BELATED asura appreciation week day 1 - talk about one of your asura ocs! i had a busy week but there's never a bad time to talk about my guys lmfao

gunner is my main character and is also my commander! he has a non-commander au as well but i mostly think about the commander version. don't let his appearance fool you-- he's about 185 years old right now, the mists just kind of pickled him

he's a rata novan who ended up getting hurled into the mists due to uncontained ley energy overloading the portal he was traveling through while trying to escape the chak. after escaping the mists, he got his masters in synergetics, had a brief stint in the inquest researching the mists/eternal alchemy, accidentally blew up a lab after making his collider go supercritical, hid out briefly in the maguuma wastes, and then fled into the fractals to lay low while being a fractal explorer. in commander au, he's eventually caught by the peacemakers and then sort of leashed to zojja (in the same way canach was to anise) and sucked into the personal story timeline from there on

the freak accident w/ the portal left him with permanent physical-magical-spiritual scarring, and on top of turning him into a revenant, it 'blew open' the ley channels within his own body. he's unable to properly regulate his own magical flow and soaks up uncontained magic like a sponge, with his condition worsening over time as more gods and dragons are killed

the extra magic has some perks and is why he's been able to so "easily" hold himself in combat as the commander, buuuut if he isn't careful, he hits critical mass and his body attempts to purge all of the excess magic at once. the magic trying to vacate forcefully is extremely painful and incapacitates him for awhile, and is super dangerous to anyone around him. he usually gets warning signs prior to this happening in the form of vertigo, headaches, and 'auras' (physically seeing ley anomalies and magical flows). the different pieces of tech built into his armor are regulators (built by one of his "coworkers") that are supposed to help slowly diffuse the magic out over time to prevent this. this 'ability' has won him a few fights, but the cost is high.

he's trans + gay

he has adhd and tourette's syndrome. both of those get worse the more magic he has in his body (or the more stressed he is lol)

he has ley magic and spectral agony scarring all over the right side of his body

mallyx and shiro are his canon legends, kalla sometimes comes and goes at will

he obtains astralaria during heart of thorns, and he ALSO has a canon nevermore that he gets during icebrood saga

his name is technically gunn but he just plain prefers going by gunner and that's effectually become his name

he had Normal Organs at the start of PS but over time his magical corruption has turned his innards/mouth/teeth a glowy kaiju blue

Gore AU

Robin:

Gore AU Robin is a lot more ‘savage’ than the canon, not just in appearance but in behaviour. He rarely speaks and is mostly completely silent, mainly communicating via growling, groaning and panting. But when provoked he is extremely loud and aggressive. The only ghost who can seemingly ‘calm’ him down is Mary, but even then, he won’t speak. He rarely comes in the house and prefers to stay outside, mainly in areas where there are places to hide. He’s rarely seen during the day, even by the other ghosts; he’s so obscure to them that they never even got the chance to rename him ‘Robin’, leading them to just refer to him as ‘the savage’.

His posture is a lot different as well. Sometimes he can be spotted walking low to the ground leaning down on his knuckles like an ape, or even walking on all fours completely. When he DOES walk on two legs, his back is hunched and he has difficulty holding his head up straight. His skin is littered with scars from when he met his demise from the lightning, but along with those scars are the scars he received from the bear attack. Gore AU Robin had a ‘Revenant’ moment of sorts with the bear before it turned away to finish off the remains of the other hunters, during which time, Robin took the opportunity to flee. Then came the tree. The bear managed to get a few good swipes at him as he climbed, tattering his furs and ripping his skin beneath them.

He had been rendered almost half deaf; His brain is still sizzling inside his skull from the lightning strike, consider it like Tinnitus, he can constantly hear the sound in his head, literally in his head.

Rare moments where he is peaceful mainly involve either Mary or a child/baby. In those moments he will be quiet and almost nurturing; Gore AU Robin never evolved as much as Canon Robin did, so he is forever stuck in a permanent loop of remembering his responsibilities to protect children, seeing adults as threats.

Mary:

Gore AU Mary is almost more like a banshee than a ghost; like Gore AU Robin, she is almost completely silent, but unlike Gore AU Robin, that is by choice. She no longer wants to use her voice to explain, or to plead her innocence, she wants to use it to frighten men away. Mary is a lot more vengeful and hate filled, becoming a poltergeist to any man who sets foot on the land. Her furious screams can be heard from any direction from anywhere in the house or on the grounds.

