starter: the deep ( @fxckingcherry )
Vought was huge and Ryan had only been there a few times but after what happened he was lost again. Seeing one of the Seven, he knew they’d help. “Hey!,” he called out, “I’m looking for the boardroom for the Seven. Can you help me out?”

The Deep scoffed. Right now, he wasn’t the Deep. He was dressed as his normal self but the one side he couldn’t return to. “Why would any supe want a different life?” He actually sounded offended when he replied. To Kevin, Lubbock was just a city he had outgrown. His high school friends had all peaked and his father was nothing more than a washed up joke. Kevin had tried reaching out to his dad when the news broke but as he went to dial, he remembered he never kept his own father’s number. “Honestly being a supe, they have it made. They live in the best city in the world with everyone falling over themselves to be around them.”

Richard shook his head in disagreement, looking back up at the TV, where citizens were being interviews. Some were confused, some angry, some supportive. “Being a supe itself isn’t the issue. Vought is. They take advantage of people.” His voice was a little bitter, remembering how Vought had approached him when he was nineteen. “And honestly, being a supe and working for Vought seems lonely, among other things.” He’d been told that his son would leave him behind or not have time for anything else other than superhero work if he got into the Seven, and that in itself told him working for Vought was not a fulfilling life.

The Deep didn’t see Vought like that. He saw them as a way out of a dull life, one he’d be condemned to live if he had stayed with his father and in Texas. “It’s not just Vought,” He scoffed. “Everyone who gets close to a supe wants something. They either want the money, the fame or the interviews that’ll come when they’re tossed aside.” Everyone he had met wanted something from him. From the big CEO’s of companies who wanted his face to sell something to the press begging him for an exclusive. The Church seemed different. They wanted to help him and all he had to do was sign over his accounts. It was a small price to pay to get back on top. “I’ve heard it can be.” The Deep had lived through his loneliness of times at Vought but it was worth it in the end. Plus, he was lonely now so there was no real difference.

As the other spoke, Richard ordered another drink from the bartender. “Isn’t that just the price of fame, though? That’s not exclusive to supes. Actors, Actresses, Singers, Athletes, Politicians, heck, even lottery winners, that can apply to anybody with even just a smidge of popularity. Not even the ‘drugged up celebrities’ thing is unique to supes, that’s been happening long before supes were even a concept.” He replied with a light shrug. To him, the only difference between normal celebrities and supes were the powers. They were still human to him, even if some of them liked to think themselves better than the average population.
