Mathias was starting to think that taking the high road was really meant for people who were capable of sympathy. Whether people forgave him or not didn’t weigh heavily on him, he just assumed that at some point everyone would hate him and he had to live with it. But if a greater man thought he was better than whatever he was, then he ought to try right?
Picking a public place was often what people did to make others feel safe. He couldn’t pull out a knife or gun while the table next to him sipped on coffee and ate scones. It annoyed him. Mathias sat back, his fingers smoothing over the paper cup that held his drink. He was probably looking worse for wear. Between the run ins he had, which earned him a new scar across his neck and scratches on his face, and the fight with Jude that left him with a bruised rib and a split lip. Mathias looked torn up. There were also the bruises on his neck, small and peppered everywhere, that he had to hide by pulling up the hood of his jacket.
All this effort to make an appearance for one person. He leaned back in his chair as Asa approached, and Mathias gave a lazy wave.
“Took you long enough”.

Mathias didn't look Asa in the eyes. His body twitched and trembled like his breath. Mathias could feel it deep within him, something was horribly wrong. He could go back home and hope it would pass, or he could leave and disappear for a few days or weeks. He didn't know how long it would take for him to right himself, but it was what he needed to do.
He had to stop himself from clawing at his own skin. He wanted to draw blood, his own blood. Memories of a time where he tried to end it came back. It was unsuccessful. The nurses and doctors restrained him for a week. He couldn't do it now, his fate was sealed.
Sounds were drowned out by the voices, all of them collectively crying and screaming at him. He didn't say anything as he went to scoop Pigeon up. Mathias didn't wait around for Asa to get the supplies. His own need to escape outweighed anything else.
He left the apartment in a hurry, slipping out the door and closing it behind him. The world began to distort into something he wasn't familiar with. Mathias wanted to scream. He ran instead, his cat held tightly against his chest.
He's already started to slacken his fingers against him when he hears the threat. Asa doesn't fully believe that he'd kill his father - but he releases him anyways.
The step backward is torture, releasing the other's distressed frame, coming face to face with him again. His won eyes are red-rimmed, swimming, and the moment his black eyes blink, they spill over.
"Sorry. I'm... sorry." This time it's about the embrace. He should've listened, should've let go sooner. Would that he could have ingested some of the darkness like smoke and halved it for him. And maybe in his desperation, he'd hoped clinging to him would do that.
Instead Asa's fingers dig into his own palms. He hates himself. He hates how weak he is. How he can't figure out a single word to say to make any of this better. And the words said before still eat away at him from the inside out.
He knows Mathias likes to twist the proverbial knife with his words, since he can't do it with a real one. It doesn't mean he doesn't think those things. Doesn't mean it's not how Asa's seen.
"I'll get a bag set up. For Pigeon. Then... y-you can go." His voice is a wobbly mess, a hand settling on his chest that still burns. Wipes at his eyes again, hiccuping as he tries to calm his breathing. It's panic, and exhaustion, and pain.
He walks off to a different cabinet, trying to just keep moving. Don't think about it. Just do it. Grab the plastic bag, get the cans, the treats, check for extra toys... it's all done with his body shaking.

Masterlist Ace
“Who’s gonna tell Jody?” you asked, standing around with Lorraine and Bucky.
“I don’t know,” Bucky sighed.
“Well, someone does. She was his closet friend,” you looked at him.
“I can’t do this,” Lorraine’s eyes watered up.
“I know, I’m so sorry for your loss, Lorraine. If you need any help….” you gave her a sorrowful look.
“Will you plan the funeral?” she asked you.
You knew you couldn’t say no. After everything Asa did for you, you needed to do this for him.
“Of course,” you nodded.
“Will you tell Jody?” Bucky turned to you.
You nodded softly.
“Thank you, dear. I know I can count on you,” her eyes watered once more.
“Of course. I’m sorry,” you wrapped your arms around her before leaving with Bucky.
“Why are you making that face, Ace?” he laughed softly.
“Asa’s gone. I knew I should've stayed with you two, it’s all my fault,” you gave him a look.
“Wasn’t your fault Ace. Mistakes were made. It was Jael’s fault,” he sighed.
“After this wake, I’m going to hunt him down. He’s dead,”
“You sure that’s a good idea?” Bucky crosses his arms.
“Yeah, I can do it,” you shrugged.
“By yourself?” he raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, so?” you gave him a look.
“Look, no offense, Ace, but you're just a kid,” he started.
“I’m not a kid. I’m 21 for crying out loud!” you raised your voice.
“That’s still young. You’re too invested into hunting,”
“I’m fine. You don’t know what you’re saying. Bye,” you pushed past him, getting into your car and driving off.
---
Asa was a well-known hunter in the community, everyone knew about him as everyone knew about you.
It had been years since you last saw Sam, Dean, and Jason, or talked to them.
