Chapter 20D: Together We Can Make It A Dream
What you need is what I want So don't be afraid, let it show Don't be afraid, just let it explode We have got the power to build the highest tower Standing with our feet on the ground We've got what it takes, together we can make it Together we can blow the house down…
-- “Blow The House Down,” Living In A Box (1989) [click here to listen]
North Carolina || February 1989
Dinner was delicious. They all consciously kept the conversation light and fun.
Claire was particularly interested to hear Raymond’s impressions from walking around the property – about twenty acres in all, including woods and a pond. Jamie eagerly discussed the barn, now home to their vehicles (Jamie’s black 1965 Corvette, Jamie’s cherry red Dodge Charger, Jamie’s Harley-Davidson, and Claire’s powder blue Datsun that proved to be the perfect, practical go-to-town car) for the winter.
“I’m thinking of making it a proper home studio,” he said, scraping the remnants of chili from his bowl. “With a sound board and everything. Will give us more space in the house.”
“And it won’t be so loud,” Claire smiled, sipping her ice water, left hand entwined with Jamie’s under the table.
“It’s beneficial to have a little separation,” Raymond reflected. “When I started my private practice, I was given very good advice to rent an office space. There was a higher up-front cost, but patients certainly didn’t want to see me in my living room.”
“Speaking of which…”
Raymond immediately turned to face Claire. Encouraging.
Claire smiled softly, before continuing. “I want to get back to medicine – after we get back from Europe.” She paused. “My license transfer finally came through from Massachusetts a few weeks ago. I don’t want to open a private practice – it wouldn’t be fair to patients, if I’ll be on the road with Jamie, or here at home with children. But there’s a clinic in town where I can start picking up hours. I’ve already talked with them about it.”
“That would be wonderful, Claire.” Raymond’s smile was genuine. “And good to have that day-to-day interaction with patients again. You must not have had that too frequently in your last job.”
She shook her head. “By the end, my only direct interaction with patients was to consult their surgeries, before I would cut into them. I was very far removed from the daily grind. So incredibly different than at the very beginning right out of medical school.” She darted a smile at Jamie. “Though all those hours in the ER did come in handy on tour. I stitched and bandaged up quite a few wounds, splinted a few broken fingers. Jamie doesn’t understand when I say it, but I truly enjoyed doing that.”
“I just don’t get why she’d ever get excited at the sight of blood,” he smiled. “But it makes her happy.” He paused, and turned to look at her straight on. “It would make me happy, Claire, for you to spend more time at the clinic. Even now, in time we have left before it all gets crazy again. I…” He swallowed. “I want you to make something of your own, here in North Carolina. To get back to your roots.”
She beamed at him. He darted in for a quick kiss, feeling no hesitation in front of Raymond.
“Remind me when you’ll be in Los Angeles?”
“Two and a half weeks until we leave.” Jamie helped himself to another ladle of chili. “I’ve got three weeks of rehearsals – the band hasn’t played together since October. While we’re there, we’ll be meeting with the label, and maybe book a day or two in the studio. Probably a show or two, something small.”
“And then a week home here in April,” Claire added, “before flying to England to kick off the tour.”
“120 dates and counting.” Jamie sighed. “We’re booked two, three dates in most cities, though fortunately we’ve got at least a day in between cities to travel. We’re headlining all kinds of festivals. And then in August we have two weeks off – ”
“Three,” Claire chimed in.
“…and Claire and I are torn between coming back home, or going for a European vacation somewhere.”
“We don’t need to decide now,” she said softly. “Plus, if I’m pregnant by then…”
Jamie kissed her temple.
“I’ve been thinking about how we’ll work together on this tour.” Raymond pushed aside his empty bowl and pulled a small spiral notepad from the inside pocket of his blazer. He pushed back the cover, made a quick note with the pen tucked behind his ear, and looked across the table at Jamie and Claire.
“We’re open to whatever you suggest,” Claire said softly. “I hope you know that about us by now.”
“I do. I’ve been going back and forth between whether to do something in a structured way, especially given the logistical challenges and the travel. But I think that in order for both of you to get the support you need from me, we’ll need to aim for as much structure as possible.”
“I agree,” Jamie nodded, wrapping an arm around Claire’s shoulders. “Consistency will be key. Claire and I – this last tour, we tried to stick to the same schedule every day.”
“For show days, anyway,” she added.
Raymond flipped to a new page, pen poised. “And I assume that would be roughly the same, this tour?”
Claire nodded. “Wake up call at 830 or 9 AM. Wake up, love each other, order breakfast to the room, shower. Limo to the venue at 1130. Get to the venue, have lunch, band does soundcheck. That’s done by 2 PM. Then free time at the venue. Sometimes Colum meets with the band. Sometimes the band hangs out together, plays music – that’s where a lot of new songs come from. Sometimes I’ll spend time with Angus’ girlfriends, or reading in Jamie’s dressing room, or just being alone with Jamie and enjoying the quiet. All of us use that time to catch up on phone calls. I try to call Uncle Lamb and my friends Joe and Gail Abernathy a few times a week.”
“And to think that a year ago, she’d never been on the road like this,” Jamie smiled.
Claire blushed prettily. “Dinner usually at 6 or 630. Then the band gets dressed, sometimes does fan meet-and-greets or press interviews. The opening act starts at 8. About 45 minutes of the opener, and then it’s showtime.”
Jamie pushed back his empty bowl. “And after the gig, we do a quick band huddle to talk about the show. Sometimes with Colum and also our road manager. Claire and I are usually in the limo back to the hotel by midnight, if we’re not traveling. If we are, then sometimes we fly after the gig and sometimes it’s first thing in the morning.”
Raymond scribbled on the pad. “It’s good to have so much structure. Did you feel the same way?”
Jamie nodded. “Definitely. Claire?”
“Yes,” she agreed. “Especially when we’re in a new place every few days.”
“And when during the day would you have the panic attacks, Jamie?”
Jamie frowned. “After dinner. Sometimes during the free time in the afternoon.”
“One time in the hotel room, after we got back from the show,” Claire added gently. “And a few times in the morning, when we were waiting for the limo. Once, in the limo.”
“Do you see that with your other patients, Raymond?”
Raymond looked up from his notebook. “That panic attacks come at any time, without a particular pattern? Yes. Though especially with the combat vets, something in their environment acts as a trigger. Do you ever feel anxious to perform, Jamie?”
Jamie shook his head. “I fucking love it, Raymond. To play my music, with my band…to hear thousands of people singing the words I wrote, and so into the music and the whole experience we give them…there’s really nothing else like it. It’s a high, for sure. Better than any drug.”
