LAND AMONG THE STARS
Chapter 01 [masterlist]
Pairing: Luke Castellan x Child of Apollo Reader
Genre: Fluff
Word count: 2.6k
"Bring him to the infirmary, we'll let him rest there until he awakes." Gesturing to the very unconscious new demigod, Chiron nodded his head to you as a sign of giving you the responsibility to monitor him.
As the head of the Apollo's cabin, the majority of the injuries that required healing were given to you due to the gift your father had blessed you with. And as always, you never complained. Accepting those in need into your cabin was something that you welcomed as to show your gratefulness towards the ability you held in your hands.
As Percy, the name you heard Chiron greeted him with, laid on the bed freshly cleaned from the dirt and grimes from the night before, you couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards the boy.
Words carried through the air told you that his mother was sacrificed to protect him from the minotaur that was chasing them. Unconsciously, your eyes drifted towards the twisted horn on the table. Grover had brought it back with him as a 'trophy' of sorts.
Percy was brave. So was his mother, who was just a mere mortal.
Letting out a soft exhale through your nose, you turned back to the boy. Brows furrowed, the corner of his lips turned down. He must be having a nightmare of sorts. You hoped it wasn't to relieve what had happened last night.
Gently, you ran the pads of your fingers over his forehead, a soft glow illuminated under your palm. A smile formed on your face as you watched his face relaxing. At least you could keep the nightmares away for a little while. You were aware of how dreams may be a prophecy themselves and cannot be pushed away.
A knock on the door made you stand back up, turning as you did to face your visitor.
Of course, it was Annabeth.
The persistent Athena's child stood in the doorway of the room with a sheepish smile on her face. Which you reflected with an amused one of your own, already knowing her intentions of coming. Still, you had the means to ask her.
"Yes, Annabeth?"
"Sorry to bother you, but I know that you have other counselor duties out there..." Hopeful wide eyes started at you as she voiced out her wishes. You knew this already. Happens every time a new demigod enters. "I can help you look after him!"
A giggle escaped your mouth as your smile grew wider by her antics to you to let her observe the newcomer.
"Aren't you also a counselor?"
Stunned, Annabeth's mouth hung open as she couldn't form a quick response. You might as well save herself.
"Alright, alright. You can help me look after him."
Her body stood straighter, jolting upward with excitement? You couldn't tell much of her behavior, but one thing you knew of her, she always gets a way to obtain whatever she wants.
"But~ you have to report to me if anything happens, deal?"
"Deal!" With a firm handshake, though it was not needed to do so but she had held out her hand first, you left her with monitoring duty as you made your way to the said 'counselor duties'.
🏹 Your pov
A few days passed since he first arrived. And the day he woke up you left Grover with him to go outside of camp for more supplies of bandaids, ibuprofen, and other. Sure you had the ability to heal minor injuries in minutes, but for other bigger cases, they would need help from mortal creations to not drain the energy out of you. Added to the fact that you loved to experiment with new medical knowledge that you had read from the books you borrowed from the Athena's cabin.
After your quick run, you went back to camp and into the infirmary to check up on Percy.
Only to be greeted by an empty unmade bed. The horn was still there on the table.
Another patient waking up fine was a satisfaction in your book.
With a little smile on your face, you went to unload your supplies in the storage cabinet and back to work on your checklist of To-Dos for the day.
🔱 Percy's pov
"Is it time to give up? I don't think I'm good at any of this," Feeling dejected and disappointed in himself, Percy couldn't help but feel bad for Luke. He felt like he's wasting his time trying to help him.
"It's useless," he let out under his breath, eyes trailing the dirt under his shoes.
"Hey come one don't give up yet," Putting a firm hand on Percy's shoulder, Luke gave him the same smile he showed him throughout the day. He couldn't understand how he's so persistent and helpful.
A contrast to the previous people that had dealt with him in his life, always giving up and thrown around. But this time, he felt hopeful to have made a genuine connection with someone. Even if he felt guilty. But he swore that he was really trying.
"I have one more thing you can try," Patting him on the back twice, Luke got up from the pavilion's stairs where they were sitting and stood up. Offering a hand for Percy to take. "Come on."
