Quick update

As I’m sure you can tell from the lack of updates to my fics, I’ve been experiencing a severe writer’s block for the past few two or three months.

I don’t mean the type of writer’s block where I can’t think of nothing original, but the type of writer’s block where my mind flat out refuses to form a cohesive sentence any time I sit down to try and write.

And I’m sure it’s something that has happened for many of you. You hit a wall. You’re have no idea what to write about. You try to look at the same topic from another angle, but there’s something wrong that you can’t quite figure out and you don’t have the inspiration you had before to do so. So you stop writing for a day, two days, then a week, then a fortnight and suddenly there’s been months where you didn’t post anything new. So questions start to pop up, the most dreadful of all: is anyone reading what I’m writing anyhow?

I haven’t experienced something like this before and it’s honestly just really messing with my self esteem and my anxiety. And to be quite honest, it’s not just my fanfics. Lately I feel like it’s my entire life, as if I’m under-performing everywhere. To be completely honest with you, I’m struggling even to write this post, too. (You’ll probably find some typos. But writing this serves as an exercise for me right now in terms of just letting words flow). Overall, an activity I used to love and would come very easily to me feels extraneous and stressful at the moment, and I’m taking that as a sign that I just need to give myself some more time.

I struggled with burnout in the past, so I’ve pushed myself past my limit plenty of times and it’s left me mentally exhausted before and I don’t want a replay of that. I’m currently up for a promotion at work and trying to save as much money as I can for an upcoming trip with a couple of friends on November, so real life has been pretty demanding and stressful. I’m also currently facing a couple of health related issues (thankfully, none of them are quite serious) so I’ve been spending time going to my doctors office, seeing a nutritionist and working on my physical well being. I’ve been also working hard with my therapist on allowing myself to truly rest during my free time (I haven’t taken a vacation from work since the pandemic began) and being more present, so being alone in my room writing is not that beneficial to my healing at the moment. I get how writing can be therapeutic for many (and it has helped me tremendously over the years, don’t get me wrong) but currently I don’t feel like it’s beneficial for my mental health to spend long periods of time by myself or inside my own room. I hope you understand that.

So I’ve made the decision to extend my break from trying to write for an additional few weeks or even for a couple of months. I’m not exactly sure how long this will last, but I think it’s what’s best for me. I might publish something during this time but don’t expect any sort of consistency in terms of schedule or frequency. I’m hoping taking the pressure off my mind will help get the creative juices flowing and just be more mindful of my current limitations. I’ll be spending this time reblogging content that makes me happy, likely brainstorming what I want to do with this space, seeing my friends and family, trying to get back at reading books (a habit also lost due to mental exhaustion), prioritising my mental and physical health and, of course, rewatching Criminal Minds (which I still adore).

I’m sorry for being so absent lately and I hope you’re doing well. I feel grateful for all the loving interactions I’ve had on the Criminal Minds fandom and plan on continuing to interact with all the amazing people I’ve met.

i do agree there’s still plagiarism prominent on wattpad - why do you think it’s worse/harder to find? i was initially leaning towards tumblr bc i like the formatting and community but i’m just a bit nervous about how easy plagiarism is (tho i understand the risk on any site!) do stories spread quickly here? what’s your thoughts on posting work here?

hmm probably because I myself was plagiarised and it was done on wattpad, but also because the interaction type on wattpad is very different and way less than what is there on tumblr. on tumblr you have asks and dms and it's just a much more relaxed and interwoven?? community when it comes to writers and readers, where the readers actually tell you when your fic has been plagiarised or anything of the sort. on wattpad I find it much more rigid in a way, and half the fics over there are copy-pastes from other writers/sites anyways, so it really deters me from it. i have seen so many writers over here find out that their fic has been reposted on wattpad and i know its really frustrating to see your hard work put somewhere that you didn't credit to. the only reason I am still on wattpad is to crosspost so no one does it for me 🏃🏼‍♀️

and yes, like I said interaction wise tumblr definitely has its benefits. personally, I prefer tumblr because of the way your story can be found easily, readers tend to come back, and also because of the little community we've built here :') I also find it easier and much nicer since I can post a long one-shot or a series and have a good sense of continuity with a master post! and like I said I can also converse with my readers/followers/mutuals much more easily over here, especially through asks, and can find out if and when I have been plagiarised or any news really. one of the ways I found out about this whole mess was through an anon ask itself.

both sites have their pros and cons, and I am biased towards tumblr after using it for over a year now and finding it much better than wattpad. it's up to you of course, but this is my view on the subject!

