Kittens and Bugs
→ Description: Rhett gets a kitten for his little 💕 🧸
→ c/w: age regression.
→ a/n: no use of y/n, no pronouns, just nicknames
Animals finding their way onto the Abbott Ranch was nothing new. Usually, it was dogs, which Royal either fostered until they found the owner or trained them to help with herding. What was new was Rhett heading out into the early hours of the morning and hearing a meek little mewl under the porch stairs.
He paused, frowning in the direction of the sound until he heard it again, crouching down to look under the stairs and reach out for the tiny little kitten that seemed to be having trouble getting itself out of a rut in the dirt. He made sure to pull on his work gloves before he grabbed the small animal, just in case it decided to bite, but it wasn't long before he was brushing the dirt off and bringing it into his plaid-covered chest. "Bug?" He calls out, "Can you come out here for a sec?"
You wander out onto the porch, rubbing at your eyes, wearing one of Rhett's t-shirts and a pair of his ratty old boxers. You always felt little in the morning and Rhett knew that, so he made sure to address you by your special nickname. You were Rhett's little bug.
"Look who I found." Rhett smiles, holding the squirming little kitten tight enough that it wouldn't get away.
You gasp excitedly, suddenly awake. "A kitty!! Can we keep him daddy? Please, please, please?" You beg, rocking on the balls of your feet.
"You read my mind, bugs." Rhett chuckles. I think he needs a friend, don't you?" He has no idea if the kitten was a boy or girl, but he was happy to go along with you, as usual.
"Uh-huh, I'll be his friend," You nod, crouching down with Rhett to take the kitten from him.
"Careful, sweetheart, he's still a bit skittish," Rhett warns; he was apprehensive, but the kitten hadn't bit him, so he felt okay handing the small thing off to you. "Be gentle,"
"I'm gentle, Daddy, I promise," You assure, bringing the kitten into your chest and kissing his head without a second thought. Rhett makes a small noise like he might try to stop the action, but it's over before he can.
"What're you gonna name 'em?"
"Goose!" You shout, with a happy little giggle.
Rhett nods with a smile. "That's a great choice. Now I got my bug and my goose," He says, wrapping an arm around you and kissing your forehead.
(This was inspired by @sebsxphia I adore your agere stuff 🥰)

notes: big thank you to @lovinglyeternal for putting me onto the rhett calling you ‘pumpkin seed’ agenda. also to @bradshawsbitch for helping me brainstorm for this piece. luh you babies 💓
Rhett had never known true peace until he met you.
Peace was just something he never thought he’d find. Nor was it something he’d ever really experienced. The Abbott household was not a place of serenity. He had never felt at ease within those four walls a day in his life.
He felt like he didn’t belong, like he didn’t have a purpose. His mother had her religion. His father had the land. Perry had his family. But Rhett? All Rhett had was bull riding. He had no identity or purpose outside of that.
That is, until you walked into his life.
It started gradually, at first. The realization that he was interested in you, and that you shared that interest. Asking you on your first date. Kissing you on your doorstep as he dropped you off for the night. But as time went on, his feelings for you grew.
The fondness he had soon turned into love. And the realization that he loved you hit him like a ton of bricks to the chest. It sucked the breath out of his lungs and made his head spin. It nearly drove him to his knees.
But that wasn’t what brought him to a place of peace. Of course, loving you did provide that for him. But there was something else. Something so special, so sacred, that only he was privy to.
When you had initially brought up the concept of your age regression, you had been terrified. Not because Rhett scared you, because he didn’t. You felt so very safe around him. No, you were scared because you loved him so much and you were afraid he wouldn’t understand. Afraid he wouldn’t want to be with you any longer once he learned about this part of you.
He had taken everything else well. When it came to your sexual escapades, he’d been on board with everything you’d thrown at him. You had begun developing a solid dominant and submissive relationship, and it was flourishing.
But this was different. There was nothing sexual about your regression. It was pure and innocent. A way for you to let go of any and all stressors and reconnect with that childish part of yourself that you had repressed for far too long. Being forced to grow up too fast did that to a person.
You had kept it hidden from Rhett. Not to keep secrets from him, but to protect yourself, because you knew your heart couldn’t handle losing him if he didn’t want to deal with your regression.
However, you knew that you had to tell him. It was such a big part of who you were, and not being able to share it with him was doing more harm than good. So, one day you finally gathered up the courage to sit him down and talk it through.
He didn’t react as you were explaining it. He simply listened very intently, his blue gaze trained on you, unwavering. And once you were finished with your explanation, he nodded thoughtfully.
“And this is somethin’ that…helps you?” He asked, reiterating what you’d said.
You nodded. “Yes. It’s a huge stress reliever,” you replied. “If…if this is a deal breaker for you, I understand. It’s a lot to take in.”
Rhett shook his head. “It ain’t a deal breaker. Far from it. I’ve never heard of regression before. But if it helps you then I’m willing to do whatever you need me to do. I’ll give it a shot, I don’t see what it could hurt. ‘sides, I already know I love takin’ care of you. I don’t see how this could be much different.”
Just the fact that he was willing to try filled you with so much joy. All that anxiety you’d had about telling him melted away, replaced with a comforting warmth that blossomed in your chest.
And that was how it began. Rhett assumed the role of your caregiver. It was rather adorable to witness. He was so concerned about doing the very best job he could. He had many questions, and even went as far as to write your answers down in a little composition pad he kept in the front pocket of his shirt.
You explained everything in detail, and remained open and honest about what you needed from him. He pledged to take good care of you, and you had no doubt that he would.
The first time you regressed with him was a wonderful, serene moment. You felt safe and at ease, and had no problem slipping into that little mindset. Rhett watched in awe, finding himself enamored.
It was through becoming your caregiver that he found that long sought after peace. He realized that this was his purpose in life. Looking after you was what he was always meant to do. And once he came to that conclusion, everything else clicked into place.
You developed a very deep, unshakable bond. A dynamic so full of love and care. You had never felt so safe and protected before. You could fully be yourself with Rhett and he never judged you. He allowed you to be as small as you needed, and he was always there to look out for you.
He became the best caregiver you ever could’ve asked for. You were able to flourish as a little under his watchful eye. Gone were the days of hiding your regression. You allowed yourself to fully relax and trust in his tender, loving care.
Along with that came a fierce protectiveness that Rhett felt toward you. He cherished your special dynamic, and he would move mountains just to make sure that you could safely regress.
You knew you could call for him at any time, and he would rush to your aid. You tried your best to leave him be while he was working. But sometimes, there were days when you needed him. After you’d tried everything to soothe yourself, you would send him a text asking when he would be home.
He always knew you were feeling little based on the amount of emojis you used.
hiya daddy! i know you’re busy working but do you know when you’ll be home, perhaps? 🥺💓😚💞☺️💕
It didn’t matter what he was doing. When he got that notification, he would stop everything to answer. Rhett was not one to use emojis, but for you, he always made an exception.
I’ll be home soon, pumpkin seed 😘❤️
And you would try your best to let it be. But if you knew you were slipping in a bad way, and you needed him to come and look after you, you would press him further.
how soon? feeling real little in a bad way 🥺💓
That was all you had to say. If he was able to drop whatever he was doing in an instant, he would, assuring you he was on his way. To him, there was nothing more important than taking care of you.
He would return to you and guide you through what you were feeling. And as you tearfully apologized for pulling him away from work, he would tell you not to “worry your pretty little head about it”, because he never wanted you to feel like a burden for needing his care. He had pledged to you that he would be the best caregiver he could be, and he intended to fulfill that promise.
Up until this point, he had always been close by. Even when he was working, whether it be on your own property or on his parents’, he was always a text or a phone call away. You could access him whenever you needed him.
But there soon came a moment in time when he had to be away from you. It was an unavoidable circumstance. There was an issue with a shipment of livestock, and he needed to head across state lines with his father to take care of it.
Rhett wasn’t sure how long he would be gone. Since entering into this special relationship, you had never been apart for more than a day. The thought of leaving you made anxiety twist in his chest.
It wasn’t that he thought you were incapable of taking care of yourself. He knew that when you needed to, you were more than able to make adult decisions and look after yourself. You were not an invalid. However, you had come to find such comfort in his care, and he was worried about leaving you all alone.
He very gently brought it up to you when he got home that night. “Bunny…I need t’ talk to you,” he spoke up after you’d finished dinner. You were snuggled up on the couch with him, your feet resting in his lap, his large hand placed delicately over your ankles.
Your eyes flickered to his, and you saw his serious expression. It made your stomach drop. “About what?” You softly asked.
“I, uh, I found out I’ve gotta leave town for a bit. Dad’s got a new cattle shipment comin’ in and there’s a problem. He wants me to go with him tomorrow to deal with it.”
Your brow furrowed. “Okay. How long?”
“I dunno. Could be a day or two. Could be a whole week. Just depends on how quickly we can resolve the issue. I really, really don’t wanna leave you. But I’ve got no choice.”
You nodded, chewing at your bottom lip thoughtfully. “It’s okay. I know you’ll be back as soon as you can.”