Jamie squeezed Claire’s hand. “And the only feeling that’s better than when I’m on stage, is when I’m loving Claire.”
Raymond set down his pen, and flipped back a few pages in his notebook. “So it’s not triggered by the performance itself. And I assume you don’t get anxious or claustrophobic on buses or airplanes?”
“Nope. I’ve never had a problem with that.”
“And were your days so consistent before? When you were using?”
“Yes and no. The broad strokes of it, yes – though add ‘whiskey’ and ‘coke’ and ‘girls’ to any of the time I had to myself.” He paused, thinking. “After the show most nights, I wouldn’t go back to the hotel right away. I’d celebrate with the roadies and some girls, usually hit up a strip club, not make it back to my hotel until dawn. Obviously I don’t do that anymore.”
“You’re just an old man who likes being tucked up in bed with his lawfully wedded wife,” Claire teased.
“You know it,” Jamie smiled.
Raymond scribbled on a fresh sheet in his notebook. Absently running his hand through his hair. Clearly thinking.
“All right,” he said, after a while. “Before I walk you through my plan – I need to ask you something. Both of you.”
To be continued…

⋆˚࿔ october prompts 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Today was really busy and now it's after 9pm in my time zone but I got it done!!
²²⁾ a turquoise-tiled pool
“You should put some more sunscreen on,” said George, causing Matty to lift his head up, blinking sleepily from where he had been dozing in the sun, he had the imprint of the terry cloth fabric of his beach towel on his cheek. His pale shoulders had taken on a pink hue and George knew he was going to be sore if he stayed in the sun for much longer without lotion. But Matty was also like a lizard, trying to convince him to come into the shade would be pointless.
“Can you do it?” Matty whined, “I’m comfortable,” he said and George sighed, setting aside the book he had been reading, hauling himself to his feet and padding across the pool deck to where Matty had dragged his own lounge chair into the sun. The concrete was hot against his bare soles.
“You’re lucky I love you,” George grumbled, pouring sunscreen into the palm of his hand, and bending over to rub it into the irritated skin of Matty’s shoulders and back. His skin was warm, both from the burn and from the heat of the sun and he flinched when the cold lotion made contact.
“Sorry,” said George, quickly as he worked the lotion into Matty’s skin. He hummed in acknowledgement, the sound vibrating through George’s fingers.
“Thank you,” said Matty, drawing out the syllable, drunk on sunshine when George had finished.
“You’re welcome,” said George, unable to resist smacking the curve of Matty’s ass, causing him to yelp, picking his head up once again to glare before George returned to his own lounge chair, in the shade. He picked up his book once again, a thriller that he had seen at nearly every airport bookstore while touring last year but hadn’t had a chance to actually sit down and read despite carrying it through six different countries.
They had rented a house on the coast, the waves lapping the shoreline, a turquoise-tiled pool in the foreground, the water glittering blue and inviting in the sunshine. George wished he could snap a picture, wished he could remember this moment forever, Matty laying face down in the sun, half asleep as he did his best to cook himself, the water glittering. But they had been adamant in their agreement, no phones this trip. Both of their iPhones were upstairs in the nightstand of the master bedroom, locked away so there wouldn’t be any kind of temptation.
A picture wouldn’t do it justice anyway, George thought, turning back to his book. A picture wouldn't capture the sound of water moving against the shore, and against the sides of the pool. A picture wouldn’t capture the birds chirping in the distance, the smell of salt and chlorine and sunscreen. A picture wouldn’t capture the warmth of the sun and the heat in Matty’s gaze as he looked over the tops of his sunglasses, inquiring without words if George was interested in going another round. Heat pooled in George’s belly that had nothing to do with the sun. He sat his book down and grinned.

Lighthouse Keeper Tweets
Part Three: February 2024 - July 2, 2024
Back to Part One Back to Part Two
Feb. 5, 2024 (barely) 12 a.m.
"'I have been used to consider poetry as the food of love.'"
Now THIS is interesting. First, this is a Jane Austen quote (from Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice [see 11/28 tweet, as well]). In the book, Darcy goes on to say, "Of a fine, stout, healthy love it may. Everything nourishes what is strong already. But if it be only a slight, thin sort of inclination I am convinced that one good sonnet will starve it entirely away." What Darcy is saying here is that he formerly thought pretty words and declarations were enough to sustain a relationship, but he now knows that's not enough. The underlying bond has to be strong first, or it's all for naught. Interesting. Because, my second point about this post is: this is the date of the Grammy's, and the date Taylor announced The Tortured Poets Department.
Feb. 16, 2024 1:30 a.m. BST
"You don't mess with love, you mess with the truth."
These are lyrics from Ellie Goulding's "On My Mind." Someone can't stop thinking about someone!
Feb. 18, 2024 10:45 p.m. BST
"The dirt on my jeans from the mud on the Heath feels like karma to me"
Perhaps someone is starting to realize he fucked up.
Feb. 23, 2024 4:50 p.m. BST "A tangle on the television and the magazine."
These are lyrics from The Arctic Monkey's Teddy Picker. Perhaps, and this is just a guess by me, obviously, but maybe a shot at TK, who was riding around in a rented sportscar, speeding and blowing red lights in Australia while following Taylor on tour?
Feb. 26, 2024 12 a.m. BST
"I've let love be free, and I've let it go. I've let it fade and I've watched it blow."
Sad.
March 20, 2024 5:35 p.m.
"You go back, Jack, do it again, wheel turnin' ' round and 'round"
These are lyrics from Steely Dan's "Do It Again."
March 22, 2024 1:41 a.m.
"One to remember A spill to reflect on High in your bedroom Will you still remember?"
He mentions in his replies that he's "feeling creatively inspired by the people [he's] surrounded with." Perhaps in the studio? A little poem for someone. Reminds me of the "you smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate," line from TTPD song. So, maybe, yeah, she did remember. Gah, these two exhaust me.
March 28, 2024 1:10 a.m. "If you're gonna try and walk on water make sure you wear you comfortable shoes."
These are lyrics from The Arctic Monkey's " Piledriver Waltz. Could be nothing, but it could also be a few things.... Anxiety about the impending TTPD release (thinking about the line "you're gonna shoot me out of a cannon" here). Pics of TK and TS at Nobu that had just popped up where TS looked annoyed as hell. Also there were all those pics of them from their beach vacation. Also, a few minutes before, he'd posted something about the stars, and then deleted it and proceeded to gaslight everyone on his timeline who asked about it. smh.
