So he decides to take an extended holiday in New York for his best friend's wedding.

Jemma loves everything about her life in New York: her friends, the museums, the theatre and, of course, being the very successful CEO of her own company. The only thing missing in her life lately is, well, a sex life.

yosh who was childhood buddies w reader through their parents being friends until reader moved into the city. shit happens, and readers parents make arrangements for reader to come back to town and stay w yosh and his family for a bit on their farm. not rly so much 'reader is banished bc they did something shitty' but 'reader needs to get out of the city for a while and yosh's family was open to let them stay if they'll help out'

its literally been years since reader has seen them since they were caught up in their own life for a while (no biggie, it happens), so they're just relearning the layout of the land and whatnot and one of yosh's sisters is like also we have horses now! :) and yoshi's brushing one of them when reader n his sister show up, and he looks up and sees reader and they both have this moment of !!!! bc they used to be so close?? and he rushes over to hug reader n reconnect for a minute before introducing them to his family's horses and talk about how there's a festival in town in a few weeks and they'll be taking part in it n whatnot. he'll do little kiddie rides with their mini horses, guiding them around, and its cute for pics n stuff

anyway. reader basically gets put to work the next day to help out around the farm. maybe theres talk abt why they left the city for a while after they finally warm up to talking about it. ends in acceptance and a hug that feels like it lasts longer than it should between two ~just friends~ (bc u KNOW yosh's sisters would be teasing him over crushing on reader).

purrhaps. pie contest? that reader enters in? and wins? after baking numerous pies n trying to perfect the recipe w yoshi there to help n taste test for them? and idk reader seeing yoshi interact w local kids who adore him?? and eventually they get the chance to go enjoy the fair together and they get called a couple and neither of them outright deny it.

I want a reverse Hallmark AU.  Dean and Cas both grew up in a small town, and Cas left and got the fancy education and job in New York, while Dean couldn't afford to leave and also stuck behind to take care of Sammy and the Christmas tree farm.  Eventually John passes away, and Sammy goes off to also get an education and a job in NY, and he doesn't want to come home.  Dean comes to visit him in the city in December, but he's busy and Dean's left to his own devices and somehow runs into Cas again.  And Cas treats him to a dreamlike week of NY tourism, and they fall back in love, and Dean's in love with the city even though he never thought he could enjoy a place like that.  Sammy offers to pay for him to go to culinary school, cuz it turns out Dean's always wanted to be a chef, and introduces Dean to Benny who is willing to let him work in his restaurant.  But he says no, because he feels like he should.  He goes back home to the Christmas tree farm, and it feels empty and corporate, and he decides to sell it to some friends who want it and go back to NY.  The sale is still going through, but he heads back to NY just in time for New Year's Eve, and gets a chance to kiss his new rich boyfriend Cas at midnight in Time Square.

An Overdue Rant and a Christmas Fic

I wrote this Hallmark AU last December. It was supposed to be a jokey little one-shot, but man it ate my brain. My average daily word count is 500-1k words a day, and I think I was doing 2k to 5k a day until it was done. I couldn't fuckin stop, and it was glorious.

This is very important to me, because I came to fanfic like a dying traveler comes to an oasis. After the pandemic I became deeply depressed and I developed chronic writer's block. Marketing was an uphill slog, and not being able to go out and socialize at events made it unbearable. When I did go out, the anxiety I felt about COVID made it not fun. I wasn't sure if I was ever going to write again.

Writing fanfiction was a welcome reprieve from all that: no deadlines! No SEO! No depressingly tiny royalty statements! Positive reinforcement with no dollar signs attached! So it was nice, it was fun, but I didn't really get my groove back until I wrote HallMark. That wasn't just fun. That was drive. That was passion. And it was glorious.

After it was done and posted, I couldn't forget about it. I had to know what it was about that story that grabbed me by the brain cells like that. So I went back and read it again, and I read the comments (thank you all kind people you're the best), and I realized that it was about Aziraphale and Crowley, but it was really about my feelings towards how children are raised.

