I bought a set of five pre-spread Butterflies off of Etsy, and they’re much more beautiful than I was expecting!! I don’t know why they’re labeled as “Common species” though, because I’ve never seen any of these where I live. I put them in with the Cicadas that I mounted myself ^^
Remember when I said I prefer to find already dead bugs around my yard? Well I’ve had no luck, especially with Butterflies. Every time I find a dead one, either the scales are ruined by the sun, they’re torn up, or Ants have already gotten to it. Finding a live one and euthanizing it is definitely not an option either. Seeing one fly around where I am is very rare, and I’d rather leave them be. Plus, most of the species I like are from other states/countries. So from now on, I’m going to be getting them online.
I plan on buying the mounting kit from the same seller I bought these butterflies from. I’m SO glad I found this seller, because everywhere else was wanting $40+ for just a board, tweezers, pins, and killing jar. And that’s not including the shipping cost! Instead, the person I’m going to buy a kit from is selling it for just $28 plus a little for shipping and it has SO much more stuff included! They also sell bugs for a lot less than other places too.
Also, the seller got the butterflies from a mixbag themselves, so they couldn’t label them. I was able to find out after some research, thankfully! From left to right, starting from the first row: Dark Lyric Cicada, Eastern Scissor Grinder Cicada,
Row 2: Redspot Sawtooth (Prioneris clemanthe), Common Bluebottle (Graphium sarpedon) (my personal fave btw)
Row 3: Wizard Butterfly (Rhinopalpa polynice), Popinjay (Stibochiona nicea) And lastly, a Yellow Glassy Tiger (Parantica aspasia).
Anyway I’m very happy with these <3
