Out of 100 coconut palms planted and diligently protected, I’m still down to only 6 thanks to the rhinoceros beetles borrowing and eating their core. I’m still waiting for a suitable predator to come along and help manage these super destructive pests. I guess this means I have room to plant yet another tree. So much for my dreams of bathing in coconut oil 😒 ・・・ #growninhaiti #pests #rhinoceroshornbeetle #coconutpalm #wtf #keepplanting #staymotivated #agroforestry #nopesticides #youwinsomeyoulosesome #balance #haiti #ayiti #foodforest https://www.instagram.com/p/CB5vlyYFoEa/?igshid=ind2ez8j2k2x

I know a few people that may be brave enough to try these. Did you know that there are over 344 grub species consumed around the globe, including the witchetty grub in Australia, palm weevil grubs in some Asian countries, giant water bugs in North America, and mopane worms in Africa. Some of them are small and crunchy, like mealworms, and some are fat and juicy, like these rhinoceros beetle larva. What would it take for you to throw one of these on a grill or better yet, eat them raw? ・・・ #growninhaiti #rhinoceroshornbeetle #grub #edible #haiti #ayiti #biodiversity #decomposers #foodforest #agroforestry #survivalfood #delicacy #nopesticides #protein https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ig21XFgaP/?igshid=6cb9hilkrruh
