DEAR EVAN HANSEN 2018 TOUR THINGS THAT MADE ME CRY
Yep. Back at it again with this nonsense. I saw this show back in November and needed to frantically rant about how much of a MASTERPIECE it is and how in love I am with every single tour cast member. Buckle-up dorks and get ready to read a novel. Its gonna get pretty out of order so yeah, and obviously, SPOILERS for Dear Evan Hansen ahead. :)
So it opens and a bunch of live feed from multiple social media accounts appear on the monitors and screens surrounding Evan's bed and they make little beeping noises whenever there's something new and it was super cool and immersive.
I took like 2000 pictures of Evan's red bed and all of them turned out blurry but I will cherish every single one of them.
The classic Evan rant about sweaty hands and ordering food will forever be my eternal monologue. Ben also said that line so fast I was amazed that he didn't lose his breath and suffocate!
"Ohhh... Good." B A B Y
Heidi (Jessica Phillips) is my M O M. I love her and Cynthia's harmonies were superb.
Ok fam. Real talk. Ben Levi Ross. Best human 2019. Superior to every other person on this planet and I am unafraid of saying so.
I think a lot of people, including me, went into the touring show thinking "That Ben Levi Ross is cute, but I don't see how he could possibly compare to Ben Platt" STOP! STOP THAT NOW! THAT'S NOT OKAY! Because I can swear to you that his performance was one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed in my entire life and I cried so so very hard whenever he opened his mouth.
Not only should actors NEVER be compared to one another (as they are all their own people with their own incredible talent) but Ben's singing and performing was BEYOND WORDS! You could tell immediately how much of himself he put into Evan and did not doubt for a second that he should be up there instead of anyone else. His singing was so powerful and moving that I physically began shaking and did not stop until I left the theater, which Ben himself even acknowledged but more on that later. He was so incredibly talented it was unreal and I just wanted to take a second and say that he deserved every single moment of applause and cheering times a million. I need a recording of him singing Waving right now. BEN LEVI ROSS, GUYS!!!1!!!
oof, anyways his "Waving Through a Window" killed me. I'm dead. Gorgeous boy. Beautiful.
The way everyone's harmonies mix together and hit you in that song are phenomenal.
Jared, played by Jared Goldsmith, had such a squeaky highschooler voice and the biggest, doofy-est smile which made his stupid comments so much better. I loved him a lot. 10/10. Classic Jared.
Also, I would die for Marrick Smith.
Marrick, A.K.A. Connor was so good at being a broken teenager it hurt! I loved him a lot.
It also opened my eyes because... how do I say this without sounding weird... BOI HE THICK!
Marrick was so tall and swol and gorgeous and sweet and I love him and that's my TedTalk. It also created such a strong physical contrast between Connor, who was tall and strong and scary who processed his emotions through anger outbursts, with Evan, who was skinny and small and shrunk into himself and processed his emotions through hiding or running away, in a way that Ben Platt and Mike Faist couldn't really do. It was different in a good way and I really liked it! :)
Y'all can take Stronk Connor and Skinny Twink Evan out of my cold, dead hands.
In the cast signing scene, Connor was overly friendly and smiley which made the point where it all slowly fades into anger at "You wrote this because you knew that I would find it" so much worse.
The little tug on Ev's arm followed by a subtle "Ow" before signing. <3
"I LoVE JaZZ!"
I love the way Evan sits in chairs by taking up as little space as possible! Its such a cool detail to demonstrate Evan's social anxiety and his need and want to not take up too much space.
I just need to take a second to squeal about Phoebe Koyabe, who played Alana, because she had gorgeous pink hair and I was just all around in love with her voice and her quirky little Alana characteristics.
Here's where things are a bit out of order and blurred because I wrote down my favorite things and then instantly lost the paper so... this is all from what I rewrote later on.
During that line where Alana retaliates to Evan accusing her of using the Connor project for her college application, she became completely hysterical and began crying. That "because I know how it feels to be forgotten" will always be my weak point.
"Connor was OBSESSED with trees!"
"We were partners for our Literature class while reading Huck Finn. He was so funny! He came up with this funny joke where he'd say, well, instead of Huck Finn.... nobody else in our class thought of that!"
OH MY GOD ZOE!
Zoe, played by Maggie Mckenna, was so incredible and loveable it was insane.