You’ve been going around hotel to hotel, hunt to hunt, finding any hunter that needed help. It took your mind off of everything. You didn’t care about people knowing that you were a girl, or how you looked. The only thing that you kept, was who your family was and your name. People told stories about Sam and Dean, while you just stayed quiet.
You dialed Jody’s number, getting ready to tell her about Asa. You met her many times, she was a nice person, but you didn’t know too much. You know she had two adopted daughters, both a few years younger than you, and you knew she was sheriff of Sioux Falls.
“Hey, kid. What’s up?” she picked up the phone with a cheerful voice. You felt your feelings drop, hearing how happy she sounded, and you were gonna ruin it.
“H-Hey, Jody. What’s going on?” you sniffled, taking a deep breath.
“Just have some friends over. We’re watching a movie. How was the hunt with Asa and Bucky?” she asked.
You paused, taking a deep breath.
“T-The demon…..” you started.
“The demon killed Asa,” you said softly.
You could hear her shallow breathing as your heart broke.
“Uhm, t-the wake’s today, and we’re cremating his body tomorrow. Lorraine wanted to get him out as soon as she can,” you explained.
“O-Oh,” she stuttered.
“I’m so, so sorry for your loss, Jody. I wish I could’ve saved him,” you started.
“No, no, kid. It’s not your fault. I-I’ll, uh, I’ll be there as soon as I can,” she sniffled.
“Okay,” you said softly.
“Okay,” she hung up the call.
You groaned to yourself, wiping your face, getting ready to go to Lorraine’s house.
---
“Quiet down!” you yelled for what seemed like the 100th time.
Hunters were loud. Drunk hunters were louder.
You sighed, grabbing a beer.
“You Ace?” you heard a man from behind you ask.
You turned to see him talking to Bucky.
“Nope,” he shook his head.
“I don’t get it, I’ve asked every hunter here, none of them are Ace,” the man sighed.
“Well, you didn’t ask me. Nice to meet you,” you gave a sarcastic smile.
“You?” he asked in disbelief.
“Do you have a problem with that?” you raised an eyebrow.
“Just…. not what I was expecting,” he replied.
“Now, I have a question for you. Did you ask every hunter here, or did you ask every man here?” you pushed off the table, crossing your arms as he went silent.
“Didn't think a woman could be the fiercest hunter here? Do you have a problem with women?” you walked near him, watching him tense up.
You saw Bucky hold in a laugh from the corner of your eye.
“N-No, no ma’am,” he stuttered.
“That’s what I thought,” you scoffed.
“M-May I just say it’s an honor to meet you. I’ve heard the stories about you, all the great things you’ve done,” he started.
Stories?
You knew that hunters knew you, but you didn't know they told stories.
“Oh, uh, thanks…. I think?” you hesitated briefly.
“So, how did you start hunting?” he asked you.
“My mom was a hunter, and when she died I felt like I had to take on her legacy,” you explained.
“What about any other family? Like your dad? Any siblings?” he bombarded you with questions.
“Dead. My dad died when I was a kid, and my brother died some time ago,” you lied.
“Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss,” he gave you a sad look.
“Well, it's been a while, and I’m okay,” you shrugged.
You gave a small smile, finding your way to find Lorraine.
---
“No labels, that’s a red sign,” Dean muttered to himself, picking up a beer bottle.
“Nah, it’s good. Homemade,” Bucky smiled.
“I’m Bucky Sims,” Bucky introduced.
“Dean Winchester,” he replied.
“Whoa, the Dean Winchester? As in like dead four times Dean Winchester?” another hunter, named Randy interrupted.
“Yeah, it, uh didn’t stick,” he gave a small smile.
“I mean, Asa was famous, but you’re here, and Ace is here? This is gonna get interesting,” he exhaled.
“Ace is here? I’ve always wanted to meet him,” Dean started.
“Uh, she,” Bucky corrected.
“Oh, really? Good for her,” Dean said, opening his beer.
---
“Oh, hey Alicia, Max,” you greeted the twins, standing in front of them.
“Hey, Ace, this is Sam,” she introduced you to the man standing in front of them.
He turned to you, as you felt shivers go down your spine.
Sam
“Oh my god,” you gasped.
“What the!?” he jumped up, looking at you in shock.
“I-It’s nice t-to meet you,” you stuttered, walking back.
Holy shit, oh my god
You panicked, walking to the back room.
“(Y/N),” you heard Dean call your name.
It’s been years since anyone called you by your name.
“Please, go away,” you said, walking into a room, with Sam and Dean entering with you.
“(Y/N), please, just talk to us,” Dean said.
“Shut up. Leave me alone, please,” you begged.
“You’re Ace? You’re freaking Ace?!” Dean raised his voice.
“So what if I am?!” you yelled at them.
“No, Ace was around before you left,” Sam remembered.
“I was Ace then, and I’m Ace now,” you said shakily.
“What the hell?!” Dean yelled.
“Just stop! Both of you!” you yelled.