Unlike canon Mary, Gore AU Mary is completely burnt to a crisp, her skin charred and flaking like burnt leaves. Her clothes are reduced to rags and her hair is burned off, her head is mostly only covered by her bonnet. The only indication that she is a woman is her figure; her shoulders and hips are the same width, but her waist is cinched slightly beneath her charred apron.

She, like Robin, rarely speaks to any of the other ghosts, aside from Fanny and Kitty. She communicates nonverbally with Robin, the two sharing a love language of sorts. Mainly through eye contact and hand motions. Mary had a habit of speaking with her hands while she was alive, something she still does in death, and she uses it to her advantage to settle down the caveman if he gets restless.

Because of the constant noise in Robin’s head deafening him, Mary can do little to talk him down from his moments of crazed paranoia and aggression, so lulling him with actions is the only thing she can do. Holding his face in one hand while slowly waving her other hand in front of his eyes like a soft flame; almost the equivalent of someone dangling a pocket watch in someone’s face to hypnotise them.

The topic of children is bittersweet to Gore Au Mary, although she would never bring herself to frighten a child, she actively avoids them if they end up in the house at all. Especially if the child was a little girl, Mary would become a grim angel of sorts and guide them away from any danger they may face.

As its Desmonds Birthday, I'm going to upload an old fic with him in it, and also a varient if my OC, Red Jordan-Ryan

This one was an AU set in a universe where Desmond was Mechanic, Red is not a time traveler and never left home or changed her name, her cousin is a twin, and oh yah its set in the xman verse, and Desmond has Charles power, Red is Reven, and Aiden is Magneto, at least powerwise if not personality.

Sometimes Desmond likes to play hero. Mostly he uses his talent to avoid, to hide. He knows when someone sees him, and exactly what they think about him. He works at an auto body shop in Chicago. Mostly they internally bitch at him over prices.

He's on vacation. Exploring Quebec , and struggling with the pronunciation even if he can find the words he needs in their minds.

He steps into the connivance store to prevent a robbery, to talk a situation down.

He didn't expect anything to come of it.

Carnelian is like him. Her talent is changing.  She is the shift.

She shifts forms as easily as breathing.

Unshifted, she is pale blue, with eyes like silver and hair like gold.

He finds himself helping her. She's a child, and for all her cousin loves her, she doesn't know how to help her fit in.

Desmond does. They sit at the window and people watch , and he tells her about them. Tells her about trends and fashion and how other people blend in.

Before he goes, she decides her main shift. It consists of vibrantly blonde hair, dark blue eyes, tan skin, and it has a scar on her lip.

He's a bit confused that out of any detail that she would use from him, she chose that, but she is notoriously stubborn.

He gives her his email, and they exchange letters regularly.

Until he disappears.

Carnelians main male alter ego, contains traits from her cousins and from Desmond.

If anyone were to ask, she's not sure whether she would claim to be their cousin or their kid.

She has his coloring, with her features.

She's never told them about this male alter.

She never tells them about a lot of things she gets up to.

For all that she  will practice Javelin with Monique, and critique Derek's buildings, and religiously email Desmond, but she has her own hobbies too.

Probably not ones they would approve of, particularly hacking.

She's learning. She has a talent for computers, and its fascinating stuff.

Her contacts build up, lawful and lawless.  She calls this Alias "Ghost", because none of her contacts ever see the same face or persona.

Maybe it will get her killed someday.

She likes to think she is more careful then that.

She has IDs set up if they need to disappear.  She's worried about Desmond, he's being followed. They've never talked about it, but sometimes Monique will insist on being with him, and Derek will "insist" Desmond stay another night, because tonight would be "terrible for driving" .

She's not stupid.

She doesn't know what "They" want with Desmond,  but she does know she is in the best position to do something when "They" come.

She can be anyone, after all.

She will be anyone, to help Desmond get away. She owes him, after he helped teach her to blend enough to be around people.

He's sort of family at this point, and there isn't a lot she wouldn't do for family.

It's one of Carnelian's contacts in Chicago that tells them Desmond has disappeared.