Percy knew the trail here. Next to the Big House, as they called it. The infirmary where he started his day at. What was he going to do here? All his life he had been getting injured rather than being the one to heal injuries.
He gave a look of incredulity at Luke. However, Percy noticed his demeanor change. The way he's holding back a smile that threatens to spread across his face as if not to show excitement, running a hand through his hair. And the way his back straightened before he lifted his knuckles to knock on the door. He was preparing to present himself to someone.
Crossing through the threshold, the place was quiet and calm.
"Yes?" A voice came from another part of the building. From the... kitchen? Which seemed like to Percy as they both filed into the room. The smell of antibiotics was much stronger here. The smell of hospitals and clinics.
"Hey, [Y/N]," Luke greeted the girl who was standing over the counter top in the middle of the room with various pill bottles and a ceramic mortar and pestle in the centre of it.
They both stopped short away from her. Guessing it was to not contaminate her pristine workspace with their dirty air from a whole day of camp tour. But Percy felt like they had already done that the moment they took their first step into the cabin. He almost said sorry out loud.
"Luke! And oh Percy! I'm so glad you woke up," Taking the white latex gloves off of her hands, she gave them a bright smile, one comparable to the sun as the room seemed to brighten up a bit. At least that's what Percy felt. He glanced over at Luke for confirmation but found that he was staring at the girl. The tone of her voice was clear with excitement.
It didn't take a genius to tell that she was a daughter of Apollo. I mean, she's already working in the infirmary. Wasn't that obvious enough?
But now, Percy noticed, her presence was a calming one. He instantly felt gravitated towards her. With what the sun being the centre of the solar system while the planets move around her. He liked her already. Another possible genuine friend maybe?
"I came back this morning to check up on you but you weren't here so I thought you had gone around camp on your own," Rounding the corner of the counter, she stood in front of them with her hands inside of the front pockets of her lab coat before leaning on the counter. The same smile still on her face. She really reminded Percy of a real mortal doctor.
Suddenly feeling shy under her gaze, Percy rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah, sorry, I just needed to move right away you know," his eyes kept glancing from the girl to the ground, "from being in bed for days."
Gaze softening, her smile was pulled into a line, "It's okay, all that matters was your well being," Her voice quieted a bit, "I'm sorry for what happened."
The air suddenly felt heavy. But before the grey stormy cloud could form in his mind, she reached out her hand, "My name is [Y/N] by the way. It's nice to finally meet you formally," Percy replied to her saying it was likewise as well.
"Thanks for taking care of me," he added.
"Anytime," she replied.
Luke continued with the subject of why they were here in the first place with a clear of his throat.
"I'm showing Percy around camp today and trying to find something he's good at," Gesturing to him.
🏹 Your pov
"Oh that's nice! How did it go? Do you like it here?" Clapping her hand once, you turned your attention from Luke to Percy.
"I haven't found anything I'm good at yet, but Luke said I could try here," He doesn't sound very confident in himself which amused you. It must have been so tiring for him to go through everything on his first day. You guessed the thirst for achieving glory was strong with this one.
"It's fine, you have plenty of time to figure that out. A lot of us have been through this too, know that."
Not missing a beat, you turned on your heels to the closet at the corner of the room, "Here, wash your hands and sanitize them first," Opening the closet, you search for two lab coats that fit both of them as you heard them do as you ordered.
As you helped to put Percy's coat on, he asked you, "So... What do you do here?" Like it was not clear as day enough, but hey, conversations must start somewhere right?
"She's the head counselor of Apollo's cabin. And she's kind of like our doctor here. Heals people and stuff with her magic," Luke said before you could answer him yourself. Raising your eyebrows at him, you crossed your arms over your torso, a habit you unconsciously did.
"Healer? Magic?," Percy looked between you two with wonder, it intrigued him for sure,"Like a Cleric?" The term was not foreign to you as it was thrown at you a couple of times by the campers that played Dungeons and Dragons.
"Yeah, like that. I heal people with my glowing hands," Holding up your hand and wiggling your fingers, you made the air around them shimmer with a part of your partly divine energy.
Looking up behind Percy, you saw Luke smiling at you. At this moment, he looked like a brotherly figure to Percy. That made your heart full to see him take in these new demigods and made them feel welcomed.