*I'm not going to completely spoil the fic here, but feel free to go read it before we get further bc I'm about to discuss some thematic elements.*

Crowley is raising the Antichrist to be the destroyer of worlds on the surface, but underneath it he cares about the world, and he cares about Adam too. And that is the side of him that Adam responds to, and why he turns out the way he does. And that's what parents don't understand about children. They are only kind of listening to your words. What they respond to, and what nurtures them, is your behavior towards them and towards the world you're raising them in. If you tell your kid that Jesus loves everyone and we should help the poor, but you vote for people who will cut welfare bc you think you'll get a tax break and a new boat, your kid sees you. If you tell your kid that it's a sin to judge others but you glare at a tall woman going into the ladies room bc you think she might be trans, your kid sees you. They might grow up to be an asshole or they might grow up to think that you're one, but either way you lose.

And if you tell your kid that his destiny is to destroy the world and that living things are fit only to be ground under his heels, but you make him sandwiches and worry about him when he's out of your sight and buy him stupid Christmas crap because it makes him happy, your kid might not turn out as evil as you thought.

(don't actually tell your kid he's the Antichrist, btw, this fic is hyperbole for symbolic thematic purposes and not a parenting guide)

Anyway, my point is if you love your kid and treat him right, if you treat other people right, and give him a stable home and maybe a dog if you can afford it, he'll probably turn out pretty much okay. The rest is just flavor.

Parents stress too much about things that don't matter, but it's not our fault. You have to run the gauntlet a couple of times before you can filter out stuff that matters from stuff that doesn't, because the books and guides and parenting classes will just try to scare you about everything. Let me assure you that your baby does not give two shits if you feed with breast or bottle. But your child will remember whether you were happy, and whether you took pleasure in their presence in your life.

So what sucked me in about this fic was the reversal of what I've seen in the real world. My brain conjured a fantasy of someone who's a good parent despite themselves, instead of a bad parent with a church habit and a fat bank account. Of course I had to bring that fantasy into the world. It's how things become real.

I had this idea of Obikin being on this reality dating show like Love is Blind, where the contestants talk to each other through a screen, but don’t get to see each other unless they decide they want to get engaged.

That’s crazy, right? I tried to make it even crazier. After they meet and spend a week together, they would get introduced to each other’s families as fiancés over the winter holidays before they have a wedding in the new year.

Originally, I had wanted to write this for the reverse Hallmark AU, but there wasn’t any reverse troping happening. And it was taking longer than I’d hoped to figure out how Obikin would fall for each other. A lot of the pining I’m used to writing for them is through visual cues, like gazing longingly, wanting to touch the other’s hair, fantasizing about hands. And then my household got hit with covid and I had no time to write. So it just wasn’t coming together.

I had a loose outline, some scenes here and there, but nothing concrete. 😔 Perhaps I can get it together for end of this year?

(reverse dc au) Mike sees Evan as a teenage version of himself and is trying to get his 'past self' to realize how much of a dirtbag he(Michael) is lmao

that's... oh my god. Michael mistaking Evan's kindness toward him for his past self "pretending" to be kind in order to trick him, or maybe Michael thinks his "teenage self" actually believes he's capable of anything other than cruelty and destruction and decides to teach his "teenage self" the hard way that NO, he isn't, and all he will ever be worthy of is punishment and pain.

Maybe Michael hears his "teenage self" claiming to be Evan and is so friggin mad that his "teenage self" would DARE corrupt sweet little Evan's memory with such a blatant lie.

I wonder if there's anything that would ever make Mike realize the truth. Maybe he realizes as Evan is dying; maybe Evan had some surgery or other, and Mike sees the remnants of the surgery while he's ripping Evan apart (similar to Mike's death scene in the og dire consequences au), and he tries comforting Evan in his final moments but Evan's too scared of him for the comfort to work.

Or maybe Mike never finds out the truth, and if Evan's ghost doesn't move on, Evan is stuck trying to hide from Mike for all eternity for fear of what Mike will do if he gets his hands on him.

I can easily imagine Evan being forced to see just how much Mike hates himself, and the lengths Mike is willing to go to torture himself (or his past self), as another form of torture, too. Evan still loves his big brother after everything, and seeing how much Mike hates himself hurts. both emotionally and physically, since Mike is taking that hatred out on Evan. Maybe, if Evan's ghost stays, he risks revealing himself to Michael because he wants to prove to Mike that he doesn't have to hate himself. Whether or not revealing himself is a mistake depends on how angsty I'm feeling, tbh
