Desert Mer AU: I was just thinking about how 'fitting' it is that it is the Vosnians catching Mer. Because using a plane to detect fish swarms from air is exactly how Tunas are currently fished, to the degree that they are near extinction. Second thing I was wondering whether the Mer have T-Cogs to turn into a mech-mode but it gets removeded when they are captured/born in captivity to make it even harder for them to escape.
The wild ones can definitely transform. So either the transformation is triggered by a particular food or captive mers have theirs removed or bred out.
Cam definitely has one, at least now. So that is a repair that can be made.

I don’t understand why so many people are saying that Matty dating Taylor is going to be the end of the band. They’ve survived worse, right? I mean they made it through Mattys addiction and then the Pandemic and all of that stuff. They make a point in every interview to say that they are each others first priority, and no girl has ever gotten in the way of that friendship.
Do we actually have to be worried about the band ending? I mean yeah… dating Taylor swift can change your reputation forever, but I feel like people are being dramatic. John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles are all still MASSIVELY successful people with careers. Dating Taylor Swift does not instantly doom you.
Is this a real concern or are people just dramatic and reacting because of the change?
- 🔆
I think it's a bit of both? like it's a concern, but not in the way that people are saying. Y'all feel free to chime in, if you feel differently. I don't think this is the end of the band or anything. Like, those boys are at their peak AND they love what they do (and each other) so much that it wouldn't just end like this.
That said, I do think that things are gonna be different. They haven't survived worse because....well, there has never been worse, lmao. I can't even compare it to other things that might have happened and stuff. I think Matty said the only thing that EVER came close to threatening their work together was his addiction, but even that...they handled it SO SO WELL bless George, Ross and Adam for what they've done to help Matty. and that was so internal and discrete. it never involved fuckin CNN headlines, and being with more celebs in a week than his entire fuckin life. not sure that he'd interact with this many A-listers at the Brits lmao.
I just think there's never been THIS much undesired attention especially the kind that is not about the music at all. Matty's not the celebrity that gets papped ( none of them are) or written about in this way or whatever. Plus, just the kinds of seclusion and removedness that come with the territory of being Taylor's partner (security, private iets, members only club, going off instagram, etc.) I mean, Matty makes fun of people who go to Soho House lmaooo. So, there just has never been a part of the band's history where something like this has happened, and not having Matty be as accessible and as open and honest or whatever....that's a massive shift in the dynamic of the band and their relationship to us fans. So, I think people are just confused by it and are freaking out. It'll all calm down. They're back on the road soon. we just gotta hang in there until then lol.

