Excited to share some #AlanParsons shots from #burningMan at Camp #Reverbia this year! This is one of the first times I can remember a major non-EDM music act coming to the burn and from all accounts, it sounds like not only did he participate, but also experienced the playa magic. It sounds like the friendships rekindled during planning for a fun, free concert at burning man may have inspired them to continue the magic and go on tour again, much like all our connections inspire many of us to make and celebrate our art. It was really wonderful to see them having so much fun in concert, AND to hear "eye in the sky" out at burning man. Been attempting to develop a cartoon pitch for the last four years. It’s a mix of traditional fantasy tropes mixed with modern music culture and some influences of synthwave aesthetic surrounding a cartoon band.
I like to call this idea ‘Tales of Reverbia’ or ‘Justice Bards’.
Think Dungeons & Dragons, Adventure Time meets Jem & The Holograms, a little Steven Universe, some late 80s/early 90s shows, and some obscure manga to name a few things. Sure it’s not the most original concept, but I like to think I have a fresh perspective to the musical world themes at least. The idea was sort of sparked by several deaths of music legends and thoughts of what the next generation would have to do in the industry to make their mark in a world that has already seen a lot. Although I want to explore various genres, I like to think the band itself would eventually find it’s sound in alt/indie electronic/synthpop. Think M83′s Junk album, St Lucia, The 1975, Borns, etc.; and though many similar concepts view dance music, EDM, electronic-based sounds as an opposing concept or deemed “lame” cause the power of rock, I instead write this within a political and scientific era where society is trying to discover how it could benefit it beyond entertainment and action.
The story follows Leaf Kid, a young prodigy with much to learn about growing up, running away from his small isolated hometown, dreaming of honing his magical and musical abilities to one day become a big star in Reverbia. Leaf has big ambitions, and wants to be a legend, sung about through the ages.
Though many of the baddies lurking in the shadows may see nothing more than a helpless punk kid at a glance, they're in for a rude awakening when they ‘tango’ with this brilliant phenom!
Wielding a magic keyboard stolen from his hometown, Leaf Kid uses this peculiar instrument to take on monster slaying, item hunting, and performing at local dives; and gaining four new friends and bandmates along the way, including Spiral-- the protective ‘big sister’ techie who plays the sax (which can also convert into a large hammer during battle), sent to bring Leaf and the magic keyboard back home, Dee-- An eccentric rouge punk rocker on drums with as much talent as she has secrets, Arpeggio-- a prince of a fallen kingdom and guitarist from an overthrown kingdom whose guitar can form into a blaster weapon, attempting to rise from the ashes, and Teion-- Gio’s wise yet apprehensive royal bodyguard skilled in bass and bushido, torn between his former role and individuality. Together they form the band of unlikely allies: ‘Justice Bards’, a traveling rock band dedicated to saving the day between gigs.
While the real heroes are out on sidequests fulfilling their completionist duties, the perils this band will have to face beyond sound check will be far more dangerous. They must fight even bigger monsters, fend off bad musicians, save towns and cities, honor ‘The Muses’ themselves, avoid music producers pushing them into making record deals with the devil, hunt for ancient spelltunes, prevent zombie boybands from infecting the rest of the world with earworms, discotheque dungeon raids, make the public woke on the subject of megastores attracting customers with subliminal siren calls, and even discover a threat to the very existence of Reverbia only they themselves have the chance to defeat: The dark and mysterious figure known only as Mute’; a man who takes the term “video killed the radio star” a bit too seriously when bringing his own brand of order to a chaotic world of magic and music.
One of these days I’ll make it a thing...