Her voice was so deep and melodic that just listening to her speak made you want to curl up with a blanket and just be comfortable. She was also so expressive and good at delivering her lines that you felt and understood exactly what she was going through whenever she spoke. I loved her so much and can relate with Evan's sentiments in "If I could tell her!"
"That's just what you do when you're rich and don't have a job, you get crazy!"
That entire scene before "If I could tell her" was so good! She was so snarky and sarcastic with every line and I fell way more in love with Zoe. I love when she's not played as the angel love interest and more of a real character with flaws and feelings and emotions and Maggie's portrayal really solidified that for me! I love this little Jazz band brat!
I also need a recording of Maggie's requiem, it was beautiful!
There was this heartbreaking moment in that song where Zoe looked at and read through Connor's emails and held them close, but at "That you were not the monster," she crumbled it up into a ball and let it fall to the ground, covering up all her sadness with anger and it hurt me.
That song just hurt a lot all around. Cynthia, Larry, Zoe. Just all of it, all of their God-tier harmonies. All.
You'd also be glad to know that Zoe's star-covered jeans were in full view the whole time along with the ones on her sneakers.
There was this adorable moment in the scene before "Only Us" where Evan freaks out because he thinks Zoe's gonna break up with him and he screams and promises he won't start breaking things and Zoe just has to stop him like "no, you tree-loving twink, I'm not breaking up with you!" And Evan just stands there for a second and then does this sweet thing where he awkwardly bends down and grabs her hands and shakes them with a little "thank you." Then Zo copies his little hand thing as responds "Don't mention it!" They're so cute together and lovable it hurts! Hopefully nothing bad happens between them...
During Disappear, Connor started jumping on Evan's bed during "And even if you've always been-" and it was glorious and Evan just regarded it as a normal occurrence.
They also did this thing where they ran on opposite sides of the stage and then rejoined in the middle where Connor helps Evan put on his backpack and then just puts his hands on his shoulders in a moment of bro trust and admiration and then yeets out of existence at "when you're falling in a forest."
BEN'S YOU WILL BE FOUND WILL LIVE ON IN INFAMY!
During the panic attack before the song began, starting when Evan dropped his notecards, you can feel it radiating off of him so vividly that everyone in the theater was holding their breath.
First when he fell to pick the cards up you could see the tears swell up and hear his breath quicken and feel the panic swell like "no no no, this can't happen. Not now. Don't do this!" And the second you think he might be able to pull it together and stand up, he slips and hits his elbow so hard on the floor, we all jump. He lets out the most heartbreaking yelp and clutches his arm, abandoning his cards and the speech and all hope of recovering. The tears finally start to fall down his face and they don't stop.
Still holding his arm, Evan pushes his body out of the spotlight and holds himself in the fetal position, refusing to look up and just all around shutting hinself away from everyone watching. AND YOU CAN FEEL IT! You can feel Evan's shame and horror and fear and anger and it's awful. You almost have to look away because the emotions being displayed are so real and raw. More real than any recording or bootleg out there. And that's why Ben Levi Ross was so incredibly perfect in my eyes, because he could so accurately depict and portray Evan and what he's going through to the point where you have to look away to avoid the risk of being pulled under with him and losing yourself to your own habits and its heartbreakingly brilliant! Again, Ben. Fucking. Levi. Ross.
During "You Will be Found" they also display all these younger and baby pictures of Marrick along with present day ones to show little Connor, which was adorable. But then Larry, played by Aaron Lazar, looks up and sees little baby Connor on the screen and instantly breaks down sobbing, the first time ever since Connor died as we hear Zoe say earlier that "he didn't even cry at Connor's funeral." Cynthia has to come over and hold him to prevent him from instantly falling apart.
Evan and Jared also have this awkward high five at that part and its very uncomfortable and great.
There's another just horrible moment in the middle of words fail where one by one the Murphys all run off stage horrified at the news that Evan was lying. First, it's Zoe with Cynthia following after, frantically trying to grasp what happened with tears falling everywhere. Then Larry, who looks disapprovingly at Evan before solemnly following the others. Then, lastly, in what could just be described as the worst thing ever, one of the screens become transparent to reveal CONNOR, looking in dismay at what has happened, tears in his eyes, before also walking away from Evan back into the nothingness. Awful. Beautifully, beautifully awful.
Evan snuggles into Heidi and stays there for what seems like forever during "So Big, So Small" then, he finally lets go and Heidi rides away on the couch, reaching for him.
Okay, fam. That was all the specific things I wanted to scream about during the actual show, but then I had the pleasure of meeting them at the stage door which led to some great hijinks!