“(Y/N), just listen,” Sam started.
“No! You have nothing to say to me, Sam. Do you think I-I forgot what the last thing you said to me was?!” you yelled.
“That wasn’t me, I swear. Look, when we were at the hospital, we were all waiting, i-in the waiting room. They weren’t letting us go in. We saw a shifter leaving your room, and then you were gone,” Sam’s eyes watered.
You went quiet.
“Where’s my brother?” you asked softly.
They both gave each other a look.
“Where is he?” you raised your voice.
“He’s gone,” Dean answered.
You felt your heart drop.
“W-What… what do you mean?” you stuttered. You knew, but you couldn’t. He couldn’t be gone.
“He’s dead, (Y/N)!” Dean yelled.
You jumped slightly, as your eyes watered.
Sam elbowed Dean, motioning to him to calm down.
“(Y/N),” Sam started.
“I’m sorry-” he continued.
“Please, j-just don’t. God, everything was okay before you came here,” you sighed.
“Okay? You call that okay? We looked for you, for so long! We thought you died, (Y/N)! You disappeared!” Dean yelled.
“Y-You think I was gonna stay there, with you?” you spat.
“We were gonna fix things,” Dean started.
“There was no fixing things! I told you that I-I hated you! And I still do! Do you think I-I wanted to fix things after everything that I said? I was in pain, Dean, and you made it worse. I bet you still don’t know where I was going that day,” you shook your head.
“Maybe I don’t, okay, but we’re family. We’re supposed to hate each other, and we’re supposed to fix things,” he said softly.
“What makes you think I want to? Look, out there, with all the hunters, I’m Ace. (Y/N) doesn’t exist. You two don’t know me. You can stay for Asa’s wake, but after this, I never, ever want to see you again,” you said shakily.
“That’s not your decision to make,” Dean said, as you started walking out of the room.
“It’s not yours either. You were the worst father. I’d be shocked if you even knew how old I am,” you scoffed, about to leave.
“You’re (Y/N) Winchester, born on April 20th, 1995. You’re 21 years old, your favorite color is blue, your favorite book is ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. You wanted to go to Yale, and you’re my daughter. And I love you, so much. And I’m so sorry that I didn’t show it.”
You froze, your hand on the doorknob, as your tears fell to the floor.
“I spent years looking for you because you’re my kid, you’re my family, and you mean the world to me,” Dean walked next to you, putting his hand on yours, slowly taking it off the door.
“You’re smart, you’re fierce, you’re brave, you’re kind, you’re beautiful. And you’re too good for our family,” he turned you to face him.
“Family’s overrated anyways,” you sniffled, closing the door behind you.

As we’ve done with past events, we are going to be doing mandatory threads for the Getaway as well! We kept the randomized roommates as partners and randomized the partners for ships. Below you will find the pairings for each of your characters.
The guidelines for the thread are as follows:
Doing each thread is mandatory for each character.
Pairs are required to begin their thread and reach the minimum number of replies between Sunday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 30th, but we encourage continuing the threads after the trip and building a new long term connection! That’s the whole reason we do this.
Gif chats and texts are the preferred methods for the thread. But paras or f2fs are allowed too if you and your partner like those more. That’s completely up to you, just make sure you talk about it before you start it.
Each thread should have a minimum of 5 replies (9 notes) by the end of the trip on June 30th. That means you should at least give 5 replies and receive at least 5 replies from your partner.
Whoever starts the thread needs to tag the main so that we can keep track of each thread. If you opt to do a text thread, please IM the main the link to the post.
Please make sure that if you start the thread, you let your partner know it’s posted via IM. While we encourage tagging your partner in the thread if possible, these sometimes get lost in activity or don’t show up at all, so it’s best to make sure you have let them know directly that the thread is posted. If your partner is not being responsive or cooperative in doing the thread, please reach out to us on the main and let us know. We will do our best to resolve the situation, and you will not be at fault for not completing the task.
Anyone who does not complete the task by starting the thread and doing 5 replies each by the end of the trip will be given a strike.
As stated with the post about the roommates, this list could change at any time as we add or lose members, so please remember to continuously check back to this post to make sure your pairings have not changed. If you have any questions at all about the mandatory thread or the trip in general, please do not hesitate to reach out!
And please like this post once you’ve read it to show us you are aware of the task.

At first, Scarlett only tilted her head at him. Then she laughed. A real laugh, a sound that she herself, even, hadn't heard in quite sometime. She wasn't sure what it was about his words that struck her as so funny, but the idea of it, walking around with a cologne of gasoline of all things was so strange it had caught her off-guard.
"Out of the choices, I would prefer the mothballs," she spoke after her chuckles had dissipated, giving it deeper thought than necessary, "but I assure you none of those had crossed my mind. I would assume clean laundry instead, or... woodsy, with touches of lavender and freshly cut grass. A calm, welcoming scent."
