3 Transportation Blunders People Usually Make at Their Wedding Tips by Hire Charter Bus Rental Near Me
Tumblr media
All your marriage preparations will be in vain if you cannot achieve the location on time on your BIG DAY. Here we will address 3 significant errors individuals generally make when it comes to wedding transportation and make them end up facing multiple issues.
1. Not Reading the Contract
One of the most prevalent errors many individuals make is not reading the contract closely when hiring a car service near me for their wedding. This might cost you additional cash later, though. Read closely about what services are included in the package and double check everything later to prevent any problems.
Tumblr media
2. Not Hiring the Pros
While you may be able to employ a wedding transport from a tiny business situated in your neighborhood at lower prices, are they experts doing their work? This is the issue you should not overlook at any price. By employing experts like Orlando Bus Rental, you eliminate any likelihood of delays, absence of coordination between distinct rides, and other issues that arise.
Charter Bus Rental Near Me Orlando ensures that you get that peace of mind on your BIG DAY that most transportation businesses fail to give.
Tumblr media
3. Not Being Practical
While2-wheelers, horse carriages and several other distinctive methods of transportation have gained popularity by being used as wedding transports for the couple, sometimes they are not practical for the bride. The wedding gown, veil and heels restrict the mobility of a bride and it may be hard to gracefully get out of such rides.
Transportation will also cost you a pretty penny because you would have to arrange a distinct transportation for the bridal party as well. So why not rent a party bus from Party Bus Rentals? It's both practical and cost-effective. Call (877) 243 4717 for citations and reservations.

Disney’s Magical Express: Everything You Need To Know
Tumblr media
This is one of our favorite perks to staying at a Walt Disney World resort.  The free ride to and from the airport is nice, but I really enjoy not having to deal with the luggage! In this guide, we’ll look at everything you need to know about using the Disney Magical Express.
What is Disney Magical Express?
Tumblr media
Magical Express (aka Magic Express or “the sad bus” as my son calls it when we take it back to the airport) is the airport shuttle service operated by Walt Disney World in partnership with Mears Transportation.  It provides motorcoach transportation from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to all Disney World resort hotels and back again. It is important to note, it runs ONLY between MCO and Walt Disney World.  Although Sanford is considered an Orlando area airport, the Magical Express does not serve that airport. The buses are very nice coach buses with fabric seats and TV entertainment.  The TVs show new Mickey Shorts cartoons, some Disney Trivia, and information about the resorts. They run continuously from the airport to all resorts owned and operated by Disney.
Is Disney Magical Express Free?
Yes! Magical Express is complimentary for guests staying at any Walt Disney World resort hotel.
What Hotels Does Disney Magical Express Go To?
Here is a list of the participating hotels: Disney's All-Star Movies ResortDisney's All-Star Music ResortDisney's All-Star Sports ResortDisney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo HouseDisney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani VillageDisney's Art of Animation ResortDisney's Beach Club ResortDisney's Beach Club VillasDisney's BoardWalk InnDisney's BoardWalk VillasDisney's Caribbean Beach ResortDisney's Contemporary ResortDisney's Coronado Springs ResortBay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary ResortDisney's Fort Wilderness ResortDisney's Grand Floridian Resort & SpaThe Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & SpaDisney's Old Key West ResortDisney's Polynesian Village ResortDisney's Polynesian Villas & BungalowsDisney's Pop Century ResortDisney's Port Orleans Resort - French QuarterDisney's Port Orleans Resort - RiversideDisney's Wilderness LodgeBoulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness LodgeCopper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness LodgeDisney's Riviera ResortDisney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa There are a few hotels on the Walt Disney World property that do not offer the service; for example the Swan and Dolphin hotels as well as the Disney Springs area hotels.
How Does Disney Magical Express Luggage Transfer Work?
Tumblr media
Not only does Magic Express get you to your resort, but it will also get your luggage there.  Of course, they do it in typical Disney style too. You don’t have to worry about stopping by Bell Services at some point, your luggage will be delivered directly to your room!  Even if you’re not there. I probably enjoy this aspect more than I should openly admit. There is just something about arriving, hitting the park, and returning to my room to find my luggage waiting for me there. What Time Does Disney Magical Express Run? The option is there if you’d prefer to swing by the carousel on your way to the bus and take your luggage with you.  In fact, this is necessary if you’re arriving anytime between 10 pm and 5 am. Although the busses are available anytime, the luggage service is restricted between those hours (5 am-10 pm). How Will They Know MY Bags? Once everything is booked and registered (more on that later), Disney will mail luggage tags to your prior to your departure.  These will be yellow tags that go on your checked luggage. This allows the Disney cast members to identify and collect your bags at the airport to have them sent directly to your hotel. This means you do NOT have to go to the baggage carousels and collect your bags! Your bags will be delivered directly to your room at your resort later that day. Delivery usually takes about 3 hours.  I’ve heard stories of it taking up to 6 hours, but I have personally never experienced that.  At least not that I’m aware of. As I said, we like to arrive and then head out, if not to a park - at least Disney Springs. I cannot stress this enough; Pack anything you’ll need immediately in your carry-on bag!   Medications, diapers, MagicBands, sunscreen, swimsuits, possibly a change of clothes (we travel from PA in the winter; what we wear to the airport is not what we usually want to be wearing in the parks), etc.  I know I just said immediately, you may want to consider the first 24 hours though.  While rare, luggage does get misplaced and could take some time to get to you. Better to have those meds with you than to be left scrambling to figure out a replacement.