“I will. I just don’t like the thought of leavin’ you all alone. And I’d have ya stay with my ma and Amy, but somebody needs to be here to look after the property. Can you handle it? I don’t want you gettin’ overwhelmed and spiraling while I’m gone.” He knew you all too well.
“No, I’ll be okay. I’ll just make a to do list so I can keep track of everything,” you replied with a hopeful smile. He could see that you were trying to remain positive for him. Truthfully, the idea of being all alone in this big house for days at a time was a little scary. You had your work, training horses, to occupy you, but there would still be those moments in which you were alone in your silence. It was daunting.
But you didn’t want Rhett to worry. You could already see the concern in his eyes. He hated that he had to do this. If he could bring you along, he would. But he didn’t want you getting pulled into the mess. And he also knew that Royal would likely be pissed at Rhett for bringing his girlfriend on such a trip. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with his father’s irritation. Besides, he knew you felt most comfortable at home. He didn’t want to pull you away from it unless it was absolutely necessary.
“Y’ sure?”
“I’m sure. I’ll miss you lots, but I’ll be fine,” you assured him. And you would be.
He hummed, nodding his head. “I’ll have Perry check on you while I’m gone. Y’ know how he is, but he at least cares about your well-being. And if I put Amy onto it then she won’t leave her dad alone and he’ll have no choice but to bring her over here so she can say hi.”
You smiled at that. Rhett’s niece had grown quite fond of you, and you, her. She was always up for a trip to Uncle Rhett’s, mainly so she could see you and go on trail rides with you and Rhett.
“Okay. I’ll be leavin’ tomorrow morning. I’ll get your breakfast ready and then I’ll be on my way. I’ll make sure everything’s in order before I do, though.”
You smiled, leaning in closer to him. “It’ll just be a few days, right? I can be a big girl for that long. I’ll make you so proud, Daddy.”
He mirrored your smile, lifting his hand to cup your cheek. “I know you will, punkin’ seed.” The nickname made you smile. His pronunciation of pumpkin was the cutest thing you’d ever heard, and you loved it when he called you that.
It was settled then. Rhett would be leaving the next morning. In the meantime, he spent the evening getting everything ready. Packing a duffel of things he’d need, making a list of things for you to take care of so you wouldn’t get overwhelmed and forget what you needed to do, even going as far as to make you a couple jars of overnight oats so you’d have breakfast for the next few days and wouldn’t have to worry about making it.
While he was downstairs getting everything ready, you took the time to secretly slip one of your rabbit stuffies into his bag, with a little note that said “bunny is always with you :)”. Bunny was another nickname he’d dubbed you, which he called you when you were feeling particularly little. You knew finding the bunny in his bag would bring a smile to his face.
By the time he was finished getting everything situated, you’d already climbed into bed, and you were waiting for him, snuggled up in bed. That night, he held you close and whispered a made up story to you to help you drift off to sleep. And it seemed that all was well. You were prepared for him to leave the following day, and you were convinced that you could handle his absence.
That is, until you woke up that morning, and it all spiraled out of control.
You knew it was going to be difficult from the moment you opened your eyes. Rhett was already up and about, leaving you feeling particularly alone and small in the large bed you shared. For a frightening moment, you thought he’d already left without saying goodbye, and it set the tone for how the entire morning was going to go.
You didn’t mean to panic. Really, you knew you were being irrational. But it hit you out of the blue, and you immediately sprang from the bed, rushing out of the bedroom and down the stairs.
“Daddy?!” You called out, your tone slightly panicked. You stopped in the kitchen. He wasn’t there. You looked in the living room. It was empty. “Daddy!” Your voice was louder and more frantic now.
Tears welled in your eyes, and a terrible sadness creeped into your chest. He’d really left without saying goodbye? The thought hurt more than you could describe, and in an instant, you began to cry. Hot tears burned their way down your cheeks, and soft sobs that caused your shoulders to tremble left your mouth.
Little did you know that Rhett had only stepped outside for a moment to toss his bag in the truck. He was heading back to the house, planning to wake you up gently and sit with you while you ate your breakfast. However, when he stepped through the front door, he was met with the sound of crying.
He was instantly on high alert, his feet carrying him right to the sound. He found you standing in the middle of the living room, sniffling and whimpering.
“Hey, hey. What’s the matter, little bun?” He softly called.
You gasped, whirling around to find him standing there. “D-Daddy,” you squeaked before you threw yourself into his arms. Through your sobs, he was able to make out the words, “I-I thought yo-you left without saying goodbye!”
His arms tightened around you, and he hummed lowly. “Oh, baby. I’d never do that to you. Never, ever.” He pulled you back to look at your tearful face. “I’ll always say goodbye. No matter if I’m leavin’ for fifteen minutes, or fifteen days. Alright?”
Sniffling, you nodded. “Al-alright.”
He lovingly wiped your tears away. “I’m sorry I scared’ya. I didn’t think you’d wake up. Next time I’ll make sure you know where I am.”
You tearfully thanked him, and he pulled you back in to press a kiss to the top of your head. “C’mon, let’s get some food in you before I have to leave.”
He led you back to the kitchen, making sure you were seated at the table as he got your breakfast ready. You tried to remain upbeat, but after your initial moment of panic, you were feeling all wrong.
You could feel yourself beginning to slip. All you wanted was to be little and have Daddy take care of you, but you knew he couldn’t. You needed to be a big girl and let him leave. But in this state of mind, you were only growing more upset. He was leaving and you were scared. Scared to be alone, in this great big house. Scared to sleep by yourself in the bed, and listen to the creeping nightlife outside.
It came out of your mouth before you could stop yourself. “Don’t leave me, Daddy! Please, I’ll be good, I’ll do whatever you wan’ me to!”
He was just setting down your plate in front of you when you said it. You gasped and placed your hand over your mouth. “Oh! I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have said that,” you exclaimed. More tears welled in your eyes.
Rhett took a breath before he knelt in front of you. “Sweet baby, you know I’d drop everything and stay with you instead if I could. It kills me to leave you, but I have to. I understand that you’re feelin’ scared and sad, but I need you to be brave for me. Can you do that?”
Tearfully, you nodded. “I can. I can be a big girl. I’m sorry I said that. I know you’ve gotta leave, Daddy. I’m just really gonna miss you.”
He brushed a stray tear away from your cheek. You noticed his own eyes had grown misty. “You can be a big girl. How do I know that? Because you do it all the time. You show me everyday how brave you are by training those horses the way you do. So I just need you to keep bein’ brave like that until Daddy gets back.”
You forced a smile. “I’ll be brave for you.”
“Atta bunny.” He tapped your nose. “Now eat your breakfast.”
You managed to pull yourself together long enough to eat your food, even though you weren’t particularly hungry. And by the time you were finished, it was time for Rhett to leave.
He held you in his arms, standing in the entryway of your home, knowing that once he stepped over that threshold and headed down the porch steps, it would make the goodbye final.
It wasn’t as if he was leaving for a long period of time, but because he’d never left you before, it was particularly hard. Especially because you were upset and he couldn’t fix it. He was always the one who kissed your tears away. Now he was the one inadvertently causing them, and it hurt like hell.
“I’ll see you soon, punkin’ seed. I’ll text you when I’m on the road. And I’ll call you when I can.” He kissed your head before leaning in to kiss your lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” you replied in earnest.
Then, with one more kiss to your forehead, Rhett was gone, slipping away and heading out the door. You stood in the doorway and waved until his truck disappeared down the lane. And then, you cried.
But life had to go on. There were things to take care of. Horses to exercise. So, you dried your tears and threw yourself into your work.
Ultimately, it was the only thing that got you through his absence. As it would turn out, Rhett ended up being gone for an entire week. His absence weighed heavily on you both, but you put on a brave face.
You went about your normal chores, such as feeding the animals, tending to your flower garden, and working with the horses. Perry came over a few times during the week to tend to the landscape. Of course, he had Amy in tow. Her bubbly demeanor lifted your spirits, and you were happy for the distraction.
She was the only good thing that had come out of Perry and Rebecca’s marriage. She was also the main reason Rhett chose to remain civil with his brother. His relationship with Perry was rocky at best, and had only grown more so in the last few years after Rebecca had disappeared.
Rhett didn’t fully trust his brother. In fact, he’d even gone so far as to keep him at arm’s length around you specifically. He had his reasons for doing that. One of them being that he suspected that Perry was jealous. He’d lost Rebecca, and not long after, Rhett had found you. Perry would never admit it, but he deeply envied Rhett’s happiness, and almost resented him for it. Rhett knew what Perry was capable of. He was known for his blackout temper, which Rhett had been on the receiving end of many times growing up. And although the elder Abbott had never once directed any of that temper toward you, Rhett was still protective, and wanted to see to it that you never witnessed that rage.
However, despite all of that, Rhett had entrusted him with checking in on you, or rather, the homestead, while he was gone. He figured his brother could at least handle that, because no matter what, he did know how to look after a ranch, thanks to his upbringing.