I'm wondering how much of this is a classic internet phenomenon, insofar as that I think it possible that there is still a silent majority of people that honestly and deeply engage with art, agreeing with the sentiment of this post, but that the internet culture of removedness and irony are just more visibly performed in public "places"
Let's Talk About Un-ironicizing Art!
In light of a lot of the conversations i've seen surrounding Death Grips and recent events concerning them, I want to take the time to point out that this is a good time to start thinking about how we engage with art on the whole!
For a long time, the irony poisoned method of consumption went unchecked in all facets of internet culture. As an internet musician in current day, I have noticed a sharp disconnect between artists and enthusiasts/casual listeners when it comes to attitudes surrounding music specifically, though I've witnessed it permeate all forms of art in some way.
I see people who have grown scared to engage on deeper levels, intentionally severing any resonant connections or knowledge learned from a piece of media before it has the chance to take root. In short, dare to be vulnerable! Dare to enjoy something on the basis that you yourself resonate with it, and not for any other nebulous reasoning. When masses of people relegate art to a spectacle, not only do artists become more likely to be disenchanted with the passions that fuel their work, but the consumer base ultimately suffers as well. All art at that point becomes less an extension of ourselves, less a vehicle to explore our identities, and is rendered a meaningless hulking sludge, or worse, the opponent to an already shrinking and narrow worldview.
Be not afraid to be unabashedly in love with the work that inspires you. Be not afraid to have the things you love misunderstood by by some. When you engage with work new and old, make sure to do it for yourself. Making and consuming art is inherently selfish, but being selfish is not inherently misguided. Allow yourself to learn, grow, discover, and repeat that cycle until the day you die.
To speak more candidly about my own experience, throughout the course of my life, there has been art that I've held near and dear to my identity, and own journey of self discovery that I seldom find others who hold the same sentiments to. I've always found this exciting. Exciting to hold something close to my chest as something so personal, and even more exciting when I can ease up on that grip when I find someone who I can share that with. However, I've also been through the throws of how the internet tends to chew up and spit out art that generally isn't understood by the many. I've fallen victim myself to the hive mind mentality that circles some artists and the cult of non-identity around them. This off-color ouroboros of knowing all about an artist's work and simultaneously upholding this facade of vapid complacency. I've come to the conclusion that if being openly supportive and connected to an artist's work or a particular piece of work automatically renders a person uninteresting and unambiguous at the very least, then I will live happily as an uninteresting open book. At the worst times, we see this line of thinking contribute to Death Grips being mocked and belittled en masse by people who are unwilling to engage with their art before they even get that far. It's heartbreaking, to me at least to see people put so much effort, emotion, and passion into transforming culture for the better to be rewarded with a crowd that's plugging their ears.
I realize I run the risk of sounding pretentious, self indulgent, or even patronizing to an extent; I apologize because that isn't my intention, I'm hoping to see gears shift at least on a micro level surrounding attitudes towards art appreciation. Remember to dare to be in love holistically with the art you engage with! Speak of the things you love in a way that makes that clear to others, and consider your peers to do the same! You and the people around you can only be better off for it.

we all know that guillermo is basically a serial killer who has been knowingly luring people to their deaths for well over a decade but that was done with a mindset of "oh I'm not killing them myself and I'm just serving my masters and it's for the greater good because i'm trying to become a vampire" so there is a kind of compartmentalization and removedness to the acts of killing innocent humans but what will happen when brand new baby vampire memo has to actually start killing people himself? what will that do to his psyche when he no longer has his masters to hide behind as an excuse for his misdeeds?

Hi mods! I have an inhuman character that tries to disguise herself as a human, but still has some inhuman features that stand out. I tried to focus mainly on her cheekbones and eyes, since I wanted her to look sharp and predatory while still humanlike, but I dont think it registers as such. How can I make her look less human and more animallike without going too far?
This is a really cool design!  I’m going to try to stay inside the boundaries of it the best i can. Making characters look animalistic without going full furry/anthro is a bit of a balance-walk. And as you may already know, it takes a bit of going back and forth between design-choices to find out exactly what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes, it’s the most subtle, unexpected things that makes the difference. I’ll give it my shot at a more animalistic look, but to which extent it reads as animalistic to other people all depends on their own point of reference for the “inhuman”.
Tumblr media
I have based the changes on some rather “classic” traits that i’ve seen and used myself in character design when it comes to giving people more animalistic features. First and foremost, i’ve lifted the iris + pupil up higher (or lowered the upper eyelid depending on how you want to call it ). Which obscures a whole lot of the iris to a point where really getting a read of what the character is thinking can be difficult. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and by obscuring them - or otherwise making them feel like they’re not wholly present, you can make your characters appear like they are more threatening ( as this look of “disinterest” or “removedness” compromises our ability to read their emotions quickly ).
I’ve also gone for a more rounded look for the eyelids, taking some inspiration from the look of a tiger’s (or i guess more commonly a cat’s ) eye.
I’ve gone ahead and broadened the character’s mouth as well. One easy trick to getting your character to look threatening, is by giving them a mouth that looks like it could swallow you whole, or at least take a sizeable bite out of you.