Tumblr media
How To Make A Magical Express Reservation
This part is really easy.  So long as you’re using our services, we take care of it for you.  However, if you’re not, there are a few different ways to add a Disney Magical Express reservation: Have your travel advisor add it for you.  We’ll ask for your flight information and then supply that to Disney on your behalf. If you made your reservation online directly with Disney and already have your flight information, you can enter it during the booking process. Just select “Add Ground” and fill out their form. You may always call the Disney Reservations line too.  The Guest Services agent will be happy to assist you. This option might take some time.
What Terminal Is Disney Magical Express?
Tumblr media
Disney's Magical Express is located on Level 1 of the B Side at the Orlando International Airport. It is very well signed and you can generally follow the crowd of people also wearing Disney apparel.  Or, if you want slightly more specific instructions: After you depart your plane, follow signs to Ground Transportation. You will take a short train ride to the main terminal from your gate.Once in the main terminal, find the B Side.Take the elevator, stairs, or escalators down to Level 1.Follow the signs to Magical Express at the far end of Level 1. Remember our packing tips?  The first thing they’re going to ask will be to scan your Magic Band (each person in your party needs their band).  In case you’re picking your MagicBands up at the resort, or you forgot and packed them or left them at home, they can also pull your information by your Disney confirmation number.  If you left them at home, you still don’t need to worry. Guest Services at your resort will be able to assist with replacements. Once you’re all checked-in, they will direct you to the correct bus for your resort. **Pro-tip: Although rare, if you want to be dropped at a resort other than the one you’re staying at, now is the time to mention it.  If you try to alter it while registering for Magical Express that will be the resort your luggage is sent to. That will certainly delay it’s arrival to you.
How Long The Disney Magical Express Take?
Tumblr media
The Disney Magical Express drive itself takes only about 30 minutes to get to Disney World, depending on traffic. However, I usually estimate 90 minutes from the time my plane lands to the resort. This allows time for getting to the Magical Express area at the airport, time waiting for your bus to depart (which can be up to 20 minutes), and the drive time itself.  Your driver will ask several times about which resorts everyone is going to. Each bus will make up to four stops at different Disney World resorts. If your resort happens to be the first stop, then you can expect a slightly shorter trip. Just be sure to pay attention to where you’re stopping… While not impossible, it can be a pain to travel from one resort to another.
Does Disney Magical Express Go To Sanford?
As mentioned before, Magical Express only services Orlando International Airport (MCO). Your best option to get from Sanford Airport (SFB) is to use a ride-share (like Lyft), rent a car, or another ride service.
Do I Have To Use Magical Express?
While the Magical Express is the only free way to get from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Disney World, you still have options.  A one-way trip from MCO to anywhere on Disney World in an Uber or Lyft will generally cost $35 and up depending on the type of rideshare you get. A taxi will start at about $50. There are various other services you can use to get from MCO to Disney World, from town cars to limos. And of course, you can rent a car at Orlando International Airport and drive yourself.  Remember, once you get to your resort there are other ways of getting around Disney World, you can read about that in our Getting Around Disney World Guide.
How Does Magical Express Work For The Return Trip?
Tumblr media
If you have Magical Express scheduled for your return to MCO Orlando Airport, you’ll receive the paperwork on your door the day before departure.  This is always a bittersweet moment for us. While we always like returning home to friends, family, and pets. It is still sad leaving. :( Sad as it may be, this paperwork is important and difficult to replace.  It will list not only your resort departure time, approximately 3 hours before your plane departs, it will also act as your return ticket.  The driver will collect that letter from you when you board the bus. Please be on time and have the letter. Tardiness and misplaced letters can delay other guests returning home potentially making for stressful situations. I suggest being at the Magical Express bus stop (usually very close to the same place where you were dropped off) about 10 minutes before your pick-up time.
How Does Resort Airline Check-In At Disney Work?
As much as I love my bags being delivered to my room; this may actually be my favorite part of the service! Walt Disney World resorts offer a wonderful service called “Resort Airline Check-In”. This allows you to check-in for your flight, receive your boarding passes, and check your bags right at your hotel! This service is available to all guests at the resort, it is not limited to those using Magical Express for their return trip.  It is, however, limited to participating airlines: Alaska AirlinesAmerican AirlinesDelta Air Lines (U.S. Domestic Flights Only)JetBlue AirwaysSouthwest AirlinesUnited Airlines The Resort Airline Check-In desks are found in the same area as Bell Services and the Magical Express bus stop. Here are some of the important rules for Resort Airline Check-In: The Resort Airline Check-In is open daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM (noon).Guests must check-in no later than 3 hours prior to their scheduled flight departure, flight delays do not extend this time, to use this service.  You may check your bag as early as you’d like. All guests must be present for check-in and have their ID, starting October 1, 2020, they must also be REAL ID compliant. If you are using Magical Express and would rather keep your bags with you, that’s not a problem either. You may take your bags with you and they will be stored under the bus.  Bell Services will keep them secure for you if you don’t want to carry them throughout the day.
Tumblr media
What Time Will Magical Express Pick You Up?