Even so, Rhett knew Perry wouldn’t look after you the way he could. No one else could do that job. You had deemed only Rhett worthy of it, because he was the only man in the entire world that you felt truly, deeply safe with.
And every second he was gone, you missed that safety more and more. You had grown so accustomed to his presence that being without him felt foreign, as if a very important part of yourself was missing. An entire limb. Half of your heart. Part of your soul.
He texted you every morning and every night. He called you when he could. He was exhausted, you could tell. What should have been a quick trip had turned into an entire ordeal. It was a problem on the shipping company’s part, and Rhett and his father were shouldering the headache they’d caused.
“I miss you so much, punkin’ seed,” he confessed to you one night, weariness evident in his voice. “Feel terrible that I’ve gotta be away from you for so long. Just wanna…just wanna hold you in my arms.”
You knew what he needed. He needed reassurance. There was a part of himself that was afraid. Afraid he’d lose you. And maybe it was indeed an irrational fear, but he couldn’t help it. Everyone before you had walked away from him. He knew you wouldn’t do such a thing, but he still carried that fear around from having his heart ripped out of his chest one too many times.
He had never experienced a love like yours and the thought of losing that was unfathomable. It was a good thing you knew exactly how to soothe him.
“I miss you too, Daddy. I’m here waiting for you to get back. I can’t wait to snuggle up with you and listen to you tell me all about your trip.”
He hummed lowly. “An’ I can’t wait to hear you tell me about all your big girl adventures. You been gettin’ along alright?”
“I have been. But it isn’t the same without you. The house feels empty. And I can’t be little because I don’t wanna do it without you here to look after me. So I’ve just been…hanging out.”
Rhett’s chest ached. He knew how much regressing helped you calm down when you were feeling anxious. The fact that you were unable to do it made him wish all the more that he could be there to help. “I’m hoping it’ll just be another day or two. Then I’ll be back home.”
“And I can’t wait. I miss my daddy.”
He hesitated for a moment before he said, “I know you can’t be little right now, but…would you like me to tell you a bedtime story to help you fall asleep?”
He knew all too well how uneasy you were at night, and the thought of his soothing voice detailing one of his notorious made up stories sounded wonderfully appealing. “Yes please.”
And so he did. You drifted off into a peaceful sleep to the sound of a love story about a horse trainer and a bull rider.
The next few days were difficult. You missed Rhett terribly, and he was so busy that he barely had time to text you throughout the day. He was unable to call you one night, because by the time he had a free moment, it was much too late, and he knew you would already be asleep. Little did he know that you’d cried yourself to sleep because you missed him so.
However, luckily for you, by the week’s end, he was finally coming home. You couldn’t wipe the smile off your face when you received his text that he’d be home the very next morning. You were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. Soon, everything would be as it should be. Your Rhett was returning home, where he belonged.
In your excitement, you decided to clean the house and make everything sparkle so that he would have a clean house to come back to. He didn’t expect you to do that, of course, but you wanted to welcome him into a calming atmosphere after the tough week he’d had.
You knew that once he returned, you would likely end up going into little space. So, while you were still feeling capable and big, you took the liberty of making his favorite for dinner ahead of time.
By the time you tended to all your chores, visited the horses, made dinner, and cleaned the house, it was evening. And it was while you were setting the table that you saw the flash of headlights in the window, and you knew he was finally home.
With a gasp, you dropped the fork you were holding, letting it clatter to the table as you made a dash for the front door. You flung it open and threw yourself outside, just as Rhett was climbing out of the truck. You ran at him at full speed, and he instantly dropped his duffel bag in the dirt before he met you halfway, catching you as you launched yourself into his arms.
“Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!” You exclaimed, giggling musically as he spun you around.
He mirrored your laugh, squeezing you tightly to him. “Ohh, there’s my little punkin’ seed. Missed y’ so much,” he gushed.
You leaned back, reaching up to hold his face in your hands. “Missed you too!” You echoed. You let him bend to pick up his bag before you linked your arm with his and began to lead him up to the house. “I did so much while you were gone! Had so many big girl adventures! I fed all the chickens and got the eggs and I fed the cows and I taught some new things to the horses, and I planted new flowers! You have to see them, they’re so pretty!”
You babbled on and on about everything you had done as you led him into the house. Rhett just listened with a smile on his face, enamored with your enthusiasm.
But as you made it into the house, you finally took a breath. “Oh! Here I am talking all about myself. How was the drive home?! Did you get all the issues sorted out with the shipment? Are you tired? You probably are and here I am just babbling on!”
When you looked at Rhett, he was grinning. He pulled you in close and kissed you on the top of the head. “God, I really did miss you, little bun.”
You happily nuzzled into him. “I missed you too, Daddy. A whole lot.” Your voice wavered, and suddenly, you were overcome with emotion.
When he saw the tears glimmering in your eyes, he hummed and pulled you in close, enveloping you in his strong arms. “You’re okay, little’n. Daddy’s here.”
Little’n. Yet another nickname of his for you. One that was so special and sweet. It made your heart sing.
When you pulled back, he kissed your tears away, large hands holding your face. He smiled down at you, and you managed to return that smile.
“I made dinner for you. Thought you might be hungry when you got back,” you murmured.
“Really? You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to. You always take such good care of me. I figured I could return the favor.”
Another kiss was pressed to the top of your head. “How’d I get so lucky to have ya?” He hugged you close again before he continued. “I’m gon’ go take a shower and wash all the grime off. I’ll be right back, punkin’ seed. Okay?”
“Okay,” you replied with a hum.
He slipped away to head upstairs, and while he was in the shower, you got dinner on the table. You were so happy he was home that you had a smile on your face the entire time you got things prepped.
By the time he was coming down the stairs, hair damp, dressed in sweats and an old rodeo t-shirt, you had everything ready. You beamed at him as he stepped into the kitchen, waiting eagerly at the table as he approached.
He leaned down to kiss you before he took a seat across from you. “Looks real good, little’n. I’m starvin’. Haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
You gasped softly. “Oh! Well let’s eat before you waste away to nothing!” You exclaimed.
So your dinner commenced. As you ate, Rhett filled you in on all that had taken place while he was away. You could tell how relieved he was to be home. The trip had been one headache after another, and the entire time he spoke, he kept reiterating how much he’d missed you and your tenderness.
He held your hand across the table and told you how much he loved you. There was a sincerity burning brightly in his eyes, and it was so intense you had to fight the urge to avert your gaze. It hit you hard just how much he cared for you. You loved him equally as deep.
“I’m sorry you had such a rough trip,” you sympathized. “But I’m happy you’re home safe.”
“Me too,” he replied. “Seems like you got in alright while I was gone.”
You shrugged. “I survived. But it wasn’t the same without my daddy.”
He lifted your hand to his mouth, kissing your knuckles. “I’m so proud of you, punkin’ seed.”
His praise warmed you from the inside out, like a sip of a hot drink on a cold day. You hummed and melted on the spot, and Rhett smiled fondly at you.
“Tell you what. I’m exhausted, and you’ve had a long week takin’ care of things on your own. What d’ya say we save cleaning up the kitchen for tomorrow and just spend the night with each other?”
You nodded happily. “And…I can be little?”
His eyes twinkled. “You can, if you wanna. Or, if you wanna be big, that’s okay too. Just as long as I get to spend time with my favorite gal, I’m all good.”
A strong sense of all-consuming relief began to wash over you. You felt tears welling in your eyes, and you nodded at him. “Wan’…wan’ be little.”
Watching Rhett morph into what you liked to call Daddy Mode was a sight to behold. It was as if he was slipping into a comfortable shirt that fit him like a glove. It was who he was always meant to be.
“Alright then, little bun. I’ll put the dishes in the sink. Go get your jammies out and I’ll come up and help you get changed in a minute.
You happily nodded. “Okay! And then can we color pictures? And watch Little Bear?”
“We can do anything you want.”
You gasped in delight, already beginning to feel as little as could be. “Thank you Daddy!” You stood from the table and stepped around it to plant a kiss on his cheek before you scurried off to go get ready for bed.
You knew exactly what you wanted to wear. Rhett’s shirt always brought you comfort, and they were what you wore to bed more often than not. So you grabbed a clean one from the drawer, tossing it onto the bed before you grabbed a pair of underwear from your own drawer. Then you sat on the edge of the bed to patiently wait for him.
You much preferred Rhett to help you get ready for bed. Especially after he’d been gone all week and you’d had to do it yourself. His presence was welcome.
Moments later, he was stepping into the room, and he smiled at the sight of you patiently waiting. “Ready, bun?” He asked, and you eagerly nodded.
He proceeded to help you change out of your clothes and into his shirt and your underwear. Once you were all set, he gently guided you to the bathroom, where you moved to sit upon the counter as he helped you brush your teeth. He stood before you and lovingly held your jaw in his big hand as he ran the toothbrush over your teeth.
The action made you feel especially small, and by the time he was finished, you were in a state of complete relaxation, entirely floating in your moment of little space. “Atta bunny,” he praised with a kiss to your nose. “Ready to head back downstairs?”
“Yep!” You happily replied.
