my belated mother’s day post is a tribute to mamas and history museums !  

TRANSCRIPT:

Curator: In conclusion, we’re grateful to have you here—all of you.

Curator: Our Mother’s Day exhibit has been a labor of love. I hope you see that.

Arnaut: You know Mother Beatriz visited the film set, don’t you? Leonor: {Laughs.} I was with her.

Valencia: This cast is relatively new. A friend of mine did a project on it. Germán: She was pretty hot for her time, huh? Valencia: That’s our grandmother...

Curator: This gown is, of course, a recreation. Beatriz: My grandmother said they burned the original.

Curator: Exactly, my queen. Nearly all of her belongings were destroyed.

Leonor: You looked so much like her. Beatriz: Everyone always told me that. I wanted to look like him. {Chuckles.} I was such a hateful child, just like you.

Leonor: Mama was sweet as child, though, wasn’t she? Beatriz: She was sweet all her life.

Curator: She was a formidable woman. Beatriz: There are few things she was not.

Leonor: Why didn’t they put that wife of yours in the wedding display? Germán: We asked them not to. Leonor: Oh? Why? Germán: I’m not falling for that. You know why.

Beatriz: She loved that car so much. Papa bought her so many, but it was always her favorite. She was a real collector.

Leonor: Is that why you didn’t let Julián have them when he asked? Beatriz: No. I didn’t let him have them because I don’t like him.

Arnaut: Maybe we can give you the set she’s wearing there, too.

Arnaut: I don’t think I’ve seen that one before. Beatriz: It was in my vault. I asked them to display it.

Beatriz: I think of her every day. I say her name every day.

Arnaut: So do we.

Valencia: This gown was a scandal when she first wore it. The color, the cut— Germán: Okay, but what about Mother Beatriz wasn’t scandalous.

Curator: That’s right, my prince. It was not the dress as much as the context. Leonor: A statement dress, literally.

Arnaut: I love you, mama. Beatriz: I love you more.