The conversation doesn't feel odd - because it seems like the typical conversation one would have with another spirit in a spot like this. It almost feels like they're just two ghouls in a gap between dimensions. Purgatory, maybe - because only purgatory would have a mall food court with shiny, plasticky tables and chairs all in primary colors. Designs on the walls and tiles that don't represent anything - just vague shapes to elicit a 'vibe' that no longer exists. Probably not anywhere, but definitely not here.
"Do I? What kind of aura does someone need to have, to seem as if they smell lovely?" Asa is asking in pure curiosity - a small smile, a lean into one hand. "And... what do you consider a lovely smell? I'd hate to find out I have an aura that makes you think I smell like... gasoline. Or... hm... laundry lint. Mothballs."

POTENTIAL CONNECTIONS FOR ASA HOLLAND
Need to know more about Asa first? Read his FULL BIO here!
Below are connection ideas for Asa- I’d love to find characters to fill some of these!! Message me, reply to this post- whatever you like! And if you have a connection idea that’s not listed, let me know! I’d love to hear it!!
*** Trigger warning! Some of these connections are related to alcohol, homophobia, and some mention past abuse! ***
PLATONIC / FRIENDLY
Penpals: Asa had penpals while he was in and out of various ‘troubled teen homes’ and then later, psychiatric centers. He still lived in Ireland and then London for a bit while he was living in some of them in his early to late 20s. I would love to have a few penpals, maybe even one who helped him decide to move to Salem all these years later. Someone he can now be close friends with, who he would send little drawings back then.
Confused in Salem: Asa moved to Salem about 4 years ago, and knew nothing about it beyond the obvious touristy stuff one would pick up from doing a google search. Asa ran into this person while lost on his first day, exhausted from moving, alone and confused. They helped him find a few buildings he was looking for, and they both ended up getting dinner. Now they’ve stayed friends, texting occasionally, and they encourage Asa not to hole himself up in his house all the time.
Cat Catcher: Asa’s cat Ruthie got loose. This person found her in a busy area of downtown Salem, read her little nametag, and texted Asa. He was out of town and begged the nice person to hold onto her until he got back. He’s been trying to do nice things for this person ever since, offering to buy them drinks or coffee or dinner.
Book Buddies / Clients: Asa illustrates for middlegrade fiction and childrens’ books! Anyone in the editing or publishing or writing world could be a coworker or cohort for Asa. Clients he’s done graphic design work for would work too!
FAMILIAL
Sisters: Asa has 2 younger sisters who he hasn’t spoken to since he was maybe 14. He is very estranged from them- after being sent away to the ‘troubled teen’ institute, he was in and out and then kicked out of his own home the second he was old enough to not be considered his parents’ problem any more. He has a lot of trauma associated with any of his family, but having one of his sisters who was a baby at the time find out about him would be a great storyline. Could be from a previous marriage, just has to be younger than him by at least 10 years.
ROMANTIC / SEXUAL
Not The Time: Someone Asa dated back in London in his early 30s, but he wasn’t ready to be in a relationship. With so much going on from the trauma he had experienced, he needed to go to therapy and figure out his own feelings. It was a relationship that ended on good terms, but Asa feels so much shame and guilt for ending it at all.
Another Lonely Night: The first week or so of moving to Salem (about 4 years ago), Asa explored the city and went to multiple bars, restaurants, clubs. He met a nice man and they had a passionate night. Asa invited him back to his home while everything was still in boxes. Maybe they kept sleeping together a few more times, maybe it was a one-time thing. But Asa tried to keep it casual, assuming that the other wouldn’t be interested in anything else with him.
Breakdown: Asa’s long-term issues from his past came to a head when he brought this man back to his house after meeting on a dating app. Things were going so well... until Asa had an unexpected seizure right before they started to do anything. The poor man had to call an ambulance and Asa was so embarrassed about ruining a potentially wonderful night that he’s only sent one text to apologize and has been too terrified to reach out for a rain-check date.

Can I Be Him? ( T. Holland )
Warning: Sad and the feels.
Inspired by James Arthur's song Can I Be Him? Sorry the song is too beautiful sorry.
Tom sat on his couch as he skimmed through his instagram. He was just randomly liking pictures as chilled on his sofa. He continued this until he came across a photo.
It was a photo of you, hugging Asa Butterfield. Pain struck the boy's chest. He looked at the caption.
@asabopp: what's your favorite thing about her, mine? @yourusername😍😍💜💜
Its been a year after his break up from you. He had started to develope feelings for Zendaya but after breaking up with you he realize that it was just a crush. He could still remember how it happened. . .
" Tom. . . You don't mean that. " you sobbed as his back faced you. You caught Tom kissing Zendaya at the set. You talked to him about it and you wanted to believe that it was just an accident.
" I'm sorry Y/n. I don't think we'll work out anymore. " he reasoned out as he felt really bad. He felt you hug him from behind. You held on to him but his hands began to remove your arms around him. This sudden move stabbed you a million times as you cried out.