April 5, 2024 12 a.m. BST
"Would you hear of an old-time sea-fight? Would you learn who won by the light of the moon and stars? List to the yarn, as my grandmother's father the sailor told it to me?"
This is a bit of the Walt Whitman poem "Song of Myself." Has the tell-tale moon and stars, of course. What is he fighting for, I wonder. And who will win?
April 8, 2024 10:35 p.m. BST
"I looked around then for a reason When there wasn't something more to blame it on But, if time makes a difference while we're gone Tell me now, and I won't be hanging on"
These are lyrics from The Eagles' "Train Leaves Here This Morning." Maybe feeling defeated? He's about to leave to go to Japan with TR. When someone mentions in replies that this isn't a happy song (it's not. it's about one of the band members going through a divorce), LK replies: "Or, you could see it as a gateway to happiness. Sometimes the path to joy needs some pruning, and leaving things behind." Then someone else replies, "This is how it has to be though, right?" And LK responds, "I mean... no? Nothing really has to be anything; new things wash up on the shore, seasons pass, gardens flourish and die. Life is ever fluctuating. But also, it's just a great Eagles song." That's some true blue Aquarius shit right there. LOL. Another tidbit from the replies, he likes "Idaho" and "Words" by Gregory Alan Isakov.
April 12, 2024 8:30 p.m. BST / 4:30 a.m. JST
"Take a second, take a minute, take a mile Run the routes, light it up, enjoy the highs"
Probably in Japan?
April 19, 2024 12:31 p.m. BST
"Certified member of The Tortured Poets Department now."
And so it begins, again. Comments in the replies that he's feeling "tortured and poetic." Says he can't pick a favorite track yet.
April 25, 2024 7 p.m. BST
"I won't sit here and wax poetic to try and untangle the way we've crossed each other's firing range"
Sure, Jan. In his replies, he says he's currently inspired by "my life, my fears, my loves, my losses, in no particular order." Also says his current favorite TTPD track, "Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus" "has [his] heart."
April 26, 2024 12:35 a.m. BST
"Love is no more Than the wide blossom which the wind assails, Than the great tide that treads the shifting shore, strewing fresh wreckage gathered in the gales"
Already wrote about this here. My dude here is IN IT. He sarcastically says he's feeling "dazzling," and when asked who he's dancing with he replies, "Myself, my closet skeletons, and my wandering mind!" Cool night, LK. Sounds like a blast!
April 29, 2024 10:55 p.m. BST
"I used your old toothbrush to clean out my keep cup I suppose that's the way things are right now"
A keep up. So, who's toothbrush we talking about here?
April 30, 2024 1:01 a.m. "What are our vices for today?"
I've already posted about how very, very well he's doing.
May 3, 2024 12:30 a.m. "When the garden leaves blow and you jump out your skin once the shock starts to go that's when solitude sets in"
Already posted about this one, too. Tayrry no more?
May 9, 2024 10:40 p.m. BST
"I should think most of my problems are solvable by feeling the sun's warmth and the sparkle of the stars."
He did pop up in a couple spots in London (a cab, dinner and the ballet) the next day with a nice tan! I'd hoped he'd been to Paris, but it was overcast and not very warm there. Maybe he was just laying out in the Heath taking it easy (and maybe texting someone??). In his replies, he seems in quite a good mood and talks about getting high to write. He also replies to a commenter who asked, "Are you watching TTPD livestream from Paris?" LK said, "I had hoped she would come to Eroda. Granted, it would be a lot more intimate than she's used to..." Cheeky, bugger.
May 17, 2024 3:25 p.m. BST
"Would you be angry? At the cruelty of history Fading away the stories we penned For slamming the dot at the end.
Here's how I interpret this: LK is asking the muse, would you be angry at history if it decided this was it for us? If this was where it decided our story ended? In his replies, LK also mentions he’s been doing some “embroidery.” This reminds me of the line in “loml,” “we embroidered the time of when I was away, stitching ‘we were just kids, babe.’” Perhaps LK is musing about memories today. He also says in response to the question “May I ask you what you would change about your past, what do you like about your present and what would you like get in your future?” “I guess there's not much point in thinking about changing the past, and I love the love I have right now, and in the future l'd like to keep that love.” In Haylor news, rumors are that Tayrry has split. Taylor is about to play night one in Stockholm after spending time with TK in Italy and Harry is unseen (rumor is he's out of London doing a photoshoot--perhaps for HS4, I hope!).

How much does it cost to trek to Everest Base Camp?
It is a most asked question amongst the thrill seekers who wanted to visit Everest Base camp once in a lifetime. Whether you hike to Everest Base Camp on your own or with a guide will affect how much it will cost. In addition, numerous other considerations, such as the route you take, your meals and lodging, come into play. An average classic Everest Base Camp trek, which most hikers complete and begins in Lukla, can cost roughly *USD 1,200. Luxury expeditions to Everest Base Camp might run you between $3,300 and $4,500 per person. The price of the Everest base camp trek also depends on the days you choose. There are 12 Days Everest Base Camp Trek and 14 Days Everest base camp trek itinerary.
How much does it cost to trek to Everest Base Camp? Here are the expected cost breakdowns for the Everest Base Camp trip, including guide, porter fees, travel expenses, permits, and the cost of trekking supplies and transportation.
The cost of lodging
During the trek, you will mostly stay in basic teahouses known as teahouses. However, if you’ve signed up for a luxury journey, you’ll stay in the well facilitated lodges at some places. Major trekking hubs like Lukla, Phakding, and Namche Bazaar provide a wider range of lodging options.
The cost of a twin-sharing room in a basic teahouse ranges from USD 5 to USD 10 per day. It means, for a 12-day hike, your total accommodation costs will around USD 200. Luxury lodging can cost more between $200-250 per night.
Permit expenses
Trekkers are required to obtain two permits for Everest base camp trek that are Sagarmatha National Park Permit and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit.
Cost of trekking equipment
The costs of the trekking gears are depending on the quality you choose. You can easily get all the qualities trekking equipment in Thamel. In the Himalayas, weather and terrain conditions might be difficult, so it makes sense to take quality equipment.
Backpacks, trekking poles, polarized sunglasses, route maps, torches, extra batteries, and rain jackets are all included in the list of trekking necessities. Additionally, the tools can be rented. Your total trekking equipment should cost you between USD 300 to USD 500.
Lukla flights or ground transports expenses.
Normally, a starting point of this trek is Lukla, and is often reached by flight from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. The approximate cost of the round trip flight is USD 390 per person.
