i really don’t think it’s “typical dragon age fandom nonsense” for people to be genuinely upset about the world state choices. combat, level design, art direction, gameplay gimmicks, those have all varied across each dragon age game. the one thing that’s remained constant are nods to our previous choices.
i wasn’t expecting my HoF to come riding in on a griffon, but i can’t find a monument dedicated to warden tabris somewhere around the anderfels? lucanis couldn’t have some lines about the time that one arainai boy was stirring up trouble in antiva city? you’re gonna tell me that making a mage the new divine wouldn’t have some impact on nevarra and antiva? on the anderfels, the supposed most devout militant andrastian nation in thedas? you’re saying nobody in the north is paying attention to who rules orlais or ferelden? come on.

Can we take a moment to talk about Alexius and Solas?
The parallels and perhaps the foreshadowing In Hushed Whispers gives us is WILD considering what we know of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Once the inquisitor is sent forward in time and finds Solas, there's an dialogue choice to essentially say that you're glad Solas can understand the timey-wimey concepts from Dorian - to which Solas replies:
"You would think such understanding would stop me from making such terrible mistakes. You would be wrong. This world is an abomination. It must never come to pass." Hm, interesting.
Because once we leave the castle interior to where you can see what has become of the breach he says: "The veil is shattered. There is no boundary now between the world and the fade." And is not happy about it. Is this not what u wanted babe?
When comparing Alexius and Solas, this line from Alexius in particular hit hard:
"...all that I fought for, all that I betrayed! What have I wrought?" 👀 It's giving: what pride has wrought.
And at last, given the new cutscenes we've now seen from Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd, the most interesting parallel I found was between the conversation Alexius and Felix have once you go back in time and Solas's conversation with Varric.
Alexius: "You'll die."
Felix: "Everyone dies."
Varric: "People are dying right now! You need to listen! Please!"
Solas: "People are always dying. It is what they do."
I'm not a good analytical writer, but there's something so juicy and depressing to read into those comparisons. Wildly, what Solas has been attempting did come to pass - in some fucked up way mind you - and it wasn't worth it. It destroyed everything good about both realms. Naturally he wouldn't remember a future he didn't live, but damn what wild parallels to see when replaying right now.

Me talking about Inquisition: "Yeah it's definitely a flawed game, the CC is bad, some companions are very underwritten and some plot points are a bit contrived, also the Inquisitor is my least favourite protag"

As I reach hour 100 of replaying Dragon Age: Inquisition, only now do I discover that The Veilguard will in fact not be using imports from Keep.
An unrelated announcement, I will be dedicating my time to furiously tearing down the Veil myself piece by piece with my own bare hands and consuming unconscionable masses of the Fade in an unhinged and unstoppable eating frenzy before Solas can even blink an eye. Thank you for understanding.

Replaying Dragon Age Inquisition in the run up to The Veilguard and I just have to say…
Was past me f**king blind?!?!
Every ✨single✨ word out of Solas’s mouth is so suspicious! How was I ever blindsided by this egg when he betrayed my poor Lavellan. Learn from my mistakes -
It’s always the Apostate girly-pop! 💖🥲
Granted, actual godhood had never been confirmed as people that could physically still exist in Dragon Age before BUT STILL!
Am I gonna romance him again?
Yes. Yes I am.

replayed Inquisition with my "canon" Lavellan since we got the Veilguard trailer and I looooove him so much. (He's living in my head rent free since 2014 and I just wanted to play as him again before autumn, also to lock all the world stats into DA Keep.)
I really should sit down and draw him like the cool kids, but man...
Anyway, for now a screenshot: here is Æthélin Lavellan
Tumblr media
I'll probably post some stuff about him into the abyss that is tumblr, knowing that maybe 1.5 of my mutuals are interested in D.A., but I really want to write about him and paint him.
Guess who he has a big fat gay crush on:

I made my partner watch the dragon age gameplay yesterday. They're a fan but not nearly as dragon age pilled as the rest of us, and it's been a long time since they beat DA:I when it came out (on our shitty tube tv and a PS3). They couldn't read all the tiny lore text on our shitty tube tv and never played Trespasser. They have been replaying it lately but not in any concentrated way and they still haven't played trespasser.
And their first comment was: wait. so this is the same problem as in Inquisition? So we basically failed?
And I was like. Yeah. I mean. Basically. It's a new problem out of the old problem but...
and they were like. ok but basics like. there's a bunch of rifts in the sky and demons coming down. that was what we had to deal with before too, right?
So I was like well, yes, keep watching tho. But also good note, because this intro sequence parallels the Inquisition one in a lot of ways. (Cue pride demon fight).
And we started pointing out all the other similarities. Like. Ok, accidentally stopping Solas' ritual creates a new problem of giant sinister creatures coming out of the fade (which is also how we got saddled with Corypheus, now there's just two of them). The thing where in the opening fight you hear voices talking in the background, and even if you can make out the snippets of what's being said it wasn't until later in the game that you got your memories back and understood the significance. I think that's back. The conversation Varric is having with Solas while you run over to the pillar? "this is beyond your comprehension!" we'll get context on that in a mid-game mission mark my words.
And stopping the ritual didn't exactly fix the sky, either, by the looks of it. So is it just left like that? Does rook have to close rifts and fight demons on top of dealing with domination-hungry ancient gods? (can they close rifts? maybe they steal Solas' dagger as some people have theorized and use that?)
So the next comment from my partner was like: could Inquisition just have been a prologue to this?
And I was like. Well. It IS. But they meant like, could you truncate Inquisition and do it as a shorter actually-prologue-sized prologue to this game, and I think that's maybe the point. There were a lot of complaints about DA:I being too big for its plot. The first open-world in the series, and it was full of repetitive junk quests and decisions that felt ineffective. If you stripped it down to core elements and re-did it in the "tighter" fashion that DA:V claims to be taking, yeah, you could have a pretty tight prologue. Trespasser is this, and absolutely a prologue to Veilguard more than it even is an epilogue to Inquisition.
Anyway the way the intro runs so parallel with Inquisition is obviously on purpose. The way that all of the player feedback seems to have been taken so seriously and incorporated into Vielguard, like a direct response to "we see what you liked about Inquisition and what you didn't so we're trying again with that in mind" is super clear. It's Inquistion 2: You Get To Be Actually Effective This Time.
But the question remains: Could one thing in this fucking world just stay fixed?

