Had a cheeky evening viewing at the Borghese Gallery and Museum. The artwork was incredible, the statues the paintings and let's not get me started on the CEILING ART. Two pieces really stood out to me and those were: 1. The ceiling art in the entrance room 2. The oil painting showing all the emotions that occurred when Jesus was taken down from the cross. The artist captured so many facial expressions I felt like I was there. Beautiful piece and it was huuuuge I don't know where they do these custom frames but i want one. The image here is called The Rape of Proserpina. It is a large Baroque marblesculptural group by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Bernini was only twenty-three years old at its completion. It depicts the Abduction of Proserpina, where Proserpina is seized and taken to the underworld by the god Pluto. As a woman, this was not my cup of tea. But Bernini tells the viewer to absorb the scene from one single viewpoint. While other views provide further details, a spectator can see the desperation of Persephone and the lumbering attempts of Pluto to grab her Still don't know how I feel about this art.