He held out his hand and you placed yours in it, letting him help guide you off the counter before you happily followed him back downstairs.
“Go get your coloring stuff, I’ll set up Little Bear on the TV,” Rhett instructed, his heart warming at your soft ‘okay Daddy!’ as you went.
You quickly gathered your coloring supplies and then set them down on the coffee table as you plopped down right on the floor beside the table. But all of the sudden, you let out a gasp.
“Oh no! I forgot to bring a stuffie down with me!” You exclaimed.
Rhett glanced at you from where he’d been selecting the proper program on the TV. His face softened. “Don’t you worry about that, punkin’ seed. I got ya a little something while I was away that I think you’re gon’ love. Just gimme a minute to grab it.”
He pressed play on an episode of Little Bear before he quickly stepped over to the coat tree in the hallway, where he’d hung his jacket. He reached into his pocket and then pulled out a little stuffed horse.
He his the stuffie behind his back as he strolled back into the living room. You’d already begun coloring a picture, which you looked up from at the sound of his footsteps.
“Here you go, bunny.” He presented the small brown horse to you. It had a little white mark on its forehead, and white socks decorating its feet.
“Oh!” You exclaimed, rushing to stand. You gently took it from Rhett’s hands and admired it before hugging the soft animal to your chest. “It’s perfect, Daddy.”
“I’m glad,” he said with a smile. His heart ached with love for you. Your happiness made the entire hellish week worth it.
Then you launched yourself into his arms and whispered, “thank you, I luh you.”
“I luh you too, little’n.”
Then you grabbed his hand and guided him to the sofa, where he sat as you got settled on the floor at his feet to resume your coloring. Little Bear played softly i the background as you colored a picture, with the intention of giving it to Rhett when you were finished.
For the first time all week, you finally felt at ease. And so did he. He was able to slip right back into the role of being your caregiver, and it felt so good. He’d hated being away from you. It felt unnatural, almost, to be apart.
For Rhett, it was a relief to be back in your presence. He would never speak it out loud, but that fear is abandonment had eaten at him all week, and even though he knew that you would be here to greet him when he returned, the irrational part of his brain still tried to suggest what if? What if he lost you? The thought was unfathomable. But thankfully, he didn’t have to fathom it. Because you were right here at his feet, coloring peacefully, so content to have him back with you.
“Wan’ color with me, Daddy?” You suddenly asked, pulling him from his reverie.
He hadn’t realized he was crying until he felt dampness in his own cheeks. He tried to wipe them away before you saw them and grew concerned, but you saw them anyway, and your face contorted into a look of concern.
“Oh no! You’re crying!” You gasped. As Rhett slid down to sit beside you, you reached a hand out to wipe at his tears. “What’s wrong? Are you sad?”
You said it with such concern and reverence that it caused his heart to clench within his chest. “No, I’m not sad, little bun. Just…so happy to be back with you that it kinda got me cryin’ happy tears.”
Your own eyes began to shimmer. “Oh, Daddy,” you whispered. You immediately wrapped your arms around his neck and held him close. “I’m happy too. Everything feels like it’s the way it’s supposed to be again.”
You left little kisses along his jaw and cheeks, soon causing his handsome face to break into a smile. “I love you more than words can say. You know that, right?”
“Mhm! I love you too! More than the moon and all the stars in the sky!” You kissed the side of his head as you hugged him close. “You’re the best daddy in the whole wide world!”
His arms tightened around you, and he let out a contented hum. Your love made his heart sing. “And you’re the best baby I ever could’ve asked for,” he echoed, leaning back to look into your face.
Happily, you kissed his nose. “Now let’s color,” you urged. He couldn’t help but smile at your eagerness.
You settled beside him and eagerly handed him a coloring book and placed your box of crayons between you both so he could use them too. You spent the rest of the evening coloring, happily showing Rhett your picture once you were finished, and announcing that you’d made it for him.
“I love it, little bun,” he praised, admiring your work. “I’m gon’ put it on the fridge so I can look at it everyday.”
Once you were tired of coloring, you climbed onto the couch, sleepily mumbling that you wanted to snuggle. Rhett gladly joined you on the couch and wrapped his arms around you as you rested your head on his chest.
“I’m so happy you’re home, Daddy,” you murmured.
He squeezed you a little tighter. “I’m happy to be home, punkin’ seed.”
You felt yourself relax fully against him, safe and content in his arms. Now that he was home, all was right with the world. You felt whole, as if the half that had been missing from your heart was finally back where it belonged.
As you slipped off into dreamland in his arms, you heard him softly say, “I love you more than life itself, little bun. Don’t you ever forget that.”
He didn’t ever want to leave you again. However, he knew full well that there would come times that leaving you was unavoidable. But he knew behind a shadow of a doubt that it would only make each reunion that much sweeter. And he also knew that no matter what, you would always be waiting for him when he returned.

When Rhett got home from work, you were waiting eagerly on the sofa. You’d been little all day, which wasn’t a problem. You and Rhett had both made sure your apartment was baby-proofed and that you had plenty of activities within your reach to keep you busy while he worked on the Ranch. You’d been able to entertain yourself for a while with colouring and watching cartoons, but as the sun started to set, casting a golden hue throughout the entire kitchen, you wanted nothing more than for Rhett to be home. You're laid curled up with your head on the arm of the couch, snapping to a sitting position as soon as you heard his key turn in the lock.
“Daddy’s home!!” You cheered, jumping up and running into his open arms.
“Oh hi bambi!” Rhett said, lifting you up and pressing your face into his neck. Today had been a long and boring day, and he’d missed you from the moment he pulled out of the driveway in the morning.
You nuzzled into him, humming with satisfaction. After a moment, Rhett set you back down and gave you a pat on the head, ruffling up your hair. You turn your head to the side, seeing the pastel little charms around his wrist, it was the bracelet you made him last week, using pastel and alphabet beads, spelling "Dada" in bright blue letters.
"Dada!! you kept it on?" you gasp, looking up at him, a big smile spreading on your cheeks
"Course I did baby!! We pinky promised remember?"
His reply makes you squeal and clap your hands, wrapping your arms around his waist and burying your face into his chest
"Love you Dada" your voice muffled into his shirt, happily swaying side to side
“I love you too bambi” He hums with a little grin on his face. You take your face away from his chest and look up at him, your eyebrows knitted in confusion
“Dada, why do you call me bambi?? I‘m not a deer!”
“Oh, are you sure?” Rhett argued back.
“You look like bambi!”
“I do?”
“Well, you’re cute like bambi.”
He pets your hair, tickling a bit behind your ears and making you giggle.
“Hmm, you’re soft like bambi too!”
“I’m not bambi Daddy!, I’m a baby!” You laughed, dodging his hands as he tried to run his hands over your ribs.
“You’re fast like Bambi! I can’t keep up with you!” Rhett chuckles as he chases you into your bedroom.
You jumped onto the bed, rolling over on your side and flopping down onto the mattress. You giggled, unfurling from your position and reaching out your limbs in a long overdue stretch. Your whole face scrunched up as you tried and failed to suppress a yawn. You looked up at Rhett with droopy eyes, and he patted the mattress next to him.
“I think you're like Bambi too. You're brave, just like him, dada. Make me feel safe, my hero,” you told him, your speech slows as the tiredness set in, crawling over to him and perching on his lap, leaning to press a soft kiss against his forehead before he could even reply.
"Daddy's handsome too” you whispered.
“I think your opinion's biased, angel.” His cheeks burn in your hands.
“Don't care, I think you're wonderful, Dada,” you smile up at him.
He gives you a small smile, tears beading in the corners of his eyes at your comment
“No crying Dada, please no crying!” you said hurriedly as you throw your arms around his shoulders. Squeezing him as tight as you could.
“I’m sorry, little one, you’re just so kind and sweet, and sometimes Daddy wonders if he’s good enough for you,” he admits softly, wiping his nose with his sleeve and pressing a firm kiss to the side of your head.
"Dada's always enough for me, don't want anybody else," you say as you pull away to rest your forehead against his
No matter how hard you fought it, sleep was taking over. With watery eyes, Rhett carefully rolls you over to your side of the bed and tucks himself into your side, his arm wrapping over your stomach as you squirm and get comfortable, slipping your paci into your mouth and tracing a finger over the apple of your cheek
“I love you bambi, Daddy loves you so so much ”

Rhett, who forgets how big he is and keeps accidentally smothering you. Rolling on top of you in bed and damn near crushing you in the process, suddenly draping himself across your back and accidentally taking you both to the floor. Running up to you after winning the rodeo and slamming into you like he's playing in the NFL, getting pouty when he realizes his shoulders are too big for him to squeeze into your clothes. He can't help it; he just gets so lost in the moment that he forgets he's a giant wall of hard muscle and bone.