As much as he detested his father, he is a son of Hermes, who welcomed all travelers.
"That's so cool!" His blue eyes widen with new interest. You thought it was endearing.
"Okay," a clap of your hands, "All is clean, now you can help me make this soothing cream from this book I've read last night!"
🔱 Percy's pov
The need to impress her was overwhelming to Percy. He had never been more concentrated in his life since the day he first tried to read the scrambled words in his book.
Speaking of reading, he remembered that Luke had mentioned every demigods has the same problem. Which was why he asked about this to her as she traced the lines of a brown journal that looked like it had been through some stuff with worn down leather cover.
Pulling out a pair of gold wire frame glasses from her lab coat pocket, she handed it to him. "I use this. It's a special glasses made by the Hephaestus kids few years back. Helps with the dyslexia."
Examining the glasses in his hand, the craftsmanship of it was amazing. Not only does it serves its function, but the design of the frame with little gears magically rotating on the sides. He gave them back to her so as to not suddenly trip and fall and break the glasses.
An hour of science experiment later, Percy helped scoop the baby blue cream into a pot with a spatula. He couldn't believe that he actually made something today without failing! Maybe he was good at something here. But was he really a child of Apollo? It does not seem fit to him.
"Great job, Percy! It was a success," Resting her hands on her waist, she gave him a proud look, which was very satisfying for him. He smiled back at her.
"Apollo might just be your dad," Giving Percy a brotherly pat on the back, Luke gave him a reassuring smile.
"I don't think so, I don't have your eyes," Looking at her, Percy referred to the golden ring around her iris. The first striking thing that had caught his gaze the first time.
It was mesmerizing to see it flicker under the light. He realized why Luke had been stealing glances at her this whole time. Talking to her to get her attention just to see those golden eyes of hers.
"Am I doing this right, [Y/N]?"
" How do I do this, [Y/N]?"
"Which one of these bottles has this again?"
Anything really even though Percy knew that her instructions were pretty clear and with everything labeled you can't mess it up. But it was fun to see him being a chaos and her being so calm responding to him.
A little voice in his head was telling him something was up between these two counselors.
Percy started to think that it was more like Luke that wanted to go here for himself rather than helping him out to find his godly parent. But that didn't leave a negative thought in his head if it meant something to Luke.
"Oh this you get after you've been claimed," Pointing to her eyes, "Like Luke said, you'll never know! I would love to have another brother." The way she said it almost made Percy want to be claimed immediately. To be under her cozy comforting wing as a big sister who has a maternal aura to them, who wouldn't want that? Or was it just him missing his mom?
"I'm going to take this to the Ares cabin, they're the ones who requested it. Said something about muscle soreness or whatever. I thought they didn't get those?" Biting on her bottom lip as the realization came to her, for a moment she was lost in her thoughts.
"But anyway, thank you for helping me and," She looked up to him, " I hope you get settled in today. If you want help with anything, you know where to find me." Winking at him, she started to put away the bottles back to their respective places on the shelves.
"Meet you for dinner later?" Stopping before he exited the room, Luke looked back at her.
"Sure. See ya!" Waving them goodbye, they both thanked her and waved back before leaving the cabin.
But one look at Luke, Percy could tell that he was hoping to stay there longer. It was very calming compared to the chaos of the camp activities outside.
Still, he followed Luke outside.

Arjun and Ghost 🏹💀
"What's the order, Captain?"
"To get the job done and dusted."
The Ghosts reporting for duty! Finally, I got a chance to draw the two together and I'm so happy 🥹
Introducing Captain Arjun K. Dhingra from the 9 PARA SF (Ghost Regiment) and Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley from the SAS! I can usually imagine their first interaction to be pretty awkward, the two of them just staring at each other with their poker faces and everyone in the team goes like ".. are they okay?"
I know Ghost isn't the one to trust people easily, and he wouldn't open up with Arjun that quickly. But the Captain would often encourage the Lieutenant with his experiences and console him through the hard times he went through, making Ghost slowly start to earn his trust on the Captain.