Your Magical Express pick up time will be about three hours before your scheduled flight departure.  You’re probably wondering, why so early? Well, your bus may make up to three additional stops at other resorts before going to the airport.  Also, MCO is a busy airport with more than 46 million annual passengers. It is the busiest airport in Florida and the 11th busiest airport in the U.S.  Yes, even with all of that traffic J.D. Power ranked it “Highest in Customer Satisfaction for Mega Airports” in 2017 and 2018. Disney’s Magical Express runs 24 hours a day.  Although the buses are always running, remember the luggage service is only for arrivals between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM.  Those are actual arrival times, not scheduled. So if you land late it means you’ll be gathering your bags from the carousel yourself.  Do keep track of where you are. Your carousel may not be in the same terminal that the Magical Express departs from. So you may wind up taking your luggage back through the airport to the other terminal.
Is There Magical Express At Disneyland?
Sorry, no.  Disneyland doesn’t offer complimentary airport bus transfers like Walt Disney World.  You may still arrange transfers through Disney, there will just be a charge to it.

Atreyu vs From First To Last
It’s the vicious screamo feud everyone’s talking about. Here’s how it all kicked off.  [transcript under the cut]
When From First To Last set out on a US tour supporting Atreyu this Autumn, the two bands were firm friends. They seemed like perfect tourmates, both rising to the top of the screamo pack with their similarly intense, dark-hued anthems. They even shared the same manager, and the tour seemed set for success.      Fans were left stunned, then, when From First To Last left the tour amid a war of vicious words. A post on their website bitterly complained of being “kicked off” the tour, claiming, “If we were allowed to be on the rest of the tour we would be.”  Atreyu responded in disbelief, frontman Alex Varkatzas slamming the Orlando, Florida band as “cocky” and “in it for the money”. In a scene where camaraderie is so highly valued, the storm escalating around the two bands was explosive.      The root of the problem goes back to the Warped Tour. From First To Last were forced to drop out of the festival a few dates in because of vocalist Sonny Moore’s escalating throat problems. After undergoing surgery on his throat and resting for the remainder of the summer, the band assumed he was well enough to handle screaming duties again. But by the time the Atreyu tour reached Philadelphia on October 24, 14 days into the 2-date run, Moore tore a vocal chord and was advised by a doctor to completely rest his voice immediately for fear of causing irreversible damage.     “I didn’t recover enough in time,” says Moore. “At the time I was so depressed and bummed out about my voice. I was upset because I let a lot of people down but I didn’t care what we were doing at that point.”     Rather than immediately dropping out, the rest of the band suggested continuing with Craig Owens of Chiodos, also on the tour, handling vocal duties, and Sonny just playing guitar. It’s here, it seems, that the confusion and acrimony began. FFTL apparently expected to be paid the same amount as they would have been with their frontman appearing.     “FFTL were difficult,” explains Varkatzas. “Matt [Good, guitarist] one night poured water in our monitors. Another night he freaked out and kicked one of our guitar rigs. Tha’ts pretty fucked up- but we didn’t do anything about it. Then Sonny, who’s a good guy, comes and tells us he needs to rest his voice. We’re sympathetic dudes and we don’t want to send anyone home so we offer them x amount to stay on the tour- a generous offer. They decided to leave anyway and then they posted on their webpage that they were kicked off the tour and they did everything they could to stay, which is not true. They were on a really expensive bus, they had stage props, were renting lights, renting space in our semi for their gear and they didn’t want to get rid of any of that. It was all about money.”      So, while rumors of a lawsuit from FFTL flew- although both parties now say that no legal action is going to be taken [Varkatzas: I can think of a couple better ways to settle this”]- relations between the two bands completely broke down, FFTL claiming to have been kicked off, Atreyu accusing them of greed. The only person so far stayed out of the fight is Moore, who was preoccupied with his medical problems- a planned UK support slot with Lostprophets has also been cancelled.      “I was kind of on the other end of things so I wasn’t too in the loop,” he says. “I guess MySpace bulletins were posted and things were said that kind of riled each other. It’s just miscommunication. If you read something on the internet, you can’t picture how they’re saying it. It just got out of context. There’s no malicious intent, there’s no fight, everything’s chill.”      Tim Smith, who manages both Atreyu and From First To Last, strikes a similarly reconciliatory note. In an email to Kerrang!, he explained, “The bands have had a rough few weeks, and this has been very trying for both of them. Hopefully, time will heal those wounds and allow both these bands to continue doing what they do- making music.”     For Varkatzas, though, its clear that tempers are still frayed.     “Fuck FFTL except for Sonny,” he states,”They’re not true to themselves, their music or their fans. FFTL fans will hate us because of this and its fine- we know we did the right thing and if anyone’s got anything to say about it they can say it to my face.”

3 Transportation Blunders People Usually Make at Their Wedding Tips by Hire Charter Bus
Tumblr media
All your marriage preparations will be in vain if you cannot achieve the location on time on your BIG DAY. Here we will address 3 significant errors individuals generally make when it comes to wedding transportation and make them end up facing multiple issues.
1. Not Reading the Contract
One of the most prevalent errors many individuals make is not reading the contract closely when hiring a car for their wedding. This might cost you additional cash later, though. Read closely about what services are included in the package and double check everything later to prevent any problems.