Alternatively, from Kathmandu, you can take a local bus or jeep drive to Jiri or Salleri. After reaching Salleri or Jiri, you need to trek about 2-4 days to get. It is a legendary foothill trail that was followed by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa in their Everest Expedition in 1953. The cost of hiring a jeep is from $150-200 and $12-15 for local bus ticket.
Cost of independent trip versus a guided tour
Local trekking companies in Kathmandu operate guided group tours to Everest Base Camp. If you trek with an organized group all of your logistics, including accommodations, foods, transportations, guide, permits and porters are arranged by the agency.
A fully guided trek ought to cost between USD 1,300 and USD 1,500. You can trek with both guide and porter, or only with porter who serves as both a guide and a porter for independent treks.
The cost of the independent trek can be varying, depending on how much you eat food and the lodging you choose. Normally, it would cost between $ 1000-1200 including all your meals, Lukla flights, porter, accommodations and foods during the trek.
Note: Trek to Everest Base Camp with an organized group through local agency or with local guide and porter is much safer than the independent hike.
Porter wages
If you need porters for the Everest base camp trek, you can hire them from Lukla. A porter from Lukla typically charges USD 20-25 per day and can communicate in English. A porter is advised if you are a novice trekker. Hiring a porter can make your trekking in Nepal more comfort and pleasurable.
Food and drink expenses
The costs of food are variable depending on what you choose in your meal. Food and water prices may increase as you go higher. There are plenty additional choices for meal, including soups, momos, fried rice noodles, and spring rolls. Pasta, pizza, or chicken sizzlers are also available at a high cost. You should expect to pay between USD 5-7 for a basic breakfast and USD 6–12 for lunch or dinner. Bottled water might cost anywhere between USD 1.5 to USD 4. You can refill your bottled with boiled or filtered water as an alternatives of buying bottled water.
Travel insurance costs
Having a full coverage of travel insurance is beneficial for Everest base camp trek in case of any losses or emergencies. Altitude sickness, mishaps, and canceled flights are additional scenarios that could be difficult. Due to this reason, travel insurance is required to reduce all of these hazards. You can purchase full coverage of insurance around $150-200 dollar that covers all your medical, health and emergency rescue services. It is highly recommended for your financial security.

Types of Germen Hangers:
German hanger tents, also known as German hangar tents or German industrial tents, come in various types and configurations to suit different requirements and applications. Here are some common types of German hanger tents:
Standard German Hanger: This is the most common type of German hanger tent, characterized by its high clearance height and wide span. It typically has a curved or arched roof design and is suitable for industrial storage, logistics, manufacturing, and large-scale events.
Curved German Hanger: Curved German Hanger tents feature a unique curved roof design, which adds to their aesthetic appeal. The curved shape enhances their structural strength and provides additional headroom.
Modular German Hanger: Modular German Hanger tents are designed to be assembled and joined together to create larger covered areas. They offer flexibility in terms of size and can be expanded or reduced based on requirements. This type is commonly used in situations where a significant amount of covered space is needed.
Insulated German Hanger: Insulated German Hanger tents are equipped with insulation materials to regulate temperature and provide thermal comfort. They are suitable for applications where temperature control is important, such as the storage of temperature-sensitive goods or events in extreme weather conditions.
Transparent German Hanger: Transparent German Hanger tents have transparent or semi-transparent roof and wall panels, allowing natural light to enter the structure during the day. They create a bright and airy atmosphere, making them ideal for events, exhibitions, and showcases that require ample natural lighting.
Customized German Hanger: Rental companies often offer customized German Hanger tents to meet specific client requirements. These can include special features like ventilation systems, flooring options, lighting solutions, branding options, and other customized elements based on the intended use of the structure.
It’s important to note that the availability of specific types of German hanger tents may vary among rental companies and regions. The size, shape, and features of German hanger tents can also be customized based on individual needs. When seeking a German hanger tent, it’s advisable to consult with rental companies to determine the available options that best align with your requirements.
Things to take care of during German hanger installation:
Installing a German hanger tent requires careful planning and execution to ensure a safe and successful setup. Here are some key things to take care of during the German hanger installation process:
Site Inspection: Before installation, conduct a thorough site inspection to assess the terrain, ground conditions, and any potential obstacles or hazards. Ensure that the site is suitable for the installation of a German Hanger tent, considering factors such as ground stability, accessibility for equipment, and clearance from surrounding structures or utilities.
Permits and Regulations: Check local regulations and obtain any necessary permits or permissions required for installing a temporary structure like a German hanger tent. Adhere to safety guidelines, fire codes, and any other relevant regulations specific to your location.
Foundation and Anchoring: Ensure a proper foundation for the German Hanger tent. Depending on the ground conditions, you may need to use concrete ballasts, stakes, or other anchoring methods to secure the tent. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and recommendations for anchoring and structural integrity.
Assembly Instructions: Carefully review the assembly instructions provided by the manufacturer or rental company. Follow the step-by-step instructions, paying attention to details such as frame assembly, roof and wall panel installation, and securing all connections properly. Improper assembly can compromise the stability and safety of the tent.
Safety Precautions: Prioritize safety during installation. Ensure that the installation team wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows safety protocols. Use proper lifting techniques and equipment when handling heavy components. Be mindful of potential electrical hazards and take the necessary precautions when installing lighting or electrical systems.
Weather Conditions: Monitor weather conditions closely during the installation process. Avoid installation during extreme weather conditions, such as strong winds, heavy rain, or storms. If adverse weather conditions arise during installation, suspend work and resume when conditions improve to ensure the safety of the installation team and the integrity of the structure.
Quality Control and Inspections: Perform quality control checks during and after installation to ensure that all components are properly installed and the tent is secure and stable. Inspect for any loose connections, tears, or damage to the fabric or structural elements. Rectify any issues promptly to ensure the tent’s safety and functionality.
Clear Communication: Maintain clear communication among the installation team members and any other stakeholders involved in the process. Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and follows a coordinated approach to installation.
Professional Assistance: If you are not experienced in German Hanger tent installation, it is advisable to seek professional assistance from the rental company or an experienced tent installation team. They have the expertise and knowledge to handle the installation process safely and efficiently.
By following these guidelines and taking necessary precautions, you can ensure a smooth and safe installation of a German Hanger tent. Remember to consult the manufacturer’s or rental company’s specific instructions and guidelines for your particular tent model and seek professional assistance when needed.