" No Please. . Tom No. . . " you begged as he completely slipped out of your grasp. You grabbed his shirt but your body felt so weak as your grip didn't last and he was released as you watch him walk out the door.
You went back to London until you were called by a certain company to star in one movie. The Space Between Us.
You were the love Interest of the main character. The character of your role felt so real that you embraced the role. Asa, your costar and the main character of the movie became a close friend of yours until he finally asked you out. He was a total dork for you. His feeling were true and loyal to you no matter how many actresses the he kissed and met in his movies. You loved him dearly.
Tom pressed the comment box.
Your comment was the first thing he saw.
@yourusername: What is my favorite thing on Earth? Simple. @asabopp. 😘💚💚💚 Happy 6 Monthsary Love!! I hope you loved Paris.
Then he saw the reply.
@asabopp: Of course I did Love! It was the best!😍😍😘😘👫💏💕
He could feel the twinge of pain as he exited the comment box and continued to scroll down until he came to a video and its thumbnail was you. The video played automatically.
You smiled at the camera as you were walking. You turned the camera to the front and it showed Asa's back and you lowered the camera as it showed Asa's hand clasped on yours tightly. The video then jumped into a full view of the Eiffel Tower as you turned the Camera to you as Asa stood beside you. He had his arms around your waist as his chin rested on your shoulder as you laughed and you both smiled at the camera.
The video stopped as Tom felt something glide down his cheeks. He placed a hand on them and found them wet. He was crying.
He turned his gaze to the table and on it was a photo of you and him. You were hugging him and your faces were close to each other and a wide smile was plastered on both of you faces.
The photo was enough for his eyes let out a waterfalls of sad tears.
" can I be him? " he whispered as he rested his head on his hands.

Location: Asa's Apartment
Mathias decided to take Asa up on his offer to teach him to paint. It wasn't the activity he thought they were going to do initially, Mathias thought that murder would come before painting. But spending time with someone was better than nothing.
He was feeling a sort of high too. The events of the week left him in a good mood, so Mathias was happier than usual. He knocked on Asa's door, his bag over his shoulder with all the things he thought he needed. Mathias waited for Asa to answer the door before greeting him.
"Hello. I got us sandwiches".

"Mhm" Mathias hummed. He had thought he was listening. Asa gave him advice, and Mathias took it. It may not have been exactly what Asa meant, but it was close enough at the end of the day. He had met someone, someone he could see himself liking, and he wanted to pursue it. Yes, his methods would be intense, but that was who Mathias was.
He stared down at the puzzle then nodded, "Sure, if you want". He sat on the floor and dumped the pieces out then began picking out all the corner pieces.
He had been raised Jewish, but didn't practice. Even with Lee it never really came up. Mathias just saw it as something people did when they were lost. He was not lost, he never was. There wasn't a church or a god that could give him the guidance he needed.
That stifling intensity seems to have dissipated a bit, and that helps put Asa more at ease. He's happy to hear it did matter, even if it seems maybe it didn't make the sense Asa had thought it did.
But then he shakes his head. "Darling, I don't want you to do anything besides... continue this discussion with me over time, and be willing to listen. You don't have to follow my advice, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do."
In reality, Asa is no therapist. No relationship counselor. Hell, he's still figuring out his own 'relationship' - still not even sure if he's allowed to call it that. But he also knows Matty won't be going to a therapist any time soon.
Asa looks at the puzzle, still sitting in the box on the table. "Can I tell you about my experience? With my own church, growing up?" He asks, voice a bit worn. It's not something he likes to talk about - but maybe he can shed some light on why unconditional love coming from a priest sits a bit oddly in Asa's stomach. "Maybe while we work on this puzzle?" Asa shrugs with a tired smile.

Tracy Bunge
The Legend of Tracy Bunge Kansas softball is set to retire the jersey of a legend. Tracy Bunge, a 1986 KU graduate, First Team All-American and Kansas Athletics women’s sports icon, will further cement her Crimson and Blue legacy this Saturday, April 7, by becoming the fourth softball player to have her jersey retired. Bunge, 54, has already been inducted to both the KU Athletics Hall of Fame and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and has explored nearly every corner of the game, both as a player (1983-86) and coach (1987-2009).
While Bunge’s playing days are well gone, the memories, relationships, multiple records, trophies and photos remain. When looking at photos of Bunge pitching, it isn’t difficult to imagine what was going through batters’ minds, then standing just 40 feet from the pitching rubber. Snapshots of Bunge’s remarkable playing career, mostly in black and white, capture her puffed cheeks, determined brow and flexed arm, hurling a blurred softball at the batter, a batter that more likely than not, whiffed. While action shots like these leave little question about Bunge’s intimidating mound presence or ability to rock 1980s hairstyles, they are greatly supplemented by thumbing through the Kansas record books.