I said something really stupid to Jessica Phillips/Heidi when she signed my playbill probably along the lines of like "You were so amazing I might faint. Please catch me" and she SQUEALED! It was the best sound on the planet.
When Marrick Smith/ Connor came out, I was frozen in shock because, not only was he shorter than I thought and his cool hair was tied in a man bun and he was wearing a cool beanie and some hair feel into his eyes like a Myspace profile picture, I was so amazed that he was real and was standing so close to me. I was so amazed that I stood there like an idiot just staring at him and shaking while he smiled at me, an awkward little baby, until my Mom had to physically nudge me towards him to which he responded by giggling and saying "Aw! Don't be scared! I don't bite!" I... I. How? How do I live after that. He signed by his picture and, get this, also doodled a little mustache on Aaron Lazar/ Larry's picture. I am also proud to say that I saw his slightly chipped black nail polish up close in true Connor fashion. Then he thanked me for coming and waved at me. He was SO incredibly sweet and I couldn't stop smiling after that.
When Phoebe Koyabe/Alana came out with her gorgeous pink hair I squealed and told her she was gorgeous to which she kindly smiled and complemented my dress and signed my Playbill. She was a goddess and I love her so much.
Right before Aaron Lazar came out, My Mom without thinking just called out "Daddy" to which my sister and I were horrified.
Lastly, Ben Levi Ross, wearing the best sweater ever, came out and signed my Playbill. At this point my legs were absolute jelly and I was shaking so bad I almost dropped everything, but he was so SO NICE and, as a response to seeing me dying upon seeing him, said "Oh no! Don't shake! You're okay! Everything's fine!" He was so unbelievably chill and sweet and upon my family showering him with all of the complements he deserved was so down to earth and appreciative. It was so incredible to get to meet him and tell him how amazing he was!
In conclusion, I knew Dear Evan Hansen was incredible and loved it before, but actually seeing it made me feel so many feelings that I didn't know existed. Its such a genius musical and I 1000% recommend! There was not a weak link in the cast! They were all so sweet and talented and just absolutely PHENOMENAL! I would die for all of them! :)

Requiem- Jack x reader
Reader gender: not mentioned Warnings: none (not even swearing are you proud of me) A/n: I've got my groove back so updates should hopefully be more frequent. You might want to give Requiem a listen while the song plays in the story Requested by anon: Can I get a jack/reader story where the reader is like, playing an instrument (piano maybe?) And Jack is mesmerized? Word count: 1062 You angrily shoved your finger through your hair, frustrated after finding absolutely nothing in the past hour you had been researching. Dean was out after receiving a call from Missouri and Sam was in a nearby room, training with Jack. You had been given the exciting task of finding out more about Jack. However, everything you found was either irrelevant or something you already knew. You slammed your laptop closed and left the room, hoping to find somewhere to relax. You paced around the bunker, grabbing a beer from the kitchen before traveling deeper into the house. You finally reached the back of the bunker and came to a stop in front of a door that you had long forgotten about. You pushed it open, the hinges creaking as you did. You looked in at the sheet covering the grand piano you used to know so well. It had probably been a year since you last used it, things had just been so stressful recently. You had put it in the back so that you wouldn't bother the boys with your playing. Knowing Sam and Jack wouldn't hear you, you pulled the sheet off, blew off some dust and sat down at the keys.