Randall Randy Konsker recommends experimenting with specialty crops like herbs, mushrooms, or berries, which often fetch higher prices at local markets. Offering seasonal produce can also attract more customers and provide steady income year-round.
2. Create Agritourism Experiences
Farms can be attractive destinations for city dwellers seeking a taste of rural life. Randall Randy Konsker suggests offering farm tours, pumpkin picking, or hayrides to generate additional income. Agritourism allows visitors to experience your farm while paying for activities and products. Adding farm-to-table dining or educational workshops can create even more revenue streams.
3. Sell Value-Added Products
Transforming raw products into value-added goods can significantly increase your profit margins. Randall Randy Konsker advises turning milk into cheese, yogurt, or butter, and fruits into jams or sauces. These items often have longer shelf lives and can be sold at a premium, especially if marketed as organic or artisan.
4. Lease Out Your Land
If you have extra land, Randall Randy Konsker recommends leasing it out to make extra cash without extra effort. You could lease land for events like weddings, use it for community-supported agriculture (CSA), or rent it to other farmers for grazing or growing.
By following Randall Randy Konsker’s strategies, you can enhance your farm's income and ensure long-term financial stability.

Journey Through the Genres 3 - Mystery Crawl
By: HannahCT
Hello everyone! Last year, HannahCT made this world crawl for NaNo 2021. She is unable to host it this year and so with her blessing I am reviving it for you all. Thank you to HannahCT for all her hard work and time put in to the documents and last year’s competition. I will be updating the main post more frequently, so please check it for for updates information.
This crawl is the third round in the Journey Through the Genres Challenge 8, although it can also be completed as a stand alone crawl.
The crawl features a couple, Andi and Nick, who have recently graduated from university and found jobs in a new town. Andi (ze/zir) loves mysteries, uses a wheelchair and will start teaching a year 4 class at the local primary school in September. Nick (he/him) prefers period dramas, has a biochemistry degree and is due to start work with the local water company analysing samples. The two of them are in the process of moving into their rented bungalow when they get caught up in a mystery that has plagued the town for years.
In order to balance this crawl for a variety of writing speeds, the first step will assign you a multiplier that should be applied to any step that tells you to any step that instructs you to write a certain number of words (except if the step explicitly states otherwise). If you are doing this crawl as part of the Journey Through The Genres Challenge you must use the multiplier the crawl assigns to you, although if you’re close to the borderline and you don’t feel your first attempt at this step was representative of your normal writing speed you may repeat the step to get a more representative result. (The spreadsheet will do the multiplication for you and adjust the word goals as required.) If you aren’t participating in the Journey Through the Genres Challenge , you can either ignore the multipliers altogether or adjust your multiplier to give you larger or smaller goals.
Andi and Nick arrive at their new home, park the car and make their way up the path. Write for 10 minutes as Andi unlocks the door and they have their first peek inside.
The amount you wrote in this step determines the multiplier that you should apply to the ‘write x words’ goals in the remainder of the crawl (except for step 4). 0 to 149 words: 0.25 (or divide by 4) 150 to 249 words: 0.5 (or divide by 2) 250 to 349 words: 0.75 350 to 449 words: 1 (ie no multiplier) 450 to 549 words: 1.25 550 to 649 words: 1.5 650 to 749 words: 1.75 750 to 849 words: 2 850 to 949 words: 2.25 950 to 1049 words: 2.5 1050 to 1149 words: 2.75 1150 to 1249 words: 3 (and so on, if anyone out there can manage more than 125 WPM)
From now on, you should multiply the target in any ‘write x words’ step by your multiplier . For example if you earned a multiplier of 1.25 instead of writing 320 words in step 2 you would write 320*1.25=400 words. If you are using the Journey Through the Genres points sheet 1 it will do the multiplying for you so just write the number of words it tells you to write. If by the end of step 6 you find yourself consistently writing at a speed that would have put you in a different bracket in this step you can adjust your multiplier to reflect the new WPM, although if you’re using the spreadsheet you’ll need to redo step 2 with your new word goal.
Andi and Nick take some time to tour their new home, and Andi is pleased to note that there is no tricky step to negotiate on the way into the house and the doorways are all wide enough for zir wheelchair. Write 320 words as they explore . (Remember to apply your multiplier!)
They can’t do anything else until the arrival of the removal lorry bringing most of their stuff and the furniture they’ve already managed to accumulate, so Andi and Nick head to a coffee shop they spotted just down the street. They choose one of the outdoor tables so they’ll be able to see when the lorry arrives and order a drink each. Whilst they’re drinking, a middle-aged white woman comes up to them and introduces herself as Fern. When Fern finds out they’ve just moved to the area she insists on telling them all the local gossip. Write for 30 minutes as Fern regales them with a tale about a spate of disappearances in which young women go missing from their local area every 5 years, always in August or early September. (Multipliers only apply to steps with a word goal, so you should write for 30 minutes regardless of what your multiplier is.)
Andi is fascinated by the tale, but Nick spots the removal lorry pulling up at their house and they have to leave to let the removal people in. They hurry back, but when Andi attempts to unlock the door ze finds that it’s already open. Andi is confused because ze’s sure ze locked it earlier, but shrugs it off as a memory lapse - until ze rolls into the kitchen and spots a crumpled body lying on the floor with blood pooling on the tiles under their head. One of the removal team is first aid trained and rushes forwards, whilst Andi grabs zir phone and dials 999.
The number of words you write for this step depends on the phone number of the emergency services (or ambulance, if you have different numbers for different services) in your local area . For this step, multipliers do not apply. If the phone number is between 90 and 200 write that many words. If the phone number is between 900 and 2000 divide it by 10, round up to the next word and write that many words. If the phone number is between 9 and 20 , multiply it by 10 and write that many words. The above should cover the numbers for most areas, but if yours isn’t included then either use the number for another country or find your own way to generate a number between 90 and 200 (either inspired by your emergency services number or randomly generated).
5. The victim is still breathing and by the time the ambulance arrives the bleeding from their head has slowed down, but they remain unconscious. The paramedics whisk the victim away to hospital in the ambulance, leaving a pair of police officers to question Andi, Nick and the three-person removal team about the incident. Write for 10 minutes as they all give their statements.
6. The police declare that the bungalow is now a crime scene, and order Andi and Nick to stay at the local Bed & Breakfast or other alternative accommodation until they have completed their investigation. Write for 20 minutes as they try to find out if the B&B is wheelchair accessible and figure out what to do with their furniture, since they only booked the removal lorry for one day and the company has other jobs that the lorry and crew need to get to.