But you make it work. He learns to straddle your hips when he rolls over onto your chest in the morning and to give you a warning when he decides to lean his weight on you. The excited slamming of his body against yours never ends, but you find a brand of clothing you can share. More than once, you catch Rhett in town, snug as can be in one of your shirts. Happiest cowboy in the west 🐂

Okay but like Rhett dating you, a personified ray of sunshine and you telling him "I always feel better with you by my side"???? He's not used to people actually wanting him he'd be so soft 😭😭😭😭
you had known of the infamous rhett abbott your entire life. wabang was a smaller town with even smaller schools. but you never interacted until one weekend when the cowboy came waltzing in to the local animal shelter your family owned.
he had to do community service for getting in trouble once again after having one too many at the handsome gambler. you didn't know what to think of him at first. he had a scowl on his face, his cowboy hat tipped low. your dad didn't care for him, your mom thought he was bad news but you - you knew there was something there under that hard exterior.
rhett loved the animals. he'd help you clean the kennels and get the pools set up when it was warm outside. he made you laugh. and when he asked you on a date, his face turned cherry red and he stumbled over his words. like he was nervous. you made rhett nervous.
you fell hard and fast for rhett. he had this soft side to him that he never showed to anyone else but you. he couldn't believe that you, someone who shined a light on his darkest parts, could love him.
you were laying in bed with him one night. your bodies pressed close together in the darkness and your fingers brushed over his chest softly.
"rhett," you whispered, as if you were scared to wake him if he had been asleep.
"yeah, sweetheart?"
"i just- i just wanted to tell you that- that i always feel better with you by my side. i feel like i've waited my whole life for you."
all rhett could do was pull you in to a bruising kiss, a stray tear or two streaming down his cheeks. he finally felt that love that everyone talked about. a love that felt warm and welcoming and accepted you. a love he had been yearning for. he had his sunshine on a dark day and you would always be there to remind him that he was worth everything.

I feel like Rhett would be the type of guy who thinks it hurts to brush his hair, so he simply just does not bother at all. and if you start gently untangling his locks and gently scratch at his scalp he’ll let you, laying on your lap and purring like a cat until he’s almost asleep. so then you gently brush through his hair and he’s so surprised at how good it feels.
he’d then proceed to whine about how his hair looks ‘too neat to be a ruddy cowboy’ which makes you smush his face between your palms and coo at him how pretty and beautiful he is and he’d blush and—-

bambi. | dream a little dream of me.

→ description: rhett spends the evening winding down with his bambi. based off this drabble here.
→ word count: 2.4K.
→ c/w: age regression. other than that, fluff, fluff, fluff.
→ a/n: i understand this is niche, therefore if you’re on my taglist, i completely understand if you don’t read this! | woodland creatures | agere masterlist | main masterlist |
If it was any other Friday night, you and Rhett would be found down at the Handsome Gambler or sinking down a couple beers on your sofa and watching a corny action film from the eighties and debating weather Rhett could pull off that stunt or not. But tonight was different.
The week had been gruelling for you both, with heavy workloads and exhausting physical labour on your ranch for five days straight. There were still bits and pieces to do over the weekend, but you both always tried your best to get most of the work done during the week so your weekends could be spent lazing around with each other in a heap of bedsheets and day-old clothes. Understandably so, you were exhausted and you let yourself float in that familiar and fuzzy headspace.
Rhett could gauge that you were feeling really tiny within your age regression and he set up everything appropriately. Your living room floor had been coated in soft blankets for you to sit on and he had surrounded you with an array of plush cushions and pillows. He knew when you were feeling small within your age, your limbs would get floppier alongside it and Rhett had baby-proofed your surroundings.
The coffee table was pulled up to the sofa in your living room and you were comfortably sat between both. Colouring books aged three years and up had been put to the side and Rhett opted for a stack of coloured paper and pencils for you to scribble whatever your little mind would see. Alongside the scribbles you were deeply focused on, there were toys scattered across the table.
There were baby building block toys, that you would put in the matching shaped holes. There were plastic farm and zoo animals that Rhett ensured were big enough and had no rough edges. Your gathering of Sylvanian Families was placed neatly together and your beloved toy horse that he fixed up was placed at the corner of the table, with a compromise from Rhett.
“‘m sorry, Bambi, I don’t wan’ these little creatures' tiny furniture to get lost ‘nd I don’t wan’ Peach gettin’ any more ouchies, okay?”
You happily complied with the comfort of having your beloved, velvet creatures nearby.
You were snuggly sat in your baby grow that was patterned in delicate and detailed drawings of woodland creatures, including tiny baby fawns. Your pacifier clip that was attached to your romper was decorated in cartoon illustrations of cowboys. The pacifier itself was resting lopsided in your mouth and decorated with cartoon animals. Occasionally in between your drawing, you opted for your Giraffe-shaped chew toy that was layered with different textures.
Off to the side of the living room was the kitchen where Rhett was cleaning up the last of the pots and pans from your comforting and warm meal of macaroni cheese. He had never made macaroni cheese before he met you, but with love and patience, you taught him how and by now he knew the recipe like the back of his hand. He always had the ingredients in your home, ready to create the meal when you needed it most.
Unknown to you, Rhett was watching you cautiously from the kitchen as he dried up the remains of the pots and pans from your dinner. He had baby-proofed your surroundings and there were no real harmful elements around you, but he understood that your headspace was no older than one and he worried.
He took on the role of your caregiver high and mighty on his shoulders. He would protect you to the ends of the earth and the trust you put into him was something he didn’t take for granted lightly. Watching the way the cogs turned behind your eyes and how your body physically de-tensed in his hold as you regressed, was something he would always hold dear and close to his heart. The feeling of cradling you gently as you let yourself become vulnerable in his arms was something truly special. It was an unbreakable and undeniable bond, and he was devoted to you.
From the kitchen, he watched the way your tongue poked outwards from the corner of your pacifier as you concentrated feverishly on your drawing in front of you. Your hand came upwards towards your eyes curled in a tight fist. You rubbed at your eyes haphazardly, in an attempt to stifle an exhausted yawn on this Friday night. Rhett smiled knowingly to himself and turned his back momentarily to place the last of the cook pots in the cupboard and tuck the dishcloth on the rack of the oven.
As he opened the cupboard, he retrieved your milk bottle, strawberry milkshake powder and your milk of preference from the fridge, and placed them all in line on the kitchen countertop. When he turned back around to face you in the living room, another attempted stifled yawn was futile.
The exhausted yawn took over your body whole and you scrunched your eyes shut tight, the pencil in your hand almost going limp against the colored paper. When you came to, Rhett let out a chuckle quietly to himself and made his way over to you. He was gentle on his feet as he padded across the floorboards to your bundle of plush cushions and pillows.
“Hey, Bambi,” He soothed out in a low and quiet tone. As he steadily placed himself down next to you on the cushioned floor, you gave him a sleepy yet gleaming smile from behind your pacifier. “How y’ gettin’ on?”
Rhett knew that within your tiny headspace right now, for you to be nonverbal was normal. You gave him a gleeful verbalized hum, acknowledging his presence and question, still letting your hand scrawl on the paper with your pencil.
He tucked himself next to you and drew his broad arm around your back. You fell into his chest and side almost instantly, positioning yourself against his familiar warmth. His hand came up to the side of your head and he scratched his fingertips soothingly on your scalp, helping you regulate with his touch and subconsciously soothing you into that sleepy state. He knew it was nearly time for bedtime and he would be gently winding you down with his touches and quiet voice. His other hand stretched out and his nimble fingers pointed at the coloured paper. He let out a quiet gasp.
“Bambi!” A hushed exclamation, “Did you draw this?” You nodded vigorously, the ring on your pacifier knocking against itself. “Baby, it’s beautiful. My little one is s’ talented.” He tickled at the side of your ear with his other hand and you let out a giggle.
You tapped the pencil on the paper at the scrawl of a shape and let out a squeal, before turning to meet his eyes. Rhett clocked it instantly.
“That’s me?”
You squealed again and let out a single, “Dada!”
“Where’s Bambi? Can you point them out to Dada?” You tapped at the paper to another shape and he hummed approvingly, a prideful smile twisting on his lips.
Rhett pointed to the last scrawled-out set of shapes and colours, and he watched how your eyes drifted to the corner of the table where your beloved toy horse he had fixed up was sitting.
“Is that, Peach?”
You nodded again and mumbled out from behind your pacifier, “Tu’ day.”
Rhett let out a silent, “Ah!” and a rumbled chuckle, pulling you impossibly closer to his chest. His hand was now cradling your head against him and you wrapped your whole body into his. He put the pieces together and he knew you were referring back to the Tuesday just passed. It was an almost alarming hot day that came from nowhere and you took the evening to ride out on his horse to the wildflower fields, far, far off from your home. He remembered how after you both made your way back home, you were both tuckered out, but you smiled to yourself and told Rhett with a loving and whole look in your eyes, “I needed that. Thank you, Cowboy.”
He was silently touched beyond words that you would remember that day and that you treasured it so fondly that you would draw it, even within your tiny headspace.
“Bambi was s’ sleepy after that horse ride with Daddy, weren’t you?” He craned his face down to take in your sleepy eyes and the way your eyelids were struggling to stay open. The knuckle of his index finger came up and gently brushed against your nose and he still watched with adorning eyes how your nose twitched slightly.
