Pixel-Bear
by Scott J Bailey
You might recognize Pixel-Bear from local Seattle Pride celebrations. Pixel-Bear is an “analog- digital” character by artist, Scott J Bailey. Pixel-Bear was born in January of 2014 and came to the world with a simple message, to say the least:
“Pixel-Bear is Gay. And That’s Okay!”
“Pixel-Bear [and I] feel very strongly about these messages.
Presenting a childish, gay-positive image to the world is quite challenging. I want adults to love Pixel-Bear and his messages, because I want adults to teach kids these same soft, simple, unapologetic and self-loving messages. I don’t want any child growing up thinking they’re unworthy, unloveable or broken, because they’re not properly exposed to positive self- affirmations. Homosexuality is as natural and as beautiful as zebras and giraffes. Love is love. Hate has no place influencing love.
Pixel-Bear combines my professional background (generating propaganda for the advertising industry) with my attempts to find my place in the annuls of art history. Pixel-Bear is just one of the things that I do; it is decidedly pro-gay propaganda. I love that my fans support Pixel-Bear’s messages. And I see my challenge with Pixel-Bear will be honing and growing the pro-LGBT, pro-LOVE and pro-LIFE messages.
My other artwork ranges from social commentary pop art paintings to abstract representational mixed media sculptures and installations. Beginning with colorful abstract representationalism, my earliest work depicts the headiest of reasoning in the simplest of graphic forms: the genesis of all things; the course of things to come. I had a near death experience when I was 22 and I try to depict what I have learned from it. Basically “we are all one” in every imaginable facet. Except for our individual conscious minds, which are also connected when we allow it.
#andthatsokay Thanks for showing an interest in me and my work.”