When Graves and the Shadow Company betrayed the 141, Ghost told the Captain to escape but Arjun wasn't ready to leave without him, and ordered him to retreat with Soap first. But unfortunately, they two escaped separately with Sgt. MacTavish, finding a way to rendezvous with each other further to stop Graves and Shepherd.
Here is the lineart and flat colored version of this art! Hope you like it! <3

blossomingbellflower:
🏹 The flinch didn’t go unnoticed by the woman. Perhaps it was an anomaly, the way she had touched him or something else entirely. Regardless, she let it be and dropped her hand as he pulled himself to his feet. “You are a strong one, Sora. The blood that ran through your brother, runs through you. No matter what this life brings, I am certain your family is proud of you.”
Once Sora was on his feet, they resumed their search for the remaining arrows. Eyes continued to survey the landscape as they drew closer and closer to the intact arrow Sesshomaru had found. That is, until, she heard the response uttered by the youth.
“You must stay here? But why?..It is not safe and the villagers need you.”
Kikyou came to a halt, her gaze returning to Sora as her eyebrows knitted together in a small, concerned frown. Yes. She had heard the wording. ‘Must’ indicated an important need or duty. The way it was said, had nothing to do with understandable fright but something else.
Kikyou had not forgotten what the elder had spoken about pertaining to Sora. She recalled the conversation as she regarding the young man before resuming her steps. While her eyes continued to search for the arrows, her mind deliberated and processed everything thus far. It did not make sense as to why he would wish to linger in this forest. Not only was it dangerous and foreboding, but from her understanding, it was where his brother was slain as well.
So why?
With every step, the pair drew closer and closer to the spot where the intact arrow lay.
“Sora…you are not a coward. This I know. So why ‘must’ you stay?..” Kikyou pondered whether to continue with her line of questioning, once again thinking back to the elder. They were running out of time. She suppose if need be..she could summon Kochō and Asuka, the two shikigamis. They were capable of constructing a barrier that could protect the people and decimate the bees. It was a possible solution. If they were constructed out of paper, it would be a simple task for them to collect the clues and bring it to Sesshomaru.
For now, however, they still had some time before the anticipated attack began.
Kikyou sighed softly and briefly glanced upwards into the trees, observing the light penetrating through the canopy. “The reason I am here other than to ensure your safety and protect the village from further harm, is to find the cause of these attacks.”, she elaborated. “This is not an isolated occurrence..as it has transpired at other villagers as well.” Of course, she was going to omit their village was the lone one to have suffered such severe outcomes and significant casualties.
“I am looking for anything that may help explain this. As such, when I spoke with the elder earlier, he told me you were behaving peculiar.”, she stated softer, gentler. “He reported that you mentioned something like a ‘prize’. He could not comprehend what you were trying to say..but I was hoping you could explain it to me..What prize? And..is the ‘prize’ related to why you cannot depart this forest and return with me to the village?”
As she finished, brown eyes caught sight of some feathers peeking out of the nearest bushes. Turning away for a moment, she headed to investigate and bent over. When she pulled her hand out of the thicket, the intact arrow was within her grasp. Blood stained the arrow and perhaps a few scratches, but otherwise the arrow was fine. It was not broken or splintered. As for the blood..it was not demonic. No abnormalities to indicate it was…so one can assume it was one of the arrows Sora’s brother released before his passing.
Again, the shrine priestess was filled with a sense of frustration, loss and anger. This shouldn’t have happened but it did. It was fairly common in this era and Kikyou could not be everywhere. Still..the sensations that brewed in her chest was only made worse due to the fact that this was not random. It was calculated and planned. Someone was responsible for the tragedy of this village and the fear, as well as suffering, that ran rampant through the others.
Tsk. Turning back to face the male once more, she opened her palm to give him the arrow once she had finished studying it. There can be no rest until the one responsible was caught or if it wasn’t a person, the cause addressed and taken apart so no further harm could come to others.
The boy refused to speak any further as he continued to shut her out. There was a reason he’d shut her out and he’d continue to do so. No amount of questioning would prompt him to speak, and trying to appeal to him through the villagers only upset him further if the way he snorted in frustration was any indication of such. From where Sesshomaru was resting atop a sturdy tree branch, he could reason where Kikyo had erred. If the reason for him shutting her out was her suggesting they go back to the village, and he’d showed signs of refusing to speak to her any further after the fact, then he wasn’t going to open up again until the cause of his discontent was resolved.
