6x04. “Dreamland” (part 1 of 2) - X-Files Rewatch

“Don't you ever just want to stop? Get out of the damn car? Settle down and live something approaching a normal life?” - Scully “This is a normal life.” - Mulder

Too bad most of the stuff we see is forgotten. I do have an interesting take on the fallout of this episode, though! (I’ll get into that at the end of Dreamland II, tomorrow.)

Driving late at night. Mulder’s gazing. He looooooooves her. 

Scully’s “I’m all a-tingle.” and their shared look. 😍

Mulder’s just so happy to be with her, to be doing something X-Files-y with her, or anything really. Also he knows what it’s like to kiss her, sorta, so I’d imagine he can’t stop thinking about that.

Scully is gazing and enjoying herself, too, even though she’s still hurt. That he did something so reckless, that she thinks he might not completely trust her anymore. At least he invited her along on his adventure this time.

Mulder looks so hot in his t-shirt. Mmm, forearm porn.

Scully reminiscing about the hundreds/thousands of miles they’ve traveled together in cars. Then she’s thinking about families and what she doesn’t have. Her “get out of the car”. She is DEFINITELY asking him if he wants to settle down WITH HER. She wants something more with him, something beyond their work. Something “normal” like a house/kids/dog. Could Mulder ever want something like that? (I’m envisioning that Scully’s IVF is happening around this time, which implies even more strongly that she wants him to know she means THEM when she talks about settling down. I don’t think Mulder gets it though.) When Scully talks about UFOs in front of Fletcher and the other military personnel I think he probably gets an erection.

Scully grabbing Mulder’s hand/arm to leave after they are confronted by Fletcher et al. Then somehow Mulder’s grabbing onto her. 

From now on Mulder(F) is Mulder-as-Fletcher and Fletcher(M) is Fletcher-as-Mulder. Just to make things slightly clearer. (BTW interesting how their initials are the same but reversed.)

Mulder is thrilled at seeing the inside of Area 51. Doesn’t really think of anything else. FINALLY he thinks about Scully and tries to call her. (Another thing that shows, to me, that he is more than willing to risk himself to experience paranormal things - like going into the light in Requiem. He doesn’t really THINK sometimes, he just DOES. He’s instinctual, spontaneous. Would being abducted by aliens be a terrible idea? Yes. How many things has Mulder done that are incredibly stupid? Too many to count.)

Mulder ALWAYS fills the gas tank. Of course he does. He’s such a gentleman. 

Fletcher(M) being a selfish jerk, smoking, calling her “Dana”.

Scully was just talking about having a family. Mulder wants to have a deeper relationship with her, which would entail such a family. Now he gets to experience it himself, and he thinks he fucks it up. So, more guilt and self-doubt. 

Mulder(F) FALLS ASLEEP WATCHING PORN AND DREAMS ABOUT SCULLY.

Fletcher(M) keeps calling Scully “Dana” and it’s hilarious. 

Fletcher’s(M) behaviour with Kersh is completely out-of-character. Scully’s WTF face. Fletcher(M) flirting with Kersh’s secretary. OOF. Asking if Scully’s jealous and smacking her ass. Scully’s face is priceless.

Mulder(F) continuing to fuck things up with Fletcher’s family. Then taking a moment to enjoy the weirdness. His tank top & boxers. 😍

Fletcher(M) playing computer golf. Their whole interaction and Scully’s face, again, is just… 😆

I think Scully knows something’s up but she can’t make herself admit it. She believes deep down but forces herself to push those thoughts away. He is acting SO strange. She has experience with Mulder-but-not-Mulder. Perhaps she’s thinking something happened that changed his personality and is running with that instead of an incredible bodyswap like Mulder(F) suggested when he called her.

Scully’s jealousy when she goes to Mulder’s apartment and Fletcher(M) was obviously getting it on with Kersh’s secretary. She’s really really mad and confused. 😥

The merged coins are cool, and make an appearance later in the series (“Alone”, 8x19).

Mulder(F) DEFINITELY dreamed about Scully the second night, and also said her name aloud. His giant grimace when Fletcher’s wife assumes he has ED.

Beautiful, sexy Scully showing up at Fletcher’s house. She is so hot this whole episode. Well, she’s always hot, but you know what I mean.

That she’s so uncomfortable with Mulder(F) touching her. She doesn’t just let anyone get that close, but it was something she didn’t have issues with right from the beginning with Mulder. They CLICKED right from the start.

The things that Mulder says to Scully to get her to believe him. How about a certain hallway declaration. How about the spaceship in Antarctica. How about her tattoo. Mulder sucks at coming up with unique shit he knows about her. I can relate though, I wouldn’t be able to come up with a goddamned thing either.

“That is so you. That is so Scully. Well, it's good to know you haven't changed. That's somewhat comforting.” - Mulder

That Fletcher(M) turned Scully in. This is a HUGE red flag. But she just STILL CANNOT accept the strange theory about a bodyswap. She believes it deep down but won’t let herself accept it.

Once Mulder(F) is taken she realizes her mistake. 😥