Tumblr media
Charter Bus Rental Near Orlando ensures that you get that peace of mind on your BIG DAY that most transportation businesses fail to give.
Tumblr media
Transportation will also cost you a pretty penny because you would have to arrange a distinct transportation for the bridal party as well. So why not rent a party bus from Party Bus Rentals? It's both practical and cost-effective. Call (877) 243 4717 for citations and reservations.

Post-Wedding Home Clean-up: Decluttering the Mess
Tumblr media
When you come home after the wedding, you may have noticed that you brought a lot more stuff back with you than you had anticipated. It’s not uncommon for newlyweds to have a full house whenever they return; bringing home their wedding décor, attire, left over, and wedding gifts. If you are finding difficult to concentrate and see that your home is more cluttered than you would like it to be, we have tips as practical as Party Bus Rentals, to help you throw away what doesn’t matter and keep what means the most — fast.
Tumblr media
Take it one area at a time. The best way to rid your home of unnecessary items is in small steps. Try tackling one small area of one room first, then spreading outward. Someplace like a kitchen cabinet would be a good place to start, or a desk.
Be prepared to ask yourself questions:
Could you fill up a Party Bus Rental?
When is the last time you actually used this?
Would 2 or more of your family members classify the item as “junk” or trash?
Is it practical? Is it so important, would you take it with you on a trip?
Does it have sentimental value?
If you want your home to be as spacious as a Charter Bus Rental, be very realistic with yourself when looking through items and be honest with your answers.
Tumblr media
Another great way people let go of items is by having a monetary motivation. Consider listing your items on craigslist, or letgo. Do quick research to see how much the item is worth, then list it at a price you would be willing to get rid of it for.
Replace the item with thoughts of what you could have or enjoy instead. Maybe if you sell it you can grab Charter Bus Rentals and have an amazing dinner.
We can be reached at (800) 942–6281.

Bus Rental - How to Get Started
For huge groups, bus hire is the best alternative. It can be affordable, and it can cover practically any type of distance. However, if you are new to rent buses, you may be overwhelmed with what is available. The circumstance can be also worse if you are on a limited price range. You may need to receive the worse coach out there, but at the same time, you want to believe about affordability. Well, all of your problems can become resolved if you do a little bit of brainstorming before choosing a firm.  Also Read: - Party Bus Rental Orlando
First, you will have to think approximately the nature of your trip. Generally, if it requires over two hours to get to a particular area, you require a bus rental that can accommodate longer distances. The simplest ones shall lack any amenities. Use them for your shortest outings. For even more considerable travel, there are buses with restrooms and televisions. They are great for one-day jaunts. For anything longer, there is definitely the sleeper tour bus. It can be the costliest, but its bedroom region eliminates the need for a resort.
Now you want to think about who is going to drive the shuttle bus. You can save thousands of dollars on a tour bus rental if you can provide your own driver. In fact, if you have knowledge of driving buses, you could take over the wheel. If this is not a choice, discover if anyone in your group can help out. Also, if they do not have direct experience, they may know someone who knows how to drive commercial vehicles. Make sure that they have the right licensing Just, of whom you choose select.  Also Read: - Charter Bus Orlando FL
Finally, you need to consider the ambiance of a vehicle. An outing to the beach would not require the same type of bus rental as a music show. The other would need something more luxurious since the musicians would probably need to make an impression on the people. The same can be also true for corporate events. In this case, an ongoing company would want to impress the people they are working with. An elaborate vehicle could also increase spirits, as employees experience even more value. Also, personal occasions can benefit from an even more stylish bus, albeit for different reasons. An ongoing party bus could commemorate a special birthday, a prom or another momentous event. And in each case, entertainment would be the main motivation for such a vehicle. However, be aware that you spend a heavy cost when you make use of specialty vehicles. If you cannot afford it, do not be disappointed as regular buses are still very effective. They may not have all the whistles and bells, but they will perfectly get you to your destination.  Also Read: - Charter Bus Tampa

HOW A PRO-PALESTINIAN AMERICAN REPORTER CHANGED HIS VIEWS ON ISRAEL AND THE CONFLICTBYHUNTER STUART  FEBRUARY 15, 2017 12:17
A year working as a journalist in Israel and the Palestinian territories made Hunter Stuart rethink his positions on the conflict.
The author walks past Ofer Prison near Ramallah, during a Palestinian protest outside the facility in November 2015. (photo credit:COURTESY / JONATHAN BROWN)
IN THE summer of 2015, just three days after I moved to Israel for a year-and-a-half stint freelance reporting in the region, I wrote down my feelings about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A friend of mine in New York had mentioned that it would be interesting to see if living in Israel would change the way I felt. My friend probably suspected that things would look differently from the front-row seat, so to speak. Boy was he right.
Before I moved to Jerusalem, I was very pro-Palestinian. Almost everyone I knew was. I grew up Protestant in a quaint, politically correct New England town; almost everyone around me was liberal. And being liberal in America comes with a pantheon of beliefs: You support pluralism, tolerance and diversity. You support gay rights, access to abortion and gun control.
The belief that Israel is unjustly bullying the Palestinians is an inextricable part of this pantheon. Most progressives in the US view Israel as an aggressor, oppressing the poor noble Arabs who are being so brutally denied their freedom.
