Raine and Reuben Von Dou are two of my OC’s from my novel Disobey - they’re twins, and they both end up getting shipped off to marry royalty lmao.

Raine is the main protagonist, but Reuben is definitely a close second, since the two of them are around each other for the majority of the book. they’ve both been forced to live in this castle together with people they don’t like, all whilst trying to hide the fact that they are immortal, blood-sucking beings from the public that they are now suddenly forced to show their faces to.

Raine is a lesbian, and this point comes up quite a lot. she struggles with her sexuality throughout the book, until she meets Harper Bain, who she falls in love with despite being betrothed to her brother {whom she is friends with, but she would never like him as anything more than a friend}. she tends to just kind of avoid her feelings altogether, and she tells herself that at the end of the day, any mortal she falls in love with is going to die anyway, so there’s no point in getting herself wrapped up with them.

Raine has a best friend called Wynn, who is also a vampire and he’s my Flirtatious Boy. he loves a good chat with the ladies, and Raine always finds a way to make fun of him for it. the thing i like about their relationship is their is literally zero sexual tension - in so many novels i real, god forbid there be a platonic relationship between a male and female. but Wynn literally never looks at Raine and sees her as a love interest - the two are purely just friends, and that’s a very strong point in the book.

as for Reuben, he’s a bit of a dickhead and he literally takes no shit whatsoever. whilst Raine can sometimes sugar coat things and sometimes softens her words to stop others from getting hurt, Reuben just doesn’t care about that. he’s been in wars that you only learn about in history class, and since then, his entire look on life has changed completely.

if you’re being stupid, he will call you out for being stupid. even when he talks to the king, he’s still so monotone and matter-of-fact, and he just doesn’t care. he knows he’ll outlive all of these people, so he’s sees no point in biting his tongue. they’ll be gone soon enough anyway, you know?

Reuben is also aromantic, which makes him ten times more salty that he’s being forced to marry the princess. 

fun fact about these two, though: they went through the Death Ceremony rather than being bitten to turn into vampires. basically, their parents were vampires whenever they were born, and whenever two vampires give birth to a child, the child is mortal upon being born, but the parents then get to decide whether or not they want to turn them, and at what age they want to do it. for Reuben and Raine, their parents chose to go through the Death Ceremony whenever they both turned seventeen years old, and so whenever they turned seventeen, their father stabbed them and then fed them vampire blood, which immediately kickstarted their system again and turned them into the immortals we know and love today :):):)