7. A few days later, Andi and Nick get a message that the previously unidentified victim has finally regained consciousness. She’s been able to tell hospital staff that her name is Lauren and she was spending the summer travelling around Britain by train, but she doesn’t remember anything after stepping off the train in their town on the day she was found in Andi and Nick’s kitchen. She wants to talk to the people who found her, so Andi and Nick head to the hospital. Write 400 words as they talk to Lauren for a few minutes before the hospital staff ask them to leave. (Remember to use your multiplier to adjust the word goal.)
8. After their talk with Lauren Andi remembers about the story Fern told them on their first day in town. Ze decides to research the previous disappearances in case there is any connection with Lauren’s case. Nick thinks there is no connection as Lauren didn’t actually go missing, but Andi speculates that maybe that was only because whoever took Lauren didn’t realise that the bungalow was no longer empty and would have spirited Lauren away given the chance. Nick still isn’t convinced, but as they still can’t go into the bungalow he agrees to help Andi with zir research. Write 600 words as they find all the information they can on the internet and then head to the local library to see if there are any newspaper records that go further back.
9. Now that Lauren is awake and doesn’t remember anything useful the police have decided to close their investigation. Andi is upset that they don’t seem to care about Lauren, but glad to be able to get back into their new home. Nick wants to get on with moving in straight away, but Andi insists on searching for clues first just in case the police missed anything. Write for 15 minutes as they scour each room for anything out of place.
10. To Nick’s surprise, the search bears fruit. Roll a six-sided die to determine how many clues Andy and Nick managed to find, then do the associated challenge. 1-2: Multiply the number of clues by 200 (and your multiplier) and write that many words as Andi pours over each clue, then insists they search again in case they missed something. 3-4: Multiply the number of clues by 100 (and your multiplier) and write that many words as Andi studies each clue in the hope it will tell zir something useful. 5-6: Multiply the number of clues by 60 (and your multiplier) and write that many words as Nick insists the police can’t have missed this many clues and some of them must be wishful thinking on Andi’s part.
11. After ze’s done searching for clues and has studied them over and over again, Andi finally agrees to start moving some of their stuff into the house. Write 1000 words as they drive backwards and forwards from the bungalow to the storage unit where there stuff was left, transporting anything small enough to fit into their cars. During one of the trips, Andi uses zir hands-free system to call the police and update them on the clues ze managed to find, but they aren’t interested and tell zir to drop the investigation.
12. A frustrated Andi pays another visit to the hospital, where Lauren is almost ready to be released. Lauren seems equally annoyed that the police aren’t investigating her case further so Andi tells her about the clues ze found in the hope that one of them will help spark Lauren’s memory of the events leading up to her lying on the kitchen floor. Ze isn’t seriously expecting anything to help, but a receipt from a shop about a kilometre from the bungalow prompts a fuzzy memory of buying the item listed on the receipt. Write for 10 minutes as Lauren insists on being discharged from the hospital and Andi calls Nick and tells him to meet them at the shop in question.
13. When they arrive at the shop, Lauren says that the street outside it seems familiar and she thinks she remembers which way she went when she left the shop. As soon as Nick arrives they start following Lauren’s flashes of memory in an attempt to retrace their steps. Write 720 words as they make their way into a network of narrow streets leading in the direction of Andi and Nick’s new home.
14. Suddenly Lauren stops and gasps - she remembers being grabbed and pulled into a nearby alleyway. She starts breathing rapidly, her pupils dilate and her skin goes ashen. She turns back in the direction they came and tries to run, but the end of the street is blocked by a pair of people in black clothes with their faces hidden. Lauren screams and spins around again, but the other end of the street is blocked too. Yet another pair of black-clothed people steps out of the alleyway - they’re surrounded! Write 360 words as the three of them desperately search for an escape route.
15. One of the ambushers tells Lauren to come quietly and nobody will get hurt. “There’s no way we’re handing her over to you,” Andi says, ramming zir wheelchair into the legs of the person closest to zir and aiming a punch at the stomach of the other one. The fight that follows is chaotic, and Andi soon loses track of Nick and Lauren. Write as fast as you can for 5 minutes as ze struggles to defend zirself from the ambushers.
16. Andi has no idea how long the fight lasts, but it ends abruptly when one of their attackers yells something and the others run down the street, leaving a battered Andi alone with Nick, who is leant back against a wall holding his head and groaning. There is no sign of Lauren. After checking that Nick isn’t seriously injured Andi propels zir chair as fast as ze can after the fleeing attackers. Ze makes it to the end of the side-street in time to see the last of them jumping into the back of a white van and slamming the door shut. The van accelerates away before Andi can read the numberplate and ze swears in frustration. Write for 20 minutes as Andi returns to Nick and drives him to the hospital to get his head checked out.
17. It turns out that Nick is suffering from a mild concussion from a powerful punch that threw him backwards into the wall. Andi contacts the police again, but although they interview both Andi and Nick and claim they’ll check CCTV feeds from the area around where the abduction took place Andi doesn’t get the sense that they’re going to try very hard to find Lauren. They certainly don’t seem interested in Andi’s theories that this is somehow connected to the regular disappearances that Fern told them about, so Andi decides to investigate that angle zirself. Write for 1 hour as Andi goes back over all the clues ze has found so far in search of something that will tell zir where to look for Lauren. (If you struggle to write for 1 hour you can break it up into a series of shorter sprints, but try and keep the breaks as short as possible or include the breaks in the timing of the hour - for example write for 20, break for 5, write for 15, break for 5, write for 15.)
18. Andi notices that all the abductions have taken place in the same area, none more than a mile from an abandoned chapel that ze and Nick have passed whilst exploring the neighbourhood. Ze is convinced that the chapel is connected to the disappearances and persuades Nick to check out the chapel with zir. When they arrive there is no obvious sign of Lauren or the abductors and Nick wants to leave, but Andi notices tire tracks on the grass near the chapel and insists that they continue to look. Roll a die, add 5 and write for that many minutes as Andi and Nick search in and around the chapel for clues.
19. Just as Andi is about to give in to Nick’s repeated requests to go home and let the police handle the matter ze finds a door hidden behind a wall hanging. When ze opens it a short, narrow corridor barely wide enough for zir chair leads to a second door. Nick opens that one, revealing a small landing on a spiral staircase that leads both up and down. The sound of chanting drifts up from below them and there is a thumping noise above them. Andi tells Nick to investigate the thumping first whilst ze monitors the chanting and watches for anyone else using the stairs.