Which is to say, she either had to leverage against him forcing him back with her if he refused to divulge information, or agree to let him stay, but please open up again and explain. Though the young boy wouldn’t know of it, he’d be safe from harm given that Sesshomaru and Jaken would be staying within the forest even if Kikyo had left him to protect the village.
Of course, that wasn’t to say that Sesshomaru believed that Kikyo would leave a child behind if the way she’d helped the hanyo children from back in the cave pass into the afterlife.
If he were thinking rationally, it would be best for him to come clean with everything so that she could do whatever it was she needed to do, but there was something he wanted to do- no, something he NEEDED to do in order to not have any lingering regrets in his life. Maybe it was pride. Maybe it was the regret. Whichever the case, he didn’t want to give up on the chance he had to get a small bit of revenge against the Saimyosho or forever be stuck with a stagnation of his past haunting him for the rest of his life.
He’d almost considered saying something upon knowing that other villages were attacked as well, but seeing as Kikyo had no clue about ‘the prize,’ he knew that what was happening in other villages and his village had to be different. Since she hadn’t said a word about allowing him to stay in the village, he was sure that if he told her the truth, he’d have the ‘prize’ taken from him and then escorted back to the village.
Unwilling to allow that, he steeled his resolve and continued to keep quiet as he continued his search for the memento of his brother.
The Miko had found the arrow before he had and she handed it to him, where he inspected it. Seeing that it was stained with blood, he frowned, clutching it close to his chest. “This was one of my Father’s arrows he made. Aniki always carried it around but didn’t use it.” Something like a lucky charm, or something. An item that made him feel like their Father was always around, an embodiment of comfort. This was something that Sesshomaru could relate to as he continued to tote Tenseiga around on his hip, even if it was mostly useless as a sword. Despite how rarely it saw any use, it was a memento bequeathed to him by Toga. That alone made it somewhat worth being carried around.
Sora had a reason to believe that in a last-ditch effort of doing anything with his dying breath, he fired this very arrow. Luckily, it remained intact. It was a shame that none of the arrows that his brother personally made survived the scuffle, but he had other mementos of his brother’s at home. Retrieving this arrow alone was more than enough to comfort him. Along with the other broken arrows, he placed the intact arrow into his quiver.
Then, he walked over to a tree and started to climb up. Heaven forbid he chose a tree that the two Demons were in, but the unorthodox action caught them off guard. Unnerved over whether he could spot them, Sesshomaru quickly moved to be out of his line of sight, just in case. “I’m not leaving this forest. I have something to do.”

Ride (Clint & Laura)
Laura Conroy liked being a SHIELD agent.
She got to work with the best in the Intelligence community, both domestic and foreign, see technology that was far more advanced than anything the public knew about, and GS pay grade was high enough that she paid off her student loans ahead of schedule, had a decent apartment in Georgetown (even though she still needed a roommate), and was starting to think about saving for the future.
Plus she’d even managed to navigate dating within your work and catch the eye of one of the top field agents; Clint Barton.
Her phone buzzed with Clint’s face appearing on her lockscreen. Smiling at the goofy grin with the National Mall in the background, Laura tapped the screen to look at the text.
Meet me for lunch? 🏹
Laura had to smother a smile at the bow and arrow emoji that he used instead of his name.
“I know it’s to keep it anonymous in-case anyone sees, but it’s a little on the nose.” she thought while tapping out a response and getting back to work before Phil came in to see if the reports were done yet.
The time to lunch passed quickly and set her away message before grabbing her purse and heading towards the elevator.
“Laura! Want to join us? We were going to try that new place on L street.” Laura’s cubiclemate asked as she waited for the elevator.
“Sorry, but I’ve got a lunch date.”
“Is it the same mystery man you’ve been seeing for the last month? You’ll have to tell HR if it gets serious.”
“Yes and I know.” Laura was glad that the elevator arrived as she was talking, avoiding the fact that it was SHIELD policy to disclose relationships.