You looked through the sheet music you had collected over the years before deciding to play Requiem from Dear Evan Hansen. You sang along as you played, having memorized the words when the soundtrack was first released. "Why should I play this game of pretend? Remembering through a second hand sorrow? Such a great son and wonderful friend. Oh, don't the tears just pour." You sang, your fingers flying along the keys. "I could curl up and hide in my room. There in my bed, still sobbing tomorrow. I could give into all of the gloom. But tell me, tell me what for." You you effortlessly continued playing, the stress of research forgotten. Jack collapsed in the corner of the library, frustrated after failing to control his powers so many times. He pulled at his hair, wondering why, why couldn't he do it? He stood, hoping to find a room where Sam wouldn't bother him. He briskly paced down the turning halls. His walk stopped abruptly when a foreign sound reached his ears. "Why should I have a heavy heart? Why should I start to break in pieces? Why should I go and fall apart for you?" He recognized your voice paired with the chiming of keys. "Why should I play the grieving girl and Lie, saying that I miss you And that my world has gone dark Without your light? I will sing no requiem tonight." Jack carefully pushed open the door and quietly stood in the doorway, watching you play. "I gave you the world, you threw it away. Leaving these broken pieces behind you. Everything wasted, nothing to say. So I can sing no requiem. I hear your voice and feel you near. Within these words, I finally find you. So, now that I know that you are still here. I will sing no requiem tonight. Why should I have a heavy heart? Why should I say I'll keep you with me? Why should I go and fall apart for you? Why should I play the grieving girl And lie saying that I miss you And that my world has gone dark Without your light? I will sing no requiem tonight. Cause when the villains fall, The kingdoms never weep. No one lights a candle to remember. No, no mourns at all When they lay them down to sleep. So, don't tell me that I didn't have it right. Don't tell me that it wasn't black and white. After all you put me through, Don't say it wasn't true, That you were not the monster-" Your fingers halted after hitting the powerful note. "That I knew. Cause I cannot play the grieving girl and Lie, saying that I miss you And that my world has gone dark. I will sing no requiem. I will sing no requiem. I will sing no requiem tonight. Oh... oh... Oh... Oh..." You sighed, bringing your hands down to your lap. "Can you do that again?" Jack asked from behind you. You spun around, not expecting anyone to be there. "Oh, sorry Jack, I didn't think anyone could hear me. I didn't mean to bother you." You apologized quickly. "No, I was just walking by and heard you. You're very good." He complimented. "No, I haven't done it in so long, I'm really pretty bad." You insisted. "I don't think so. I enjoyed it." You decided to ignore the fact that he's probably never actually heard a piano before. Your phone buzzed and you pulled it out of your pocket to see a text from Sam. Moose bro: Have you seen Jack? "Sam wants to know where you are. Do you want me to tell him?" You asked Jack. "I'd like to have a few moments away from him, if that's alright." Jack responded honestly. "No problem." You assured him. N/n: Haven't seen him sorry Moose bro: Help me look? N/n: Busy Moose bro: I think you meant lazy N/n: Yeah You tucked your phone back into your pocket. "So, any particular reason you're avoiding Sam?" You questioned. "He wants me to practice controlling my powers, but I... I can't." He sighed. "Hey, don't let it get you down. Sam can be a bit of a perfectionist, but you just have to go at your own pace. And you can't just try for hours on end. Take a break, play some piano with me." You offered. "Can you teach me?" You nodded and slide over on the bench, making room for him. You lead him through the basic notes and how to read sheet music. He picked it up surprisingly fast and was soon able to play a simple tune. "Y/n, are you sure you haven't seen him? I've been looking everywhere." Sam sighed, entering the room. "Hey Sam." You greeted nonchalantly. "Are you serious?" He growled. "Jack, come on, we have to practice some more." Jack sighed as he stood up and sadly walked over to Sam. "Can we do that again tomorrow?" He asked as he was pulled out of the room. You laughed and smiled, having enjoyed your time with him. "Anytime, Jack."

Double Dee Weekend Analysis Challenge
This weekend, for Double Dee Appreciation Month, a bunch of EEnE blogs have been asked by @eene-fangirl to analyze the climactic swamp scene from Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Big Picture Show. In this scene, Eddy tricks Edd into believing Edd has allowed Ed and Eddy to drown in quicksand. This leaves Edd alone with the audience for about a minute, attempting to rescue them and then sobbing over survivor’s guilt. If you’re ready to deal with that, keep reading!
If you’re interested in how my opinion of this scene has evolved, here’s another analysis of it from a few years ago. Hopefully I don’t repeat myself too much, I only gave myself a moment to gloss over it before I started this: http://book-o-scams.tumblr.com/post/128634520423/do-you-think-you-could-do-a-review-about-the
What if the last time you saw your best friends safe and happy before their tragic deaths, one of them was pretending to be an alligator-skin bag and the other was running away from him in half naked mock-terror? This is Edd’s lot in life.
To be serious, I want to take a moment to say this swamp is beautifully designed. The water is so much more detailed and colorful than the flat colors on the animated water we usually see, and the silhouette trees exist in a really surreal season 1-inspired style that I can’t put into words. What are those stripes on the trees meant to be? Just weird lighting? Fumes?
“WAIT!” Love this little hand gesture.
I always wonder if Eddy was already planning the prank when he led Ed away. It IMMEDIATELY upsets Edd that Eddy is out of view. Eddy’s prank seems like it could be a response to the argument Edd and Eddy were having prior to this scene about why Edd ISN’T on this road trip (”to impress your brother”).