20. A few minutes later Nick reappears with a wobbly-looking Lauren leaning on his shoulder but the stairs have no handrail and they are moving slowly. The chanting from below stops and a moment later Andi hears someone ascending the stairs, moving much faster than the injured Nick and Lauren. Andi knows it’s up to zir to do something, but what? Write 160 words as Andi desperately tries to figure out a plan that will get all three of them out of there safely.
Andi backs away from the doorway far enough that ze hopes the hooded figure making their way up the steps won’t notice zir, and when the figure has nearly reached the little landing ze charges forwards and uses zir chair to ram the figure back down the steps. They fall with a cry and Andi quickly reverses so that Nick and Lauren can stagger through the door. They squeeze past Andi and ze slams the door shut and slides the bolt across. A few seconds later there is a furious yell and someone pounds on the door from the other side. Andi doesn’t hang around to find out if the bolt holds - ze follows Nick and Lauren out of the chapel and out to the car before dialling the police and telling them that the kidnappers are currently locked in the old chapel and they’d better come and collect them before they break out. The three of them lock all the doors of the car and drive to a safe distance away, where they can watch the chapel without being in immediate danger if the kidnappers break out.
As they wait, Andi asks Lauren what happened to her and Lauren explains that the kidnappers are part of some kind of cult or religious sect who worship an ancient and violent deity - she’s not really sure which. They have some kind of ceremony that they had selected her for. She’s not sure what the ceremony involves, but is very grateful to Andi and Nick for helping her to avoid it. She’s just finished her story when the police arrive. Write 700 words as they watch the police officers enter the chapel, then exit again with the kidnappers in handcuffs.
After the arrests the kidnappers refuse to talk about the reason they kidnapped Lauren and the other young women, but the police find the remains of several of the previous missing people buried in the grounds of the chapel and along with testimony from Lauren, Andi and Nick it’s enough to get them sent to jail. The underground room in the chapel is filled in and the chapel itself locked securely to prevent it being used for such rituals again in the future.
Congratulations for completing the crawl! If you are participating in the Journey Through the Genres Challenge, remember to input your total words and total points into the sign-up/results sheet before the end of November in order for your results to count for the competition.
[If anyone notices any issues with the disabled or non-binary representation in this crawl (including any places where I’ve slipped up on Andi’s pronouns) please let me know so I can fix the problem as soon as possible.]

How is this guy not cancelled for this?
6 Times Drake Allegedly Groomed Young Girls
His relationship with Millie Bobby Brown is what started all the speculation.
Isaac Serna-Diez
Is it about time we cancel Drake? Or, since “cancel culture” is a sort of fictional prison sentence, is it about time we hold Drake accountable for his actions? Maybe boycott his music?
No, I’m not referring to the fact that his recent album, “Certified Lover Boy,” was mid-tier, at best. I’m referring to his alleged history and allegations involving the grooming of young girls or underaged women as a fully grown — now 35-year-old — man.
In case you’ve forgotten all of the times the Canadian rapper was accused of grooming underage girls, we’ve rounded up the most infamous occasions.
Here are 6 times that Drake allegedly groomed underage girls.
1. Ogden Theatre concert in Denver, Colorado, 2010
On May 17, 2010, Drake performed at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado, around the start of his career.
He had released singles for his debut album, "Thank Me Later," but had so many songs from his mixtape, “So Far Gone,” that he would perform on his promotional tour. The tour would eventually jumpstart his career after he signed with the music label Young Money.
RELATED: Machine Gun Kelly’s Creepy History Of Sexualizing Underage Girls
During the concert, Drake called a fan onto the stage during an interlude, and started to kiss her neck and hug her from behind, before saying that he was getting “carried away” and asking her what her age was.
She replied that she was 17 — which in Colorado is the legal age of consent — to which Drake replied, “I can’t go to jail yet, man,” and stopped doing what he was doing.
However, he continued, saying he didn’t know if he should feel guilty or not, but that he had fun, and sent her off the stage with a kiss on the cheek.
In 2010, this seemed like a harmless misunderstanding. Drake was 24 at the time and at the very start of his career, but it would devolve into much worse later on.
2. Kylie Jenner’s '16th Birthday Bash', 2013
In 2013, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West arranged for Drake to perform at Kylie Jenner’s Sweet 16 — a surprise she had no idea about.
Drake was 27 at the time, but this didn’t stop rumors and speculation that the pair were seeing each other behind the scenes.
Rumors of which were given slightly more credibility due to the fact that Kanye West recently talked about how Drake slept with Jenner behind his buddy, Travis Scott’s, back.
Not only that, but for a long time Jenner and rapper Tyga started seeing each other before she legally became of age and officially announced their relationship.
3. Bella Harris and the Summer Sixteen Tour with Future, 2016
In 2018, Vice published an article reporting that Drake was dating an 18-year-old model named Bella Harris, who is also the daughter of legendary music producer Jimmy Jam.
Drake was 31 at the time, but if that doesn’t raise enough eyebrows or red flags, finding out when the two met definitely will.
Harris and Drake met during the rapper’s “Summer Sixteen” tour with other rapper Future in 2016 to promote their collaborative album, "What A Time To Be Alive." At the time, Harris was 16 (how ironic), and Drake was 29.
In an Instagram post that has since been deleted, Drake is seen being very close and handsy with Harris, causing people to call him “creepy” and speculate about the pair’s history.
Page Six reported that Drake rented out a restaurant to dine privately with someone who many speculated to be Harris, but the model later denied those claims on Instagram by saying she spent the weekend working in New York.
4. Jorja Smith and the Scorpion track “Jaded,” 2017
Drake has never been the artist to come out and say exactly who his songs are about. In fact, his breakout song, “Best I Ever Had,” started with lyrics that reference exactly that and how women will often think his songs are about them.
“You know, a lot of girls be / Thinkin' my songs are about them, but / This is not to get confused / This one's for you,” he said during the beginning instrumental.
However, many people speculate that the song “Jaded” off of his 2018 album, "Scorpion," is about English singer Jorja Smith, who was 10 years younger than him when they were rumored to be dating in 2017.
She was 19 and he was 30 when they were rumored to be dating, which while still legal, matches Drake’s strange track record of chasing after women who are much younger than he.
RELATED: Bob Dylan Isn’t The Only Musical Icon Who Allegedly Pursued Predatory Sexual Relationships With Minors
People also believe that a line from the last record on that album, “March 14,” which is about his son Adonis, is about Smith as well. “I got this 11 tatted for somebody, now it’s yours,” references Smith’s birthday, which is June 11.