As one of the most-decorated Kansas softball pitchers of all time, Bunge sits tied for first in career earned run average (ERA) (0.68) and alone as Kansas’ single-season ERA record holder, boasting an exemplary single-season ERA of 0.55. Bunge was selected as a member of the All-Big Eight Conference Team following her sophomore through senior seasons, earned NCAA All-Region First Team honors three times and was selected as an NCAA First-Team All-American in her senior season, 1986. Bunge practically owns the Kansas softball record books. She is second in career shutouts (44), third in career victories (78) and second in career runs scored (123). In addition, Bunge’s jaw-dropping ERA and individual dominance helped her Jayhawk teams to three NCAA Regional appearances.
When the day comes and Bunge’s jersey is immortalized at Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park, she will be the first to credit her teammates and coaches from the “good-old days.” In a sport where individual statistics shine and a sole pitcher’s performance can dominate a game, or entire season, Bunge recognizes those who were always there to back up their ace.
“When I look at that kind of award, I know it’s a team award in a way,” Bunge said. “I had a great coach and great teammates and all of that led to my success as an individual. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Filing through her extensive softball memories and life’s work, Bunge narrowed in on a run at the Big Eight Championship and playing in big-time games in the NCAA Tournament as the major highlights from her playing career. While any athlete strives to compete and win at their game’s highest level and on the greatest stage, Bunge most fondly reflects on the relationships she created with teammates and coaches in years of playing and coaching the game she loves.
During Bunge’s senior season in 1986, a tearful conversation with her pitching coach, Gary Hines, proved the power of these relationships, forged by the game. Kansas’ All-American pitcher was approaching one of life’s crossroads: graduation. For Bunge, 1986 graduation meant the end of four incredible years, the finish of a magnificent Kansas softball career, teammates moving across the country, leaving the university and town she learned to love and earning a business degree, a degree she had no interest in using. Bunge approached Hines with concerns about what was to come next in her life. She talked about her degree and what her parents may have wanted, while he talked about softball and what she wanted.
“It was one of the biggest conversations I ever had with a coach,” Bunge said. “He asked me what I wanted to do, and I said that I think I wanted to coach, and that was the start of everything. A heart-to-heart with my pitching coach at the time was instrumental to me looking inside my heart and determining what I wanted to do with my life.”
Bunge coached. Hines helped his former star transition immediately to the world of coaching, connecting her to an assistant coaching position at Iowa State in 1987. Much like her playing career, Bunge found quick success in coaching and did not slow down. The game that had given her so much, would now be graced by her knowledge, leadership and passion for years to come.
The former Jayhawk departed the Cyclones after five years, with four top-five Big Eight finishes and one NCAA Regional appearance. Bunge then helped lead Yale to an Ivy League Championship in 1993 as an assistant, before accepting her first head coaching position with the University of Ohio in 1994. In three seasons with Ohio, Bunge won a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship, made an NCAA Regional appearance and was named MAC Coach of the Year in 1995. The same year Bunge won coach of the year, came the end of her nine-year career playing softball in the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA, now USA Softball), which included a National Championship in 1994.
Not long after her debut as a head coach and the end of her ASA stint, Bunge found herself right where she started, in Kansas. As Kansas softball’s head coach from 1997 to 2009, Bunge led her alma mater to four NCAA Regionals, one Super Regional and a Big 12 Championship, both in 2008.
Some of Bunge’s coaching career’s greatest memories and successes came while at the helm of the Jayhawks. Much like her playing career, Bunge credits elements of her success to her peers and mentors.
“I think as a player, you take bits and pieces from every coach you have ever been exposed to, like, ‘I can do it that way,’ or ‘That was successful and I like that,’” Bunge said.
Bunge learned from a network of her own former coaches, including her coach at Kansas, Bob Stanclift, who will be in attendance for Bunge’s jersey retirement Saturday.
After over two decades of earned success in college softball, both as a player and coach, Bunge elected to pursue another avenue in which to celebrate the game she has committed most of her life to. Following her head coaching career at Kansas, Bunge was provided arguably the most unique opportunity of her career, a position coaching the Dutch National Team.
“Shortly after I left KU, a friend was on the board of the International Softball Association at the time, and she told me there was an opportunity in Holland,” Bunge said. “Four days later, I was on a plane.”
Bunge, an All-American, Coach of the Year, Ivy League, MAC and Big 12 Champion, was now the pitching coach for the Dutch National Softball Team. Bunge is frequently asked if she is Dutch, where she simply replies, “No.” This may be a response in place of a longer answer about how softball has created opportunities across the world and back for Bunge, or something about her knowledge and love of the game being sought out by coaches, organizations and players alike to grow the sport around the world and develop talent.
