what I say: I’m fine
what I mean: in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the ending theme is a sort of positive foreshadowing that follows you throughout the whole show until, in S3E13 The Firebending Masters, you find out that it’s the rythm to the dancing dragon which Aang and Zuko work through together. In that moment, the show makes you fully realize just how much Zuko was destined from the start to be part of Aang’s support and so much more than what he seemed early on in the show. The ending/dancing dragon theme was there from the beginning to hint that the show was not only about Good vs Bad, but that it was also a story about redemption and about how Zuko would have his own part to play but only after he’d gone through his own journey separate from that of a classic villain character chasing after the main protagonist. In this essay I will-

it’s honestly impressive how bryke managed to write not one, but two incredibly compelling love stories that work into the show narratively, symbolically, and narratively…only to completely bungle it in the end

Ok, apologies in advance cause I'm turning into a lil hater.
People ragging on Katara being able to be purely a healer in tlok piss me off so bad.
Bitch, she was 14 in atla. Add onto that. She was a traumatised 14 year old who HAD to fight because the world pushed her into it.
Rewatching atla, Katara's rage and drive are wonderful and iconic and amazing character elements. But not because it's some sort of feminie rage, "stick it to the man" feminist sort of thing (sorry for sounding like a Conservative idk how else to phrase it)
No, it's wonderful because she's a hurt child. Not some aestheticised YA protagonist who gets to go villain mode for a bit.
Katara's rage comes from what has been done to her nation, to her family. Her will to fight is so intense because she has to fight. It's not that she never wanted to heal, since she becomes incredibly adept at it, even after she's allowed to 'train with the boys'. She was upset over being forced to heal not because she didn't want to, but because she had to fight, and ridiculous gender roles were being ridiculous.
Plus, her embracing healing in a time of peace does have some amazing symbolism to it, don't you think?
Too many people just equate healing with misogyny in the Avatar community, when it can and often does symbolise so much more.

i don't think we acknowledge this enough when it comes to legend of korra s3 but Lin was MORE than justified in cutting off Su. like her history PERMANENTLY scarred her face for the rest of her life and their mother just brushed it under the rug and not to mention how Su plays dirty in arguments like bringing up her and Tenzins breakup which was most definitely a really sore subject just so she could get her sister to be emotional
tldr: Lin is the greatest character ever and i love her dearly

The problem with legend of korra is all the interesting characters are side characters. Give me the Lin Beifong show immediately

I cannot believe that this is an actual clip from a full episode of The Legend of Korra that aired on live television and not just a meme someone posted online.

I kinda love Korra struggling with airbending. Airbending is about going with the flow, balance, creativity, and peace. Korra is hot headed and straightforward, she’s impulsive and doesn’t think before she speaks. It’d be so easy to make a water tribe avatar struggle with firebending, but Aang didn’t struggle with earthbending because he was an air nomad. He struggled with earthbending because it was opposite his nature.
Korra has been sheltered her whole life from the world, essentially a prisoner. Being a truly free spirit is totally foreign to her. It completely makes sense she’d struggle, and sets up airbending as tied to republic city itself.

TLOK rewatch thoughts:
I think it is so interesting how this show portrays Aang as a father. I am so excited for the new content to come, but the idea that Aang was subject to the same inadequacies that plague our world is quite a humbling thought. ATLA is truly one of my favorite series and to have to swallow the portrayal of Aang in a different light is a tough pill. But being older now, I appreciate the bold move that TLOK made in making Aang, essentially the greatest avatar ever, a dad who made mistakes.
