Bona diada dels Països Catalans!

Sant Joan és una de les poques festes (de fet, l'única que no és una celebració religiosa) que se celebra de forma conjunta arreu dels Països Catalans: des de la Flama del Canigó a la Catalunya Nord, a les fogueres d'Alacant, les festes amb cavalls de Ciutadella i la crema de bujots a Sant Lluís a Menorca, el ball de Sant Joan Pelós a diverses localitats de Mallorca, les baixades de falles al Pirineu i Andorra i totes les revetlles populars celebrades arreu de Catalunya, el País Valencià i la Franja.

És una festa lligada al foc i a l'aigua, que simbolitza el final de la sega dels camps ("Pel juny, la falç al puny") i la celebració del solstici d'estiu. Des de la dècada del 1980, se celebra també com a Festa Nacional dels Països Catalans, amb el foc i la llengua com a elements centrals que ens agermanen, i com a símbol de resistència del poble català, que no s'ha deixat vèncer pels segles de repressió i persecució dels estats espanyol i francès.

Happy Day of the Catalan Countries!

Sant Joan (Midsummer, June 24th) is one of the few holidays (in fact, the only one that isn't a religious feast) that is celebrated together all around the Catalan Countries: from the Canigó Flame in Northern Catalonia, to the Alacant bonfires, the horse festivities of Ciutadella and the burning of Bujots in Sant Lluís in Menorca, the Sant Joan Pelós dance in various towns of Mallorca, the falles in the Pyrenees and Andorra, and all the eve parties and festivals celebrated all around Catalonia, the Valencian Country and la Franja.

It's a holiday linked to fire and water, and which symbolizes the ending of the fields' reaping season that used to happen during all of June (we have the saying "In June, the sickle in your fist") and the celebration of the summer solstice. Since the 1980s, it's also celebrated as the National Holiday of the Catalan Countries, with fire and language as the central elements that unites us, and as a symbol of resistance of the Catalan people, who has not given in to the centuries of oppression and persecution from the Spanish and French states.

Château d'If

El castell d’If, situat en una petita illa a la badia de Marsella, té els seus orígens al segle XVI. La primera menció històrica data del 1516, quan el rei Francesc I de França va ordenar la seva construcció per protegir Marsella de possibles invasions marítimes.

L’illa, de dimensions modestes però estratègicament situada, es va transformar en una fortalesa militar amb canons orientats cap al mar. Aquesta primera funció defensiva, però, es va demostrar en gran part innecessària, ja que mai no va ser atacada.

Durant el període medieval, Marsella i la Provença estaven sota la influència del comtat de Provença, una regió estratègica per al comerç marítim. Tot i que el Château d’If no existia en aquell període, la seva construcció posterior es va vincular a la tradició d’erigir fortaleses per protegir les rutes comercials i el port de Marsella, que ja era un centre clau al Mediterrani.

Amb el temps, la funció principal del Château d’If va canviar. Des del segle XVII, es va convertir en una presó estatal, guanyant notorietat per les condicions inhòspites i la seva reputació de ser una destinació de “no retorn”. Hi van ser empresonats opositors polítics, hugonots protestants durant les guerres de religió i individus acusats de traïció. Això el va consolidar com un símbol de repressió durant la monarquia francesa.

El Château d’If va assolir fama mundial gr��cies a la literatura, especialment amb la novel·la El comte de Montecristo (1844) d’Alexandre Dumas. La història del protagonista, Edmond Dantès, que escapa de la presó després de ser empresonat injustament, va immortalitzar la fortalesa com a lloc emblemàtic de conspiracions i redempció.

Amb la Revolució Francesa i la transició a la República, el Château va perdre progressivament la seva importància com a presó, i al segle XIX es va convertir en un lloc d’interès històric. Va ser declarat monument nacional el 1926 i avui és una atracció turística.

Now he has sent the police to bust a peaceful demonstration for the worker's day and they had sent a 70 year old man into the hospital.

Announcement in response to the police repression suffered during May 1st in Castelló de la Plana

Today CGT Castelló (union), with help of La Cosa Nostra(local antifa group), Subversives (local feminist amd lgbt colective) COS (union), Intersindical Valenciana (union), CNT (union) and Endavant (left-wing org), organized the traditional activist demonstration for the First of May with the motto "For the working class and the peace between people". In what was going to be, at first, a day for the rights of the working people, has become, due to several police provocations and agressions, into a new sample of the repression.

