closed starter, supply depot thorin and rory @rviner
.
He's watched her around the town ever since he saw her in the forest, witnessing the way she can tame a wild bear. He's not made it obvious, Thorin hiding around corners and being as inconspicuous as possible to learn as much about her as he can. Skoll must be right, she's sent from the Gods. Embodying the traits of a nervous or scared wolf to hide her true form. It's the perfect disguise, Thorin thinks. Nobody would ever suspect she's a Goddess in the flesh and able to tame bears with how she jitters and speaks hurried and rushed. The only reason why he is at the supply depot now is because of her, and because Thorin feels ready to speak to her. He hides behind a crate that she is about to lift, and when she does his eyes widen in awe. "I will keep your secret." he whispers intensely, eyes blazing with idolization. "Tell me, which one are you? Have you been sent to make sure I learn my lesson? Can you tell me what it is?"

Blue Ribbon Part 1 - relaunch
Part 3 of the Lemon Meringue AU
AO3
In which Thorin hatches a plot to share his legendary pies at the Midsummer fair
I’m rewriting this whole piece, since I managed to write myself into a bit of a dead end with my previous version.
I’m tagging those of you who either liked or reblogged the original version of Blue Ribbon: @starkgazingirl @scarlet-5657 @a-literal-hobbit @hardychick89 @bagginstook @kiandrahelene @angelsallfire @pooh1978
I have the next chapter in final edits, and I’ve started on chapter 3 already. It’s looking like a 5-chapter piece, and then there will be one final story in the series... Hope you enjoy!
Bilbo Baggins was quite content to pass his morning in the sun-soaked, bustling market, in search of the perfect summer squash.
Thorin had expressed a craving for it, and Bilbo amused himself by envisioning the beautiful dishes he could make for his husband. Perhaps a saute with colorful peppers and ripe cherry tomatoes. Or layer it and bake with bread crumbs and some good hard cheese from over in Buckland. Old Rori Brandybuck was sure to enter some at the fair in a few days, and with a little luck, he’d come early and could be coaxed to stay up at Bag End for the festivities. Frodo would be delighted to see Merry, and like as not, wild little Peregrine would tag along for the adventure as well. They could have quite the merry little party for Midsummer’s Eve this year.
A likely looking candidate at a nearby table brought his musings to a temporary halt, and he ducked and wove his way through the crowd with single-minded purpose that would have made Thorin laugh out loud.
Tim Boffin had overpriced his squashes, as usual, but Bilbo was in a fine mood for haggling. Within minutes, he had knocked Tim down to two-thirds price on two of his prettiest specimens, and gotten a lovely sweet pepper out of the deal, too. Feeling quite proud of his prizes - and quite content with the fact that he now would not need to choose between a saute and a layered bake - Bilbo headed for home, eager for Thorin’s opinion on which they should make first.
“Bilbo! Bilbo!”
Halfway across the market bridge, Bilbo whirled and saw someone was waving a paper above the heads of the other hobbits in the market. Maisy Brownlock materialized out of the crowd, skirt rumpled, hat askew, and breathlessly shoved the paper at Bilbo. He juggled his shopping out of the way, nearly dumping his beautiful squash into the dirt.
“Maisy, what --”
It’s for Thorin,” she panted, trying to catch her breath without looking like she was catching her breath. Bilbo imagined it wasn’t ladylike to pant. Though why she should concern herself with that when he could see Everard Bolger behind her, perched on a crate and waving his walking stick in their direction - he caught the distinct shape of the words “disturbers of the peace” - was beyond him.
“What is it?” He settled his basket more securely into the crook of his arm and smoothed out the crumpled paper.
“An entry form, of course,” Maisy chirped. “Thorin’s expressed interest in the pie contest, and since I was down delivering muffins at the fair office this morning, Bill Sandyman asked me to bring this right over on my way back.”
Bilbo had had no idea Thorin was even remotely interested. He hadn’t said anything about entering any of his metalwork, and Bilbo had rather assumed that was the end of it. “Thank you, Maisy,” he began, “but -”
Maisy held up a hand to forestall his protest and raised her chin. “I won’t have it said I tried to win by default. Thorin will have a fair shot like everyone else - even if my lemon meringue has taken top prize the last four years running.”
“Well, er, thank you, Maisy,” Bilbo offered. “That’s very big of you.”
“It’s nothing,” she replied, flipping her curls back over her shoulder and nudging her hat back into its customarily jaunty angle. “It’s just good to see him settling down into a more hobbit-like way of doing things. There were some, you know, who thought a dwarf could never fit in here, but I say, there really is no better way to cement a place here than to enter something in the MIdsummer Fair, however it turns out.”
“Er, as you say, I’m sure.”
“Wish Thorin luck for me, Bilbo,” Maisy chirped, smoothing her skirt. “I’ll see you two on fair day!”
As Maisy disappeared back into the crowded market, Bilbo was struck by a sudden, awful thought. He peered down at the brilliantly yellow vegetables in his basket, suddenly suspicious.