“I believe Israel should relinquish control of all of the Gaza Strip and most of the West Bank,” I wrote on July 11, 2015, from a park near my new apartment in Jerusalem’s Baka neighborhood. “The occupation is an act of colonialism that only creates suffering, frustration and despair for millions of Palestinians.”
Perhaps predictably, this view didn’t play well among the people I met during my first few weeks in Jerusalem, which, even by Israeli standards, is a conservative city. My wife and I had moved to the Jewish side of town, more or less by chance ‒ the first Airbnb host who accepted our request to rent a room happened to be in the Nachlaot neighborhood where even the hipsters are religious. As a result, almost everyone we interacted with was Jewish Israeli and very supportive of Israel. I didn’t announce my pro-Palestinian views to them ‒ I was too afraid. But they must have sensed my antipathy (I later learned this is a sixth sense Israelis have).
During my first few weeks in Jerusalem, I found myself constantly getting into arguments about the conflict with my roommates and in social settings. Unlike waspy New England, Israel does not afford the privilege of politely avoiding unpleasant political conversations. Outside of the Tel Aviv bubble, the conflict is omnipresent; it affects almost every aspect of life. Avoiding it simply isn’t an option.
During one such argument, one of my roommates ‒ an easygoing American-Jewish guy in his mid-30s ‒ seemed to be suggesting that all Palestinians were terrorists. I became annoyed and told him it was wrong to call all Palestinians terrorists, that only a small minority supported terrorist attacks. My roommate promptly pulled out his laptop, called up a 2013 Pew Research poll and showed me the screen. I saw that Pew’s researchers had done a survey of thousands of people across the Muslim world, asking them if they supported suicide bombings against civilians in order to “defend Islam from its enemies.” The survey found that 62 percent of Palestinians believed such terrorist acts against civilians were justified in these circumstances. And not only that, the Palestinian territories were the only place in the Muslim world where a majority of citizens supported terrorism; everywhere else it was a minority ‒ from Lebanon and Egypt to Pakistan and Malaysia.
I didn’t let my roommate win the argument early morning hours. But the statistic stuck with me.
Less than a month later, in October 2015, a wave of Palestinian terrorist attacks against Jewish-Israelis began. Nearly every day, an angry, young Muslim Palestinian was stabbing or trying to run over someone with his car. A lot of the violence was happening in Jerusalem, some of it just steps from where my wife and I had moved into an apartment of our own, and lived and worked and went grocery shopping.
At first, I’ll admit, I didn’t feel a lot of sympathy for Israelis. Actually, I felt hostility. I felt that they were the cause of the violence. I wanted to shake them and say, “Stop occupying the West Bank, stop blockading Gaza, and Palestinians will stop killing you!” It seemed so obvious to me; how could they not realize that all this violence was a natural, if unpleasant, reaction to their government’s actions?
IT WASN’T until the violence became personal that I began to see the Israeli side with greater clarity. As the “Stabbing Intifada” (as it later became known) kicked into full gear, I traveled to the impoverished East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan for a story I was writing.
As soon as I arrived, a Palestinian kid who was perhaps 13 years old pointed at me and shouted “Yehud!” which means “Jew” in Arabic. Immediately, a large group of his friends who’d been hanging out nearby were running toward me with a terrifying sparkle in their eyes. “Yehud! Yehud!” they shouted. I felt my heart start to pound. I shouted at them in Arabic “Ana mish yehud! Ana mish yehud!” (“I’m not Jewish, I’m not Jewish!”) over and over. I told them, also in Arabic, that I was an American journalist who “loved Palestine.” They calmed down after that, but the look in their eyes when they first saw me is something I’ll never forget. Later, at a house party in Amman, I met a Palestinian guy who’d grown up in Silwan. “If you were Jewish, they probably would have killed you,” he said.
I made it back from Silwan that day in one piece; others weren’t so lucky. In Jerusalem, and across Israel, the attacks against Jewish Israelis continued. My attitude began to shift, probably because the violence was, for the first time, affecting me directly.
I found myself worrying that my wife might be stabbed while she was on her way home from work. Every time my phone lit up with news of another attack, if I wasn’t in the same room with her, I immediately sent her a text to see if she was OK.
Then a friend of mine ‒ an older Jewish Israeli guy who’d hosted my wife and I for dinner at his apartment in the capital’s Talpiot neighborhood ‒ told us that his friend had been murdered by two Palestinians the month before on a city bus not far from his apartment. I knew the story well ‒ not just from the news, but because I’d interviewed the family of one of the Palestinian guys who’d carried out the attack. In the interview, his family told me how he was a promising young entrepreneur who was pushed over the edge by the daily humiliations wrought by the occupation. I ended up writing a very sympathetic story about the killer for a Jordanian news site called Al Bawaba News.
Writing about the attack with the detached analytical eye of a journalist, I was able to take the perspective that (I was fast learning) most news outlets wanted – that Israel was to blame for Palestinian violence. But when I learned that my friend’s friend was one of the victims, it changed my way of thinking. I felt horrible for having publicly glorified one of the murderers. The man who’d been murdered, Richard Lakin, was originally from New England, like me, and had taught English to Israeli and Palestinian children at a school in Jerusalem. He believed in making peace with the Palestinians and “never missed a peace rally,” according to his son.