This, allegedly, has roots in our primal survival instinct, from way back when predators were a prominent part our collective cultural fear. Plus, with a bit of added teeth, you can prompt your audience to imagine just how a big, toothy grin would look on your character.
Tumblr media
I already really like what you did with the hair so i’m basically just doing it again, though with a little more of a simple overall shape to it. The top basically looks like a mane of hair, while the lower portion of hair almost appears like a layer of fur craddling around the shoulders. If you want - i’d recommend you play around more with how the character’s long hair can be used to imitate predators, in order to invoke a sense of familiar danger in your audience.

Especially because of the violence, bitterness, and removedness of others - am i affirmed in my feeling that love is the answer. It isn’t a frivolous experience saturated in sweet nothings; it’s not a painful cycle that never ends. It is the easiest, most intuitive experience and action.
It is relinquishing unnecessary responsibility and owning the areas of accountability. It is letting yourself feel safe enough to not hold back your most authentic expression. And showing how much you selflessly care for those around you. Love is the answer to my own feeling stuck and heavy. It is my daily reminder and life intention. I am at ease when in love and being in love is very easy to do.

Some thoughts about different mbti and enneagram combinations.
Probably the most efficient combos are the ones that ‘balance each other’.
For example, ESTJ 3s. You see those all over the places working their dream jobs having their dream houses. Both types synergize pretty well as far as the orientation towards practical goals goes, but 3 is a heart/emotional type & tends to look closely at how other ppl react, so they don’t have that bluntness or bossiness that appears in the 6, 8 or 1 specimens, but the sort of humble, down to earth responsible quality of high Si puts a damper on overly flashy behavior. So these ppl often manage to have vibrant social lives & professional sucess. Maybe being an id type helps to tap into that shadow Se.
Or, I know an ISFP who is a 6, & will have more access to conceptual thinking than a SF who isn’t a head type, & the caution of the 6 has kept her from the impulsive behavior many other SPs do.  I know one who’s compiled/ memorized every single fact related to childrearing that I’ve ever quoted in her general direction, so she has A Plan for eventual future babies, but she also has the patience & receptiveness & good listening skill to actually do those things without losing her temper. I guess there was also a negative interaction also in that she used to be very shy as a child, with sensitivity of Fi + the 6 tendency to worry. But you also see, like, rappers or punk rockers who are ISFP 6s & maybe more keyed into that assertive side of Se but also have these rapid-fire political head center type lyrics backed by the strong ethical focus of of Fi.
For intuitives, some of the most efficient specimens are probably those lucky enough to be body/gut/action types to balance out the removedness of N types & get some action orientation in there. If we look for example at INTJs you see the 1s and 8s having some big mission to effect change while all the 6s and 5s just living a quiet reflective life somewhere which they’ve planned out completely to avoid unpleasant surprises.
(INTJ 6: “I would like to invest money & make sure to have secure retirement funds.”  Financial consultant: * double take * “Wait ma’am, is this your first salary?” INTJ 6: * is an adorable 20 year old girl * Yes. )
by contrast, I’m an INTP 5. INTPs aren’t super good at socializing, oblivious to their surroundings & not very action oriented. Type 5s are also on average, not super good at socializing, oblivious to their surroundings and not very action oriented. So the weaknesses probably reinforce each other alot rather than balance each other out. You might argue that increased specialization can also have its benefits of course. If I ever get my shit together, I shall report back about that.