Graceful Swamp Nymph Edd over here....
Whoa
How did he land that jump!?
This whole shot is great.
As much as I would love to watch close-ups of Edd slipping all over these platforms, the crane shot communicates the loneliness of the moment, the distance between Edd and his friends, the dread that makes Ed n Eddy’s deaths seem like a possibility, and all while giving us a moment to appreciate the background art.
The decaying stagnant location could probably be taken as a metaphor for the state of the Eds’ friendship...
The small drawings are a little sloppy, but kinda charming. They remind me of the EEnE comics that weren’t drawn by AKA artists.
This moment of isolation also feels like a parallel to shots from the previous prank in the movie....
I love the subtle extra detail in Eddy’s hand, and the grime is good and creepy.
Maybe it’s just because lately I’ve been listening to the music I listened to backwhen BPS came out in 2009, but I feel like there’s a metaphor for Edd’s friendship with Eddy and Ed behind this whole “quicksand” visual hook. I’ll let you psychoanalyze that yourselves, but here’s a song about quicksand to help you think:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo50Wv2A4uk
Gotta love that escalation from whispering to panicking! In my previous analysis of this scene, I believe I considered the possibility that Eddy fell in this muck by accident and just ran with Edd’s suggestion that it was quicksand. On the other hand, it’s pretty suspicious that Eddy ran off shirtless and then got dressed before jumping in here... I think Eddy really does just know how to fake his own ignorance and predict Edd’s phobias.
I mean look at Ed in the very next shot! He’s not even trying to make this convincing. Very good dramatic touch on Eddy’s part to reach out for Edd, though.
I know I’m supposed to be analyzing Edd but I’m always taken by Eddy’s acting during these pranks. In the Gag Factory, he just goes for horror movie shock value, but here it becomes clear that Eddy has thought through the dramatic potential of his own death. Look at this pageantry!
Ed’s comments, “In Manure” vs “Immature” and “to all the girls I’ve loved before,” also suggest the scriptedness of this prank.
But at least Ed’s choking here sounds genuine enough to make his other banter more believably sad that he’s going out with jokes.
More staging focused on isolating Edd from his friends.
Ed and Eddy dragging each other to their deaths, their voices fading out in the background, while Edd frantically races in the foreground to do what’s best for them. Eddy really could not have set up a prank that conveyed the cracks in their friendship more VISUALLY, could he?
Suffocating close-ups. This anxiety is drowning Edd more than Ed and Eddy are drowning themselves!
Like tightening a noose, right, Edd?
BTW, don’t forget the significance of nooses to Bro, and by extension, Eddy!
So, seriously, what’s causing the bubbles here? Are Ed and Eddy waiting out this prank with no oxygen or are they back in the bushes or something?
I’d like to mention how much I appreciate the subtle gritty spraypainty detail on the coloring of the quicksand, it definitely helps create the illusion that this may be more threatening than the show’s usual grimy environments.
Today on Ed, Edd n Eddy, Double Dee processes the existential horror of accidental death!
“No.” Edd clutches his heart and attempts to restrain himself.
OOOH, good expression matching between shots!!!
“No!”
This is such a goddamn sweaty movie.
“NO!!!!”
The very first frame of the next shot is Edd already digging and slathered in mud. The urgency with which he throws away his germ phobia to save his friends makes his leap into the quicksand so fast it cannot be caught on film.
I love that the movie does not overstate Edd’s germ phobia and instead lets the grotesque thickness of this mud’s animation speak for itself. Nobody would want to start wading in anything this gloppy, but Edd does it with so much energy, he is not kidding about how much he does not want Ed or Eddy to die no matter how they’ve mistreated each other in the past year.
OOH THEY FORGOT TO LINE SOME TEETH!!!
ah there they are
The first frame of Edd crying in this scene and the tears are already down his cheeks! He’s sprung a leak now.
Edd demands to know where Ed and Eddy are.
AND WE’VE STRUCK GOLD WITH THIS FRAME-BY-FRAME ANALYSIS
to be clear I am skipping some frames. sorry there isn’t more commentary but i think this glorious ugly-crying speaks for itself.
Edd begs them not to give up on him, the survivor’s guilt coming out full force.
“ANSWER ME!”
Edd whimpering after “...please...” is the part of this scene that breaks my heart the most. That quiet acceptance that death is real, even in the Eds’ static world, definitely hits on the pain of losing someone close to you for the first time, a note that’s really important to land when this is so obviously (to the audience) a prank.