Derek and Monique are going to have to have a chat with Carnelian, about just what she gets up to in her spare time, because contacts..? When did she get contacts.  What Does she need with all these connections, and fake IDs.

Just because she can shift, doesn't mean she needs to use it for this. What is she planning? 

But first, Desmond. Where did he disappear to?

Carnelian already had people on that.

Aiden Pearce was a fixer, who Carnelian had never met, but heard was talented and willing to work, but also extremely antisocial. He also occasionally fancied himself a hero, and Carnelian was hoping this trait would work in their favor when she agreed to meet him in person to exchange information.  Or maybe Brenks would be useful at least.  He was good when paid

Derek was going to meet these fixers with her. It was going to be expensive, but there was no way they were going to let their friend be kidnaped.  Particularly not a mutant. Not in this kind of environment. Would anyone else even look if they knew?

"I can be intimidating enough, Derek," Carnelian complained again. She shifted into a tall muscled man. "I can be anyone and everyone.  I could probably be Aiden, and get the information myself, provided I do a job. I hear he gets a lot of leeway to be rude, because they are aware he's talented, and hope for him to owe them one."

"You're not doing that, Carnelian."

"But-"

"For the last time, I'm coming with you. You can be a scary looking man if you want, but I'm still coming."

She went and sat in the driver's seat, and shifted into a man.

"You're not driving. You're too young to drive. "

" I have a license."

"What lunatic gave you a license?!"

"Hey! This one is legit. I went to school for it."

"This one is legit?" How many forged licenses does she have!

"Just get in the car."

Derek got in the car, for lack of any better options. He could spend the ride asking her what other highly illegal activities she has been up to.

Damien had to admit, It was strange to be involved in a missing persons case.  Normally, they went through proper channels for these, but Ghost was known for paying well for quality work. And Aiden had insisted on meeting him.  Which was unusual.

There were several mismatched descriptions of his appearance, and while ghost was known as a decent hacker, his disguise abilities were why he was hired, when he took Jobs anyways.

So what did he want with Desmond Miles?

Desmond's Id was fake. Oh, he had no doubt that the guy's name was real, but a bit of digging revealed a lot of holes in it. For Ghost to reach out to so many people about his disappearance, had to mean something important.

He had asked for a face to face meeting to talk.  Face to face encounters could be very informative. People were easier to read these days, and he wanted to see Ghosts disguise skills in action. He might be someone worth working with in the future if this went well. 

He frowned at his coffee.  It was running low, and Aiden still wasn't here. What the hell was he even doing?

He got up to get more coffee. Aiden could pay for his own damn coffee when he was this late.

When he got back to his table, Aiden was there with two unknown men.

One was a tall skinny blond ,  where the other was short, muscular , and darker than his companion. They both wore jeans and cool gray hoodies.

Aiden was frowning at the taller one. Aiden is fingering a metal memory stick,  and the last thing Damien wants is for a fight to break out between them in a public cafe. So many witnesses.

The shorter male turns around, and fingers an envelope, before tucking it back into his sweater.

"You must be Damien."

"And you are."

"I am Ghost. And this is Interceptor."

'Interceptor' shot him a dark look. Apparently they had failed to talk this over before arriving.

"Now ,what happened to Desmond Miles."

Ghost was unexpectedly blunt. This was not how he was used to information drops going.

Aiden, however, laughed. He waved a memory stick at Ghost. Ghost in turn waved $500 at him.  Interceptor offered a laptop, and Aiden inserted the memory stick, and snagged the bills.

Ghost and Interceptor watched the footage they had gotten of Desmond's kidnapping.

"What do you know of Abstergo?"

Ghost asked.

"Officially they are electronics and entertainment. Gary  once told me that he once was writing a book on the CIA, and mentioned that Abstergo has interests in every large company across the  planet."

"Can I talk to Gary?"

"Gary died in 2004, and all his notes disappeared ."

"That seems suspicious."

"It does, doesn't it."

"So, officially Desmond was kidnaped by the TV company."

"Perhaps they needed a cheap mechanic."

"Haha. Very Funny." Ghost told him Deadpan.

"Why is Desmond so important to you anyways? He's a mechanic, and beyond his fake Id, he doesn't seem to be particularly interesting"

"He's... Talented alright."