You gave him a small nod and completely succumbed to his grasping hold, burying your face into the crook of his neck and latching your arms around his neck. Rhett read how your body was melting against his, how your muscles relaxed and your breathing was starting to even out, getting slower and slower with each passing second.
“Alright, little one. I think it’s time we get y’all ready for bedtime.”
There were occasions when at these words from your caregiver's mouth you would protest and plead to stay up for just one more hour, but your body had completely succumbed to the exhaustion. You weren’t putting up a fight anymore. You just wanted to sleep, curled into your Daddy’s chest.
Rhett waited for a beat and at your silent admission, he let his arms drop to your legs, scoop you up and hoist you to his hip as he stood. He took you into the kitchen where he placed you down gently on the wooden chair seated at the kitchen table. You let out a protesting whine as his comforting warmth left your body, your face contorting into a frown and a small pout behind your pacifier. Your hands reached out as fast as they could and you held onto the cuffs of Rhett’s plaid shirt, tugging on them to not let him take a step further.
He cooed at you and took your hands in his, squeezing them tightly and placing two kisses on the backs of them. “It’s alright, Bambi. Daddy’s right here. M’ not leavin’ your side. I’m just gon’ make you a bottle, okay?”
You gave him another verbalized hum in agreement to acknowledge what he had said and you tentatively let go of his calloused hands. You attempted to watch what Rhett was doing with big eyes, but your eyelids were drooping at every blink. The milk was poured into the pot and left to warm slowly on the stove.
At this point, Rhett came back (which was only two steps away from the oven, but it felt like miles) and lifted you, sat himself down on the kitchen chair and brought you to sit in his lap. You resumed your previous position of wrapping your arms around his neck and burying your face into the crook of his neck. You inhaled his familiar and comforting scent of cedar wood and leather, and Rhett’s hands placed on your back felt your ribs expand and then let out of any tension you had.
Gently he began to rock you against his chest and in his arms. All that could be heard was the crackling whoosh! of the gas on the stove and quietly in your ear, Rhett’s low voice, humming a lullaby.
“Stars shinin’ bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper, I love you. Birds singin’ ‘n the sycamore trees, dream a little dream ‘f me.”
He continued for another two verses of the lullaby, his drawl getting lower as he went on before his head picked up and he heard the bubbling foam of the milk rise to the top of the pot. Slowly, and without causing too much disturbance to your nearly asleep frame, he untucked you from himself, placed you back on the kitchen chair and drew together your bottle. It was a combination of milk and a little dusting of strawberry milkshake powder.
With an instinct from yourself, as Rhett came back over to your side, you slipped off the kitchen chair and outstretched your hands to him. He carefully and gently hoisted you to his hip and carried you back to the living room, with the warm bottle in his hand.
“Alright, little one, let's get you cosy against Dada, yeah?” Rhett hummed as he placed himself down on the sofa. He propped himself up in the corner at the end and sat you in between his thighs with your head resting on his upright chest. One hand still held the bottle for you and the other reached for the television remote on the sofas arm. The television had already been quietly playing in the background for the entire evening and he switched it on to an episode of, ‘In the Night Garden’ before you could blink.
Rhett brought the bottle to you and began feeding you, with it still held in his hand. From this angle, he could ensure your safety and could carefully hold the bottle to not let you drink down too much too quickly, or wipe your chin briefly with his thumb. His spare hand was soothingly rubbing your arm, with his fingertips ghosting over your arm hair and tickling you gently. As you parted from your bottle in parts, he would return to running his fingers through your hair and scratching firmly enough on your scalp to regulate your sleepy-induced state. Occasionally he would dip down and place fluttering kisses on your temples, murmuring quiet words of praise against your warm flesh.
The sweet taste of the milk was dancing on your tastebuds and as your eyes were focused on the television in front of you, they were struggling immensely to stay open for more than five seconds.
Rhett clocked the remaining droplets left in your bottle and gently lowered it down, to not get the droplets caught in your throat and tickle you with a horrible cough. Instinctively, he knew this would signify the end to you, but he waited for you to confirm this before pulling the bottle away entirely.
“Fin’, Dada.” You murmured out with sleep lacing your words.
Very few words had been spoken by yourself this evening, but Rhett took this as your sleepy admission. The bottle was placed to the side and he brought you in closer to his chest. His nimble fingers found your pacifier in quick time and placed it between your lips. Another flurry of kisses was placed to your temple and as your breathing evened out to a slower pace, you felt the low rumble of Rhett’s chest underneath you as he spoke the last words you remember that night.
“Atta’, Bambi. Close your eyes, little one. Daddy’s got you.”

→ Description: You've gotten into the habit of having accidents at night. Rhett finds a solution.
→ c/w: This contains age regression and talk of accidents and diapers.
-> Author Note: Please make sure you read the warnings provided. If you like my writing and would like to support me, I'd really appreciate if you would check out my Ko-Fi. I use these donations to help with the cost of groceries. If Ko-Fi is not your thing, I also have a list of things I use at Uni. That being said, Please don't feel any pressure to support; just a simple reblog also helps. ❤️
The first time it happens, Rhett doesn’t think much of it. You were both exhausted and truthfully, since you always sleep cuddled together, and both of your clothes, as well as the sheets, were wet it could’ve been either one of you. You both got up, took a shower and washed the sheets, not really speaking of it again.
The next time it happens though, it’s not so muddled. Rhett had spent most of the night at the bar, having run into some old rodeo buddies and you had told him to go on without you. You were tired and always tended to slip into little space at night, and you didn’t want to risk that happening out with Rhett’s friends. When he gets home, he finds you asleep in your shared bed, sheets wet and smelling faintly of urine.
“Hey little one,” Rhett murmurs, stroking his fingers through your hair to wake you. When your eyes flutter open, he speaks again. “Looks like you had a little accident.”
It’s not accusatory and yet, tears still spring to your eyes. “I-I didn’t mean too,” You stutter, still sleepily.
“I know you didn’t bug,” Rhett soothes. “But we still need to get you cleaned up before you can go back to sleep.”
The accidents happen three more times before Rhett sits you down to talk. He waits until it’s just before you plan to settle down for the night and after he had already helped you slip down into littlespace. You were always in the headspace when this happened so it would stand to reason that little you would be the one to have this conversation with.
"Sweetheart," He starts soothingly. "M'a bit concerned about all the accidents you've been having lately. I know they're not on porpose," He adds before you can argue as he sees the look that you give him. "But it's a lot of work for daddy to keep washing our sheets hm?"
"I can help you!" You say, because you don't know where this conversation is going but you always want to help Rhett with any of his work.
He chuckles. "Oh, I know you can, Bug. You're the best helper, but I was thinking about a different kind of solution to this issue. He stands up off the bed then, going across the room to a carbord box, sitting back down and handing it over.
You gasp loudly. "A present?! Is it for me?"
"It's all yours, baby." Rhett smiles, opening the box for you. "Daddy got it for you. Why don't you see if you like it?"
Peering over the box that was still in Rhett's lap, you frown and take one out. It's a soft diaper, big enough for an adult, but designed like children's, purple with little dinosaurs on it. "What is it, Daddy?" "Diapers for you," He says with a smile, hoping you won't be upset or think that he is punishing you. "You can wear them at nighttime, and then it won't matter if you have any accidents or if you feel too little to make it to the potty. Daddy will always change you and clean you up," He stops, searching your face for understanding or confusion. "Do you want me to put one on you and see how you feel?"

He had many questions, and even went as far as to write your answers down in a little composition pad he kept in the front pocket of his shirt.
You developed a very deep, unshakable bond. A dynamic so full of love and care. You had never felt so safe and protected before. You could fully be yourself with Rhett and he never judged you. He allowed you to be as small as you needed, and he was always there to look out for you.
“Atta bunny.” He tapped your nose. “Now eat your breakfast.”
“I know you can’t be little right now, but…would you like me to tell you a bedtime story to help you fall asleep?”
LEAH 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 oh my goodness! all of these parts had my heart fluttering and gave me a million and one butterflies in my stomach.
“You’re okay, little’n. Daddy’s here.” / “Alright then, little bun. I’ll put the dishes in the sink. Go get your jammies out and I’ll come up and help you get changed in a minute. / “I luh you too, little’n.” / “And you’re the best baby I ever could’ve asked for,” / “I love you more than life itself, little bun. Don’t you ever forget that.”
and all of these little bits of speaking got me absolutely kicking my legs and giggling! all of the little nicknames he gave you! these made so, so happy and warm inside.
how you described the bond between you and rhett, and how rhett slipped into the role of caregiver so easily is everything i’ve ever dreamed about. i love how you capture him as a caregiver. he would be so perfect 🥺
it was like being wrapped up in a warm hug when reading this. thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece. i’m gonna be re-reading it forever! 💗💗

Hii!! Could you please write a Max verstappen x soulmate reader. Like they can speak in each other's minds and how they first met. Like fluff or angst or whatever you want . You make the call. Please 🥺🥺
LMAOOOO IM LITERALLY WRITING THIS FOR RHETT ABBOTT
Nothing, just an inchident. Fucking asshole.