We describe this policial intervention as deliberate and on top, a total taunting against the people that formed the march. It has put in danger the physical integrity of the assistants during the succesive charges made from start to end of the itinerary, using UPR units from the National Police and several forces from the Local Police of the City of Castelló with the goal of breaking the demonstration, pushing and assaulting those present, without bearing in mind that there were old people and families with minors, some of them had been forced to leave the demonstration after seeing the constant charges.

Is completely intolerable that we get supressed like that just because we try to use our rights to manifest, especially in a date like is the 1st of May that, as we have said before, we don't think it has been a coincidence. The excuses used by the police force had been that several protesters were wielding "wooden sticks" on the flags and that they could "disturb the peace", element that has always used on this calls to wave the flags without it never beeing a risk for anyone. We want to remind that this is protected under law 04/2015 also known as "gag law", law that we already protested about against it's approval and that we still keep demanding to be abolished.

After watching the situation, the Executive Secretary of our union, after identifying himself as the person that made the call for the demonstration, has tried to dialogate with the police agents, asking to speak with the commander in charge and demanding the id of the agents. That was denied to us in several occasions, reaching the point where one of the policemen that formed part of the deployment said that we were "assaulting and threatening him". We recall that identifying themselves is a duty of the agents, and we have in mind that their license numbers were written with small typography on their bulletproof vests, not being properly visible.

On the final part of the demonstration's tour, in what it has been the last charge, police agents knocked down an older person that was on the protest, causing several contusions. When asked to inform medical services so they could help him, agents moved away, ignoring the request.

Once the demonstration was over, the Executive Secretary of CGT Castelló asked the UPR agents of CNP (national police) the seized material, that request was denied and he received a fine for "7 sticks" that according to the peace officers, could disrupt greatly the peace

Because what we described here, from CGT Castelló we anounce that we are going to take legal actions on the Administration Subdelegation for the attacks and assaults made from the different police forces that acted today. We are not going to consent that our right to protest gets diminished. On top of that, we ask for the resignation of the people in charge of the police actions: Antonia García, administration subdelegate, Emilio Romero, superintendent of the National Police, Antonio Ortolá, political responsible of the Local Police and Paco Catalán, superintendent of the Local Police

To conclude, we want to thank to all the people that added their strength today against this abuse. Despite the repression they are not going to stop us.

I'll go back to a song from 2013 but it's worth it. This is a rap song by the Catalan band At Versaris ft. the American MC Invincible and DJ Waajeed. The song is mostly in Catalan with a last part in English.

The song is titled "No fear" because the rapper talks about fighting back against fear, which is the feeling the used to keep people in place in the capitalist system.

I translated the part in Catalan, but in the original language it's better because the lyrics are very well written to create sound repetitions. Anyway, here's the original lyrics (in red) and translation of the part that was in Catalan (in black), and the part of the song in English I leave it as it is (in purple).

📢 Comunicat contra l'opertura del mòdul de dones del CIE BCN

Denunciem l'opertura del mòdul de dones al CIE Barcelona, on 12 companyes estan sent sotmeses a violentes condicions de detenció.

Els CIEs són una de les màximes expressions del sistema capitalista colonial que jerarquitza la vida de les persones, humanitza a unes i deshumanitza a altres amparats en marcs legals profundament cisheteropatriarcals, racistes i classistes.

Les agrupacions i persones firmants considerem que aquestes polítiques s'emmarquen en un entramat legal que sostè i reprodueix el racisme estructural, el qual legitima la vulneració de drets fonamentals de les persones pel seu lloc d'orígen.

Estem presenciant una intensificació de discursos i actituds d'odi que s'estan normalitzant, mentres les persones migrades i refugiades són sotmeses a condicions extremes d'explotació, persecucions, identificacions racistes, tortures, empresonaments i deportacions, mancant dels drets fonamentals; així mateix s'intensifica la criminalització de menors no acompanyats i les lleves de custòdia a mares migrants com a forma de control, repressió i càstig.

Les mesures adoptades pel govern, algunes merament pal·liatives i altres criminalitzadores, no posaran fi a la crisi social, política i econòmica que travessem, ans el contrari, contribuiran a profunditzar-la.

Els CIEs formen part de l'entramat carcerari racista necropolític, del passat i present colonial capitalista patriarcal i han d'abolir-se.

Exigim no només el seu tancament definitiu, sinó la derogació de la Llei d'Extrangeria, ja que és un dels mecanismes legals que permet i legítima aquestes violències estructurals racistes. Lluitem per un canvi radical en la política migratòria que prioritzi els drets i llibertats de les persones migrades i refugiades.