The tear animation on this particular expression is REALLY smooth. Some of the dripping loops are kinda choppy but this one looks great, I love the touch with the darker eyelid skin being colored differently through the tears. It’s a perfect capper to a shot full of really incredible Edd drawings.
Again I’d like to point out that Edd’s perspective keeps switching between claustrophobic close-ups and devastating isolation.
I love how he SCREAMS and stomps around in a circle!
A little foreshadowing of the physical violence he’s going to bestow upon Eddy when they fight after the prank is revealed...
“WHY OH WHY DIDN’T YOU LISTEN TO ME!?”
I love that I can’t tell if Edd is referring to these swamp antics or the entire show. It feels a little underhanded for Edd to say this stuff out loud at what he believes to be the scene of their deaths, but that sort of darkness is necessary to justify this scene after the prank is revealed. Ed and Eddy don’t exactly deserve a better requiem, at this point they’ve brought almost nothing but despair to all the people they wanted love from, even if that’s not what they intended.
In an ask earlier tonight, I interpreted a line Edd says after this scene that informs why he reacts to their “deaths” this way. I just want to underline that: Ed and Eddy are officially more important to Edd than any member of his family, any acquaintance, anyone he’s ever met. And this is the way they treat him after ruining what little bit of a life he had accumulated through all his mistakes. His reaction to their death and his reaction to them being alive but lying to him have a similar fury behind the expressions, fueled by how much Edd has lost over both the last year and the last 24 hours.
Edd finally faceplants in the mud, to punish himself for failing to steer Ed and Eddy away from their doomed quest, for failing to save their lives, and for insulting them at their graves.
This is the beginning of the last shot of the “Ed and Eddy are dead” sequence, but I want to savor it.
This is the moment where their “death” has finally lingered long enough to feel like the new reality, to Edd as well as the audience. A moment sooner would have rendered it meaningless, and possibly made Ed and Eddy seem nicer or at least more concerned with Edd’s heartbreak, while leaving our thoughts on Edd’s slight about Ed and Eddy ignoring him. Keep the death going too long and it would DEFINITELY feel like a waste. This feels like Ed, Edd n Eddy tugging at heartstrings with the exact balance of sweet and mean that defines the show.
“This is all my fault!”
“I should have never let you leave the cul-de-sac!”
I like that Edd’s thoughts would return to “the cul-de-sac” at their death. Even with the traumas we witnessed in Peach Creek, “the cul-de-sac” still sounds like a safe nostalgic place, the natural habitat of the Eds.
Is that a miscolored sleeve?
This shot was important it because it allowed Edd to show remorse and get more to the heart of what he meant with that slight.
And I think Ed and Eddy quietly offering Edd a tissue is a really good beat to end the death sequence on as well. Mean as they are and as rightfully angry as Edd is, we are still given the sense that they heard what Edd said, and want to return with a semi-caring gesture with a little of Ed’s personality mixed in to help restore normalcy. It’s almost like they are saying “let us laugh right now and we won’t blame you at all for thinking so little of us at our deathbeds.” It is specific and in character. But it doesn’t make up for their actions as much as they think it does.
Edd initially complaining about Ed’s gross handkerchief and then drooping as the dots connect that this was a prank is also a pretty well-timed gag.
These shit-eating grins, Eddy looks like Norbert Beaver right now with that little beak.
Hmm, Ed’s face doesn’t match between these shots... I wonder if a line got cut out for time here.
Ridiculing Edd for caring, which probably reflects how little care Ed and Eddy receive from their families and peers.
Just like old times, huh Double Dee?
...Maybe too similar to old times...
Thousand yard stare while tears stream down his cheeks...
“This muck’s only ankle deep, can’t sink in it!”
Edd untethers himself. Symbolism.
Ed starts making some stupid free-associative response to Eddy’s line.
And Edd spins around and stomps away with stifled anger.
In light of how deeply he just felt about these two, he cannot bring himself to give them the fight they deserve without Eddy dragging it out of him. But Edd can sure as hell walk away.
And with that Edd silently quits and Eddy makes a series of strange faces.
Also in this shot, tiny Eddy’s animation does not sync up with the dialogue at ALL, so I really want to know what line he was animated to...
Anyway, that’s it for this challenge. I hope you enjoyed this mini-analysis grande-screenshot-gallery and have been enjoying these character appreciation months as much as I have! Have a good night.