"Ah"

"And almost family.  So, where do you think he has been taken?"

Aiden stared hard at Ghost.

"Pay up the rest. "

"Yah, yah."

He handed over the envelope , and Aiden checked it, before handing over half to Daimon.

"Kent, Ohio. I have a map of the route they took on this stick."

Ghost took the memory stick.

"Thank you."

Interceptor packed up the laptop.

Aiden caught Ghost before he left the booth." I assume you are going for a plan with infiltration, first, but would you say no to backup?"

Ghost smiled. "At what price."

"Warren Vidics . I'll get you a password, if you can get his card, and a good disguise."

Ghost gave him a thumbs up. "Hell yeah. You've had us covered, right?"

"Just who do you think you are talking to?" Aiden asked, mock offended.

"Where shall we meet up later?"

"Remember that Coffee shop in Fort Wayne."

"Sounds like a good place to switch cars."

"See you there then."

Ghost and Interceptor left, and Damien stole Aidens hat to get his attention.  While Aiden glared at him, Damien asked his question.

"What the Hell is going on?"

Aiden Pearce had a way with metal.

It wasn't something he went out of his way to show off.  Mutants were not looked on favorably , to say the least.

It had interesting uses in his line of work. His shots were more accurate, he wasn't in the habit of getting hit by bullets, it did some interesting things to cars, and it made locks impossible or open without his say-so.

He didn't use his "Talent" more creatively, unless he was off camera.

That's when he met Carnelian.

He had  frozen his pursuers in place  by dropping their pants by the Zipper, stolen their  guns and shot them with them, when he heard a voice comment on it.

"Hey that was pretty cool? Are you some kind of telekinetic?"

He had turned his gun on the man, and he had been pretty sure he was alone, and was not about to have the secret blown now.

"Woah buddy!  I'm not bulletproof! watch where you point that thing. "

He hadn't been amused."

"I am the last person in the world who would talk about something like that."

The man had insisted.

The man was now a woman.

"I think we can work something out", she insisted, before she became his doppelgänger.

"This ought to be suitably confusing, right." She had insisted, in his voice.

Well, he had no intention of shooting him after that.

Once he was back in the safe house , he turned to the unknown, whose zipper was not real, or so his metal "sense" told him.

"So, let's work something out." He told the man.``

Desmond was working on the Abstergo scenario. He knew Lucy had orders to eventually get him out after he gave them what they wanted, though he was not sure where her loyalties lay. He was also aware Viddic wasn't kidding with his coma threats. He was working with them, hoping to get out of this situation with everyone intact, and disappear again.

He was dubious of his ability to last that long. It was bad enough hearing everyone's thoughts in the present. All the time in the Animus has given him access to the thoughts of people in the past.  What's more , his ancestors " talent" was showing up in the present. Sometimes his eyes would glow gold, and show him secrets. Sometimes he thought he heard the Animus talking to him.

Sometimes in his waking moments, he was Altaïr.

Some days, he thought he heard Carnelian asking him to get Viddic's Wallet for her. She told him she had a plan to get him out of there. She kept asking him to log into a Runescape account she had set up, and go onto a chat with her.

But Carnelian was supposed to be in Quebec.

And her voice in his head kept telling him how to Log into Vidic's computer.

Something had to give.

So, after a particularly long session, when he was supposed to be asleep, he went to the computer, and Logged in

"Des, what the Hell Kept you?" RockinRed4012778 demanded.

No really Dude, I've been calling out to you for days, and you weren't doing anything about it. I've been in the chat for days, you should be able to hear me.

Did whatever they've had you doing ,scramble your brains completely?

"Your in" he types

-"Yes" she thinks. "Send me a face so  I know you comprehend me."

"Good"

-"She thinks.

-"Not tomorrow, but the day after,  Viddic and Lucy have a meeting, at seven PM. I'm going to get someone to delay Lucy long enough that I can come in as her, get you, and Go. "

"Do you think you can get me Viddic's bank cards?

"Why" he typed

"I promised someone a favor for this."

It probably won't be hard to get that with his pick pocketing skills, if Viddic has it on him.

"If he has it." He types

"He will," she assures him.

She keeps expecting something to go wrong. For someone to demand to know what she's doing.

Nothing happens.