Bunge went on to lead the Dutch National Team as an assistant for five years and as a head coach for one. During this time, Bunge added countless stamps to her passport, as well as three World Championship appearances and a European Championship to her expansive softball resume in 2011. Once back stateside, Bunge coached briefly in the National Pro Fastpitch league, for the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
It was a fateful conversation with then-Jayhawk assistant coach, Gary Hines, in 1986 that vaulted Bunge into this extensive run in coaching of more than two decades and the rest of her life with softball. Bunge recalls this transitional period in her life with great pride, remembering the guts it took to pursue her passion, in spite of little pay and questions of what’s to come for her favorite game beyond college.
Bunge’s wide range of success in both playing and coaching softball can be attributed to many things: great coaching, support from her friends and family, her athletic gifts and hours of hard work. However, Bunge’s impressive career may be best attributed to perfect timing.
In 1983, when Bunge started her playing career at the University of Kansas as a freshman, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) was in its first year sponsoring college softball. The soon-to-be Jayhawk star and the game of softball shared an NCAA debut season, providing the Bartlesville, Oklahoma, native a unique opportunity to grow in the sport she loved during a critical time in shaping the future of college softball.
“It’s an honor to be a part of that history, but there wasn’t a lot for women’s sports at the time. Money was tight, we didn’t play on campus, there was no field on campus, so we played at Holcomb Park,” Bunge said.
Bunge recalled long drives to away games, in which the coaches drove the entire team, packed in only two vans, because that was all the budget would allow. Crammed hotel rooms, not-so-great eating habits, limited equipment and coaches doubling as grounds crew members rounded out some of the challenges of early NCAA softball, as she remembered.
Little by little, things changed for Bunge and Kansas softball. The players received more gear from the athletics department and eventually were outfitted by a Kansas’ sportswear contract. Facilities slowly improved thanks to Allen Fieldhouse bleacher donations and a move to a space on campus.
“The things we got from the athletics department were treasured items; the sweatshirts, sweatpants, practice gear. We were so appreciative because women didn’t get very much back in the day, so what you did get, you were very appreciative of,” Bunge said.
On the forefront of Kansas softball’s developmental years, as both a player and coach, Bunge watched her game change, while at the same time, developing as a player. While Bunge soaked up coaching knowledge and continuously worked to drop her ERA, college softball was beginning to provide opportunities for young women, the equipment was improving and the sport was generating more and more support.
Listening to Bunge recount her experience as one of the most-influential female athletes in KU history, she is proud of how far women’s athletics and the game of softball have come.
“It’s been really exciting to watch the growth of the sport over the last 30-to-40 years and to be a part of that in some way,” Bunge said. “It’s just exciting to see the support that is now in place for women’s athletics. We still aren’t on equal footing in some ways, but it sure has come a long way.”
A long way is right. Today, Bunge is continuing to deepen her connection with softball by fostering more of the relationships, forged by the sport, to which she credits much of her success and her most memorable moments. The legendary player, turned instructor, is now coaching private lessons in Lawrence for players between the ages of 10 and 18 years old. To supplement her small-scale, individual coaching efforts, Bunge is currently set to travel to Europe this fall to coach at the European Softball Association’s developmental clinic. In her international endeavors, Bunge describes her role as two-fold, to help develop players around the world, as well as coaches.
On Saturday, April 7, 2018, when Bunge’s jersey is retired at Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park, two seats will be occupied by Bunge’s greatest supporters, her parents, Barbara and Al Bunge.
“My parents sacrificed a lot to put me and my sister through the sporting programs that we did, plus the emotional support and everything that goes into it. You know, my parents were with me every step of the way,” Bunge said.
Many in attendance Saturday will leave their seats, giving Bunge a standing ovation, and she will likely wave to the crowd with a hand that has left its print on the game in so many areas. A hand that seemingly grasped the hand of the game of softball, for a walk through life, from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Lawrence, Kansas, across the world and back. At some points, Bunge led, showing softball a brilliant mind and exceptional ability. She developed some of the game’s best talents and paved the way for young women preparing for a college degree, a championship game or a lifelong opportunity.
When softball led, Bunge was provided a career, the triumphant joy of a win or sinking feeling of a crushing defeat. Softball has taken Bunge around the world, to some of the game’s biggest stages. It has also taken her to a knee, eye-to-eye with the game’s youth, in individual lessons.
Tracy Bunge’s personal journey with softball will one day come to a close. What will endure is her massive reach; how she touched of the lives of so many in softball, the relationships she has fostered throughout the years, the young women she has inspired, many of the records she has broken and of course, her Kansas softball jersey.
Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk.

87: Platelet transfusions may cause harm in ICH, why alteplase contraindications got changed, and a resource for learning how to recognize ECG rhythms
Within this occurrence I’ll:
1. Examine articles about utilizing platelet infusions to deal with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) from antiplatelet medicines. 2. Reply the medication info query “Why were the contraindications to alteplase for severe ischemic stroke transformed?” 3. Reveal a source I used-to learn to recognize rhythms. Register on iTunes, Android, or Stitcher
Post
Platelet transfusion versus regular treatment after severe stroke because of natural cerebral haemorrhage related to antiplatelet treatment (AREA): a randomised, available-tag, phase3 test
Guide writer: MICHAEL Irem Baharoglu Posted within the log Lancet Might 2016 via online first entry
History
A 2013 post figured providing platelet transfusions to sufferers on antiplatelet medicines who encounter ICH didn’t enhance results.
