problem for the intersex community and many people are opposed to the practice of intersex genital mutilation.
For more information and support, see Organization Intersex International.

Intersex people are people with an ambiguous sex. The intersex community is diverse with lots of different experiences. Some intersex people are also transgender or nonbinary.

Mis Hanes LHDT+ 2023 : Gair y Dydd #5 -Rhyngryw
LGBT+ History Month 2023: Word of the day #5 - Intersex
Rhyngryw
(adj. Intersex)
Rhyngryw is a relatively new term in Welsh. It translates to 'between sex' and is a Welsh localisation of the English term Intersex (which only became popularised itself in English around the mid-to-late 90s).
The previous terms for Intersex in Welsh were, like in English, slurs (e.g. hermaphrodite) or archaic (e.g. bi-sexual). This post is about the history of Rhyngryw, but if you're interested in general Welsh Intersex terminology history I'd recommend reading my blog here.
The term Rhyngryw hasn't appeared in any Welsh dictionary before (that I'm aware of, my records go up to 2018). Therefore to discover the history of Rhyngryw, we must try a different approach.
The first term for intersex in Welsh which isn't a variation of deuryw or hermaffrodit is cymysgryw (literally 'mixed sex'), in Geiriadur Termau from 1973. However, it doesn't seem like this term caught on.
Using boolean commands in a Google search for "Rhyngryw" yields the Wicipedia page for Rhyngryw, created on the 13th September 2007. As of December 2007, the page looked like this:
It uses the term Rhyngrywioldeb (intersexuality). The title of the Wicipedia page wasn't changed until 2021 to Rhyngryw.
Despite the absence of a long history for Rhyngryw, we can estimate that around 2006-2008 the term may have originated. Webster's Welsh-English Thesaurus Dictionary in 2008 gave Anrywiol as a term to mean intersex. Anrywiol ordinarily means asexual, but it is possible that in 2006-2008, attempts were made to move away from older archaic or offensive terminology to a new term. It's possible anrywiol was one of those attempts, but rhyngryw, whenever it originated originally, won out in the end.

Today marks Intersex day of Remembrance. It is a day first observed in 2005 to commemorate the birthday of 1800s French intersex author Herculine Barbin. The term for intersex in Welsh is Rhyngryw.

Mis Hanes LHDT+ 2023 : Gair y Dydd #7 -Cwiar/Cadi
LGBT+ History Month 2023: Word of the day #7 -Queer
Cwiar
(adj. Queer)
Much like Rhyngryw, Cwiar does not appear in any Welsh dictionaries (at least, so far). Cwiar is sometimes written as Cwiyr, or, some prefer to reclaim the term Cadi (a term used as a pejorative similar to how queer is used in English).
Oddly, a Catalan-Welsh website preserves 'cadi-ffan' (a variation on Cadi), from 2000.
The Stonewall Cymru glossary from 2016 uses the spelling Cwiar. While Cwiyr appears only sporadically online.
Sadly, linkrot and poorly archived websites have eroded what digital evidence remains for these terms online.
Do you have any print material using these terms? I'd be delighted to compare notes if so!