Wind, Sand and Stars
One expects certain things of a book named Wind, Sand and Stars. Le Petit Prince remains one of my most beloved stories and so I put off reading this memoir for fear I would be disappointed. Wind, Sand and Stars captures more of la grande personne of The Little Prince. It's a memoir about aviation, primarily, which I had thought would bore me. Some parts do read like a typical memoir. And so I sometimes found myself blinking in mild annoyance at having to pay attention to the details of bibliographical events, some of which felt dry. Perhaps this was hard also because that old world of de Saint-Exupery's seems so different from the reality I inhabit today. What I loved though, and what kept me reading, was de Saint-Exupery's approach to life. Who he was, it seems, is so blatantly woven through pages of this book. An aviator is perhaps the best word to describe him. He did carry mails through wind, sand and stars, gazing at civilization from a couple thousand feet up. Similarly, metaphorically, he looked at himself and at his world in the same way. I read Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil at the same time as this memoir and what struck me in their similarity was the eagle's perspective that both seem to share. As in, there is a a certain degree of distance, of removedness, that is required for spiritual and philosophical insight. Anyway, ever an observer and wanderer and a lover, de Saint-Exupery tells of his aviation adventures and the little insights that strike him along the way. Of course, as in The Little Prince, the word "little" conceals a profound nature. So, if you pay attention, you can hear Le Petit Prince whispering to you from these pages: "What could they know of those stars that one by one were going out? I alone was in the confidence of the stars." "And that heart which was a wild garden was given to him who loved only trim lawns." "Whether we dub it sacrifice, or poetry, or adventure, it is always the same voice that calls. But domestic security has succeeded in crushing out that part in us that is capable of heeding the call. We scarcely quiver; we beat our wings once or twice and fall back into our barnyard." "What we feel when we are hungry...is that the birth of man is not yet accomplished, that we must take stock of ourselves and our universe. We must send forth pontoons into the night."

So that anon was right your peddle replacement theory. I mean the sole focus on TW makes it a smaller number, a public easy accessed number.
Anti-trans women in sports is a hate scam as men removede women from their sport in reality, in factual reality.
Cass rep is internationally see as bullshit.
And you can get hits on those two words by googling it.
Transgender ideology that has never been mentioned or defined by other than transphobes. You guys called it something else when the homosexuals came round n out.
Huge rise? No you're going to lie about a half demographic reaching parity.
So so far you've fired off two white power beloved types of bullshit and quoted hate sites, and an internationally debunked report. And anti-trans sports a hated scam, and anti-trans dating another terf invented hated scam with a known past.
You know it made international news right. The Cass thing, you need a John Oliver link on trans stuff, pretty sure he covered it?
Hey weren't there real world legal rights you lost to trans people?
Do you want the survey with L&G growth exceeding the T that exists the UK gov published it it'd be an easy google?
But I think were done as you just admitted to being a liar and very, very willing to peddle replacement theory. Your whole reblog was this in the blast post.
You don't care about the trans numbers because they show you lie.
Trans ideology doesn't exist outside the transphobes that invented it. But look at you re-using the "gay agenda."
If trans ideology doesn’t exist, then why is it writing over the rights for women and girls to have their own spaces? If it doesn’t exist why is it erasing gay and lesbian spaces?
I’d urge you to delve deeper. Look at the history. Look at the current situation. Look at the long term effects. Look at what is happening in single-sex spaces. Look at the science.

I actually really like how Gallifrey and the Time Lords (here also a standin for Doctor Who lore) are talked about on the TARDIS wiki. It places contrasting and outright mutually exclusive information right next to each other, painting a colourful, overlapping, multi-dimensional patchwork. 'By some accounts'. This actually is, I think, the best and perhaps only approach to an universe in which time-travelling is 'relatively' common (and in which canon is very long, variably 'canon', and plays fast and loose with it all). Gallifrey becomes a looped, paradoxed and ruled up eldritch monster that lumbers through time-space trying to sew its flesh back on as it sloughs off continuously. Memories of the people who were 'there' are just as questionable as of people who had nothing to do with it. Not only that, but history is revealed as the corrigible and manipulable records that are societies' educational programs, databases and tribal stories, people's heads full of things that might have happened, never happened, happened in 29 different ways. The Time Lords become myths even to themselves despite having a sense for it and of course, a touch for it. It's a function not just of their near-immortality but also of them being time travellers. It makes Time Lords strangers to themselves, only reinforced by the process of regeneration. The more you run rings around timelines, the more tangled by them you become and the more parts of you become weighted, shadowed and uncertain. The only reason that Gallifrey hasn't yet swallowed itself right up might indeed be due to Rassilon's 'observe don't meddle'/neutrality Laws or perhaps rather because the Gallifreyans are so extremely naturally gifted at feeling it out (and indeed the Time War came close to catastrophically shatter-excising their existence from reality). Is that natural gift something Rassilon engineered or was it an evolutionary coincidence, was it a cultural coincidence, was it the Academy, was it a paradox? Who knows. The idea that an ancient and powerful species that can literally go back in time to check their own history would be wrapped in ambiguity is great and just fits. Even better is this being in contrast with (in reference to this post) Gallifrey being absolutely obsessed with their own Great Mythical and Legendary status - attempting singularity in history in response to this very phenomenon (the reason why they call themselves 'Time Lords') - being allegedly the creators of it and trying to control it as to not be subject to it in detrimental ways. The Doctor has been many people from the start of History - and they can't remember it all - often times literally, but they do keep trying to run from the whole mess (which so awfully attempts and pretends to be a streamlined Imperial paradise of Power, Order and Removedness) - and just can't manage it.