Prompt: thorin meeting frodo
Thorin paced back and forth, back and forth in Bag End’s parlor. From where Bilbo stood, checking over his pack, he sighed.
“Thorin,” Bilbo said, turning towards him. “Please calm down.”
“What if he does not like me?”
“I do not think that is going to be a problem,” he said, taking Thorin’s hands in his. “As all children flock to you, and I do not think Frodo will be any different.”
Thorin could only manage a worried look in reply. Bilbo patted his hand in comfort before they left Bag End, down Bagshot Row, and to Buckland.
By the time they arrived, much of Thorin’s worry had quieted. What Bilbo had said was true. He’d been good with his nephews and the children in the Shire would indeed flock to him the moment he stepped outside of Bag End.
Rorimac, one of Bilbo’s cousins, welcomed them inside.
“Good to see you again, Rory,” Bilbo said, setting his pack down. “I’ll see myself to Frodo, first, if you don’t mind.”
“No, that is quite fine, cousin,” Rorimac said, offering Thorin a smile before addressing Bilbo again. “He’s been asking after you since you left.”
“Thorin, dear, wait here. I’ll bring Frodo out.” Bilbo disappeared with Rorimac into the hall, leaving Thorin standing in the parlor.
They came back down the hall, Bilbo accompanied now by a younger hobbit. He had dark hair and striking pair of blue eyes, and if Thorin had not known himself, he could certainly think the young hobbit a child of his and Bilbo’s.
He shook the thought from his mind as Bilbo came over to his side.
“Frodo,” Bilbo said. “This is Thorin. I’ve told you about him, you remember?”
Frodo looked at Thorin and then hid behind Rorimac’s leg. “Ah,” said the other hobbit.
Bilbo squeezed Thorin’s hand before stepping towards Frodo. “He’s very nice, my boy. I promise he will not bite or anything.”
After a moment, Frodo crept out from behind his uncle and towards Bilbo and Thorin.
“Hello,” he said, staring at Thorin.
Thorin had the thought now and knelt down. He hoped it made him less intimidating for the hobbit. “Thorin Oakenshield, at your service.”
A shy smile crept onto Frodo’s face. “Bilbo said that is how you greet others..”
“Indeed it is,” Thorin said, smiling warmly. “And did he tell you how family greets one another among family?”
Frodo did not say anything but he, to Thorin’s surprise, bonked their heads together lightly. “That’s what he said. Is it right?”
A full smile broke upon Thorin’s mouth. “Aye,” he said, reaching up to ruffle Frodo’s hair, “that is correct.”