Those were the first words her soulmate ever said to her, the first time she heard his voice in her head. She stopped what she was doing, looking around with wide eyes.
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
And that was how it started. The two had be so fucking surprised, buy recovered quickly. They gave awkward introductions, without actually telling each other anything about themselves.
It took the two of them a moment to realise that, whatever they thought, the other person could hear.
It seemed the two of them hadn't shut up since.
She learnt pretty quickly that he loved to talk, that he loved explaining things. He was a nerd, he loved gaming. She could have listened to him go on about gaming for hours (and she often did).
She couldn't remember what she had told him. Definitely everything but her name. God, how long had it been since his voice first entered her head.
Hey, she said as she woke up.
There was usually no response as she waited for him to wake up. She'd tried to use this to work out where in the world he was, but he was always moving, always on different time zones.
A few hours later, there he was. Hello, schat, he said in her mind. A small smile crossed her face. Are you doing anything nice today?
He rarely spoke about his own day, she noticed. But it wasn't a problem. If he wanted to her know, she'd know. My dad got me tickets to see my local race with him, she replied, pausing her makeup to concentrate on talking to him.
There was a beat before he responded. You still there? She asked, pausing on her eye liner.
What race? Cars or horses?
Cars, she responded.
Again, there was a moment of silence. But then, Not the Formula One, right?
She thought back to what her father had told her. Yeah, the Formula One.
Her soulmate when quiet after that. There was a good few hours where she finished getting ready and went with her father to the race track. All that time she'd been trying to talk to her soulmate, and all that time she'd been getting nothing in return.
It was a little disheartening, thinking her soulmate didn't want to talk to her.
No, it was really disheartening.
As she and her father sat in the stands, she couldn't help but sulk. What had she done to upset him so bad he didn't want to hear from her? Of course he could hear everything she was thinking, but she didn't much care if he wasn't going to reply.
But then all twenty cars were on the track and the lights were flashing red, ready to go green.
I'm going to win this one for you.
It had been so unexpected, it nearly had her jumping out of her seat. What? Are you here?
As soon as I'm standing on that podium, you'll know it's me.
She must have realised it then, that her soulmate was down in the number on Red Bull car. She didn't take her eyes off of it for the entirety of the race (unless she was forced to). Holy shit, that was her soulmate down there.
And he did win it. Won it for her. She watched it all, him finishing first, the podium celebrations.
How do I get to you? She asked as she hopelessly looked around. Max Verstappen was her freaking soulmate!
Stay right where you are, schat. I'll come to you.
She told him where she was, apparently able to do that now she knew for sure who her soulmate was. And there she waited as he finished a debrief with the team and got changed.
But then he was striding towards her, cap pulled low. For so many years he'd been just a voice in her head. And now he was in front of her. Smiling down at her with surprise in his eyes.
"You're beautiful." Those were the first words he said to her, the first words that weren't echoing around her head.
"So are you." Wiping her hands on her jeans, she held one out and gave him her name.
Max took her hand and shook. "I'm Max," he said, wearing his usual pretty smile.
Holy fuck, Max Verstappen really was her soulmate.

aaa thank you! :D 🌺 Join my Birthday Bouquet Event! 💐
"No," water splashes behind you, Rhett's feeble attempt at getting your attention. "No, absolutely not."
Your head tilts to get a better look at him; he's only two feet away from you, but it feels more like a mile. "What's wrong?"
His head shakes, wet hair falling into his face, "'s too deep."
"It's not that bad." You don't know what he's so upset about. The water hardly exceeds a depth of seven feet, but to Rhett, it might as well be a sudden drop to a bottomless pit.
"It is that bad!" His foot bumps into yours as he tries to push himself backward, legs flailing in such a way that it somehow manages to work. "My feet can't touch the damn bottom!"
Rhett Abbott. Two-time winner of the Amelia County rodeo. The big, bad cowboy who can wrangle just about any cow and rushes into a bar fight without batting an eye is the same man who refuses to tread into deep water.
"Wasn't it your idea to go to the pool?" You giggle, venturing back toward him.
His arms are around you in a matter of seconds, drawing you close until you're snug against him, legs slipping between his on their own accord. "My plan was t' lay in the sun like a barn cat," pausing to steal a kiss off of you, "not pretend 'm a fish."
"Well, I don't see any gills on you," but you certainly aren't missing the opportunity to check. Your hands dart across the broad expanse of his chest, nimble fingers venturing between the shallow divots of his ribs as if you might actually find something hiding there.
"Not yet," he rumbles with a laugh, but he's not making any move to stop you and your tickling touches, "give it a few minutes 'n I might have some."
You just might pull him out of the water for a closer look.

“Hey, honey!” Rhett hears a sweet voice call out through the dimly lit, noisy bar. He senses a figure approaching to the left of the barstool he’s sat on, hand freezing halfway to his mouth as he goes to take a sip from his bottle of beer.
It takes him a moment to realize that you’re speaking to him, his confused expression meeting your hopeful, smiling one. He checks behind him for somebody else, but nope, there’s no one there — you’re definitely talking to him.
“Uh…hi? Do I- do we… know each other?” Rhett places his beer down on the bar, wincing as he asks the question; it wouldn’t be the first time he’d forgotten a woman that he’d met in this very bar and drunkenly hooked up with. And that situation never usually ends well for him.
You’re very pretty — beautiful, actually — and Rhett decides right then that he definitely doesn’t know you. There’s no way he’d ever be able to forget a face like that.
He’s pulled from his thoughts as you step a little closer to him, and though you’re still smiling, within the newfound proximity Rhett can now see a frazzled, almost pleading look in your bright eyes as you go to speak again.
“Can you pretend to be my boyfriend?” You ask, your voice lowered to a level that only he can hear.
“Uh…” Rhett’s confusion is written all over his face, from his brows that furrow adorably to his gaping mouth.
Your own expression turns sheepish as you realize how silly the question sounds, and you’re quick to intercept and elaborate for him.
“There’s a guy over there,” you turn away from Rhett slightly and nod your head subtly to your left and catch a glimpse of the drunken stranger who wouldn’t leave you alone. “He’s been trying to hit on me for the last thirty minutes. Can’t seem to get the hint that I’m not interested.”
Rhett follows your gaze and sees a man sipping a beer and staring at the two of you from the other side of the bar.
“So… I told him that I was waiting for my boyfriend.”
When he meets your eyes again, he can tell that you’re trying to play it cool, but Rhett can sense that little hint of fear in your eyes and the worry in voice. And, though he doesn’t know you, he feels his protective instincts kick in.
You can see the change in his demeanor almost immediately, shoulders squared as he sends the other man across the room an intimidating glare that you don’t think you’d ever want to be on the receiving end of.
But, when Rhett’s gaze returns to you, his blue eyes soften and his lips turn up just a bit. He gestures to the empty stool next to his and you take the seat with a sigh of relief and a grateful smile.
“If I’m gonna be your boyfriend, then I guess you should know my name. I’m Rhett.”
Your own shoulders deflate in relief that this kind stranger — Rhett — has agreed to help you, a genuine smile now forming on your lips as you introduce yourself as well.
You’re not entirely sure what made you choose him, but for some reason you found yourself drawn to the pretty cowboy sitting alone at the bar and drinking a beer. And, you’re glad you did.
He’s even prettier up close — little curls peeking out beneath his Stetson hat, adorable button nose, and his eyes captivating pools of blue, intense in their gaze that’s now focused on you. His voice deep and rich, and oh-so soothing.
“You new to town? I don’t think I’ve seen you around here.” He’d definitely remember if he had.
You nod your head in confirmation. “Very new, I just moved here two days ago for work.”
“Well, welcome to Wabang. I promise not all us guys here are creeps like that asshole.” Rhett promises, once again glancing toward the man who had been harassing you earlier.
That draws a light chuckle out of you, but before you can respond, Rhett narrows his eyes and goes to speak again.
“Speaking of which, he’s still staring over here. I’m gonna put my arm around you… if you’re okay with that.”
Your head nods in agreement without really thinking much about it. Admittedly, you find yourself a little bit lost in the quiet, gravely tone of Rhett’s voice, that deep southern accent, and you’re fairly certain he could get you to agree to anything if he keeps talking to you like that.
Before you can register what’s happening, you’re enveloped by warmth and a pleasant musk that’s a spicy mix of vanilla and tobacco as Rhett leans in and drapes a protective arm over your shoulders.
“Can I get you a drink, sweetheart?” Rhett emphasizes the last word sarcastically; if he’s going to pretend to be your boyfriend, he’s going to have fun with it.
You take a second too long to answer, too busy trying to inhale Rhett’s scent again as discreetly as possible, hoping he doesn’t notice — he definitely notices.
When you look back up into his eyes, there’s a playful mirth to them, and a smirk overtaking his lips at how flustered you are by the close proximity and the use of the pet name.
“Y-yeah…yes.” You shake your head as though to clear it. “I’ll have a beer.”
As you inwardly cringe at yourself for stumbling through your answer, Rhett simply smirks and raises his hand to flag down the bartender and order your drink, all the while keeping you close to his side underneath his arm.