She gets Desmond, he holds up the cards, and off they go.

It's bizarre.

Not even her bank Robbery, where she takes the bank card Desmond got her, goes to the bank as Viddic, and withdraws everything with the password Aiden got her, goes off without a hitch.

She gives Aiden most of the money, and they Drive off to meet Monique at Hell, Michigan.

She supposes This is Monique's expressing displeasure at staying behind for this adventure.

"Remember How you wanted to live in New Brunswick, once"

Derek looks over at his little cousin in confusion.

"What does this have to do with anything?"

"I think you guys should go there. You have the money, after all."

"What are you getting at?"

"I'm thinking you should marry Desmond, have him take our last name, and more importantly Canadian citizenship, and have him add our new fortunes to your accounts, under his temporary false name. Because the two of you are afraid aunt Eleanor and Uncle David won't be understanding of your Sexuality, the two of you eloped and went to New Brunswick."

"I'm not Gay, Kiddo."

"I know. You don't have a type.  

"Why did you even suggest this then," Derek asks, looking back at the sleeping Desmond drooling on the window.

"He's family. I want the world to know it. I want him to be a cousin. "

"He already is family."

" I know. It just seemed to be a pretty good idea. No one could question it that way."

"They always will kiddo. Why didn't you suggest Monique. She actually likes Men."

"And have her give up Javelin, to go into hiding?"

"Do you think even that would get in the way of her  Javelin training? Or throwing sports in general."

"Might make it hard for her to be the world champion."

"We will figure something out kiddo."

We spent the rest of the drive talking about plans."

When Monique saw Derek and Desmond walk into screams Ice cream, she gave them each a bear hug .

"I still don't understand Why you didn't take me?"

"It was a stealth mission, Monique"

"I can be stealthy. "

"Sure you can."

"I brought the stuff. "

"We've switched cars a few times. Let's drive this one somewhere else to drop it , and then stick to your car.  How does living in Ontario sound Desmond  Ryan?"

"Ryan"

"You're going to be a cousin. We will work out the legalities."

"How does Sudbury sound?"

"I can be a mechanic in Sudbury. Just so long as it doesn't require me to fake an accent. "

"Keep your nose clean."

"Carnelian, we have a lot to talk about, in that department, regarding your hobbies."

"Yes I have some useful hobbies, don't I."

"Kid. Quit while you're ahead."

Desmond Advised.

"You have some explaining to do."

Monique insisted.

"First off , I'd like to ask why you never outright let me be involved in the plans about "the people who follow Desmond."

"Nope, we asked first. Start talking Kiddo."

"Zut"

so, you know adam frankenstein doesn't have stitches in the book and he wasn't brought to life by electricity, right?

The book was pretty vague about the monster's creation and doesn't tell us exactly how Adam was made so I have my own headcanon and it does involve electricity. In my AU he's actually alive because Victor applied his science based on the concepts of Galvanism to Imhotep's ancient alchemy. Just because of the nature of the universe I created for my story Adam's backstory had to be adjusted to fit with the lore. At one point in Adam's design I had actually given him lichtenberg scars all over his body instead of the "classic" stitches but they were such a pain in the ass to draw I decided to localize them to a single, branching streak running down his spine.

As for the stitching? Even if it's not canon it made sense to me that if Victor was going to give him skin he'd need to cut and sew it to fit around the body. I also headcanon that not all of Adam's parts are human, due to the need to make him 8 feet tall I imagined that Victor must have taken some bones, organs and other sundry bits from animals. For my interpretation it's important that Adam really is a thing that should never have happened and even other zombies and revenants in the universe aren't like him. Not even Selma, after she's brought back, can be said to be one of his own kind. I am not, and never will be, a purist when it comes to media and I don't think pop culture or adaptations that change the story are inherently bad. Ultimately, my version of the creature is not based on a singular piece of media and for my own interpretation and I like the imagery that comes with lightning and electricity.

Anyway this got kind of long winded so TLDR: My Adam is not canon Adam but my own adaptation and I have done with it what I wanted and what suits my story.

Gw2 buttercups au where scar is a revenant who can channel not some dead legends and heroes from the past, no, he channels his dead friends.

He chooses who he's channeling depending on how annoying they are being at the moment.

