From @amorhedera6 (also love the pete pfp btw) mwahaha the power of hot takes generates interaction to fuel the hyperfixation >:D
I actually agree with most of your points at least theoretically and I’ve realized most of my gripes with the writing are less “He didn’t have a character arc” and more “His arc is really not illustrated/executed very well.” I actually really like the take of him now having something to stop running for and I really like the thing abt him being glad Marlena went first as a show of him making peace with his sadness, I didn’t pick up on that.
I did a whole ramble in response to someone else here bc I enjoy nothing if not theater critique and I just have a lot of thoughts about this show because imo it is almost so perfect. Though I’ve realized a lot of it I think could have been solved by putting “I Choose The Ride” like slightly later in the show than only the fifth song.
Lowkey hyperfixating now and I’ve come to the devastating conclusion that Jacob the main character of Water For Elephants… doesn’t really have a character arc
#I am incredibly autistic about theater and this show especially#it’s so good I love it so much#which is why I wish it were Slightly Better#resisting the urge to ramble more in the tags but basically abt I choose the ride is that if they wanted us to believe he was running away#from his grief why does he seem to be so in touch and open about it This Early in the show like I get that this is how the rest of the gang#accepts him into the group by pouring their hearts out together but they could have done that a different way that doesn’t feel like poorly#pacing the main character’s arc#like I know what it’s Supposed To Be it’s just not executed well#especially next to Marlena and August who are both so incredibly written#water for elephants#w4e#theater theater theater theater theater <3333333333