Only when the bartender places the bottle down in front of you does Rhett remove his arm from around your shoulders, and you find yourself already missing the warmth of the denim of his jacket on your bare skin.
“So, you moved here for work. What do you do?”
You tell him all about your new job and how excited you are for this fresh start in a new place, and Rhett listens intently, chiming in when necessary, loving how passionate you are about your work and content to just listen to the melodic sound of your voice.
“Alright, enough about me. What do you do, Rhett?” It’s the first time you’ve said his name tonight and Rhett feels his cheeks heat, deciding right then that he loves the way it sounds on your lips and that he needs to hear it more.
“I help out on my family’s ranch,” Rhett tells you. “…But I’m also a bull rider.” A small grin grows on his lips that tells you just how much he loves it.
“A bull rider?!” You’re beaming at him, eyes widened in surprise. “No way, that’s so cool! Way cooler than my job.”
Rhett lets out a deep chuckle and shakes his head in an attempt to protest. Bashful and blushing even harder now, he tries to brush it off – unable to take a compliment, but you’re having none of it.
“Come on, it’s very impressive! Maybe I’ll come cheer you on in the stands sometime.”
“Yeah?” The two of you share light-hearted grins and you give Rhett an affirmative nod. Yeah, he would definitely like that.
The two of you sit at the bar and talk for a while longer, Rhett buying you a couple more beers. You discuss anything and everything that comes to mind and share a good few laughs, the alcohol leaving you on just the right side of tipsy, feeling open and content – light.
Rhett only nurses the one beer that he’s been drinking since you approached him earlier in the evening. He finds himself already feeling a bit protective of you, liking the responsibility of keeping an eye on you and making sure you’re having a good time. Besides, he just really enjoys talking to you and doesn’t feel the need to get drunk tonight.
Rhett continues to also keep an eye on the guy who was bothering you earlier – though he’s fairly certain he wouldn’t try to approach you again since you’ve been at Rhett’s side for a while now, his arm once again finding itself wrapped securely around your side.
However, Rhett’s noticed throughout the night that he’s not the only man in the bar he’s caught looking at you – yes, you’re new in town, but he knows they’re also looking – staring really – because of how beautiful you are. And he maybe finds himself feeling a bit jealous.
“Seems you’ve caught the attention of just about every guy in here tonight.” Rhett informs you with a teasing lilt to his voice to make light of the situation, smirking into his beer bottle as he takes the final sip.
“Not that I want it.” You roll your eyes dramatically. A playful smirk then takes over your lips — you’ve got an idea. The corner of Rhett’s lips quirk up a bit too as his brow raises in question.
“Just trust me.” Your face is leaning in closer towards him and before Rhett can process what’s happening, you lean in and press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
The fact that you’re tipsy has definitely provided you some liquid courage, that much is for sure when you pull back and shift to whisper into Rhett’s ear.
“Gotta let them know that I’m all yours.” Your tone is playful, sarcastically seductive, the warmth of your breath against the skin of Rhett’s earlobe sending a shiver down his spine and he has to fight to hold back a groan. God, does he wish that statement were true.
You can’t stop the little fit of giggles that escapes you as you pull back, and Rhett can’t help but chuckle along with you. Admiring the way your eyes crinkle up when you laugh, the adorable way that your nose wrinkles too. The skin of his cheek is still burning where your plush lips had kissed him.
Now it’s Rhett who has an idea, you can almost see the light bulb flicker behind his crystal blue eyes when they peer into yours again.
“Do you have a ride home?” He asks and your brows furrow adorably, curious as to where he’s going with this. You let him know that you were just going to call an Uber.
“I can drive you home… if you’d like.” Rhett’s nowhere near drunk from the one beer he’s had all evening.
“And there is a way you could show everyone you’re mine.” He proposes, that playful smirk returning to his lips and a mischievous look in his eyes.
“Oh?” You narrow your eyes at Rhett, but you can’t help but grin along with him, still wondering what he could possibly be suggesting.
Rhett goes to remove the cowboy hat from his head, repeating your own words from only a few moments ago. “Just trust me.”
He moves to place the hat atop your head, a silly grin still on his face as he adjusts it over your hair. You meet his look with a puzzled smile of your own, unsure of what he meant, but something within you tells you that you can – trust him, that is.
Rhett flags down the bartender and closes his tab before lightly knocking his fists on the wooden bar top.
“Come on, let’s get you home.” Rhett chuckles like he knows something you don’t, and you can only roll your eyes in jest as you wait to be let in on the joke.
Rhett watches as you shrug on your jacket, stealing a long glance at you wearing his Stetson – feeling a sense of pride swell in his chest and enjoying the way it looks on your head – before he gently ushers you toward the exit of the bar.
Near the door, he sends a self-assured smirk to the asshole who had been bothering you earlier in the evening, who just watches along from a nearby booth with his buddies, a sour look on his face as you walk out into the night with Rhett’s arm draped over your shoulder.
Only when you’re secured into the passenger side of his truck does Rhett divulge the nature of his plan.
“So, uh — the hat,” Rhett nods towards his hat that you’re wearing and your fingers reach up to touch the worn fabric. “If you wear someone’s cowboy hat, you’re supposed to uh…ride the cowboy…”
He trails off, admittedly a bit nervous now – he doesn’t want to come off as a creep – as he explains the ‘cowboy hat rule’ as he called it, to you. His way of making the whole ‘fake boyfriend’ thing seem a bit more real to any prying eyes, showing everyone in the bar that you’re ‘his’.
You stare at him in bewilderment for a long moment, mouth agape. Your expression sends Rhett into a boisterous fit of laughter, unable to refrain, and earns him a playful smack on the arm.
You close your eyes and cover your face with your palms. “Oh my god…”
“Oh, come on. It’s kinda funny.” Rhett contends through his laughter and you send him what you hope to be a scornful pout. But there’s no real malice behind it, a smile fighting to break through as you find it hard to be annoyed with him.
“And it’s not like I’m gonna hold you to it.” He promises with a wink that might make you swoon if you weren’t already sitting down.
Before you know it, you’re joining in on the laughs, unable to hold back any longer and relishing in the humor or the situation.
Once you’ve rattled off your address to Rhett, the ride to your home is filled with quiet music pouring from the truck’s radio – though it merely serves as background noise as you and Rhett spend the entire 20-minute drive talking. Sharing little details about yourselves and making plenty more jokes. His Stetson still sitting pretty atop your head.
Despite having spent hours talking with him in the bar, you still find yourself wanting to know more about him, not wanting the conversation – or this night – to end.
The truck reaches your little house all too soon, and Rhett finds himself not wanting the night to end either. Pretending to be your boyfriend was the highlight of his evening and he wants nothing more than to see you again.
When he stops the truck at the end of the little path leading to your front door, Rhett clears his throat before moving to speak.
“So, I — uh, I was wondering, c-could I… maybe get your phone number?” Rhett asks quietly, a pink flush taking over his pale cheeks as he internally curses himself for sounding so nervous.
You don’t mind it, though — this seemingly tough cowboy growing all flustered and stumbling over his words for you? You couldn’t find it more endearing.
Rhett holds his breath as your pretty eyes — slightly glassy still from the alcohol you’d consumed earlier in the evening, look straight into his blue ones, and you grace him with a coy smile.
“Of course. Who else am I going to call when guys are harassing me and I need a fake boyfriend?”
Rhett releases the breath he was holding and bites back a smile, his shoulders dropping in relief. “Great.”
Once you’ve exchanged numbers, you gingerly remove Rhett’s hat from your head, smoothing down your hair.
Unbuckling your seatbelt, you scoot closer toward him in the bench seat, reaching up to carefully place it back on top of his head — your eyes gazing into Rhett’s blue ones as they peer back into yours, the two of you sharing bashful smiles.
With the cowboy hat secured on the head of its rightful owner, you move to pull away. However, you pause before you get too far, deciding to lean in and place one last kiss to Rhett’s cheek before climbing out of his truck.
Rhett’s in such a daze – cheeks flushing that bright pink once again as warmth radiates from where your lips had kissed him, and a dopey grin on his lips – that he almost doesn’t notice as you walk around to the driver’s side of his truck, leaning a bit into the open window. Your face close to his, lit up all pretty in the moonlight.
“Thank you for turning my shitty night around, Rhett.” You bite back a grin. “I had a lot of fun.”
Before Rhett can respond – still flustered from the kiss to his cheek and now from hearing you say his name again, you back away from his window, making your way towards the path. Walking backwards, still facing the truck and grinning at him all the while.
“Oh, and you’re a really great fake boyfriend!” You call out.
Breaking off into a giggle that carries in the night’s slight breeze and Rhett can only chuckle back, shaking his head as he watches you with a fond smile.
With that, you turn around and walk off to your house with a spring in your step. Rhett stays sat there in his truck until he sees you make it through your front door safely, and he’s absolutely beaming.
Rhett's going to call you first thing tomorrow. He hopes that he can turn this ‘fake’ boyfriend situation into something real.