Q&A with Spicy
What is your favourite character to romance?
Everyone who knows me knows how I am gonna answer this question xD My favourite character to romance is Fenris, closely followed by Dorian and Josephine. Funnily enough, Dorian was my first Dragon Age romance ever because I started out with Inquisition back then. And while I fell for his charms completely and was taken in for a surprising ride by the stylish Tevinter Altus, Fenris came for my shipping dynamics out of the dark. I enjoy everything about the slow burn and the challenge behind Fenris’s romance, and I love Fenris so much as a character, I will never grow tired of it. So whenever I do a rerun of DA2, Fenris is always my romance choice, while I always have trouble picking in Inquisition. I feel Veilguard is going to be a hard competition though.
What is your favourite specific moment in the DA series?
There are many great moments in Dragon Age 2 that kept me breathless and speechless. But I gotta say that everything leading from “In your Heart shall burn” to the absolutely breathtaking scene of seeing Skyhold for the first time is THE Dragon Age moment to me. I still get goosebumps whenever I play the quest and I love the transmission from The Dawn Will Come to the amazing music they play when travelling the mountain pass, mixing with Solas monologue and ending on top of the mountain before you see Skyhold unfolding in front of you, high up in the sky’s with the most amazing music ever. Truly goosebumps material!
What is your favourite game?
I gotta say it’s Dragon Age 2. I know it is not as broad as Inquisition and every area might look the same, but I absolutely love the Story writing of Dragon Age 2 the most. Hawke is my favourite protagonist of them all, and every act packs so many punches that it’s hard to recover in between before they throw you yet another surprise. I also love the feeling of the found family in Dragon Age 2. They throw all those amazing bisexual disasters onto you and it just feels like coming home to me every time I replay Dragon Age 2. I think it’s the game where the story and the companions are calling out to me the most because they feel so heartfelt and are so deep in their own little stories. It feels like you get to know them bit by bit and you have to really work for it but it’s so worth it!

Absolutely minority opinion but I'm just. Really tired of Varric. I love him, I do! But he's filling a space in the party for three games now that a new character would just... make more sense in, especially if the previous games don't matter anymore.
The guy's been caught up in this shit for twenty years at this point, let him rest, let Brian Bloom narrate the games or play someone else if they're so attached. Or relegate Varric to an Important NPC role like they did Leliana and Morrigan.
I also don't understand why Harding is there, but that's more general confusion than anything.
I just find the storyline so borning now, and none of the characters compel me anymore. I was excited to meet the crew from DA2! I had Hawkes planned for each of them before the game launched, I had secondary Hawkes for the opposite of my "canon" romances with each, too. I must've replayed it thirty times from beginning to end.
I've never gotten past the Winter Palace in Inquisition on multiple attempted playthroughs. I've never romanced anyone fully. The Inquisition-focused vibe from Veilguard (and the not-quite-Fable aesthetic for the character designs) just does nothing for me and I'm not interested in the characters or the way the devs have been handling press for it.
I wanted to be excited after the let-down that was DAI.
I have played Inq a stupid number of times and actually quite like the aesthetic direction of this game but I understand your feelings :( I’m glad at least Varric won’t be a companion in this game. Let him rest! Or just kill him off

Not cyberpunk but I really like how this shot turned out so Im sharing it here.
It only took being almost done with Tevinter Nights and listening to the first two eps of Vows & Vengeance for me to go "fine, I'll replay inquisition before veilguard comes out!"
I also got otis working with it so I can make things like this
Tumblr media
I really love how this shot turned out and I am super excited to take more pics. Folks should let me know if theyd want to see them here or if I should keep them to my main blog.

Anyway heres a better look at his face, his name is Orrek and he is not having a good time. Poor little smuggler.

Any suggestions for a painless inquisition replay? I want to replay it before veilguard comes out but every time I think about the hinterlands and leveling I just feel unbearably exhausted. I'm thinking maybe lowest possible difficulty and only doing quests that sound interesting but I'd love tips if anyone's got them