Drake seems to like referencing people’s birthdays, which is something we’ll bring back up a little later.
5. Billie Eilish’s 18th birthday and Drake texts, 2019
Billie Eilish, born in December 2001, made a post on Instagram on December 17th, 2019, the day before her birthday, with the caption “18 tomorrow.”
Allegedly, some jokers thought it would be hilarious to edit a screenshot of the comments section to include a comment from Drake’s Instagram account, @champagnepapi, that said “I’ve been waiting,” with an emoji of streamers and another with a hot, sweaty face.
While everyone says it’s not real and the image is doctored, the joke came from an interview that Eilish did earlier that year with Vanity Fair where she talked about the superstar rapper.
“Drake is like the nicest dude I’ve ever spoken to,” she said when talking about the famous people who follow her on Instagram. “I mean I’ve only texted him, but he’s so nice.”
Of course, everyone immediately jumped on this interview and called Drake, who was 33 at the time, creepy.
“Everybody’s so sensitive. A grown man can’t be a fan of an artist?” she said in an interview with Vogue last year. “There are so many people that the internet should be more worried about. Like, you’re really going to say that Drake is creepy because he’s a fan of mine, and then you’re going to go vote for Trump?”
The skepticism from fans also comes from Drake’s behavior with the famous actress, Millie Bobby Brown, back in 2017-18.
6. 'Hawkins Very Own' Millie Bobby Brown and Drake talk about boys, 2017
The “6 God” himself met “Eleven,” played by Millie Bobby Brown, from the hit TV show "Stranger Things," back in 2017 and commemorated it with a post on Instagram.
The post was captioned, “Hawkins Very Own,” making a play on words with the name of his record label, “October’s Very Own,” since his birthday is in October.
At the time, he was 31 and she was 13, so instead of automatically pinning Drake as a child predator, everyone just thought he was a fan of the show and wanted to take a picture with her.
A year later, however, while Brown was being interviewed by Access at the 2018 Emmy Awards, she talked a little more about her friendship with Drake.
“I love him. I met him in Australia and he’s honestly so fantastic and a great friend and a great role model,” she said of the rapper. “We just texted the other day and he was like ‘I miss you so much,’ and I was like ‘I miss you more!’”
Related Stories From YourTango:
Why Drake is telling a 14-year-old girl that he misses him as a 32-year-old man is unknown, but it gets a little bit weirder.
When asked what kind of advice he gives her and about what, Brown said, “About boys, he helps me. Yeah yeah yeah, he’s great, he’s wonderful, I love him.”
The interviewer prodded further, asking Brown what his advice with boys is, and she says, “You know, that stays in the text messages.”
This interview raised a lot of eyebrows and concerns with people, especially given his already-shaky history.
Brown, of course, responded to the allegations in a similar manner to how Eilish would respond a couple of years later.
“[You] guys are weird... for real,” she wrote in her Instagram story about the press who wrote about her friendship with the rapper. “I’m lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance. I’m very blessed to have amazing people in my life.”
All of these allegations have hurt a small part of Drake’s career and weened a lot of people off of the rapper’s music, but so far, nothing has been substantiated or proven.
Maybe Drake just has a lot of friends, but no one really knows the truth except for him.

Norway & Scandinavia Travel Tips
Oslo | Flam Train | Nærøyfjord & Sognefjord | Bergen | Copenhagen | Malmo, Sweden | Norway travel tips
Since our kids loved Iceland so much, I tried to find other destinations with beautiful nature and temperate weather. Norway topped the list with its famous fjords.
Summer is a great time to go due to the long days. Weather wise, note the west fjord part of Norway including Bergen rain a lot. But at least when we were there it was mostly showers, rain and sun, except for 1 day when it rained on and off.
FLIGHTS
I usually find flights on Google Flights. The Explore Option can give you the best price in the next 6 months for your destination of choice. So right now it says it's $417 to go to Bergen round trip in early November and only $304 to go to Copenhagen in mid September. We spent more to go in August during kids' vacation.
GETTING AROUND
There is a Norway in a Nutshell route that you can do on your own (probably cheaper), with trains to the fjords and fjord cruise. We did just that, flying into Oslo with a stopover in Copenhagen. Then you can buy:
Train ticket from Oslo S to Flam Stasjon on Vy. This is really two trains: from Oslo to Myrdal (5 hours) on Bergen Railway, and from Myrdal to Flam (1 hour) on Flam Railway. In the summer, ticket can cost $150 per person.
Fjord cruises (typically 2 hours) from Flam to Gudvangen. We actually didn't do that, and chose to do kayak tour from Nordic Ventures leaving from Gudvangen. You can also rent a boat from Flam here to drive yourself.
Bus from Flam or Gudvangen to Voss then train to Bergen. We actually didn't quite do that either, and took a Ferry on Norled from Flam, to see more of the Sognefjord. The ferry costs $50, takes 5 hours so not as fast as the bus/train option.
One thing to note about buying train tickets on Vy, they only take European credit cards or Paypal.
Getting around in Bergen or Oslo is super easy, there's metro and Uber everywhere, and taxi from the airport. Getting around the Flam / fjord area isn't as easy. There's no Uber and we read you'd have to book taxis ahead. We ended up riding buses around, and that took planning too. Different buses operate on different schedule. You can see the options at Skyss (buy onboard) or Norways Best.
Last but not least, did you know that about a quarter of cars in Norway are electric vehicles! And over 80% of new cars sold in Norway were EVs. So we got rides in Tesla Ubers and an electric Mustang. The Tesla driver was proud and loves it. The immigrant driver of the Mustang did complain that he'd prefer a gas car that feels more like a real car. ;-)
WHERE TO STAY
We stayed in Airbnbs for most of the trip. It costs generally about $500 a night for our extended family of 6 in the most central locations. More affordable compared to our other travel choice, Banff, Canada. The only exception is Flam: limited selection and lots of travelers. We ended up staying in Aurland for a more peaceful and scenic town and paid a bit more. Another budget option is Gudvangen cabins that cost about $130 per night for 4 people.
THINGS TO DO
Norway is really a paradise for being active and exploring nature. My father-in-law said it's his favorite place, even compared with Iceland, our kids' fave. There's just so much to see and do. With 2 grandparents and 2 kids, some of our favorite things:
Kayaking in the fjords
Floating sauna in Oslo
Enjoying the fjord views in Aurland
Train ride to Flam
Hiking in Bergen
Canal boat ride in Copenhagen
Boat rental in the fjords - it was cold, wet and windy. We might have enjoyed it more with better weather.