Or also when he needs them. Mumbo is great for when Scar needs to think technical stuff. When he needs to figure out how things work, how to make things work, how to fix stuff. Grian is good for fights and when he needs to make sudden decisions and needs to act right away.

For some context on how revenants work: revenants can channel the powers of legends from the past. They use their abilities to their advantage. The dead people they channel aren't actually with them, it's more like their echo.

So in this au, both grian and Mumbo would be dead. When Scar hears them talk sometimes and when he replies back them- their voices are just their echoes in his head. No one else can hear them.

Under the first rainy nightfall within Mor Dohna, Pyxis' bed lay empty. They had promised the group that they would rest after the long day's travel, even retiring to their inn room before the others, but had lain awake. Returning close to home after so many years away, it was impossible to wait until the morning light. It didn't help that their intrepidation had been dampened by darkened expressions at every turn. Optimism could only take them so far; they had to know. 

There were no graveyards. As to be expected.

The long shadows around Revenant's Toll cast creeping doubts as the Raen shifted between them, a brown woollen cloak pulled around their figure. If anyone caught them, not just a member of the Scions, they would ask questions Pyxis didn't want to reveal the answer to. Suspicious was better than obvious right now.

Admittedly, the extra journey took longer than they would have cared for, but at least they could snap back to the Aetheryte for a hasty return - counting on it being too late for anyone to be keeping vigil to be spotted coming back. The aches of the day weighed them down more than they cared for, eyes half lidded behind rain streaked glasses as they kept a careful watch.

Where familar trees once stood were still battle scarred grounds, metal scraps viciously overgrown with rust and greenery as the land steadily reclaimed what was theirs. What should have been soft undergrowth swelling with the excess waters of the downpour had been replaced with toughened earth, puddles of rainwater sitting at the surface yet unable to be absorbed. As Pyxis pulled the cloak tighter around them, harsh winds whipping up at their feet, there was only one thing that had remained. 

A rosewood staff protruded from a seeingly arbitrary scrap of land. No other landmark noted the location as particularly special, but to see that only time had grown over the piece brought a comforted smile to Pyxis' face. They didn't know how he had done it, but stubbornness seemed to have persisted even after his passing. Kneeling down before the makeshift headstone, Pyxis bowed their head in a silent prayer. To thank him for remaining even after all this time. 

Standing up once more, the Au Ra reached under their cloak to unhook two wands from their belt. One was adorned with a chain of blue flowers, frozen in time during the peak of their bloom. Plump, red berries hung from tightly wrapped twine aroune the other. Favourite colours, favoured embelishments. Shaking hands stabbed the offerings into the harsh earth beside the embedded staff, then built up small mounds to allow the new soil to accept the additions. The three magic items leant each other, each protecting the other. 

"I hope you will watch over them well, my dear friend."

May I raise you some AuriOri AU tonight? I’m having too much fun with them so here’s the lore (drawing mostly from VtM v20):

Aurien and Orion Grimaldi are born into the family of revenants and are based in Italy. I'm thinking 1735. So it's the same age as original/elf Aurien. Their family are in service to the Tzimisce and the Sabbat, as usual to canon.

At around puberty, the Grimaldi family is blood bound to a vampire to keep them loyal. The twins decide to circumvent this ritual formality since they were meant to be bound to different vampires. The Tzimisce don't deign to pay close enough attention, so they swap places with each other throughout the process. Rather than being fully bound to a single vampire, they are lesser bound to two vampires. The blood bond fades with time, and since no one but them knows how they cheated the system, they end up secretly without a blood bond. Into their young adulthood or whatever that would be to a revenant, another Tzimisce begins to take a fancy to the twins and begins to groom them for the Embrace. This includes a lesser blood bond (since it's assumed they're fully bound to others) and some fucking around with their body with that Vicissitude of theirs. In usual fashion for their storylines, Aurien realizes and decides with time that they want nothing to do with the Embrace and wants to abandon the family. Orion, of course, decides they like the idea of the Embrace and abandoning their humanity to become a Kindred. Their sire-to-be is of a low generation, so they would be as well.

It's the night of Orion's Embrace when Aurien finally makes their move. They had tried and failed to convince Orion to run away with them, and it's Orion who stands in their way as they try to leave. It isn't much of a fight, but the newly-embraced Orion instinctively uses their Vicissitude and 'scars' the upper part of Aurien's face, where their right eye is (the same in every other AU).

