Music From The Pearl
Uganda has a very dynamic music industry originating from Hip-hop, RnB, RnBass, Afro Beat, jazz and other genres. Today I talk about the music producers. The manufacturers of the hit records. I had a friend who told me that, he wanted to introduce me to an upcoming music producer whose studio is somewhere classified in the area code of Ntinda. This producer makes some crazily nice music, he was doing a great job with his D.A.W interface (Digital Audio Work space). He did his music with passion. We had a little chat and got in to an argument. I hadn’t realized that he was a know_it_All guy. that I didn’t blame him because what he knew was actually what he wanted to know. This mentality of Producers thinking that they know everything yet they actually don’t might be the reason why most of our music doesn’t move boundaries. The next day I watched a clip on YouTube on the different ways how producers can get there music out to the public. This individual said that one of the problems that us the producers, the artistes and the DJs have is the fear of releasing some records online to sites like soundcloud, soundclick and others. This is because we believe that someone out there might snatch the track from you, or someone might actually pirate. Well this is not the case. Research says that when you upload a track online, we get comments, which can help us develop. Someone commenting on your track helps a lot, it helps boost your moral and the ability to make better sound. Some comments come with links that can change your whole life and careers. With that said, I took a look online on Ugandan Producers, and beats.. Less than 3 or no well-known music producers in Uganda post beats or instrumentals, including the big guns in the business.  When I search for my inspirational beat makers such as Boi 1da, Lex Lugar, Jahlil Beats, Beat Bully, and all the others, they have their products online, mainly instrumentals and recorded tracks. Their music views, plays and comments are many, they get motivated after reading the comments. My Ugandan heroes, the likes of Just Jose, Aethan, Andy Music, and others give us hits. Its life changing when an artiste, gets up on stage and does a freestyle on your beats, wow. All of us who have been in high school know this. We had those outstanding d=students who went crazy on Jay Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross Beats, most especially the AMA BOSS beat, that beat was outstanding. The question is, HOW DID WE GET THE CHANCE TO FREESTYLE ON THESE BEATS, the answer is simple, and the producers gave us a chance by posting the beats on sites. So what if we would like to freestyle on the instrumentals of the Ugandan hits produced by actually Ugandan Producers. How can we find them? We instead download Instrumentals of other producers who are abroad. One of the tracks I actually still like is African Hustler by Navio. That beat is sick, but I have never free styled to the instrumental cause us Ugandans we don’t share. All the upcoming producers lets change the face of Ugandan Music, lets create that bond, where something fails to work out, lets contact other producer friend for help. And let’s not do it for the money, if an artist isn’t good for a track. Let’s consider the fact of looking for the appropriate genre, I have made beats which have fallen in hands of artists who don’t deserve, but just because the producer wants money, the session is made and the outcome is horrible, so that destroys the taste of music.
The ways how we can grow. Let’s leave this thinking that we can do everything alone. Let the producers interact, we all can learn from each other, Let have projects done by producers i.e., Producer X and producer Y. These producers can bring their brains together and they can produce hitting records, this is all because the producers on the project bring different sounds on the product. Let’s take a look at the super producer, the TRAP MASTER, Lexus Luger, when he gets stuck, he looks for advice from his friends the likes of Southside from 808 Mafia, Boi 1da and T minus, Southside and Dj spin. All these producers produce hit records, this is because they interact with other producers. Thus hit tracks. Producers; doing this is a choice, so you can do what you think is right.