“Especially internal ones.” she thought, quickly walking through the hubbub of the main entrance and towards the parking garage. She liked being with Clint, but wasn’t sure if all the strings attached were worth it.
--
A few days later Laura was enjoying the warm spring day by airing out her Georgetown apartment when her phone buzzed. It was Clint, this time asking her to look out her window.
Curious, she did and was surprised to see Clint Barton leaning on his motorcycle on the street below. Shaking her head while laughing, she texted back.
What are you doing here? -L
It’s a nice day, how about a ride to really enjoy it?- 🏹
Be right down. -L
Laura shoved her phone in her pocket and grabbed a jacket. Hesitating for a second, she made up her mind and quickly grabbed her off-duty weapon-slipping the holster onto the waistband of her jeans next to her SHIELD ID. Her long shirt and jacket covered both and soon she was down.
“Is this part of ‘I want to be spontaneous’ thing you were talking about the other day?” she asked as Clint handed her a helmet and she put it on.
“Something like that.” Clint replied with an easy smile once Laura was sitting behind him and had her arms wrapped around his waist. “Also I wanted to spend time with you.”
As Clint merged into D.C. traffic, Laura couldn’t help but ask something that had been bugging her since they’d started to see each other regularly. “Isn’t Agent Romanov going to get jealous?”
Clint focused on the cars around him until they were out of enough traffic for him to respond. “Nat and I are really good friends and teammates. No matter what the office gossip says. In fact, she’s the one who told me to ask you out.”
“No way.” Laura knew the surprise was in her voice as they sped down the street, the cherry blossom tress nearly blurring together. “I’m surprised that Agent Romanov even knows I exist.”
Clint laughed as they came to a stop at a red light and they automatically placed their feet on the ground. “You can call her Natasha when we’re outside of SHIELD. And yes, she likes how you always keep Strike Team Delta’s files up to date and organized.”
“Wow, the Black Widow likes my filing.” Laura smiled, realizing that spending time with Clint was the one thing she looked forwards too. He might be an idiot sometimes, but he made up for it with compassion and focus.
And that alone was worth sticking around to see if what they had went anywhere.

🏹 “I will. Thank you for your assistance, wise elder.” As Kikyou was about to depart in search of the orphaned young man, she heard the elder speak once more. Soft, patient and warm mocha hues slid back towards the other as a light smile touched her lips. “Of course. After the samiyosho have been taken care of, I will assist with the living and perform the rites for the deceased.”, she reassured. It was the least she could do for the villagers. It won’t bring back the dearly departed but with hope, help them on their journey and bring some solace to those left behind to mourn.
—-
“I see..I will. I have no desire to cause further distress or harm to that young boy. He has endured far too much already.” Kikyou’s eyes surveyed the surroundings as she succinctly summarized all that she had gleaned from the elder. “The fatalities and injuries are quite high–which contrasts greatly to the other villages this has happened to.” Granted there were a few factors that could possibly assist in explaining this occurrence, it still failed to fully account for the tragedy. What was clear was this particular village was hit hard and without mercy. Many lives had been lost and many more injured. Any mercy and good will that may have been shown to the other villages..such as the last where they dropped the children close to the ground preventing injury, seemed to be non-existent here. It had been ruthless..and Kikyou intended to find out why.
“Unfortunately I could not examine the bodies of the fallen as they have been tended to..but aside from ensuring the safety of this child..it was said he murmured some strangeness to the elder before departing for the forest..Something akin to a present of sorts..But..I would also not put it past the trauma to have affected him thusly..” Poor Sora had been with his brother at the time of the assault..and also had to watch his mother pass from grief. It would be understandable if the pain and horror had impacted him severely. As one who had seen her parents just mere moments before their death and after, when they were returned to the village in pieces…she was quite well versed in the despairing depths of loss, survivor’s guilt and loneliness to name a few.
“I will see to the young boy.”
Passing the information she had gleaned onto the daiyokai, Kikyou could now focus entirely on the youth. Even if there was nothing more to learn or no clues to obtain, Sora’s current condition troubled her heart greatly. He should not be on his own right now. It was quite dangerous and there were others that did worry for him. The elder would have less to be distracted by, once he knew Sora was safe and nearby. Due to his duties and responsibilities, Kikyou knew the elder could not search for himself..as much as have wanted to. It was speculation of course…but at the very least, the elder appeared to sincerely care for the boy.