By contrast, his killers ‒ who came from a middle-class neighborhood in East Jerusalem and were actually quite well-off relative to most Palestinians ‒ had been paid 20,000 shekels to storm the bus that morning with their cowardly guns. More than a year later, you can still see their faces plastered around East Jerusalem on posters hailing them as martyrs. (One of the attackers, Baha Aliyan, 22, was killed at the scene; the second, Bilal Ranem, 23, was captured alive.)
Being personally affected by the conflict caused me to question how forgiving I’d been of Palestinian violence previously. Liberals, human-rights groups and most of the media, though, continued to blame Israel for being attacked. Ban Ki-moon, for example, who at the time was the head of the United Nations, said in January 2016 ‒ as the streets of my neighborhood were stained with the blood of innocent Israeli civilians ‒ that it was “human nature to react to occupation.” In fact, there is no justification for killing someone, no matter what the political situation may or may not be, and Ban’s statement rankled me.
SIMILARLY, THE way that international NGOs, European leaders and others criticized Israel for its “shoot to kill” policy during this wave of terrorist attacks began to annoy me more and more.
In almost any nation, when the police confront a terrorist in the act of killing people, they shoot him dead and human-rights groups don’t make a peep. This happens in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh; it happens in Germany and England and France and Spain, and it sure as hell happens in the US (see San Bernardino and the Orlando nightclub massacre, the Boston Marathon bombings and others). Did Amnesty International condemn Barack Obama or Abdel Fattah al-Sisi or Angela Merkel or François Hollande when their police forces killed a terrorist? Nope. But they made a point of condemning Israel.
What’s more, I started to notice that the media were unusually fixated on highlighting the moral shortcomings of Israel, even as other countries acted in infinitely more abominable ways. If Israel threatened to relocate a collection of Palestinian agricultural tents, as they did in the West Bank village of Sussiya in the summer of 2015, for example, the story made international headlines for weeks. The liberal outrage was endless. Yet, when Egypt’s president used bulldozers and dynamite to demolish an entire neighborhood in the Sinai Peninsula in the name of national security, people scarcely noticed.
Where do these double standards come from?
I’ve come to believe it’s because the Israeli-Palestinian conflict appeals to the appetites of progressive people in Europe, the US and elsewhere. They see it as a white, first world people beating on a poor, third world one. It’s easier for them to become outraged watching two radically different civilizations collide than it is watching Alawite Muslims kill Sunni Muslims in Syria, for example, because to a Western observer the difference between Alawite and Sunni is too subtle to fit into a compelling narrative that can be easily summarized on Facebook.
Unfortunately for Israel, videos on social media that show US-funded Jewish soldiers shooting tear gas at rioting Arab Muslims is Hollywood-level entertainment and fits perfectly with the liberal narrative that Muslims are oppressed and Jewish Israel is a bully.
I admire the liberal desire to support the underdog. They want to be on the right side of history, and their intentions are good. The problem is that their beliefs often don’t square with reality.
In reality, things are much, much more complex than a five-minute spot on the evening news or a two paragraph-long Facebook status will ever be able to portray. As a friend told me recently, “The reason the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is so intractable is that both sides have a really, really good point.”
Unfortunately, not enough people see it that way. I recently bumped into an old friend from college who told me that a guy we’d both known when we were freshmen had been active in Palestinian protests for a time after graduating. The fact that a smart, well-educated kid from Vermont, who went to one of the best liberal arts schools in the US, traveled thousands of miles to throw bricks at Israeli soldiers is very, very telling.
THERE’S AN old saying that goes, “If you want to change someone’s mind, first make them your friend.” The friends I made in Israel forever changed my mind about the country and about the Jewish need for a homeland. But I also spent a lot of time traveling in the Palestinian territories getting to know Palestinians. I spent close to six weeks visiting Nablus and Ramallah and Hebron, and even the Gaza Strip. I met some incredible people in these places; I saw generosity and hospitality unlike anywhere else I’ve ever traveled to. I’ll be friends with some of them for the rest of my life. But almost without fail, their views of the conflict and of Israel and of Jewish people in general was extremely disappointing.
First of all, even the kindest, most educated, upper-class Palestinians reject 100 percent of Israel ‒ not just the occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank. They simply will not be content with a two-state solution ‒ what they want is to return to their ancestral homes in Ramle and Jaffa and Haifa and other places in 1948 Israel, within the Green Line. And they want the Israelis who live there now to leave. They almost never speak of coexistence; they speak of expulsion, of taking back “their” land.
To me, however morally complicated the creation of Israel may have been, however many innocent Palestinians were killed and displaced from their homes in 1948 and again in 1967, Israel is now a fact, accepted by almost every government in the world (including many in the Middle East). But the ongoing desire of Palestinians to wipe Israel off the map is unproductive and backward- looking and the West must be very careful not to encourage it.
The other thing is that a large percentage of Palestinians, even among the educated upper class, believe that most Islamic terrorism is actually engineered by Western governments to make Muslims look bad. I know this sounds absurd. It’s a conspiracy theory that’s comical until you hear it repeated again and again as I did. I can hardly count how many Palestinians told me the stabbing attacks in Israel in 2015 and 2016 were fake or that the CIA had created ISIS.