Thorin swells with pride, not expecting anything less from Freya's wisdom. He nods, gratefully and vigorously as being in her presence he feels a growing sense of enlightenment. And when the Goddess Freya demands he leaves, Thorin ducks away to immediately respect the order. Except a burning question is on his tongue again, and he comes hurrying toward her but crouching again so she is always higher than he is. "Oh, yes I will leave but Freya...why are you with the Cross wolves after what they did to our homes?" he asks this question not as an accusation, but desperate for clarity. "Is there a lesson there, too?"
She wants the ground to open up and swallow her whole, that's the truth of the matter. But, for the sake of Athena, Rory is standing with a straightened spine and channeling her muddled ideas of whatever a Goddess must look or feel like. She stares to the other wolf, projecting her fear into fierceness and it's uncomfortable. "Good. But you do not deserve praise for doing exactly what is expected of you." she whispers harshly, a small 'Oh God, I'm so sorry you seem like an okay dude' echoing in the back of her mind. And then he goes one step further, pledging his life for hers and Rory blinks while she tries to maintain stoic instead of panicked. "I will remember this conversation." she nods simply, waving her hand in what she hopes appears as dismissal. "S-shoo."

Thorin now believes he must be one of the most trusted, respected wolves to ever grace the White River pack. His smile is proud, pupils blown wide as he revels the presence of both Odin and Freya. "Of course you are always together, you gave him all of his powerful sons." he whispers, because it makes complete sense to him. Another bow follows to Odin and Freya, Thorin grinning like the cat that caught the canary. "Yes, I am Thorin Jansen and I have five brothers. Hati, Skoll, Vidar, Loki and Egil. But, I will not utter a word of this to anybody." he promises, vows even with his hand on his chest. Foreshadowing would mention how Thorin cannot control his mouth, but he is far too excited in this moment to think about it.
Although, he does think it is strange Freya would wish to protect a rabbit so fiercely. "A rabbit." he muses, deciding to not question her to her face and his eyes move to Odin to see if the great wise God agrees this rabbit needs protecting. "I promise. With my life. If anything happens to either the bear or the rabbit, you can do with me what you wish." he cackles slightly, reminding himself to be serious and respectable. "Does this mean...we are friends? I am friends with...Gods?" @ofwrxth
Levi blinks down at Rory, an incredulous look crossing his face before it turns to heavy amusement. He bites back a grin and clears his throat. "Thorin," Levi repeats, doing his best not to laugh. "Thank you for introducing us...Freya." He chews on the inside of his cheek, casting eyes upward to avoid breaking face. Taking a breath, he catches the name Thorin whispers and his smile grows. Oh, this is amazing. "That's right." He nods, squeezing Rory's shoulder affectionately. "I see you have discerned our human forms," he schools his features, nodding sagely before he looks at Rory, blue eyes sparking with mischief. "Only those with true...uh...eyes and sight to see, are able to do so. You are one of the few, Thorin." Levi, or Odin, gives a solemn nod. "You have many brothers, don't you, Thorin?" He racks his brain for a last name before snapping his fingers, "Jansens, right?" He clears his throat, "I mean, you are of the Jansen clan, are you not?" @rviner

Thorin listens closely to Freya's almighty wisdom, a gasp dancing from his lips because Skoll said the same. How there's a lesson in everything. His brother is so clever, perhaps why he is called the Mindbreaker. But...fates connected to the Cross? Thorin wishes to scoff but he would never be so rude in front of a God. "I will...try to remember that. Thank you for giving me a better view of the fates, Freya." he bows again, slowly ducking away when another wolf joins.
At first, Thorin's instinct is to protect the Goddess but then the wolf's arm slings around her shoulders and Thorin's face is a mixture of awe and confusion. "Odin." he whispers to himself, watching the exchange between Freya and the wise God. "Oh now this makes sense why you look in your reflection. You are happy to have your eye back, and so nobody notices it is gone." he says surely to the wisest God among their beliefs. "Freya and Odin, I am honored." @ofwrxth
Levi spots Rory talking to one o the viking wolves when he walks into the depot, carrying a crate. At first he doesn't do anything, just observes, a bit curious about why the wolf is kneeling. But then he watches Rory's spine straighten, an authority in her expression he's hardly seen and can't resist the slight grin of amusement. Setting the crate down finally, Levi waltzes over to her side. He rakes his hair back and drops an arm across her shoulder as he lowers his voice in kind, "What're we whispering about?"