Religion(s)
I’ve been debating with myself on whether or not to post this one, seeing as how I myself struggle with my own faith, and I know some people get turned off of something when they see religion brought up. But I think that this world I’ve made builds off of religions, just like a lot of our own history has been (and is being) shaped by religions. I don’t claim to know if anything is true or not, I’m just trying to post thoughts concerning this very delicate subject where this fictional world is concerned.
I don’t even know if anyone will see this lol. So, here goes.
It was a big thing for the recovering world, for people to have something else to believe in. It’s kind of not important for survival, but it is important for the survival of human spirit (in a way). Humans are the only animals that have religion, that ponder constantly where we come from, who we are, where we are going, why we’re here at all. It’s a staple of human nature, and has a hand in partly shaping the world.
Different countries have different religions. There’s no one big powerhouse of belief, not really. The old world, and the “old religions” have ceased to be. New, but familiar, belief systems have taken their place.
Humans of Caledonia, Cambria, Anglia, and Hispania mainly hold belief in The Centurion and accompanying armies. Religious texts mention soldiers made of metal and stone that will march the remnants of humanity into battle with creatures of flesh. With victory will come a new age, one of rebuilding, prosperity, etc. This partly helps to explain these countries possessing a more “human-first/human-centric” mindset.
Armorica and Suecia are two countries that, despite their relative removedness from one another, have similar belief systems. Theirs is a pantheon of gods and goddesses. Every god and goddess is seen as an aspect of a personality on the whole (i.e. intellect, rage, passion). Celestial bodies are the eyes of the spirits, allowing higher beings to look down on and judge their subjects daily.
The vast majority of the Agrogian Empire believe in One, a religion similar to the real-world’s Christianity. One is a mysterious, somewhat Lovecraftian (AKA godly) being that created everything as something of an experiment. A second death of the world is what every believer of this religion fears and expects. This era is a second trial of sorts, something of a leftover, and the world will end again - this time for good. Only by proving oneself in the time between the first end and the second can a believer hope to be spared death.
Note: there are smaller sects among the Agrogian alliance which have different tenets.
Scythia of the Arenan Regions lack any main religion, instead falling into several different sects which center around tribalism. Tribes will commonly have their own folktales and mythology (religion) they adhere to.
Parthia and Ariana have another pantheon, with their gods and goddesses leading their way into an everlasting peace. They will be reborn, and, depending on their deeds here, blessed in the next life to come.
Arabia and Numidia share similar beliefs as well, falling more into tribalism, while maintaining general core stories. Their pantheon centers around three beings, each representing a part of the human life, and each being worshiped accordingly. Those with young children will offer worship to Ovos. Termes is the second and represents adult life. Antes is the third, guiding the older generation. Other important beings include Muscas (death goddess), Papilio (life god), and Rubra (luck/fortune - indeterminate gender).