Stepping away from Sesshomaru, Kikyou continued her search for the young man. As instructed, she introduced her title in hopes of providing some reassurance and earning some semblance of trust.
“Sora. I am here only to help your village and put an end to these attacks. I am a wandering shrine maiden..whose origins commenced not too far from here.” Approximately two villages or so away. “I apologize for arriving as late as I have..but I can assure you,..I will do all in my power to prevent further harm to you and the villagers. Please come on out. I shall lower my bow and quiver, for I mean you no harm.” Coming to a halt, Kikyou crouched to the forest floor and stripped herself of her bow and quiver. Her gaze scanned the area, attentive to the surroundings as she slowly rose to her feet and abandoning her weapons upon the ground.
Hopefully..that would be enough to draw the young one out..or at the very least, get him to speak with her.
Sesshomaru listened to her report from the intel she’d gathered from the village. It would seem that much of the clues that could have aided them were already dealt with, and not to a fault of the village. The reason why animals chose to die in secrecy was to not allow disease or predators to be attracted to their packmates. It was only right for the village to do with the deceased in a prompt manner as to not exacerbate their already dire situation. Curious and curiouser that this village was the one that took the brunt of the Saimyosho’s force as opposed to a different village. One would think that the 4th village would have it the worse as the number was associated with death.
With a jerking motion of his head, he wordlessly hinted at where the boy had last been seen. She could slowly approach the boy, or remain where she was and wait for the boy to come from that general direction. The Daiyoukai given Kikyo a few words of advice, and that was all he’d be necessary for. In order to not be cause for distrust once the boy can be coaxed out of his hiding place, Sesshomaru had gracefully leapt into a tree to hide his presence. He'd sought Jaken whose task was to watch over the boy, so by tracing his scent, he knew how far away the boy was.
The quiet of the forest was uncanny, but no mystery. With two attacks from the Saimyosho originating from this forest, the wildlife had made themselves scarce in order to save themselves. It may be some time before the ecosystem that once thrived in these forests would return to what once was. In such a situation, Kikyo’s voice easily carried through the forest for the youth to hear. He listened to her voice and wavered for a moment, clutching onto the arrows that he'd been picking up this entire while in his hands tightly. As if he were gaining the strength from the arrows his brother had made, he emerges from his hiding place in the thickets and followed where he’d heard her voice coming from.
Arrows held tightly to his chest, he hides behind a tree to scope the scene, to see that Kikyo did look the part of a Miko and that she’d laid her bow and quiver to the ground. As a youth who had a strong affinity for the bow, he felt a kind of connection with the Miko who must have been familiar with the same weapon. It took a steady and calm heart to fire a bow with precision and accuracy. A kind of camaraderie can be formed from similar likeness, such as the preference to weaponry.
“Why are you here and not in the village?” Sora asks from behind the tree, still a tad hesitant on approaching. He’d think that addressing the situation at the village was more important than talking to him. The others mostly avoided him out of being unsure of how to approach him. He saw no reason for anyone to come out of their way to come looking for him, as they were always sure he’d return to the village eventually. It was where all the tools he needed to make arrows were, after all. “Did the village tell you to come find me?”
“Mi’lord, it seems the young lad is still quiet wary.”
❝Survival instincts are strong in this one.❞
His wariness was understandable after having met tragedy after tragedy in such short succession. If he was the only one in the village who held an important key they were searching for, Sora had to be as wary as the next tragedy survivor. The two Demons perched high up in a tree, speaking in such a low hushed tone that was imperceptible by human ears watched on.
They stopped when Sora tensed and looked about. He could’ve sworn he heard something in the otherwise quiet forest, and the two Demons went silent. Frankly, Sesshomaru was impressed. He reasoned that Sora was rather used to paying close attention to sound, perhaps a hunter. Spatial awareness being imperative to scoring game or avoiding trouble, it could be considered ‘luck’ for the key to have fallen into the hands of such a child. In this way, he wouldn’t be so easily tricked to leave the key with someone else. “You can’t take me back. Not yet.” He still had arrows and arrow heads to find.