Aurien escapes to the church and finds some safety there. They meet with Hunters and want the training to join them. It's obvious they had a run-in with a Tzimisce and survived, so they're accepted and kept under watch during their training. Decades pass, they meet and fight with an ever-improving Orion, and others of the church begin to notice that they are slow to age and quick to heal. Since it's heresy to use vitae to give yourself the power of a ghoul, Aurien leaves voluntarily to keep from causing problems within the group. They're doing everything they can though to age closer to a human's rate.

Their main mentor was a woman who goes by Ms. Florence. She was the first to notice that Aurien wasn't a human, but she showed no suspicion towards them for it and treated them the same as everyone else. She was the one who inspires Aurien to continue to hold onto their own humanity, and they take her name as their own surname to honor her after they were unable to save her in a fight against another Kindred.

It's in the 1980s when they meet a young child whose family had been killed by a Kindred, which they'd gone to hunt. Rather than leave the child, Vio, or drop him off to be taken into foster care or something, they choose to take care of him themself. They choose to hide the fact that they're a revenant and the twin of a vampire and try to let Vio lead any other normal life, but he chooses to follow in their footsteps as a Hunter anyway. It's in Vio's first meeting and fight with Orion that he finally learns the truth, both through some banter inappropriate for the moment and seeing Aurien's speedy revenant healing in action.

This is where in the usual writing Vio feels betrayal, but I have decided that this Vio saw the difference between Aurien's humanity and Orion's lack thereof. At Aurien's disgust at Orion's continued proposals and obsession with Embracing Aurien even if they have to blood bond them. So Vio sees Aurien's struggle for humanity and chooses to stand by them.

tldr of this AU: themes of Orion abandoning their humanity and Aurien struggling desperately to hang on to it despite being born a monster and everyone suspecting them. Orion wants to bring Aurien to their side by force if necessary and Aurien has resigned themself to having to murder their twin since there's only a rumor of a substance that can make a vampire human again. Orion maybe commits diablerie and eats their sire. Despite everything Orion looks like an elf and Aurien manages to look in their 50s despite being like 260 years old. Vio is there.

YUME SHIP QUESTIONS: HAURCHEFANT & KYLER EDITION

PSA: Kyler’s nickname for Haurchefant is “Haure.” It sounds almost like “aura” but with a softer initial sound.

1. Kyler and Haurchefant meet just as they do in MSQ, with Kyler bearing a letter of introduction from Francel to him. Haurchefant, being weak for attractive adventurers as it is, appreciates him immediately.

2. Kyler's first impression of Haure is that he is shockingly helpful and generous with his time. The other Ishgardians he'd met were...markedly not, so it was a surprise. Kyler's current impression is that he's whimsical, passionate, stubborn, selfless, and so incredibly loving.

3. Haure's first impression of Kyler was that he was beautiful, reserved, courteous. His current impression, of course, is that he is "hope incarnate". He stands by it. But also that he's sweet, and giving (too giving), protective, and deeply caring.

4. Kyler's love for Haurchefant crept up on him. One day he was just... in it, deeply, and he can't point to a moment or an epiphany.

5. Haurchefant realized he loved Kyler in a moment of sheer panic, when he learned of the awful risks he was taking when he went to fight Saint Shiva. It was too much for him to bear, the thought he might not get to tell him, hence his having to be restrained by six of his knights...

6. They got together when Haure convinced Kyler to stay the night in Dragonhead during a storm rather than go on to Revenant's Toll. He brought him boozy hot cocoa and they relaxed by the fire, just the two of them, and Kyler got the courage to kiss him. There’s a fic of this!

7. One of Kyler's favorite things about Haurchefant is his enthusiasm, how animated he gets when he talks about something he cares about. One of Haure's favorite things about Kyler is seeing him let his guard down and even be a little playful, his laugh. Moreso because it can be rare.

8. One thing they have in common is how much they both enjoy caring for animals and riding/flying.

9. Kyler and Haurchefant can both get equally fired up about exclusion on every conceivable scale. They've both experienced it in different ways. (If you get them both going they can talk for hours; Aymeric calls them "his revolutionaries" when they're like this.)