For example, after the November 2015 ISIS shootings in Paris that killed 150 people, a colleague of mine ‒ an educated 27-year-old Lebanese-Palestinian journalist ‒ casually remarked that those massacres were “probably” perpetrated by the Mossad. Though she was a journalist like me and ought to have been committed to searching out the truth no matter how unpleasant, this woman was unwilling to admit that Muslims would commit such a horrific attack, and all too willing ‒ in defiance of all the facts ‒ to blame it on Israeli spies.
USUALLY WHEN I travel, I try to listen to people without imposing my own opinion. To me that’s what traveling is all about ‒ keeping your mouth shut and learning other perspectives. But after 3-4 weeks of traveling in Palestine, I grew tired of these conspiracy theories.
“Arabs need to take responsibility for certain things,” I finally shouted at a friend I’d made in Nablus the third or fourth time he tried to deflect blame from Muslims for Islamic terrorism. “Not everything is America’s fault.” My friend seemed surprised by my vehemence and let the subject drop ‒ obviously I’d reached my saturation point with this nonsense.
I know a lot of Jewish-Israelis who are willing to share the land with Muslim Palestinians, but for some reason finding a Palestinian who feels the same way was near impossible. Countless Palestinians told me they didn’t have a problem with Jewish people, only with Zionists. They seemed to forget that Jews have been living in Israel for thousands of years, along with Muslims, Christians, Druse, atheists, agnostics and others, more often than not, in harmony. Instead, the vast majority believe that Jews only arrived in Israel in the 20th century and, therefore, don’t belong here.
Of course, I don’t blame Palestinians for wanting autonomy or for wanting to return to their ancestral homes. It’s a completely natural desire; I know I would feel the same way if something similar happened to my own family. But as long as Western powers and NGOs and progressive people in the US and Europe fail to condemn Palestinian attacks against Israel, the deeper the conflict will grow and the more blood will be shed on both sides.
I’m back in the US now, living on the north side of Chicago in a liberal enclave where most people ‒ including Jews ‒ tend to support the Palestinians’ bid for statehood, which is gaining steam every year in international forums such as the UN.
Personally, I’m no longer convinced it’s such a good idea. If the Palestinians are given their own state in the West Bank, who’s to say they wouldn’t elect Hamas, an Islamist group committed to Israel’s destruction? That’s exactly what happened in Gaza in democratic elections in 2006. Fortunately, Gaza is somewhat isolated, and its geographic isolation ‒ plus the Israeli and Egyptian-imposed blockade ‒ limit the damage the group can do. But having them in control of the West Bank and half of Jerusalem is something Israel obviously doesn’t want. It would be suicide. And no country can be expected to consent to its own destruction.
So, now, I don’t know what to think. I’m squarely in the center of one of the most polarized issues in the world. I guess, at least, I can say that, no matter how socially unacceptable it was, I was willing to change my mind.
If only more people would do the same.

Last-Minute Disney World Trip Planning
Tumblr media
When heading to Walt Disney World, many of us start planning trips months in advance. In fact, we suggest starting at least 7 months out.  There are numerous reasons for that and we cover them all in our other guides. Generally speaking though, the average Walt Disney World visitor will spend about 5 months planning their visit.  Speaking from experience, some people will also spend more than a year dreaming and planning. Occasionally though, that last-minute opportunity arises.  So how can you approach that? There just isn’t time to optimizing every portion of the trip.  Can you still go and have a wonderful time? Absolutely. In fact one of my absolute favorite visits was a spur of the moment, we’re stuck in Orlando anyway, let’s get park hopper passes for tomorrow and go crazy visit.  I don’t think there could have been any less planning!   In some ways, that was actually incredibly freeing.  Take what some may consider a negative - no opportunity to plan every moment getting all of your ADRs and FP+ reservations - and enjoy the lack of planning.  Although my day wound up rushed because we did some running it was also exhilarating that we didn’t really have a plan beyond what we were doing. For a last-minute trip like we’re discussing you need to have a mindset of ‘good enough.’  Things are not going to be ‘perfect’ and that’s ok. A ‘bad’ day at Disney is better than a ‘good’ day at work, right?  Of course, I’m fortunate enough that Disney is my work =) Although I just said that we’re going to have minimal planning and it will be freeing… there are still some essentials that you need to consider and address.  So without further ado, I present our Last Minute WDW Guide.
What Are Your Disney Trip Expectations?
Before we go any further, what do you want from this trip?  I’m not one to believe in a “size fits all” solution. There are countless ways you could enjoy a short notice trip to Walt Disney World.  I truly believe that most people’s frustrations with vacations, wherever they may be, are that they don’t always align expectations with the reality of the situation.  You’re just not going to experience the same things with a last-minute trip that you would when given more time to plan.   Do you have a list of ‘must-do’ items? Can you check them before you make any reservations? This may also be just the nudge you need to try something different.  If you’re anything like myself and my family we get caught in a bit of a routine sometimes. There is so much to offer that a little focus on not doing the same old can be really exhilarating.
