Brief Book Review - Murder Under The Mistletoe by The Reverend Richard Coles
A Brief Book Review of Murder Under The Mistletoe by The Reverend Richard Coles.
Released as a hardback edition by W&N ( Weidenfield and Nicolson) in the United Kingdom on 24th October 2024.
A festive gathering . A secret recipe. A Christmas killer..... It's another outing for mystery solving Canon Daniel Clement and his friend DS Neil Vanloo.
This time a with Christmas theme where a mix of different people are eating Christmas dinner at the Champton St.Mary rectory. After dinner there are games and kisses under the mistletoe - when suddenly one guest dies. Can Daniel and Neil solve the mystery ?
Another cosy crime story , somewhat short ( it's a novella) but nevertheless an enjoyable read .

After three special episodes in 2022, it was revealed that David Tennant would take over as the Doctor for the 60th anniversary special, before Ncuti Gatwa took over full-time.
Whittaker previously told RadioTimes.com at the Radio Times Covers Party that she finds it emotional being referenced in current episodes of Doctor Who.
She said: “It’s amazing. It’s so emotional as well because, for us, it was such a present thing. We were in it and we were living it in real time, and now to be part of the canon and reference points, it’s really magical.”
Other roles Whittaker is best known for is as Beth Latimer in Broadchurch, Orla O’Riordan in Time and as Tess in One Night.
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer will be available to watch on Channel 4 later this year.

HIGNFY's Guest Webterview: The Reverend Richard Coles
Tumblr media
HIGNFY: You last appeared as a HIGNFY guest in 1994 - how do you feel returning now 15 years later?
Richard Coles: Bitter and vengeful.
HIGNFY: What stories do you think will be covered this week and how have you been preparing?
Richard Coles: I'm afraid I only see the paper after my neighbour Mr Welsh has finished with it, so I may be a little behind; but this 'credit crunch' looks like it might turn into something.
HIGNFY: Are you looking forward to reforming The Communards with Ian?
Richard Coles: Cometh the hour...
HIGNFY: It's the stuff of legend, you met Jimmy Somerville by chance at a Kings Cross Café - tell me more.
Richard Coles: I'm afraid we told so many lies about how we'd met I can't remember now where and when we actually did meet. It was more likely to have been the café in King Cross than the brothel in Amsterdam, which I once saw in a magazine.
HIGNFY: Don't Leave Me This Way was the UK's biggest selling single of 1986 - how did that feel?
Richard Coles: Very bracing.
HIGNFY: Do you know what the Second highest selling single of 1986 was? It was Nick Berry Every Loser Wins.
Richard Coles: What a great year.
HIGNFY: How far from your life as a Rev are the pictures painted by comedies such as The Vicar of Dibley?
Richard Coles: You mean The Vicar of Dibleyisn't a documentary?

The Reverend Richard Coles on Thatcher's horrifying legacy, and how the British Conservatives tried very hard at the time of her death to take advantage of people's kindness to gaslight them into saying that she was the greatest PM that country had ever had... thus destroying any good will and bringing about the infamous "Thatcher Death Parties."

William Everett Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was a keyboardist, singer, and songwriter whose work encompassed R&B, rock, soul, funk, and gospel. He was a top session keyboardist in the 1960s, during which he backed artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, the Everly Brothers, Reverend James Cleveland, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. He gained attention as a solo artist with hit singles such as “That’s the Way God Planned It”, the Grammy-winning “Outa-Space”, “Will It Go Round in Circles”, “Space Race”, “Nothing from Nothing”, and “With You I’m Born Again”. He co-wrote “You Are So Beautiful”, which became a #5 hit for Joe Cocker.
He is one of only two non-Beatle musicians to be given a credit on a Beatles recording at the band’s request; the group’s 1969 single “Get Back” was credited as “The Beatles with Billy Preston”. He continued to record and perform with George Harrison after the Beatles’ breakup, along with other artists such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones on many of the group’s albums and tours. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Excellence Award category. “Nothing from Nothing” was written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher and recorded by Billy Preston for his album The Kids & Me. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week, becoming his second solo chart-topper in the US.
He was born in Houston and moved to Los Angeles as a child with his mother Robbie Lee Williams. He was self-taught and never had a music lesson. By the age of ten, he was playing organ onstage backing several gospel singers such as Mahalia Jackson. He appeared on an episode of Nat King Cole’s TV show singing the Fats Domino hit “Blueberry Hill” with Cole. He appeared in St. Louis Blues. He played the organ on Sam Cooke’s Night Beat album and released his debut album, 16 Yr. Old Soul. He released the album The Most Exciting Organ Ever and performed on the rock and roll show Shindig! He had a session with Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix, yielding the soul classic dirge “I Don’t Know What You’ve Got”. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Books Incoming: Mid-July edition
I think this might be a first. Hold on to your hats, something amazing has happened. No not quite that amazing, but it’s pretty good: Only two books bought – and I read both of them on holiday so they have not added to the pile! I think this is a complete first. You can read my book of the week review of The Formula here. And the other of course is the third in Reverend Richard Coles’s Canon…