10. Kyler primarily expresses his love through touch, attention, and, increasingly, words (he's learning!). He truly loves hearing Haure talk and does his best to reciprocate and tell him stories of his travels.

11. Haure primarily expresses his love through words and touch. It's common for him to sit beside Kyler on a couch and draw Kyler's legs into his lap, or lightly tickle/trace whatever part of him is in reach. He also makes a habit of kissing Kyler's scars, again, within reach.

12. Who wakes up first in the morning? Trick question. Haurchefant has a steady sleep schedule and will wake consistently at the same time. Being in command of a post will do that to a man. Kyler ranges from light sleeper to terrible insomniac, so when he sleeps and wakes is ever in flux.

13. Haurchefant absolutely talks more than Kyler.

14. Who is the more affectionate one? Bunk question. They are equally affectionate in different ways. Haure is more verbal, more obvious from an observer’s standpoint. Kyler is subtler but no less demonstrative.

15. Their perfect date is flying out to some lovely location, on airship or Chocobo, and having a picnic. Or getting up to mild mischief. Haure has a mischievous streak a malm wide and spending time with him makes Kyler more playful.

16. What kind of place would they enjoy traveling to together? Literally anywhere they’re together. Haurchefant is nothing if not excitable and any place that Kyler wants to take him he’s happy to go. Kyler likes taking him new places because he gets so excited, so they feed into each other and go on excursions as often as they can.

19. Who apologizes first after a fight depends on the fight, though neither of them are slow to apologize. Of the entire polycule, Kyler and Haurchefant have had the most practice communicating with each other as partners and that shows.

20. Have you designed fankids for them? What are they like? What do you mean, Alphinaud and Alisaie are Kyler’s kids. Joking aside, Kyler has never pictured himself with a child. If one or more of the others wanted it, he’d possibly be willing, but he would be PLAGUED by insecurities re: being a bad parent. Haure would tell him he’s doing fine.

21. What was a defining moment in their relationship? Their first emotional confrontation, which was also when Haure confessed his love. Also, when Kyler told him about his (dysfunctional) prior relationship with Thancred and how he wished it had been (ie functional polyamory) and it blew Haure’s perceptions of what love could be open.

22. What animals would they be? Easy, Haure’s a Chocobo and Kyler’s a Wolf.

23. Haurchefant and Kyler are evenly sensitive. Both are...mostly...well adjusted with exteriors that tend to belie how deeply they feel. Haurchefant has more anger than he shows. Kyler has more pain, panic, and rage than he shows. They’ve become good at listening to/being there for each other.

24. Haurchefant is the better cook.

25. Neither are picky, used to soldier’s and traveling rations are they are respectively, but Kyler’s favorite meal is a good old fashioned pot pie and his favorite treat is, of course, Haurchefant’s hot cocoa. I think Haurchefant has a soft spot for croissants.

26. Haurchefant has approximately nine thousand ideas for All Saint’s Wake costumes and Kyler is happy to go along for the ride, to make him happy.

27. Kyler always struggles with gifts. He wants them to be meaningful and tends to overthink, but at some point he does, in fact, get Haurchefant his own horse and that makes up for all his hesitancy. Haure loves getting Kyler practical things, new journals, gear, clothes.

28. Valentione’s? OH YOU’D BEST BELIEVE HAURCHEFANT GOES ALL OUT. Flowers, sweets, a nice bottle of spirits,  some kind of outing (whether it be a party or just the two of them). Again, Kyler can struggle with gifts but he always comes up with something, usually something from a far-off place.

29. Who handles the cold better? Haurchefant runs hotter but handles extreme temperatures better. Kyler doesn’t mind the cold but is wary of the heat, since he was found in the middle of the desert with sunstroke and no memories but his own name at the beginning of ARR.

30. Haure gets sick more often but it’s less dramatic. Kyler seldom gets sick but when he’s ill it’s BAD. Kyler is the type to isolate himself because he doesn’t want to give it to others, but Haure doesn’t listen. Haure’s the type that when very ill wants comfort and attention. In both cases, apply blankets, soup, lots of water, and company. The lattermost in the form of whoever is well sitting beside the other, with a hand rested on the other’s shoulder or back or gently playing with their hair.