For managing ICH in-patients on antiplatelet medicines nevertheless transfusion has nonetheless been commonly used. This article’s writers wanted to research whether transfusion plus treatment that was regular, when compared with regular care decreased reliance or demise after hemorrhage related to antiplatelet medicine use.
Techniques
The test was a multicenter, available- label – randomized analysis at 60 hospitals within France and the Holland.
The collaborators enrolled people within 6 hrs of supratentorial intracerebral hemorrhage sign beginning when they had employed antiplatelet treatment for atleast seven days beforehand and experienced a Glasgow Coma Scale rating of atleast 8. The research collaborators arbitrarily designated individuals (1:1; stratified by clinic and kind of antiplatelet treatment) to get both regular treatment or regular treatment with platelet transfusion within 90 moments of analytical brain-imaging.
Individuals and nearby detectives providing treatments weren’t disguised to therapy percentage, but allocation was hidden from detectives and result assessors examining information.
The main result was reliance or death, ranked about the altered Rankin Size at a few months.
Outcomes
Between March 8, 2015, and February 4, 2009, 190 individuals were enrolled by 41 websites. 97 individuals were arbitrarily given to platelet transfusion to treatment that was regular.
The chances of death or reliance at a few months were greater within the platelet transfusion team than within the regular treatment team (modified typical odds ratio 2.05, 95PERCENT CI 1.18–3.56; p=0.0114). As did, 42% of individuals who received transfusion had a significant adverse-event throughout their clinic remain. 17% designated to regular treatment and participants designated to platelet transfusion perished during stay.
Summary
The experts figured:
Transfusion appears substandard to regular take care of people getting antiplatelet therapy. Transfusion CAn’t be suggested for this indicator in medical training.
Dialogue
The research had a sample-size that is fairly little, and registration was really sluggish with sites. The research is the greatest available proof to answer fully the question of whether transfusions should be received by individuals with ICH after medicine use.
Medication info query
Were the contraindications? A: Attorneys.
In January 2015, the alteplase prescribing info (PI) experienced a revolutionary change within the contraindication area. Several contraindications which were centered on “common sense” and test exemption requirements were eliminated.
You might think that’s false, although that this change was centered on some fresh proof concerning the drug’s security. The change was created included in a program update towards the PI to make sure that the info is in line with the Doctor Labeling Principle instituted in 2006.
The Doctor Labeling Principle supplies a standard structure using the objective of supplying obvious and brief PI that’s simpler for health experts to gain access to, study, and use.
The Doctor Labeling Principle definitions of contraindications and alerts and safeguards are as follows:
• Contraindications: A medication ought to be contraindicated only in these medical circumstances that the chance from use obviously exceeds any feasible therapeutic advantage. Not options, Only recognized risks, can be the basis. • Alerts and safeguards: The alerts and precautions section is supposed to recognize and explain a distinct set of side effects along with other possible security hazards that are severe or are normally scientifically significant because they’ve ramifications for recommending decisions or for individual administration. For a bad event to be included within the area, there must be sensible evidence of a connection between your the adverse and medication occasion, but a connection do not need to have been definitively proven.
The AHA/ASA acknowledged the change towards the prescribing information was not produced in the framework of fresh medical info, plus they have printed a record entitled: Medical Reason for that Addition and Exclusion Requirements for Intravenous Alteplase in Acute Ischemic Stroke. The AHA/ASA seems that physicians must make use of the technology for the reason that doc, with their swing administration recommendations for administration choices and swing therapy.

The web site SkillSTAT includes an excellent online ECG simulation & instruction app. I described in extremely shortly in occurrence 10 after I mentioned the way the Pharmacist and also the ECG ought to be buddies.
The application is known as “The Six-Second ECG”. It may be used to rapidly learn how to determine 27 of the rhythms that were very typical. The application completely describes each ECG beat and shows. App that is The includes a “gamified” problem style where the consumer efforts to properly determine 10 rhythms within the period of 60 seconds.

Parties like this were starting to become a reoccurring thing for Mathias. There wasn't a world where he would have any actually business attending an event with such important people.
Mingling wasn't his favorite thing to do, but Mathias found himself doing it more and more lately. Perhaps it was because he was getting used to socializing, or he was just being placed in situations that required it more. He did his best though.
As he was taking a break from talking with people, Mathias spotted a familiar face in the crowd. He had noticed that Asa had been gone for a while, although he didn't know why (he didn't really look into it). He went up to Asa and bumped his shoulder against him.
"Hello Asa. Where did you go?"