Be warned though, he does toss and turn

And he will inevitably end up with all of the blankets

But it’s okay bc he’s actually a pretty warm guy, so if you get cold, cuddles are always an option

Even when he’s asleep, Shinsou will gladly pull you close and nuzzle his face into your shoulder or neck

He’s a super light sleeper and tends to have nightmares, but when he wakes up from them he’s always super considerate of you

He rarely wakes you up because of his dreams, and never on purpose

If he wakes you up, he’s always apologetic the minute he returns to a lucid headspace

He has difficulty sleeping, but will lecture you if you don’t get the sleep you need, often holding you there and rubbing your back gently until you fall asleep, just staring at the ceiling

Most of the time he wakes up before you

He’s also one of those people who doesn’t ever have a set schedule for what he does before bed

He of course brushes his teeth and washes his face, but never in the same order, and this could be done right before he goes to sleep, or hours before

He can and will fall asleep with the TV or his phone on. He actually can’t fall asleep in a silent, completely dark room unless he’s completely exhausted

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

I already mentioned nightmares and being a blanket hog

But he also talks in his sleep

Not a lot, just soft mumbling, and never full sentences

But he will say your name from time to time, which has you promptly melting

He also reaches for you often in his sleep, always throwing his arm across your shoulders or waist and drawing you in close

Sure, he tosses and turns and you’re not always being held by him, but after he rolls away or you do, it isn’t long before he’s reaching out for you

If you’ve happened to go tothe restroom or grab water, he will wake up after a moment of not finding you, because even in his sleep, he’s hyper aware of you

Aside from the occasional mumbles, he’s a quiet sleeper, never snoring

His sleep schedule? Non-existent.

And while he does get concerned if your sleeping habits are bad, it’s the definition of the pot calling the kettle black. Although he will try and get you to sleep, if you won’t he’s down to stay up with you

Who the heck is my muse anyway:

iona is a mutant and the leader of the nyxers (which is basically just a short way to say New York Mutants), a militant group meant to defend other mutants against discrimination by force. she is 24 and feels a little young to be running around helping mutants and being looked at as a role model, but iona does her best to be the leader that others need her to be. other nyxers are also present on this blog akdafaoi i’ll talk more about them later maybe

Points of interest:

Iona is kind of a young leader and she’s trying to be the best she can be, but that’s hard when she’s bound to fuck up

She cleans up after other mutant’s messes like all the time

She doesn’t really like humans, and can be kind of an asshole towards them

She is one of the OG Nyxers and only herself and one other is left

Those OG Nyxers were like her siblings. They all got raised and taught by the same person, Guardian. Originally, Iona was the youngest of them (she was 17 when they started, Guardian was 27, and their four other siblings ranged from 19-25).

Guardian was like their big sister. She brought together five other mutants, Iona included, to create the Nyxers. Their original intention was to defend the mutants inside and outside of District X. Three of the five were killed in various missions throughout the years, eventually leaving Iona, Guardian, and one other sibling remaining.

Guardian knew they needed to help the community by bringing in some sort of financial stability. Sasha hammer came around and offered her assistance if the Nyxers would push her weapons and drugs, kick included, to District X. It went against their values, but Iona, who was more interested in seeing the district prosper than caring what they sold, talked Guardian into letting them sell. Jax, a mutant capable of depowering other mutants, helped Sasha kill Guardian (who was influencing Iona to do good). With Guardian out of the way, Sasha steered Iona’s anger against humans (who she thought were the cause of Guardian’s death) and the Nyxers into an ugly path. It took two years for Iona to see a flaw in Sasha’s way of thinking. She started questioning Sasha, and that’s when Sash and Jax tried to repeat what happened to Guardian. Iona’s last sibling was the one who saved her from death, leaving Sasha wounded and retreating. Since then, Iona has been mending the Nyxers, as well as her own ways, into the path that Guardian originally intended.

What they’ve been up to recently:

In present day, Iona has just recently taken Sasha out of her life. She is still somewhat traumatized and guilt-ridden over the path she took the Nyxers to, and she blames herself for recent deterioration in District X. There’s a lot of blood on her hands, and she’s trying to come clean from it.

A few months after, Iona cleaned up the Nyxers (weeding out the mutants who only wanted to take the time to hurt other mutants) and stopped them from selling any further. She is starting to bring them back to their root cause, and spends a lot of time out in the city trying to keep up with other mutants.

Where to find them:

District X, running around New York City, wherever trouble is (especially if it has to do with mutants). You won’t see her mingling with humans much, but you will see her trying to recruit other mutants to do the right thing.

Current plans:

Basically looking for Iona going from villain to the antihero she was always meant to be. She’s gonna be going through a lot of guilt trips and struggles of being young(ish) but trying to be mature enough to be a good leader in the eyes of other mutants. This point is her growth in becoming a better person and a better leader.