Disney Travel Airfare
Tumblr media
For my family and me, airfare is the first hurdle.  If we’re looking at a last-minute trip it’s also likely to be a quick one.  Both of these factors make finding “cheap” airfare more difficult. Understanding that everyone’s threshold is different I’m not going to get into judgments on what makes a good value. Airfare is constantly changing based on the market. Yes, most of the time seats jump in price the closer you get to a departure day.  However, since a seat on a flight is a perishable commodity, sometimes last-minute airfare will be cheaper than airfare booked months in advance. This is not normally the case. Airlines have made it a science, their business even, to anticipate demand and price fares accordingly. We suggest using Google Flights to search for your flights.  You can set several parameters to watch and receive automated alerts.  The site tracks nearly all airlines; Southwest is a notable exclusion. Don’t forget to check not only Orlando International (MCO) but Orlando Sanford International (SFB) and possibly even Tampa International (TPA) or St. Pete-Clearwater International (PIE).  Those last two start getting pretty far away, and most savings will likely be offset by the time and need for a car. They are at least additional options to consider.
Disney Resorts
Tumblr media
To me, this is less of a concern but still important.  Although you may not always spend much time there, your room is typically central to your visit. Unless you live local or really will only be there for a day this can make a difference.  For a short trip, this can be a big influence if you’re taking advantage of a last-minute deal. What good is cheap airfare if you have no place to stay?   If we’re doing a last-minute trip, room rate and airfare are the determining factors.  If neither is a deal or just simply not available then it isn’t going to work. Really though, Disney has so many rooms that they’re rarely all filled.  Especially if you’re looking for something short-notice, we can find you a room.   Of course, if you’re squeezing this in amongst some business, or other travel, those items may not matter as much.
Disney Ground Transportation
Tumblr media
If you’re going to be renting a car, it never hurts to look for some last-minute deals.  Take a look at the rental company’s site and the ever-popular Priceline.  Don’t forget to look at Sam’s Club or Costco too, they sometimes offer deals.  We use Amex for most business things, they also will occasionally have offers that we can take advantage of. If you’re going to use Disney’s Magical Express for an on-site stay, don’t worry about the luggage tags. If you call Disney’s Magical Express directly at 866-599-0951, you may ask them to be sent to you immediately. They can usually accommodate with at least a week’s notice.  Your other option is to simply go to the luggage carousel and collect your bags before going to the bus too. Of course, we can’t dismiss all of the ride-hailing options either.
Disney Dining
Tumblr media
Dining may be the biggest adjustment for a last-minute trip as opposed to one with extended time to plan.  If this isn’t your first time or you’ve read our other guides you likely know to start making your Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs) at the opening of the 6-month window.  While there may be limited availability only a week or two out, there will be some.  Fortunately, the days of all restaurants being filled months in advance are in the past.  You’ll still have options like Be Our Guest Restaurant that will have limited or no availability.  Most of the time though, you can find some options that will satisfy. An exception of note though is during the ‘Free Dining” periods.  If ADRs are important to your trip it is worthwhile checking them before making commitments, you can’t get out of. If you leave yourself open, you just might be surprised by what you find available.  It is not uncommon for people’s plans to change at the 48-24 hour window. Sometimes people book an ADR just for an ‘in-case’ and that’s when you’ll find them pop open.  Again, may not be your first choice but it might be something new and interesting to experience.   Another point to remember, ADRs are not required.  You may try calling the restaurant directly or just walk up to the podium.  There may be an opportunity to work you in. Just remember the larger your party the more difficult that becomes.  The worst that happens is they say ‘no’ and you proceed on to another restaurant.
Tumblr media
Our other suggestion is to focus on counter service restaurants.  There are some great options there too. You also have some great options around the World Showcase kiosks, whether there is a festival or not.  There is never a shortage of food options anywhere throughout Disney World. This is all without even considering the extended options at all of the resorts and Disney Springs. Basically, doing a last-minute trip from the perspective of dining just requires altering your expectations. There’s a good chance you won’t get into all of your favorite options, but there will likely be great alternatives. Give those a try instead!
Disney Tickets
Tumblr media
Walt Disney World has a ton of ticket options, some that will be better suited to your plans than others.  The right option will again depend on what you want to do. Looking to park hop your days away or just looking to lounge by the pool and check out nightlife?
Disney Travel Itinerary
Some people chart out their entire Walt Disney World trips, spending months preparing the perfect itinerary to maximize their fun. Some people enjoy that (we’re some people), and there’s nothing wrong with having fun planning.  However, most last-minute trips don’t allow this level of granular planning. You can still have a strong 1-day plan, it just won’t be far in advance and it may not be all of your top choices. A last-minute trip is not the time to worry about a perfect trip.  Which, by the way, there's no such thing. This will be easier said than done, but our recommendation for a last-minute trip is to ‘wing it’ as much as you can.  We’ve always been planners but with a few last-minute wing-it trips under our belts now we’ve found they can be just as much fun.  Often times fun in ways that we hadn’t even anticipated. Make the ADRs you find, if you want, perhaps even look for a FastPass+ or two, but I wouldn’t stress beyond that.  Go with the flow and trust that Fairy Godmother will take care of you where she can.
Tumblr media
Obviously, this isn’t for everyone, and some people are cringing at just the idea of it.  If you’re one of those people, you might want to seriously reconsider if a last-minute trip is even worth it to you. Last-minute traveling isn’t for everyone, and there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s not really much you need to know when planning a last-minute trip other than flexibility will be key. Last-minute trips can be a lot of fun, even if you typically start planning trips 18 months in advance.  It’s all about your expectations and your willingness to go with the flow. Disney trips don’t require months of advance planning, and most last-minute planning is actually pretty similar to early planning!