"Ah-ro-ror." Thorin breaks down her name as he repeats it, nodding to show he follows. But, he has never heard of the Goddess Aurora before...only tales about an aura above ancestor's lands that shimmered in deep greens. The aurora borealis. The northern lights! Further proving that she is indeed a deity, steeped in power and wisdom. She must be Freya. "It is you, truly." Thorin whispers in awe even as the blond wolf has attached herself to the facade. Finally, the glimpse of the Goddess shines through and Thorin watches Ahroror closely, admiration pooling in his eyes. He doesn't doubt her words for one second and his hand comes to his chest in oath. "Nothing will happen to your bear, Freya. And I will not speak of this to anybody." Perhaps his brothers. "But, I will ensure your bear is guarded with my life. All of our lives! For the bear is what you ride into your great battles, I assume. Oh, you are amazing." he sighs out in pure adoration. "I give my life to you, as well."
She's never been so confused in her life. Rory blinking rapidly at the other wolf, and how this whole interaction makes her feel as if she's on a wild trip that's heading south and quickly. "I...um...Aurora?" she sputters at the request for her real name, panicking in case that answer is also wrong because it's the only name she has. "Aurora Hayes?" she adds, hopeful it will be enough to stop the conversation. Her head starts shaking adamantly while her gaze remains fixed on him. "No, I've never heard anything like that. At all. Ever." she vows, clutching onto the hope she will say something that works. "I think there's been some kind of mistake because I'm just..." her words cut off because then...the mention of Athena makes Rory perk up but with more panic. She's seen the furs they all wear, and a horrified expression moves over her features when she thinks about what they might do.
Slowly, Rory's eyes scan to see how many people are in the supply depot, licking her lips nervously as she considers what needs to happen in order to save Athena from becoming a rug. She straightens her spine, eyes sweeping back to the Visser wolf and she gradually adopts a persona that she's read so many times over. Dreamed of being able to move through life with the same grace and confidence. He thinks she's a God so. "If..." she twitches her brow as she fixes her expression sharply, lowering her voice to a private whisper. "Anything happens to my bear, I will...smite you. All of you. Every last one." she hopes her thumping heart reads as anger and not her confused fear. "Do you understand me?"
#thorininteracts#replies: thorin and rory#I mean it couldn't have worked out better with her name LOL

Thorin has to respect her dedication to the disguise, if he didn't know she was a Goddess among men then he would think she was nothing more than a nervous wolf. And, he has to respect her very presence too. Thorin keeping a fair distance between the two of them, his head tilting at her confusing replies. "Ro...Ror...how do you...no, I mean your real name. The one Odin will call you. Are you one of his daughters we have not learned about?" he's unsure what to do in the presence of such power, and Thorin suddenly drops to one knee his hands precariously offering out towards one of hers. "Is that a riddle!?" he gasps at her response for his lesson, Thorin obsessed with the idea of consequences ever since Skoll's warning. "Did you hear me say I am like a God? Because I did not mean it." he hushes. "I...saw you with the bear." he whispers even quieter, taking her hand into one of his as the other gestures in the direction of the forest. "I will not tell anybody that you are here. I promise. It is only Skoll and I that know. And we would never betray that secret."
"Jesus! Fucking shit balls!" Rory exclaims out as she removes a crate, only to reveal a literal Viking staring at her. She's leapt away, the supplies in her hand launching into the air as she grabs her chest now her heart is ready to fly out from her chest. "Dude! That's..." Wait, what did he just say? As she catches her breath, Rory squints at him. "Secret?" She doesn't have a secret...does she? Snowball!? Oh shit, is it not allowed to have a pet? But, Buster? Maybe just rabbits are banned? "I...what? The...it's just for a short time." she thinks on her feet, just incase bunny's are a no go. She feels sick, and the rest of his words only confuse her all the more with her panic. Which one are you? What!? "I...Um...I'm Rory? Lesson!? Like uh...always look both ways before you cross a street?"
